The Queen is Missing

Rate this book
On the night of April 18, 1873, the Mississippi Queen- finest riverboat of the time- sailed from Memphis for New Orleans.

Steam horns demanded a clear path for the luxury ship. The excited crowd on board cheered and waved to their friends staying behind.

She was last seen just after midnight, steaming majestically toward her destination- then she disappeared

No trace of boat, passengers or freight was ever found, though the river was thoroughly dragged. The fate of the Mississippi Queen remains today one of America's greatest maritime mysteries.

Had Steve Collins discovered what really happened? Many southerners did go to Brazil after the Civil War. And even today you may talk to people whose features are a mixture of Brazilian and American in the Amazon city of Santarem. They have names like Smith and Jones and can tell you about their grandparents or great-grandparents who came there years ago.

It is said that a Mississippi river boat actually made the trip to the Amazon. In this day when rowboats are crossing the Atlantic, such a voyage for a well-prepared boat does not seem in any way impossible.

I wasn't sure what to make of this book.It was interesting but a brief search online couldn't tell me if it was historically accurate or not. If it wasn't than the author spun a fine yarn. If it is true than it's theory that is both fascinating and intriguing. Woven throughout the story is Christian principles and how the missionaries try to convert the people to their beliefs. That is fine but generally I felt that this book lacked substance.
