Rebecca Hart has her life together — great job, great friends and ready to run the Boston Marathon. Her life turns in an instant when she's injured in the bombing.
Single dad and veterinarian, Adam Fielding, intends to remain a bachelor after being "abandoned" twice. Once by the love of his life and once by a second-best girlfriend.
When Rebecca arrives at Sea View House to recover, neither she not Adam is prepared to let the magic of the place affect them.
Will these two open their hearts and run toward a new finish line together?
Linda's emotional stories of contemporary romance have earned many industry awards through Romance Writers of America chapter contests. In 2011, Quarterback Daddy took first place in the Write touch Reader's contest while in 2010, Summer at the Lake did the same. Previously, she's garnered the Holt Medallion and The Award of Excellence among others. With laughter and tears, she touches the hearts of her readers by writing stories they'll remember long after the book is finished.
This year, Linda is publishing her first women's fiction novel. Family Interrupted will be available in the spring of 2013.
Her Long Walk Home by Linda Barrett is the first book of the contemporary romance Sea View House series. This first book of the Sea View House series is a fictional romance that features actual real life events having the heroine a victim of the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013. While part of a series this is a full romance story that can be read as a standalone if choosing to so so with the next in the series changing the lead characters.
Rebecca Hart has just gotten out of the hospital and rehab after months of treatment and therapy after losing her leg while running the Boston marathon when the bombings took place. Looking for a place to rest and relax during the next phase of her recovery Rebecca ends up at the Sea View House.
Once moving into her temporary home all Rebecca wants is to be left alone and not have to deal with the pitying stares she’s come to expect. However, what Rebecca didn’t expect was meeting her new neighbor Adam Fielding and his daughter and finding herself enjoying getting to know them and becoming a part of their lives.
I think the author did a wonderful job with Her Long Walk Home showing just how a victim of such a horrific event would be feeling and struggling to find their normal once again. Rebecca has a honest feel to her with a myriad of other emotions that you would expect from a victim and Adam also seemed to be portrayed well with his baggage from his past.
The one thing really keeping my rating to 3 1/2 stars is probably the old novella curse that I felt there were things left unsaid here and there that could have used more depth a longer title would bring. Overall though definitely not too bad for a free e-book and I believe it’s still available if wanting to give it a try.
Her Long Walk Home by Linda Barrett is the first book in the Sea View House series. Rebecca Har was happy with where her life was going she had a good job and wonderful friends and she was preparing to run in the Boston Marathon. But when Linda finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time her life is turned upside down. Linda must now try and come to terms with what has happened to her and somehow try to rebuild her life. This was a very enjoyable book and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I had high hopes for this book after so many good reviews, but it just didn't do anything for me. The story had promise. Rebecca Hart is a young woman whose life is upended after losing a leg at the Boston Marathon. She moves to Pilgrim Cove for the summer, into a special house called Sea View House. There is some sort of magic that happens to those who stay at this house, helped by a band of retired guys called the ROMEOs. Rebecca meets veterarian Adam Fielding and his young daughter Sara. Adam lost his wife to cancer five years ago, and his last girlfriend left him to marry a long-lost love come back to Pilgrim's cove, so he's done with romance. This book also contained lots of pets (Adam does Greyhound rescue and is a veterinarian) which is something else I love in books. But the writing style was strange and I just couldn't get into this book. I also didn't care for Rebecca's mother. Although there was a lot of promise in the premise, this book didn't deliver for me.
Becca had it all going for her: Athletic, sociable, a career in health care. It vanished in an instant when she was in the wrong place at the wrong moment. It had been two months since she had lost her left leg from the knee up, a victim of the Boston bombing. She moves to the Sea View house in the village of Pilgrim Cove, a ferry ride from Boston, intent on solitude and getting her life back. Little did she know that the quirky and lovable residents of the community would not leave her alone! Especially handsome veterinarian Adam, along with his precocious 10 year old Sara. A widower still grieving and smarting after a recent failed romance, he is nevertheless instantly attracted to the Becca. Sick and tired of being hailed as a "hero" and being the object of pity, she still tries to keep everyone at arm's length. Dr. Adam also rescues greyhounds and that seems to be an opening for Adam and Becca. Sara craves the attention Becca offers and Adam gives her the companionship she doesn't think she needs. There are some laugh-out-loud moments with adorable Sara as she has no social filter regarding her Daddy's budding romance! This reader dearly loves a good romance featuring heroes and heroines that are less then physically perfect. Adam treats Becca with admiration without pitying her or patronizing her. It is bad enough for a guy to suffer an amputation but devastating to a woman of Becca's caliber. The author has done extensive research on prosthetics and rehabbing from a limb loss. There is so much more to this story. Inspirational, humorous, romantic and full of surprises. Give it a "go!"
Surviving the Boston Marathon bombing should’ve been enough. It’s not even close. The real challenge is just beginning.
After being released from rehab after two long months, Becca is ready to begin the long journey to find her normal. She is fiercely independent and is determined not to rely on anyone. Her plan is to rediscover herself in Pilgrim Cove over the summer and return to Boston truly defining Boston Strong. Little does she know what awaits her in Pilgrim Cove and how it will change her life.
Adam and his young daughter, Sarah, came to Pilgrim Cove after the death of his wife, Eileen. He never expected to stay and make it his home. It was only supposed to be for the summer. Five years later, he can’t imagine living anywhere else. It was Pilgrim Cove that truly started his healing and its residents have been there for him ever since. Now, he’s determined to get the funding to open a rescue center for retired greyhounds.
What’s so unique about Pilgrim Cove? Well, besides the small town character, and characters, there are the ROMEOs. Can they work their “magic” one more time? An entertaining read that addresses the tragedy of the Boston Marathon bombing and its impact on individuals lives while still retaining a lighthearted quality.
This is my first novel by Linda Barrett. She is a very talented writer who builds believable and likeable characters. I'm looking forward to buying the next in this series.
Adam,Sara, Becca with Ginger Make Four!3.75***** Spoiler Alert
Rebecca Hart, hospital therapist/ former marathon runner, recouping from the Boston Marathon explosion, arrived in Promise Cove to gain her independence while grappling with her new self as an amputee. She is given SeaView House by Bart Quinn, an original ROMEO, to rent. There she met Sara, her neighbor, and her dad, Adam Fielding, DMV, who has a passion for retired greyhounds. Together they fall rapidly in love from a point of hatred and scorn in the local bar. Rebecca is welcomed into the town, helped Adam in his office on week days when Arlene left to care for her mother, then created the idea and organized the 5K Fund Raiser for his animal rescue center, and even donated a portion of her million dollars monetary windfall from the Boston Strong Fund to his unit, against his wishes. Yes, he proposed in under three months making third time a charm.
Interesting characters, especially the ROMEOs and the SeaView House romantic, match making connection, as they reminded me of the Feenan’s ‘The Haven House’ and the St.Claire’s ‘DogFather and DogMothers' series smooshed together. As usual the rate of falling in love by the two main protags was exponential and irrational especially on Adam's part as he is recovering from a broken affair. Sara is adorable and would someday make an awesome vet, Fielding and Daughter DVM! A quick, HEA read.

Is this a mistake? Becca knows that she needs to find a way to move forward with her life but she is finding it hard as she wants to be whole again. Becca was at the boston marathon and she lost one of her legs and sometimes she forgets that nothing will be the same again. So she is hoping that Sea View House will be the place to help but she isn't too sure about Bart Quinn as he says that she doesn't need to pay nothing and that the house is special. Will Becca allow the townfolk to welcome her and make her feel welcome? She just wants to be left alone but that changes when she meets Adam Fielding the local vet. Adam is taken with Becca as he knows that it must be really hard on her but he has to keep his mind on what is happening with the new centre that he wants to open. He can't afford to become distracted by her as he has to think of his daughter's needs as well. Becca knows that it is a bad idea to get involved with Adam and his daughter Sara but she just can't help falling for him but she knows that is can't be her new life. She wants to work at the hospital again and to feel alive. Adam knows that he can't keep Becca she needs to make up her own mind but he hopes that she will stay as they have something worth exploring. Will Becca be able to see her future before her and make the right choice? A good read.
Need to read a heartwarming sweet story? This is a good option. She was an athlete taking part in a marathon. She became disabled because two evil men sabotaged the games. They planted a bomb which killed and injured innocent athletes. I remember our horror at the time this real-life tragedy occurred. Just two months later this top athlete was released from rehab minus her left leg. She was still getting used to her prosthetic leg when she arrived at Pirate's Cove where a group of retired artisans delighted in helping out those going through a rough time. They rented out a big home overlooking the sea, adapting it to suit the needs of each consecutive tennant while they healed. Their involvement did not stop there. Calling themselves the ROMEOS they cheerfully masterminded relationships between deserving partners. This is part of a series which will be worth reading!!!
This book was such a touching story on so many levels. The concept of the tragedy of the victims of the Boston Marathon from a victim response was nicely portrayed. The storyline of the unfortunate need for no kill rescue centres for neglected animals in the world was something that was wound throughout the book as well making the reader aware of this need. The doubt, guilt, & uncertainty felt by Adam to open his heart to Rebecca to love again was touching. Something that I think every widowed parent must go through when considering a new relationship. The HEA, even though you know it's coming was a pleasure to read. Thank so much for a beautiful book, Linda.
What a Wonderful Book. I truly enjoyed reading this Book. Linda Barnett wrote a Wonderful Book that I had a hard time putting it down. A Story about A Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor, Greyhound Dogs Rescuing from Greyhound Racing, Raising Funds for an Animal Rescue Center & staying Positive & Strong without allowing people to influence their decisions. This Book is well written & without a drawn out Sex Scenes. Rebecca a Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor only wants to be alone to focus on her Rehab. Adam a DVM & Single Father a Wonderful Man who doesn't want to find Love after losing his Wife & a Failed relationship. Together they find ways to help each other.
Rebecca Hart was an active, Boston respiratory therapist at Mass General, until she lost part of her leg in the Boston Marathon bombing. Now, she's trying to recover. Pointed to Pilgrim Cove by one of her former professors, she is given the downstairs apartment at Sea View House - which has a reputation in town for healing. Becca doesn't intend to be sociable, but that's nearly impossible in the small beach town. Being near neighbors with widowed DVM Adam Fielding, his daughter, and his dogs changes things and love blooms. Sea View House works it's magic on yet another couple giving them a HEA.
Becca didn't run the Boston Marathon that day but she lost her leg in the bombing. Her cousin takes her to the beach community where Becca wishes to rent a house. Well she ends up renting Sea View house and it is offered to her free. Becca wants to keep to herself and be independent, and not constantly be reminded of her loss. Little does she realize she is still grieving, her job had been a physical one and she was an active person. She meets Adam and his daughter. Adam is a vet, a greyhound rescuer, and a widower. It is truly Her Long Walk Home as Becca finds herself again and she finds love. Linda Barrett's book in Sea View house series is a sweet story.
really enjoyed this book about Rebecca’s comeback from being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She has a hard road, but with persistence and love from friends and family anything is possible. I absolutely loved Adam. Single dad books are one of my favorites and this fit the bill perfectly. Sara, David’s ten-year-old daughter, is precious. Adam rescues retired greyhounds and then finds them their forever home. 😍 This book has all you could ask for and I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
This was a feel good book. Apparently this house on the water in Massachusetts helps heal its inhabitants. In this first entry in the series, the renter was injured during the bombing at the Boston Marathon. Trying to get her physical as well as her mental self back into shape, Rebecca has great hopes for recovery. Along the way she meets widower and local vet Adam and his daughter Sara. Love blooms! Linda Barrett knows the area and can write a really lovely story.
This was a terrific book about a woman who lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombing. She rents a cottage at Sea View and does her best to keep people away. She didn’t need their meddling or pity.Until she meets the town vet and his daughter. The vet has a passion for greyhounds and his daughter a passion for people in need. This was a very good, very easy read, not counting the horrible account of that terrible Boston marathon. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did,so hope you’ll read it as well and like it as much as I did.
This moving story takes the tragedy of the Boston Marathon terror attack into the future in the life of a fictional victim. The news as I write is filled with stories of living people whose lives are based on whining about problems that are as serious as hangnails in comparison to the kinds of true issues that others rise above. Let this book be an example that after the initial event, victimhood is in the mind, and that it is possible for anyone to rise above victim status.
This was an OK book but lost me early on when the vet referred to his female office assistant and vet techs as his "office wives." I had hoped to never see this offensive term again and I certainly didn't expect to see it in a contemporary novel. I almost DNFd the first time the term was used. That underlying disgust was probably a factor in my not feeling any involvement in the characters or the story line as the plot moved on. Note to self: Next time an author uses an offensive term as casual narrative exposition, DNF and move on.
This is a fictional take on real life event Rebecca is the main character and she has just been released from rehab after many surgeries from losing her leg. She was a spectator at the 2013 Boston Marathon when the bombings happened. She moves to Sea View House in Pilgrims Cove MA just a ferry ride from Boston but she goes there thinking she will find peace and solitude. Boy is she wrong. I really enjoyed reading this book, just thought the love storyline was a little slow. Can be read as a standalone HEA
This is a quick read and a heartwarming story. Rebecca arrives in Pilgrim Cove to be in a quiet area. As she adjusts to her 'new normal' and accepts her injury at the Marathon, she meets Adam and they have a hot romance and marry there. Pilgrim Cove is a small town along the shore. All the residents (adults and children) know each other get along well. While this story seems idealistic, Linda Barrett writes about these residents and their relationships in a charming manner, focusing on the good that people offer. This story is about relationships, friendships, love, new challenges and progres, help, hope and harmony.
Becca came to the Sea View House to recover and rehab after the Boston Marathon bombing. Adam lived at the Sea View House with his 10 year old daughter after losing his wife. Both are trying to heal. They are both brought closer together when thoughts of a Greyhound Rescue begin with fundraisers and planning. With the help of the ROMEOs, everything falls into place. Another great book by Linda Barrett. Just love her books!
I received this ebook free thanks to Amazon Prime. My honest opinion is that I chose well. This was a sweet story dealing with real life tragedies and new beginnings. I loved the information on retired greyhounds. There was one non-detailed bedroom scene with kissing in other parts of the book. I enjoyed this book and hope to read the others in the series. The town draws you in and you want to know more.
Loving the first book in the Seaview House series, which continues the pilgrims Cove books. The magic is still there, the characters are now old friends too. I love that each book looks at different problems different events that are happening such as breast cancer, Dwi at prom and heartbreak from it,divorce, the Boston Marathon bombing. Love love these books. Looking forward to the next book.
A Boston marathon bombing victim just wants peace and quiet to rehab and learn to walk again.
Living in a special house in a small coastal town means everyone knows who you are and what you're doing. And everyone in this town opens their arms and lives to involve this young lady, including a handsome vet and his daughter. I love this authors stories, but I wish she'd learn to leave a space after italicized words!
Rebecca had lost part of her leg in the Boston Marathon bombing. She may have lost part of her leg but she did not lose her determination to once again run a marathon. Sea View House was just the place for her to stay on track. As it turned out, Adam Felding her single dad neighbor, was just the man to balance her out. Stubborn Rebecca and steady Adam completed each others lives. And little Sara gained a stepmom
Her Long Walk Home is the firddt nook I have read by Linda Barrett. I loved it from the start. Becca who lost a leg at the Boston Marathon bombing needed s place to go and heal. The entire town accepted her and she learned to trust and love again. My husband has a prosthesis so I could really relate to this book! I will be reading more of Linda's books.
I really enjoyed and 💘 loved this short book. Rebecca, the heroine is a victim of the Boston Marathon bombings. She lost her leg and is on the mend. Adam, a veterinarian, and a single parent of a 10 year old girl 👧, Sara. They love greyhounds I loved all the characters in the book especially the ROMEOs! Read it for yourself.
When I started reading this book, I was kind of iffy. I decided to read a little bit more. And I'm glad I did... I couldn't believe someone wrote about the marathon bombing in a story. As I rid on, the story got better and I couldn't put it down.. I stayed up to finish the last 2 pages. But i am greedy, I want more on their story, please. : I am hoping I can find out more of your book an& read them soon.
Wanted a light easy read to escape the noise of putting on the tv. Found it in this book. Nice characterisations, in what sounds an idyllic setting. Not too sugary, nicely balanced. Yes , there is romance and you know it's going to end up happy ever after, but we are all allowed to escape from time to time and this is a perfect way to do it so if you want to escape too then this book is a good way to do it.
It's a pleasant story but I wish we had seen more in her challenges with her new norm physically and professionally. By dusting over her being a person with a disability and coming across as though getting married solved her problems, it belittles the struggles women with disabilities face.
Ms. Barrett writes well but I would suggest talking to someone with a disability before utilizing a disabled person as a protagonist. Once she can address that I think her books would be quite lovely.
