I read an advance copy of A Sunwoven Ascent by Haley M. Opet, and I really liked it!
We rejoin our characters right after the end of Book 1, as they’re on their way back to Evelyne’s family in the south of the country—a region that’s a bit less wild and more “civilized.” What they don’t realize is that while they may have defeated one threat, they’re bringing another one back with them. A threat that’s very close to them. And all the characters will have to give it their all to finally win this battle between good and evil.
I loved reading the multiple POV; there are a few more this time around, which helps put the world and the characters’ stories into better perspective. The magic system has been expanded upon in several ways that captivate you and make the battle against the Noskari well-balanced. For the second book in a duology, however, I found the first half a bit slow, before the pace picked up significantly—even feeling rushed—in the second half, which was packed with revelations and action. But everything flows perfectly, and the conclusion is satisfying! 4.5 ✨

Nous retrouvons nos personnages juste après la fin du tome 1, alors qu’ils sont en route pour rejoindre la famille d’Evelyne dans le sud du pays, un peu moins sauvage, plus "civilisé". Ce qu’ils ignorent, c’est que s’ils ont peut-être vaincu une menace, ils reviennent avec une autre. Une menace qui leur est très proche. Et il faudra que tous les personnages donnent le meilleur d’eux-mêmes pour enfin remporter cette bataille du bien contre le mal.
J'ai adoré lire les multiples points de vue ; il y en a quelques-uns de plus cette fois-ci, ce qui permet de mieux mettre en perspective l’univers et l’histoire des personnages. Le système magique bénéficie de plusieurs approfondissements qui vous captivent et rendent la bataille contre les Noskari équilibrée. Pour un deuxième tome d’une duologie, j’ai toutefois trouvé la première partie un peu lente, avant de ressentir une grande accélération, voir précipitation dans la seconde, qui regorgeait de révélations et d’action. Mais tout s’enchaîne parfaitement et la conclusion est satisfaisante ! 4,5 ✨

This book picks up right after the events of A Bloodveiled Descent, and from the first page, this book is so action packed! The final encounter was so good! The Noskari are such good enemies.

I really enjoyed getting to see the multiple POVs we get throughout the story, especially with all the different packs and roles they obtain.

This book, we expand even further into the magic system and the different abilities the characters have. Finding out about Alaric's ability, I was a little shocked by, but once the backstory was explained, it made sense.

I loved the blossoming of more relationships in this book, especially Alaric and Heidara. And even getting to see some of the other characters get together showed the unity between packs and magic type. The cast of characters also have this amazing found family dynamic.

This duology seamlessly blends regency romance with fantasy and I am so glad I got the opportunity to review the end of this duology! I loved how this duology was written!

Rounding up to 4 stars on this one. Overall the book was enjoyable and I thought that it was a reasonable follow up to A Bloodveiled Decent (book 1). While Opet continues to have a well written and strong voice/tone throughout the novel, there were times in the story that the plot felt a bit lost. This lead to some of the plot points feeling a bit repetitive and just slower paced in the first half of the story and in comparison to book 1. The book does pick up significantly in the last part and overall the ending was just and gave good closure to the duology. I appreciated that this was a true continuation of the first book and picks up where the last book leaves off. The romance is well written and is a mix of open and closed door romance.

As with the first book, the lore and world building in this follow up continued to be interesting and unique, and readers are given an even better look at the intricacies of the story and characters. I did really enjoy the fact that readers are given the chance to get to know the characters a bit more and to see new and budding relationships from the first book really settle in and bloom in book 2. I particularly enjoyed the introduction of Holden's love interest.

While I don't feel that this second book is as strong as the first book, I am grateful to have been given a chance to read it and would recommend it to anyone how is looking for a more lighthearted/ cozy with dark vibes regency inspired werewolf/witch romantasy tale. This is a book for the readers that are just getting their toes wet in the romantasy genre, are willing to invest in a storyline and like character building and relationship centric stories. While there are some adult themes in the story, I do think that it would be cautiously appropriate for a mature YA reader.

Grateful to have received an ARC version of this book. I look forward to seeing what else Opet writes. Thank you Haley, congratulations on completing The Solwyn Duology, overall this was a great and enjoyable two book series.

I’m awarding a Sunwoven Ascent 3.5 stars (4 on Goodreads - sort your half stars out besties!).

At the beginning of a Sunwoven Ascent we join Evelyne and Co. right where we left them in A Crimson Descent. This gives us an ability to gain clear character continuity and a renewed sense purpose as the book begins - we know who we’re with, roughly where we’re going and how we’re going to get there - giving a quest-like element to the book which I’m a fan of. We’re also able to keep track of how our characters are doing and growing/developing following the experiences they encounter at the end of the previous book which I personally loved! Through twists, turns and varying degrees of stakes, the book comes to a very satisfying conclusion - tying up each character and the main story with a gorgeous bow.

Hayley, as ever, retains her beautifully detailed prose and ensures us that no stone is left unturned throughout the world building elements of this book which gives us the ability to be easily immersed within the story.

My biggest criticism revolved around the plots pacing/progression. For around 50% of the book there is very limited progression of the plot and it does have very repetitive and predictable elements which did make me feel a little bored at times. And, when there was significant movement in the plot toward the latter part of the book, it did feel a little rushed and sometimes lacking in real depth. There are a lot of unsaid details within the book regarding the characters and their relationships with themselves (often their new selves) and others that I really would have loved to spend more time with too.

Overall the book was enjoyable - it made me smile, laugh, kick my feet - and the Solwyn Duology is a series that I would absolutely recommend to others…I also wouldn’t mind a Aurelia and Holden spin-off, just saying ✨

I really enjoyed this read! I thought it was a good continuation of the story and the timeline and events I thought had a good flow.

This is multiple POV, but our FMC Evelyne and her companions are recovering from the events in book one, and they are hit with even more life altering news. Their course is going to take them all South back toward Caltheris, to ball gowns, tea, and court gossip. However, they are in a race against time trying to figure out how they can protect themselves and their loved ones from the growing threat of remaining Noskari and dark magic. Our group has endured unspeakable horrors together and have found love and family, and plenty of long forgotten secrets that will either save them or ruin them.

I really liked getting to see more of the “side” characters. I say “side” characters, but everyone plays very important roles in the story. I thought the personal development and group dynamics worked very well.

I really liked that despite all the trauma and devastation our characters endure, there were still light hearted moments. The wolves learning about etiquette and Southern culture, and Kaldrek trying to explain a heat cycle to a fairly new shifter were fun and amusing, and a nice break that our characters needed from time to time. The Epilogue made me smile.

This was my first wolf shifter romance book so it was fun and a cool change of pace for me. Speaking of wolf shifters, I still just as much as the first book liked the way the shifting is described. And I’ve always liked things that were more macabre, so I really like the descriptions of the Noskari. How they look, how they move, they sound terrifying and fascinating.

A Sunveiled Ascent picked up right where the first book left off, and Evelyne had A LOT to come to terms with. She’s a wolf, Kaldrek is her mate, her brother is a Sun Weaver, and something dark has burrowed into Alaric. 😳
And while she’s trying to process all of that, she desperately needs to get home to make sure her family is safe from the Noskari.
I absolutely loved the multi-POV in this book. It gave us so much more insight into the characters and made the story feel bigger and wilder than the first book, while still keeping that fun Bridgerton-esque regency atmosphere woven throughout. That combination was SO good.
And Holden and Aurelia?! 😂 Their banter had me giggling and kicking my feet while they tiptoed around what they both very obviously knew was happening. I needed more of them!
I really enjoyed the direction this story took and loved seeing everything come together by the end. We got a happy ending for everyone, which was honestly lovely… but maybe I’ve read too many romantasies because I needed just a little more emotional damage. 😂 Give me the heartbreak. Make me suffer. Then give me my happy ending.
Overall, I really enjoyed this sequel and the expansion of the world and characters. It was wilder, more layered, and still had that regency charm that made the series so fun to read.
4 ⭐️ because apparently I require emotional devastation before I can hand out that fifth star. 😂

Great ending to the duology! Although Vaelora has been defeated the Noskari linger wreaking havoc - kidnapping, terrorizing and killing wolves and humans alike.

There are many significant revelations in this story- Cillian is special and so is Evelyne and there are constant twists and turns in the storyline that keep the reader's interest piqued.

The first half of the book presents the difficult journey that the pack and Evelyne make to get back to the Duskwood estate and reveal to Lady Duskwood the news of her husband. Along the way, the Ironwolf Pack is joined by several other packs in hopes of annihilating the Noskari threat. Once the Ironwolf Pack makes it back to the southern kingdom, more secrets are revealed.

This second book features further character development and the introduction of more romantic entanglements. Evelyne and Kaldrek are exceptionally suited and work well both in and out of bed!

If you are someone who is loves the intersection of wolves and witches in a dark woodsy setting, with a found family theme mixed in with a strong FMC and believable, mature romantic relationships, then this is the series for you.

I am so happy that I had the opportunity to read both books in this duology. A true delight that had me engaged and riveted.

I want to start off by saying that I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this duology as a whole.
I have loved the characters and worldbuilding throughout both books. I thought everything was very well thought out and it felt very real, so that definitely was good.

I also thought the story was fun. Without giving anything away, there were certain scenes that were very amusing and stress inducing. (which I like)

But there was just something about this story that I didn’t really connect with. There were quite a few parts within the story where I grew a bit bored and detached from what was happening.
It wasn’t like there was nothing going on at the time, because there was interesting stuff happening throughout the whole book. But it just felt like it just wasn’t IT, you know?

Some parts felt a little choppy. I would have liked to see more of some scenes. Certain scenes ended a bit too abruptly, and then I thought it would continue in the next chapter but in the next part time had already passed and we completely skipped over things. (At least, that was how it felt to me.)

But while I am kind of ranting about the things that bothered me, don’t mistake this for me saying that this book isn’t worth your time, because the characters and the worldbuilding were really worth it.
Overall I've had a good time and I think this could be a duology many people would enjoy.

It just wasn’t what I thought it could be, which is why I gave it (a positive) 3⭐️’s.

While this was still an enjoyable read I feel like it missed the mark a little, particularly the ending. This series should have been a trilogy rather than a duology. For the first 50% of the book there is only a very small amount of plot/character progression and a lot of the same - move location and get attacked by the Noskari. It picks up after this and we get to see more of the relationships between other characters which was great, but then the ending felt incredibly rushed. Everything happened in the last 10% of the book (with 6% just being the HEA and epilogue). I was disappointed the battle scene ended with fade to black, with no further details or explanations.

In saying that, it was still enjoyable to read! I loved the evolution of Evelyne as a wolf and the relationships that grew between Alaric and Heidara as well as Holden and… someone 😉 added more depth to the story!

A Sunwoven Ascent

I was SO excited to get the opportunity to review the second book in this duology as an ARC, especially because I absolutely loved the first book. But I’ll be honest… I wasn’t sure if the second could live up to it.

IT DID. And then some.

This duology is SO well done. It’s action-packed fantasy with romance, incredible character development, strong women standing alongside strong men, and a world that never makes women feel like they’re somehow less than.

It’s giving Throne of Glass meets Bridgerton meets Direbound wolves… and somehow, it all works BEAUTIFULLY together. 😂

Honestly, reading this felt like watching an action-packed fantasy series. There are so many amazing characters, so much development, and SO many moments that had me completely invested.

And can we talk about how I genuinely don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about this duology?! 👀

If you haven’t picked these books up yet, PLEASE add them to your TBR. You will not regret it.

This book had so many twist and turns, I was gripping my kindle eager to see what happened next and how this was all going to end. It is THAT captivating and well written. It has it all, romance, magic, wolves, witches, twists and turns and most importantly, a good story. I truly could not recommend a series more!

It has been an absolute pleasure to experience this series for the first time, to meet the characters, explore the world and uncover the secrets along with Evelyne. To me, this is the definition of a good duology.

It was so awesome being able to jump right into A Sunwoven Ascent following A Bloodveiled Descent. I loved Bloodveiled, but Sunwoven was the conclusion I needed and it did not disappoint.

Evelyne's newest journey & adventure as a shifter offers an incredible found family trope at its finest. There is always something beautiful about a wolf pack that just makes your heart hum with warmth.

The magic system is wound perfectly through the characters personalities all while keeping it easy to understand and not complicated. I would highly recommend this duology to anyone, new to romantasy readers as well as seasoned.

The world building was beautiful, offering a light and dark world that is so descriptive and seen with ease. You'll really feel the world around you, the nature, the tree, the magic, the wolves, the nobility.

It was a fulfilling ending and I am thoroughly satisfied and pleased!

Book 2 continues where book 1 finishes, and the magical world/ system continues. The author did a great job at keeping the magic system clear and consistent which helps to follow the story. I really enjoyed the world building and characters. There were witches, wolves, and the Noskari (a new magic creature). I really liked the darkness and the light concept with magic. I really enjoyed reading about the strong and fierce FMC, Evelyne. Not only is she a newly discovered shifter, but she turns out to be an alpha and I loved this for her. I enjoyed reading how strong she was and how she put up a fight on the “norms” or “standards” imposed on the women.
There were lots of moments filled with angst, not knowing what could happen or how the story would turn.

A Sunwoven Ascent picks up immediately after the significant battle in book one, only to make it very clear that was merely the beginning of something much bigger.

The shadow and sun weaver magic, wolf shifters, and hybrids caught with one foot in each world make this story so incredibly immersive. The world-building and character development are deeply rooted by this point, and I was emotionally attached to some while developing a visceral hatred for others.

I read this on my Kindle while knowing I’m going to need a trophy copy for my bookshelf. I could absolutely see myself rereading this series and I will be keeping an eye out for whatever Haley Opet writes next.

I can no longer deny that I have a thing for wolf shifters. At this rate, I should probably just accept it.

I really enjoyed this read! I actually preferred it so much more than the first book.

The side characters really stole the show for me, especially Holden he had me laughing so much throughout the book and definitely added some much needed fun.

I do wish we had gotten to delve a little deeper into some of the other characters and their stories. At times, I felt like things were a little rushed and could have used more development.

I also felt like Evelyn’s sister went through such a traumatic event, but it was almost glazed over. I expected it to have more of an impact on the story and her character, but it felt like things just continued on as though nothing had really happened.

Overall, though, I really enjoyed this one and definitely found myself more invested than I was in the first book!

I am so excited that I was able to immerse myself into this book. I absolutely loved A Bloodveiled Descent and could not wait to be back into this world.

I knew the battles from A Bloodveiled Descent were far from over. The different challenges the characters faced both as a group and individually, shaped them to be who they needed to be when the final battle was to take place.

I loved that there was so much growth in the characters. You see them adapt to the challenges around them and embrace who they are at their core. They grew stronger together. Some grew stronger as a pack, as family, as friends. Some grew together into relationships that was formed. Through the challenges, you are able to see them from the beginning then to come together to be true pairs for each other.

As sad as I am that the story is finished, I’m glad that I was able to experience it.

INCREDIBLE!! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Haley M. Opet has very quickly became one of my favourite authors.

I fell in love with book 1 and book 2 did not disappoint! It continued right from the end of book 1 which I loved, and was action packed from the start. There was so much going on, as well as quieter moments which were equally as enjoyable to read.

I really loved all the character and relationship building in this book and enjoyed getting to know some of the other characters more closely, watching them on their own journeys which were so different from one another but so intertwined. Everything just fit perfectly into place.

It was beautifully written and I really hope there will be so many more books from this author!

The conclusion to the Solwyn Duology was everything that I enjoyed from the first book but amplified. I enjoyed this one more than the first. The character development is deeper now that we get to see Evelyn truly become herself with Kaldrek at her side. The romance and spice is well written. I really enjoyed the detailed world building and the unique plot-line that Haley created. This was a great conclusion to the story. Entertaining and engaging read. I love wolf shifters and it is always fun to find an author that takes what readers know and make it something their own. If you enjoy darkness vs light, witches, wolf shifters, romance, spice and solid world building vibes, then you should read this series. I was very impatiently waiting for this, and it absolutely did not disappoint!

This one jumps right back into where we left off. I felt like it expanded on the characters really well and I loved the growth. Evelyn is still a complete badass and honestly might be one of my all time favorite FMCs.

I usually go into the second book of a series expecting not to like it as much as the first, but this one was the opposite. The pacing was great, the characters just as flawed and nuanced as I like them to be, and the story was gripping.

I do recommend this, and I'm very excited to see what future books we get from the author!

It was so good that this started right when the first book ended. It meant that all the care and focus I'd had was able to carry over and the worldbuilding was effortless. The journey covered so much familiar ground that we were able to stay with the characters more and explore those relationships.

I thought this was a great ending to the duology but the only thing that made it not 5 stars for me was that I felt the pacing was just a little slow. I didn't feel the same urgency as I did in book one but it was a satisfying final battle. I think it could have been maybe 100 pages shorter but it was a fun read and solid duology.

This journey back to a society left behind, looks different for everyone but through learning more about the Duskwood family as well as Kaldrek, Holden and Heidara… I noted endings aren’t always as they’re imagined. Sometimes, “you rise, adapt, and discover that the road ahead can still become something powerful, beautiful, and entirely your own.”

‘A Sunwoven Ascent’ is a gorgeous ending to the Solwyn Duology! I’m obsessed with this read just as much as I am with the first book ‘A Bloodveiled Descent’!

I’ve really enjoyed reading Evelyn's story and watching her build her confidence, believe in herself and become this powerhouse of a woman! The friendships are captivating in this book, love is left, right and centre and there is also a mixture of battles and journeys which kept me engaged throughout the read! The gothic regency aesthetic is perfect for spooky season!

If you are looking for a regency romance x fantasy with Wolfshifters then add this to your tbr!

I really enjoyed this series! I fell in love with the characters in book one and am so glad I got to see them grow and get their happily ever afters.
Evelyne is such a great FMC and is fierce and strong. I enjoyed when they all came back into her world of balls & dressing up.
It was action packed and really kept you wanting to keep reading to find out what would happen next.

This was a fantastic conclusion to the duology. I loved the regency feel, it was a different style than I am used to! The stakes were high the magic developed further and we get the bigger picture as we have more secrets and truths unfolding before us. It is hard to write this without spoiling key moments, as the characters build and develop and find strength within themselves. The bonds and the way that they face the odds was really satisfying.

What an amazing book! I had the opportunity to be an ARC reader. The author sent me part 1 and part 2, that way I had the whole story! The character development throughout the book was well written. Some plots you could see happening some time before, but personally I like that, that way you can feel the direction the story will be evolving into. I loved reading about Evelyne, Kaldrek and all the other (main) characters.

The vibe was a bit different this book and I think I preferred it as the stakes felt a bit higher and I felt more invested in the characters survival. It was interesting to see how the characters reacted to daily life in a world so unlike what they were used to.

Wow what a way to finish this series. It was action packed from the very beginning and there was not a moment of rest. The super of what was coming next kept me on the edge of my seat. I especially loved Aurelia’s story and how during the darkest times of the book the author was able to
Bring some humor and levity to the story. She ended the characters story beautifully and I loved it!

If I could give this book a 5,5, I would.
I loved book 1 and the story it told, the sequel went above and beyond what I was expecting.
As a duology, this is the final book, and let me tell you: the end was perfect. It didn't overstay its welcome, ending in a perfect moment of "i wish i had a little bit more" that lets me imagine the rest myself.
