Training to be a superhero is so dangerous that I'm more likely to graduate to a coffin than a cape! But I don't care, because being a superhero is all I've wanted since the day the day alien saucers came out of space and started attacking the Earth. They tore up mountains and cities with ease, killing millions of innocent people. The only thing that stood between Earth and Armageddon was small teams of superheroes who rose up to save the day. But we are losing the war for Earth, and even the superheroes are dying in their dozens. And I might be next.
C. H. Aalberry lives by the ocean and spends his life in a state of creative misadventure.Even his imaginary dog thinks he's pretty weird. Send him and email and he will send you a free book.
The basic premise is simple. The Earth is under attack by alien flying saucers, and Earth's only hope is a rag-tag assortment of "superheroes" in suits made from reverse engineered alien technology which only works on an intuitive basis. Our main character wants to become a Superhero, but manages to instead get shanghaied onto a convict suicide squad. He's not the most talented. He's not the strongest. He's not even all that great with the alien technology, but he's living the dream.
Well, other than the brutal beatings, the shock collar, and his fellow superheroes trying to kill him, all because he saved the wrong girl...
Interesting ideas; not so great execution. The writing felt spoonfed and the plot did not flow well. I'm kind of still confused as to what was going on. The world-building could have been its saving grace but was only hinted at in passing and nothing was explained well. Because of the rushed feel and stilted prose, I was unable to make an emotional attachment to the main character so I really have no reason to continue this series.
Cant figure the folks who gave this book five stars, the book is far too short to build up interest, it is far too confusing and everything happens with no reason or explanation and to cap everything the book reads like it is written by 13 year old, Not recommended and will not continue with the series.
Imagine a world where people live in fear and are destroyed on a daily basis by aliens attacking in their flying saucers!
The 1st generation of Superhero rose to the task of defending earth's people against the alien attacks. But, it's not so easy to be a Superhero! It requires a great deal of intense training and you'll either wear a Super Hero cape or have eternal rest in a coffin.
Trainee Superhero follows a young trainee fresh out of high school as he tries to become a Superhero.
I loved "Past Prime" the old guy in charge of the training and his assistant "Never Lies".
The characters were so alive they jumped off the page and the humor will have you laughing in the mist of the darkest alien assault.
An incredibly smooth read, a fun topic, but the writing isn't juvenile and the book is professionally written and edited.
I'm looking forward to Book 2. I've really enjoyed my little reality escape in this good read.
I've been really enjoying science fiction books lately and this fits the bill. I really liked how the author took the aliens and superheroes archetype and really made it something his own. The writing is flows quite well, and the plot is easy to get into and get through. Overall, a fun and original read that will satisfy anyone who enjoys science fiction. I wouldn't really classify this as a "beach read," per se, but it was smooth, well-paced, and entertaining.
This is a good book. It is awful short though. The only reason I gave it five stars was because it was free. Another reason is that it makes me want to go read the second one.
A different take on supers and growing up. The main character is pretty simple too. He just wants to help save the world. Things start out rough for him but he takes it in stride!!!
