Capturing the captain captured my heart !From the first moment you meet Josh he is such a green flag hero. There’s no “ he’s gonna be like a really bad guy, but she’s gonna fall from him anyway “moments . You can tell from the beginning that he’s just a genuinely great guy which is a breath of fresh air and then you meet Olivia who’s just the sweetest thing and you can tell that they really like each other, but he is the captain of the hockey team that she just got the job as the photographer for his team and they believe that if they pursue a relationship in the open then she’ll lose her job so they try to stay away from each other but it’s impossible so they sneak around and it’s hilariously funny how think they’re discreet but aren’t . The chemistry is there the side characters are gold , her best friend Sasha is just amazing everybody needs a Sasha in their life and Connor the annoying hockey player that seems like a total fuck boy but I’m pretty sure he’s a golden retriever, they’re just chef’s kisses for this whole cast. This is the debut novel and I was fortunate enough to be an arc reader, which I am so grateful for I absolutely loved this book. I only wish there was more of it, but there will be more in the series so I am looking forward to reading more about these characters and if you like hockey if you like romance, if you like spice and you like a little bit of drama and some surprises then you definitely need to read Capturing the Captain. I believe it comes out July 4 so great weekend read and it’s only like 220 something pages so it’s a quick read as well. Five stars definitely recommend.

Capturing the Captain follows Olivia, a sports photographer who lands a job with a Florida hockey team, and Josh, the team’s captain. From the very first chapter, I was hooked. The prologue immediately pulled me in, and Olivia’s voice had me laughing almost straight away. Josh also made a fantastic first impression with plenty of green flags, and the team banter was exactly the kind of hockey romance content I love.
This was one of those books that was incredibly easy to keep turning pages. The story was addictive, the chemistry worked well, and there were enough surprises along the way to keep me guessing. As someone who reads a lot of hockey romances, I appreciated that the plot still managed to feel fresh and unpredictable.
My only reason for not rating it higher is that I would have loved a little more of the in-between moments. There are a few time jumps throughout the story, and I found myself wishing I could spend more time with Olivia and Josh as they got to know each other and their relationship developed.
The supporting cast was another highlight. The team dynamic was great, and I quickly became invested in the side characters. I especially enjoyed the friendship between Olivia and Josh’s best friend. If this becomes a series featuring other members of the team, I’ll definitely be picking up the next book.

This was such a fun read. I picked it up looking for a hockey romance and ended up finishing it much faster than I expected because I kept wanting to know what would happen next.
The chemistry between the main characters was great from the start, and I loved the banter between them. There were plenty of sweet moments mixed in with the tension, and the emotional parts felt genuine without being overly dramatic. I also appreciated that the characters had enough depth that I found myself invested in them as individuals, not just as a couple.
The hockey aspect added to the story without taking over, which I always enjoy in sports romances. While there were a few moments that felt a little predictable, they didn’t take away from how enjoyable the overall story was.
If you’re a fan of sports romance, lovable characters, good chemistry, and a story that keeps you engaged from beginning to end, I’d definitely recommend this one.

Capturing the Captain absolutely stole my heart. I was hooked from start to finish and couldn’t get enough of this story.
Olivia and Josh’s relationship was so pure and beautiful from the very beginning. They definitely had their ups and downs, but watching them work through everything together made their journey all the more rewarding.
I also loved the side characters and found myself just as invested in them. Conor and Sasha especially caught my attention, and the tension between them was enough to fuel a fire. I’m really hoping we get more of their story in future books.
If you’re looking for a sports romance that perfectly balances spice, emotion, and lovable characters, then I would definitely recommend this one. I absolutely loved every minute of it

ARC Review - Ate this up in a day! Honestly gave it 5 stars because I LOVE a book with a good balance of banter and tenderness. It had my feet kicking it was such a fun read. If you love these tropes, you’ll love this book!

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and will voluntarily be giving my honest review. This book was such a great read! This is a hockey romance that will draw you in from the start!! The chemistry between the two is phenomenal! The banter was absolutely great! There were plenty of surprises to keep you thinking and wanting more!!

I received this book as an ARC and as a fellow hockey-romance lover this one did not disappoint.
From the very beginning the author grabs your attention and leaves you wanting more. I do wish there would have been a little more yearning and “chase” within the character relationship development-however that is simply a personal preference.
Overall this was a well written dual POV with 3/5 on the 🌶️ and 4/5 ⭐️

If you find yourself in a Garrett and Hannah slump this Hockey Romance is for you. I feel in love with Josh and Olivia instantly. E. J. Campbell has brought all my emotions to life with this book. She has made me laugh, I felt giddiness that made me kick my feet because it so good, too tears.
Olivia moves to Florida to be closer to her best friend after a bad breakup. Upon getting her dream interview to be a photographer for an NHL hockey team she meets Josh, the Captain of the said Hockey team. Sparks fly but will it be as simple as we all hope for it to be. Will the past come back to ruin everything? Can Olivia capture the captain?
I loved the supporting characters. The love you feel from Sasha for Olivia to the bond between Josh and Conor is amazing.
I can't wait to see what's in store for the next couple. I have my guess who it will be but no spoilers from me! 🤫

Capturing the Captain straight out of the gate captures your attention and keeps hold of you until the very end. The book is a very sweet he falls hard, fast instalove novella that does not disappoint, only rises to easy reading perfection. This is a cozy and heartfelt book that you can easily burn through within a day depending on your speed, because of course you won't want to put it down. The spice in this is steamy but not too much just that perfect balance of spice and plot that makes a book really good.
Olivia woods is a photographer hoping to get a job as a sports photographer when she literally falls right over herself when she sees a group of hockey player hunks. Suddenly a dashing Josh Evans and Captain of the Florida flames is introducing himself. Such an adorable meet-cute! They fall hard and fast but the players were warned not to go near Olivia because of the last photographers indiscretions. They start a secret relationship but just like most secrets they don't stay in the dark for long. Will they risk it all for love?
Olivia and Josh were absolutely adorable together. One of my favourite tropes is fall hard and fast and it's done so well in this. When you know you know and you could feel that in the pages when these two were together. Soulmate energy for sure! I loved the build up, tension and yes I'll admit even the third act break-up. Hear me out I know I usually really don't like third act break-ups but this one was done really well and one of those necessary ones. You'll recover, it's okay. I don't want to spoil anything so I can only hint but my favourite trope also happens in this and I absolutely loved that for them. Their HEA was so sweet!
I loved all the characters in this and they added so much to the story. Olivia of course I could relate to reminded me so much of myself, sweet yet fierce and determined. She has the kindest of hearts that would do anything for those she cared about. Josh is that golden retriever type man with such kindness and equally bold. When he falls he falls hard, sign me up for this book boyfriend I'll take one please! Sasha was such a spitfire and attitude to boot but that loyal friend you want at your back. She brought a lot of sass and fun to the story. I'm definitely a fan of Conor as he's so funny and has that demeanor that just draws attention. You could easily tell under all the ego and laughs he has a really sensitive side. The other hockey guys were wonderful too and I hope to get to know them better in future books.

At times you will laugh, you will cry, get angry and frustrated - most of all, you will love the twists! This book will charm “the pants off you” and leave you going back for more. This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. You will fall in love with Josh and Olivia. They compliment each in some many ways - faults and all.

This was such a cute, easy read and I genuinely had a great time with it!
The only thing that stopped me rating it higher was the insta-love trope. It’s not usually my favourite because I love a bit of tension, slow-burn pining, or at least some build-up before the characters are completely head over heels. With Josh and Olivia, it felt like they went on one date and suddenly they were all in. I just wish their feelings had been drawn out a little more because I think it would’ve made their relationship feel even more believable and satisfying.
Now, Josh… what an absolute walking green flag. 🥹 Honestly, I don’t think I have a single bad thing to say about him. He was kind, patient, supportive, and just genuinely cared about the people around him. He never came across as overly possessive or full of unnecessary drama, he was simply dependable, respectful, and always wanted what was best for Olivia. He was sweet and I couldn’t help but love him.
Olivia had me a little conflicted at times. There were moments where she felt much younger than she actually was, mainly because of some of the things she said or the way she reacted in certain situations but aside from that, I really liked her. Her music taste is basically identical to mine, which definitely scored her some bonus points. I also loved how naturally she fit in with Josh’s friendship group. Her relationship with all of his mates felt genuine, and it was lovely seeing those friendships develop alongside the romance.
Can we also talk about Conor? Low-key, he might’ve been my favourite character in the entire book. Every time he appeared, he had me laughing, and he brought so much personality to the story. I’m really hoping he gets his own book because I’d read that in a heartbeat.

Josh and Olivia are trying to keep their relationship secret but they don’t try very hard to- stealing moments together at events, being close enough for him to smell her hair etc at photography shoots. Olivia grinding all over the team players also seemed odd, no professional would do that especially with the no fraternisation rule.

Capturing the Captain is a very easy book to read. It is the kind of story you can finish in one sitting. I found it quite addicting because I kept turning the pages without even realizing it.
The characters each have their own charm. As someone who has been enjoying hockey romances lately despite not knowing a single thing about hockey, this book was such a fun read.
The tropes are very familiar. They are ones you have probably seen in many other books, yet I still found myself completely invested in the story. There were a lot of things I really liked, and there were also a few things I wish had been done a little differently.
One of my favorite parts was the team itself. I am a big sucker for found family dynamics, and this team truly felt like a family. Their chemistry with one another was great, and it kept me interested from beginning to end. If there are other spinoff stories involving the other characters, i would definitely be down to read it as well. I really enjoyed the team and I wish to see more of them soon.
As I mentioned earlier, there were a few things I wish had been improved. Some moments felt like they were rushed, and I found myself wishing the story would slow down so we could spend more time with Josh and Olivia and see their relationship develop a little more. I also lowkey wished for more conflict but that's just me.

Can't say enough good things about this beautiful love story! I devoured this book in a single day. As a huge fan of The Deal, I'm in my hockey era at the moment, so of course when I saw the premise of this book I was intrigued. The concept had a lot of potential and I appreciated the author's creativity by making the story unique and different. I struggled a bit with the pacing and character development because it felt like Josh and Liv's story escalated a bit too quickly, with both of them having a bit of an "insta-love" scenario from the get-go. Personally I like to see a bit more struggle before the relationship is established, especially considering Olivia was still recovering from a controlling relationship. This is more of a personal preference than a critique on the book itself, because I felt that they both managed to overcome individual struggles to make the relationship work throughout the book (Olivia's trust issues with her ex and Josh's history as a player). Josh really put in the work to gain Olivia's trust and worked through her issues with such patience that it was hard not to fall in love with him. I particularly enjoyed the Karaoke scene and how much Josh continually protects and defends Olivia from Ryan, her horrible ex.
Overall this was a solid read, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's got so many great tropes, a bit of forbidden romance because Olivia works for the hockey team Josh is the captain of, and a great story of healing, growing and learning to trust. Great character development and highly recommend for fans of The Deal by Elle Kennedy, Unsteady by Peyton Corrine, and Power Play by Chelsea Curto.

I read this entire book in one single sitting! I was so completely captivated by Olivia and Josh's story that I stayed up until 3:30 AM without even realizing how much time had passed. If you need a smooth, refreshing romance that doubles as a perfect palette cleanser, this is absolutely it.

The Realism: The situations felt so grounded and authentic. I identified so deeply with Olivia (the FMC) and the broad array of emotions she went through. E.J. Campbell writes in a way that makes you feel like you are right there inside the story—I felt the passion and the heat of every situation without being the main character myself.
The Spice & Connection: Right on point! It actually took me back to one of my own hottest personal relationships. The author perfectly captures that unparalleled, soul-deep love where you can literally feel when your person walks into the room before you even physically see them. That feeling is unmatched.
The Ending: Seeing Olivia and Josh get their well-deserved happy ending brought so much genuine joy to my heart.

I am very appreciative to have been given the opportunity to read this one in advance, and I think my overall rating of the book is a good one but I do want to be honest.
For me(and this didnt take away from my rating) I do not like the insta-love trope. I get falling fast but this was like one date and BAM we love each other, which I just can't get into. The characters are good, although I would have liked a bit more backstory on them to help with the story developement and to better understand their perspectives.
And while she does explain in the end, for a relationship that was supposed to be in secret, for her to dirty dance all over someone who is supposed to be a colleague didnt seem to go with that theme.
I think the thing that made me not give this one 4 stars was the lack of follow through on the story.. Ryan- ok so he knows you are dating(you never made that a secret), and he assumes you havent told anyone but then how does he know where you work, what the policy is and how did he get a meeting with the mgmt? also then nothing is ever said to him until she yells at him at the end, and nothing was said to Connor and we still dont know how he knew. just seemed like this was unfinished.
And while I am guessing Sasha will have her own story, you spent time to explain she was going through it with her fiance, but then no followup or finish.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was easy to follow so I could just turn my brain off and read. It was nice to see how they both just fell in love at first sight. The whole team had this goofy. great friendship vibe that I wouldn't mind reading more about. And then Olivia en Josh, the intensity with how much they liked each other was sometimes a bit much for my liking, but not too bad that ik bothered me. I really liked the book from the start, the story really started immediately but you also really got to know the FMC and MMC from the beginning.
There were some stuff that I didn't enjoy as much, like the immediate 'claiming' by Josh. Him constantly calling Olivia 'my girl' of ' baby' when they just met was giving me the ick a little bit. Also with a night out with your colleagues is it maybe a bit much to be dancing sensual with them, but hey that can just be the vibe of the night out, for me personally it was a little much.
I would have also liked to have read a little more about Olivia and Josh in their work and private life separate from each other, now it was just mostly them in one of their apartments. I think it would have been nice to get to know them both separate from each other as well and get to now their work some more.
And then of course the ending, I enjoyed that a lot. You can't have a good story without a little heartbreak but then eventually getting back together. I did she the 'big reveal' kinda coming but it was still nice to read how Josh reacted to the news.

I also found several plot threads felt underdeveloped. The conflict surrounding Olivia’s ex-fiancé had potential, but I wanted more tension and follow-through. Some side storylines were introduced and then never fully explored, leaving me with questions by the end.
While I enjoyed the hockey setting and the workplace romance premise, the overall story felt rushed and could have benefited from additional character development and more time spent building both the romance and the supporting plotlines.
This book may work well for readers who enjoy fast-paced instalove romances and don’t mind relationships developing quickly. Unfortunately, I tend to prefer more emotional build-up and character growth, so this one wasn’t the right fit for me.

Josh awakens the lioness in Olivia and the exhibitionist scenes were HOT!!
That tattoo that Olivia had Josh get was so heartwarming and if he didn't love her then, he definitely fell after that.
Olivia's ex lives in the same apt complex that Josh lives in and he gets his claws in the relationship. He threatens to tell management about their relationship where Josh would be fired. She then breaks Josh's heart because of this jerk.
They are apart for 2-3 months and then BAM Olivia has a bun in the oven.
The part I laughed out loud was when Olivia and Josh were hiding for no reason; it was not forbidden to see each other.
Throughout it all her best friend Sasha is steadfast, even when they have a rocky blip. Conor, Josh's best friend is there for him and Olliepop. They even give their baby the middle name Connie. This was such a cute story, and a great first novel from this author. I cannot wait to read the rest of the Florida Flames world.

I really enjoyed this book, it was lighthearted, fast paced and the spice was incredibly hot. I loved the relationships with their two best friends - incredibly wholesome and adorable. I would have loved to see more of their FMC’s relationship with the MMC’s best friend, as they kind of just become besties towards the end of the book but we don’t get to see that progress.
I would have liked more yearning, as they get together almost immediately, but I also loved that we got to see them happy together for a lot of the book.
The surprise ending was gorgeous and I loved it!
A couple of things I felt were odd were the casual misogyny between the players at the start of the book - they aren’t really necessary to the story and don’t add anything to the characters story lines. I also found the use of ‘lesbian dancing’ to describe the two women grinding on each other a weird turn of phrase.
A lot of this book is framed around the FMC landing her dream job and not wanting to risk losing it (hence secret relationship), however there is scenes in the book which seem counterintuitive to this premise e.g the FMC grinding on and dancing on a bunch of the MMC’s team mates at a party to make the MMC jealous/turn him on. I feel like someone who truely cared about their job wouldn’t do this. It also seems like a weird way to turn your boyfriend on, given that they don’t have an open relationship and this is not a why choose romance novel.
Overall this book is a great quick and easy read. I enjoyed the writing style and the characters are all incredibly likeable. Some of the story line I would have loved to see more fleshed out or in more detail, but it would have made for a much longer book.

The book follows Olivia and Josh, who meet when Olivia interviews to be a photographer for the Florida Flames ice hockey team, where Josh is the captain. The attraction between them is instant, and while Olivia isn’t officially an employee yet, there’s no harm in having a little fun… right? Of course, things don’t stay simple for long. As their feelings grow, they’re forced to navigate the risk of scandal while confronting the past.
This was such an easy, heartwarming read. I loved the dual POV, and both the main and supporting characters were really likeable. While it has spice, it still feels wholesome, which I really enjoyed. The romance moved from 0 to 100 pretty quick, but that fits the story and the instant attraction between the characters. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a sweet, spicy hockey romance.

The book follows Olivia and Josh, who meet when Olivia interviews to be a photographer for the Florida Flames ice hockey team, where Josh is the captain. The attraction between them is instant, and while Olivia isn’t officially an employee yet, there’s no harm in having a little fun… right? Of course, things don’t stay simple for long. As their feelings grow, they’re forced to navigate the risk of scandal while confronting the past.
This was such an easy, heartwarming read. I loved the dual POV, and both the main and supporting characters were really likeable. While it has spice, it still feels wholesome, which I really enjoyed. The romance moved from 0 to 100 pretty quick, but that fits the story and the instant attraction between the characters. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a sweet, spicy hockey romance.

Love Love Love! Hockey Romance is my favorite genre, and I was hooked from the beginning.
This book is definitely more instalove than I am used to, but it worked in this case as they both immediately felt that pull/spark/connection.
I devoured this in 1 day (if finishing at 2am this morning doesn't count as the next day lol) and am so excited for future books. Sasha and Conor - looking at you!
Josh is a total green flag the entire book, even openly and truthfully admitting to his not so gentlemanly ways with the ladies prior to meeting Olivia. They are so sweet to each other. Ryan - total villian and gives off Phil Graham type vibes with the blackmail. Ugh.
Overall, I thought this was a well written, dual POV, hockey romance, with just the right amount of spice. Can't wait for the next installment.

This review may give an indication that I didn’t like the book… But I did… I just had a few issues with certain aspects…
It’s an off limits romance between a team photographer and the hockey captain… or is it?
I enjoyed it.
Yet… and this is where it may be a little rough…
It’s an entertaining read. It reads quickly, and is quite fun. But it felt more like a young adult/ college romance instead of mature people with actual careers.
I really didn’t like the ‘lesbian dancing’ commentary…. Really?? Is that necessary - just because two girls are likely grinding on each other does not make it ‘lesbian dancing’.
I wish there was actually some kind of focus on her photography. Why use it as a hook, then have nothing (or near to nothing) in the story.
The conflict with the ex - I like how she dragged him, but I want more comeuppance.
However, it did have a sweet ending that was really cute.

This could have been a 5 star read if it had the whole situation with her Ex either was not involved or actually explained more. The confusion on him "finding out" where she works and all that chaos was strange to me. The standoff with him was sudden and he no longer is around....
I did love Josh though and honestly he communicated well with Olivia. I actually despise "miscommunication" tropes. I did feel like Olivia jumped to conclusions and was way too prone to self sacrifice.
The fact alone is by the end you realize if Olivia would have attempted to read or atleast attempt to find a loophole alot would have been different. That is not to take away from the story. There was humor, banter, love, and friendship that was very much enjoyable to read.
I am curious on Sash and a certain golden retriever character.

I will never turn down a sports romance and this one did not disappoint! It was fast paced which I love and a quick easy read. For a debut novel, it was so good.
It was very well written, kept me engaged through the whole thing and the plot twist towards the end was fabulous. This is an instalove book where the MCs fell for eachother pretty quickly. I would have loved to have seen more of their relationship but I cant wait for a book 2 on the side characters.

What a great debut novel! This hockey romance is filled with many great tropes: forbidden romance, he falls first, and insta-love. This book is perfect for romance readers that enjoy a little humor, major chemistry, and lots of spice in their novels! I really enjoyed all of the witty banter between the FMC and MMC, but could do with a lot less pet names. (It seems like every time a character spoke, a nickname or pet name was used.) Otherwise I had a hard time putting down this book and look forward to more to come in this series!

The story between the MMC (Josh) and the FMC (Olivia) has you hooked from the very beginning. They have their ups and downs like any relationship but the way they work through them is great! Especially since the MMC is the one trying to make sure they have great communication and trust. Especially since they feel like they have to keep their relationship on the DL because of their jobs.
The side characters in this book, oh man I loved almost all of them. Especially Conor, he had me laughing every time he was involved.
