Grace, Grace, Grace…

Some stories simply cannot be devoured in one sitting. And not just because of their length. Sometimes, there’s just too much emotion, too many questions, and way too much to process. Grace is definitely one of those stories.

❗️18+❗️

This is what I would call a truly dark (!) romance.

I’ve always believed that dark romance isn’t made dark simply by steamy scenes or violence. What makes it dark, at least for me, is the morally questionable relationships, the blurred lines, and the uncomfortable questions it leaves you wrestling with long after you’ve put the book down.

And this story gives you plenty of those.

Grace is only fifteen when Chase Baker kidnaps her, and for the next four years, she remains his captive. To Chase, she becomes his butterfly — something pure and beautiful in the middle of his otherwise dark world.

But then comes the question I kept asking myself throughout the entire story:

Does Grace really have Stockholm syndrome?

Or did the attraction she already felt for Chase before her abduction grow into something real? Something she genuinely sees as love? Is it love, trauma… or some impossible combination of all?

And that’s just one of the many questions this story made me ask myself.

What about forgiveness?

Can something like this ever truly be forgiven?

Grace goes through so much. And somehow, despite everything, she finds happiness, purpose, and a sense of belonging beside Chase.

Her former captor.

And I’ll be honest: I didn’t agree with every decision Grace made. I didn’t understand or approve of every choice she took. But I understood her feelings for Chase.

It’s her heart. Her life. Her choice.

And as twisted as those choices may be, I respected them because they were hers.

Grace completely dominated this story for me, which also left me wishing I could have seen more of the other characters — especially Chase. I desperately wanted to get inside his head, to understand him on a deeper level and see more of what was going on beneath the surface.

But then again… maybe that’s the whole point.

Because the story isn’t called Chase.

It’s called Grace.

She is the butterfly.

Not Chase.

Not Cyrus — although he absolutely became one of my favourite side characters.

Grace.

The story is much more emotion-driven than plot-driven, but that didn’t make it any less intense. I still found myself staring at the pages more than once, completely caught off guard when certain truths finally came to light.

And oh, did they.

More than once. 👀

Thank you so much, Lexie King, for trusting me with your story and for giving me the opportunity to step into this world. 🦋❤️‍🔥

No matter what at the end of the day Chase was a rapist and abusive piece of shit. Frankly if the fmc couldn't heal herself in a proper healthy way, if even after acknowledging that loving your rapist is Stockholm syndrome and all, she should have being better at killing herself, would have made a better ending.
This book disgusted. I kept waiting for the reasons on why Chase did what he did, that maybe he had a twin who did it, but the reasons were weak and frankly felt like a cope out because he still was in contact with the person who supposedly forced him to beat and rape a 15 year old for 5 years. A dark romance villain or hero doesn't do shit like, he takes vengeance on her behalf, he grovels, he suffers but this was sheer disgusting filth.
