Private detective Cooper Harrington had been invited to a gala do for music moguls, politicians and hangers on. He wasn't keen, but went in the interests of duty - the actions of some caused the biggest case of his career to hit him and his team, and alongside Chief Ben Mason and Ben's officers, they investigated the murder of Grayson Taylor on the night of the gala. Nashville housed many in the music industry and Grayson Taylor was one of them. As Coop, his assistant Annabelle (AB to her friends), Jimmy and Coop's adorable dog Gus, did their jobs, Ben was doing his. But secrets ran deep, and corruption was rife. Would Coop and Ben find the killer before more died? It was a baffling case...

Killer Music is the 1st in the Cooper Harrington series by Tammy L. Grace and I enjoyed it very much. Gus was adorable, I wanted to cuddle him! Great characters, well written and easy to follow, I'm keen to check out #2 now. Recommended.

Killer Music is the first book in the Cooper Harrington Detective Series. Cooper (or "Coop") is a private detective. He finds himself on the case of the murder of Grayson Taylor. Coop, along with his friend, Detective Ben Mason, are working like crazy to find the murderer. This book was full of engaging characters that had me interested right away. It was a book that I wanted to keep reading and didn't want to put down to have to do pesky things like sleep. If you are looking for a mystery that keeps you guessing and will have your heart pounding, this book is it. I am looking forward to reading the next book, Deadly Connection. I loved how everything came together at the end of this one.

I received a copy of this book for a book tour. I also borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. My review is being voluntarily posted and my opinions are my own.

This book has some good bones and I enjoyed it. It's a pretty solid little cozy mystery.

The characters were an issue for me. I know I'm picky, but they might as well have been paper dolls acting out scenes in my head. Giving them quirks is great but I need more than that. I'd like some insight into their actual personalities. Give me their thoughts. Show me who they are instead of their work ethic, quirks, and food preferences.

Other than this, I did enjoy it. It was too easy to put it down because I wasn't invested. I think if Ms. Grace continues to grow in her character creation, she can go far in the book world. Plot and storytelling are mostly solid.

If you're a pastry fan, you'll really enjoy this. You also might gain twenty pounds :)

This was an interesting read. To follow Cooper (Coop) Harrinton's utilization of his ring tone, The Theme From Perry Mason, a famous movie and television series, the book read to me like watching an episode, which in my home was 'never' missed!

Coop attends a fundraiser with his current Lady. The fundraiser has an assortment of notables from the Nashville, Tennessee. Musicians, Legislatures, etc. all flow together and enjoy the music and food selections amid galleries of art. Coop finds a couple having an argument. Then, he later sees the male move on to other loud arguments, finally, he sees him somewhat lurking around the appetizer section of the buffet table. What is that man's story?

Well, when a body is found the next morning by the venue's gardeners...Coop is destined to learn just that fact.

Coop Harrington has inherited his Uncle's detective agency. Although Coop is a lawyer, he worked with his uncle for years and finds the agency a good fit for himself and his pal, Gus, a golden retriever.

As in Perry Mason, you get the feeling that his secretary/right arm, Annabelle (AB) would like to be closer to Coop but he is blind to it. Unlike Perry Mason, Coop is close friends with the Chief of Police and joins him in finding who the killer is.

I enjoyed the tale and was interested in who and why the killer murdered this one man. Interesting novel.

I love a good mystery and this book did not disappoint! Grayson Taylor is murdered at a party and there are really no suspects in site. Sure there are tons of people at the party but it doesn't seem like anyone has a motive to kill the music executive despite the fact that he was cheating on his wife and planning to start his own music label.

The author does not really lay out any clues for you to guess who the killer is, which is a good and bad thing. I followed along and wondered if it was this character or that character but never really knowing why. It is crazy what breaks the case wide open for Coop...that and some PI work that had unexpected benefits. Once that clue comes out the book moves at a faster pace and really kept me hooked until the end.

I think this will be a good series and I wonder if Coop and his office manager, AB (Annabelle) are destined to become love interests for each other. They have a good chemistry and I could see it happening.

This book has the potential to be good but the execution was poor. I’m not sure if it was just the kindle version but there were so many grammatical and punctuation errors that should have been fixed before publishing. There was no connection with the characters and I felt no attachment to them. The concept of the mystery was good but I just didn’t like the execution or the character development.

Enjoyable book

A novel with a complex mystery; when a popular music mogul is killed at a party attended by hundreds of guests. They were mostly from the music industry, and from the political scene. Cooper is a PI and an interesting character who wears ironic tshirts. The characters were complicated, but remarkably believable. Gus, a golden retriever, is Coopers constant companion, and a real character.

Kindle Unlimited

No use giving the supposed plot, beause the blurb given isn't accurate and to accurately explain the flaws and plot holes and abuse of sytax and grammar would be {while much more entertaining than the 'book'} just slightly less a waste of everyone's time, as the 'writing' is repetitious, juvenile and dull as well as aggravating with all the 'padding' {which is extra 'stuff' stuck in here and there and everwhere to 'up' the word count of a book especially when on kindle unlimited, although it does absolutely nothing for the story line except to confuse and pad}. In the previous review, had several pargraphs {yes really} pointing area after area out, but goodreads erased the review because of the few sentences at the very top that separately started the review, so the majority was detailing all that out but everything was erased. Evidently, when a review is detailed out, it is an attack on the 'writer' even though it details out the issues with the book, and the reader/reviewer is pointing out the problems and issues of something that someone else wrote {rather the point of reviews} and is about the writING. Guess that's why some reviews are just star ratings of 1 or 2 and no details because would get deleted.

It is one of those 'stories' that would be totally forgettable except to make sure you did not, ever, get another one of these 'stories', not even as a giveaway so you wouldn't waste your time waiting just to totally be disappointed in EVERY way. So bad you want to take the kindle unlimited and put the story back to the beginning so that the book did not register with amazon as being read so they didn't get the 'pennies' from the 'read', or get refund for purchase price and time lost reading the drivel even though gotten on freebie day. *It is highly suggested, no matter what, to NOT throw the kindle or other reading device, especially if it's a pc or other such type reader. Physical books should not, usually, be thrown, either.

This book was actually reviewed back in June, but was removed supposedly for TOS violations. *for Goodreads TOS anyone can google it, but the online googled version that just say wasn't much like the list sent by gr that was more specific, about 7 items, ending with and can be removed for good reason or no reason at all, so no use posting those here {plus would have to dig in my email for too long to find} BUT REMEMBER EVERY GIVEWAY {whether gotten or NOT} has to be noted, just as review or ARC copies have to be noted, otherwise the reviewer is in violation of the TOS, so if you won a book, but didn't actually get the book...well, no idea how to follow their TOS yet not break it at same time.

*This is a newer review but don't have the original date to look at so putting today.

I had mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the characters but felt a little disconnect due to the writing style. It feels very "tell - not show" and I often felt like I was reading a summary of events. But I'm going to give the next installment a try since I already own it and see if my "disconnect" continues.

This is my first book by this author and the first in the Cooper Harrington series. What drew me to tot his book is it's location. It takes place in Nashville, TN and since I live about 3 hours from there, I visit frequently so I loved the idea of a book in a location I am familiar with.

Given that it is set in Nashville, it seems inevitable that the story will center around the music industry, at least in part. Cooper (aka Coop) is a lawyer turned private investigator. He worked with his uncle in his PI firm and when his uncle passed away, Coop took over the business. His new female companion invites him along to an event where some influential figures from the music and politics worlds are present. This really isn't his thing, but he goes anyway, and, in the process, he meets some interesting people including Music Mogul Grayson Taylor. Little did he know the next day, he would be investigating Grayson's murder. There are not a lot of suspects in this case, since everyone seems to really like Grayson. As they dg deeper into the life of Grayson we find out he does have some secrets. Could these secrets be what got him killed? Since no one has a clear motive, this one is hard to figure out. It is a surprise who holds the key to unlocking this case wide open. Who else might be in danger before they find the killer!!

I like Coop, he is a bit quirky with his crazy T-shirts. He is not much of a suit and tie kinda guy. He is more jeans and T-shirts with crazy sayings type of guy. I especially love his Golden Retriever Gus. Even though I enjoyed this book the characters lacked a bit of depth. I hope the following books dig deeper into Coopers past and we learn more about him and what makes him tick. I also wonder if there will be some romance between him and his assistant Annabelle. This book takes the reader on a ride through the music and political scene of Nashville with secrets, lies & Scandals. Without a lot of suspects, it is a surprise once all the pieces fall together to solve this high-profile murder mystery.

Killer Music is the first book in the Cooper Harrington Detective series by Tammy L. Grace. A story of a murdered music mogul, a high-and-mighty widow and one detective determined to track down a killer. Cooper “Coop” Harrington meets Grayson Taylor, a record label mogul, at a glitzing party of country music stars and politicians. He never thought he would be investigating his murder the next day. With plenty of suspects, with many people who wanted him dead. Coop is hired by Emily, Taylor’s widow, he has a tag team including Ben Mason, his best friend of Chief of Detectives, Annabelle, his assistant, even his Aunt Camille becomes a useful fountain of local gossip. As the investigation reveals scandalous indiscretions, secrets, and corruption that it becomes a race against time to catch the killer…before another victim is taken. Can Coop and his team find the evidence they need?
Coop Harrington is a Nashville lawyer turned private detective. Of course, a great detective has a great team behind him. For Coop, it’s his right hand assistant, Annabelle. Coop and Annabelle have a Perry Mason/Della vibe. Killer Music is a fun cozy mystery with the usual suspects including the ice queen, less than a grieving widow. Coop’s Aunt Camille was a lot of fun too! If you are looking for a psychological thriller or a traditional mystery, this is that book. Killer Music has a Perry Mason/Murder, She Wrote/Colombo vibe. If you enjoyed these shows, you will probably enjoy Killer Music, which is filled with humor, southern charm, and comfort food. Warning: do not read this book while hungry. You’ll want to eat everything the characters are having. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. I recommend Killer Music.

Killer Music is available in paperback, eBook, and audiobook

I didn't hate this one. It was almost 3 stars. The writing was very simplistic (this happened, then this happened, and next...). There were a few grammatical things the proof-reader didn't catch. None of those things are necessarily deal breakers for me.

I was more put off by the listing of very meal/snack the main character ingested over the course of story. The book could have been 25 pages shorter without knowing about the meatloaf, biscuits, chicken salad, breakfast casserole, peanut M & Ms, etc. And another thing...I would really be surprised if this author is from the south or if she has even spent much time in the south. People from around here don't say "sweet tea". If you are in the south, ALL of the tea is sweet unless you ask for it the other way.

I suppose my largest disappointment was Gus, the dog. I am a sucker for a book with a good dog in it. And when the dog is prominently displayed on the book's cover, you expect him or her to be a major character. He was just pretty much a beloved tag-a-long. (If you need a book where the dog is a major player, check out Watchers by Dean Koontz.)

I very much appreciated that this book was not filled with vile language or gratuitous sex scenes. There are three more books in this series. Clearly a couple of characters are meant to become romantically involved as the series unfolds. I wish them well, but I don't think I will follow along as I am in search of a good 5 star read.

Killer Music by Tammy L Grace is the first in the Cooper Harrington Detective Series featuring his golden retriever, Gus. Cooper ("Coop") Harrington has a circle of close associates that includes Annabelle, his assistant and Ben, Chief of Detectives. Coop lives with his Aunt Camille in her mansion and she enjoys doing her sleuthing bit to add interest to his investigations along with baking cookies. The fun thing with Coop are his T-shirts, which usually have a witty and topical message. We are introduced to Grayson Taylor, a music mogul, who is offed early on. Gray has left a legacy behind--a son--(surprise, surprise), in addition to several additional recent decisions any of which might be motive right there. I had a problem with a couple things: (1) I could not get into the character of Coop--he seemed to lack a bit of substance, where Annabelle, bless her heart, exuded it. (2) The plot tended to drag somewhat when the story line went all tell instead of show. And then that was repeated until, what?? he had a kidney stone attack. Ms. Grace tailored some interesting descriptions, and I could have used a bit more of the dog other than the occasional tail wag or face lick. I received this download in exchange for an honest review. Short, cozy mystery you may enjoy.

I'm so happy I found Author Tammy Grace! I love her writing...she really knows how to engage her readers right from the start and make them feel like they are part of the action! Her characters are amazing...I just love Coop! The Cooper Harrington Detective Novels are my kind of books! The first in the series, Killer Music, will grab you by the reigns and pull you in. The cover immediately caught my interest (because I love books with animals) and I love mysteries. :-) I'll let you read the plot description for yourself so I do not accidentally give anything away 😉, but I'm telling you, you're going to really enjoy it. Whenever I finish a book that I love, I always feel like It's a vacation that ended too soon. Not in this case, though, because lucky for me, I was able to immediately move on to Book 2! Vacation extended: Woohooo! Thank you, Tammy Grace, for filling my summer with excitement (after all, your books are the only vacation I get this summer...hehee!). Keep up the great work! 5/5 stars...highly recommended!

Thank you for reading my review. :-) I hope it helped.

Even though the police were investigating the murder of Grayson Taylor, his widow hired Coop to find his murderer. Rather than duplicate their work, Coop worked with his friend Chief of Detectives, Ben Mason, on the investigation. They had quite a job ahead of them since Gray was murdered at a big party with hundreds of music artists and politicians attending making them all suspects.

I liked the way the investigation process was explained and how Ben and Coop worked to figure out who killed Gray. Every time I thought I knew whodunit, I was proven wrong. That made this story even more gripping. I HAD to find out who did it. When the murderer was revealed it was someone I never suspected. And the reason Gray was killed was even more surprising.

Not only was it a “can’t put it down” murder mystery but it had wonderful characters, too. I especially liked Coop, AB, and Aunt Camille. But Gray's wife was one person I loved-to-hate.

I am glad I was given this book to review and will definitely be reading more in this series. I recommend it to those who like murder mysteries.

PI Cooper Harrington met record company exec Grayson Taylor less than a day before he—Taylor—is found brutally murdered. Taylor’s widow hires Cooper to investigate in tandem with the Nashville police, and working with his friend, Chief of Detectives Ben Mason, he uncovers dirty dealings in the record industry, political corruption, and a murder who, if not caught, will kill again.

Killer Music by Tammy L. Grace is an interesting mystery that explores the sordid underbelly of the recording industry, and despite being a bit choppy in places, will keep you entertained from start to finish. There are plenty of red herrings and useless clues, until Cooper finds the crucial clue that holds the answers to the crime. His problem: he has little time to unmask the killer before someone else dies.

I received a free copy of this book, the author’s first in this series. I give it three and a half stars.

First off, I love the cover of the book! Tammy L. Grace is a fairly new author to me, and I have not been disappointed! I came across this detective book and was intrigued. Coop and his dog, Gus, make a great pair. After taking over his uncle's detective business after he died, Cooper has been very successful. I love his aunt who loves to make big meals for him and anyone else who comes by. His assistant Annabelle is pretty much like family. It's got wonderful feel good family togetherness but also very intriguing suspense of the crimes Cooper tries to solve. I definitely did not have this one figured out til the end. I didn't want it to end, and was pleasantly surprised that this is book 1 of a series. I can't wait to read more about Cooper and Gus and what comes their way.

This is the first book of the series. I enjoyed all the characters very much. There’s a dog, Gus in the story. He’s not a crime solver but an asset to the story. A murder occurs. A high profile person in the music industry. He just found out he has an out of wed lock son by his high school sweetheart whom he thought had an abortion. Grayson Taylor quickly calls his lawyer and provides for his son. It’s unknown who the killer is. Coop Harrington a PI is hired by the widow to find the killer. The chief of detectives is a good friend of Coop. Together they solve the murder. There are many suspects and towards the end the clues will give you the killer. The book is very easy reading. The characters are very likable and believable. I can’t wait to start on book #2.

A tangled web off mysteries

Cooper Harrington is a very likeable character. Like most men, he does not see his match is right under his nose. So, he goes to a gala event that ends with a murder. He works with the Nashville Chief of Police, a long-time friend, to eventually solve not only that murder but sever all others as well as two attempted murders and political, business, and legal firm corruption. When it is over, he has broken off with the woman he attended with--and one can o Lynn hope he is beginning to see AB as the valuable woman she is. Looking forward to reading book two in this series.

Gets Better

As with most "detective" novels, this has a slow start. I don't know much about police procedures, but Coop's relationship with the Nashville PD strains the seams of credibility. Since suspending disbelief is the crux of all fiction, Killer Music manages to overcome the line between what is real and what is marginally possible.
The characters are likeable (especially Gus and Aunt Camille). Is it possible that MS Grace could not resist am element of Romance between Coop and AB? Guess we'll just have go keep reading the next in the series.
Keep up the good work, MS Grace.

Oh my goodness, what a great Find!!! Was bored on day and started looking at mystery who-dunnits, and found this book. Thought, why not, sounds interesting…boy was I wrong!!! It was not interesting, it was FANTASTIC!!!!!! Yes, it definitely had interesting and so many twists and turns. To be honest, I read A LOT of books, and can pretty much figure out who did it within the first 3 chapters. This book, didn’t see it coming. The cast of characters, are very multi dimensional, and have depth, plus, who doesn’t love a dog as a companion!!! Needless to say, I am now downloading the rest of the series now. This is a must read book!!!!

Killer Music

Coop is a lawyer who took over his uncle's PI firm upon his death and still lives with his Aunt Camille, A genteel southern lady with a gracious way but a steel backbone. He does some lawyer stuff on the side. AB graduated from law school with him but never took the bar and is happy working as his assistant. This story is based on them working with fellow alumni Ken Mason who is Chief of Detectives and solving the murder of a music mogul, Grayson Taylor. Lots of twists and turns but they find their killer and a lot more. Really enjoyed this book and this author.

No motive for murder.

A man is murdered at a Nashville social event, and no one can figure out why. In comes Coop, hired by the deceased widow to solve his murder. Following dead ends and not finding anything out, Cooper and his company are fired from the job, but he refuses to give up on this case. These are complex and intriguing characters, and I have immensely enjoyed getting to know Cooper and all the people in his life. Lucky for me there are more books to get to know them all even better.

So Excited to Read More of This Series

The first book in the Cooper Harrington Detective series will keep me coming back! Cooper “Coop” Harrington runs a PI firm in Nashville which was started by his late uncle. Cooper and his friend, Ben Mason, Chief of Detectives for the Nashville PD work a murder case that keeps you guessing until the end. I truly appreciate that this was a clean read, the characters were developed but there is more to learn about them all and I am looking forward to discovering more in the upcoming novels.

This was an easy cozy mystery read. Lots of dialogue and not a lot of descriptions, but still pleasant to read. The characters were likeable and charming, perhaps maybe introduced to too many characters that I couldn't really distinguish, but still the main characters were good. I liked reading about how the detectives work and take notes and dissect a crime to solve the murder. Good chemistry with AB and Coop, nice development throughout the story. Nothing too crazy or amazing, just a charming, clean, and quick read. I plan to read more of the series for a break from more serious books. 3 stars.

The Music World Combined with Political Intrigue

This was a really good, fast-paced mystery. I think I learned more about Political corruption, and how deep it runs, than I really wanted to know! I enjoyed meeting Coop, Ben, AB and Gus. Aunt Camille was lovely. I think she could be fun and I hope to hear more from her in the next books. My one complaint was the unnecessary use of foul language - I almost put the book down because of it. I am glad I read this book, but I hope the next one is cleaner in that regard.

Politics, Kickbacks and Murder

Revisiting the sights and sounds of Nashville in this book was a treat. So was the character of Coop, a lawyer and PI tasked with the case of finding out who was behind the killing of one of the major characters, but had few lines in the story. A lot of behind the scenes action between a major political figure and a lawyer. A good book and I'm looking forward to reading about Coop and his faithful dog, Gus.

Killer Music : Killer Intrigue

This is the first Coop Harrington book I have read. The detail and thorough Ness makes for an intriguing mystery, especially if you spend the first quarter of the book having to adjust to a slightly different writing style. (I am used to reading mark Greaney. Jack Mars. And occasionally Zara Keane) it seems I have found a new series to add to my list of books to read!
