A lover like no other

The last thing Harold Wyatt, Earl of Hartley, needs is a beguiling stranger dropping in, claiming she's a fairy. As he hides her away from prying eyes, Harry's last hope to save his home hinges on believing the unbelievable.

The middle daughter of Mab, queen of the fairy realm, Sorcha has been sent to retrieve the Dearann Stone, which will restore peace to her divided kingdom. But her dangerous attraction to the handsome nonbeliever with the fairy-green eyes puts her mission at risk. Failure means casting her people into everlasting winter, but the penalty for yielding her heart to a human is harsher still.

A sweet and whimsical story. Harry does not believe in fairytales. He is firmly rooted in all the earthly responsibilities of his title. Sorcha is a fairy princess who doesn’t believe she is worthy of being queen. The story continues the series as the queen Mab is determined to shed her reign. The characters are delightful and otherworldly as human and fairy battle for dominance. Passion and love rule as they are unable to resist the lure of destiny.

I have never read a faery romance before, fantasy and science-fiction books that included faeries, yes, but not one specifically around a romance. I was intrigued by the description of Daughter of Light by Eileen Dreyer. I was intrigued by the prologue and my interest was held throughout the entire book. It was a story about love but also about redemption, longing, family and learning about needs and wants.

Sorcha, daughter of Mab Queen of Fairies is on a quest to retrieve a long-lost stone to help save her people, her land based on an action that she took part in. She is sent to a foreign, cold land, Yorkshire, England to find the stone. Sorcha doesn’t believe she has the ability or the strength to be able to complete her quest, but she is still going to do her best. The first person she meets is Harry Wyatt, Earl of Hartley whose family has a faery history and a history to the stone, which they call a diamond. Harry doesn’t believe the Sorcha is a faery, just another intruder trying to ferret out the diamond and the story.

As Sorcha and Harry meet, it is apparent to Sorcha that he is of faery blood and that he is fighting and denying it to due to his obligation to his family. Harry is also engaged and is desperately trying to fight his attraction to Sorcha, in part because of that and a fear that he will hurt her based on his recent dreams. I really loved the push me pull me dynamic between the two main characters, but also their interaction with Harry’s family. I loved his Gran and her steadfast belief in their faery history, her nurse, Mary but I loved his nieces Bea and Lilly, the true light and his nephew Theo. His cousin Phyl was wonderful too. And the horses, what a lovely addition to the story.
This story is about family, finding out who you are and your strengths, letting others in and letting them help you in addition to being a love story. I really don’t want to give away any spoilers but there is angst, there is conflict, there is a battle and there is a happily ever after. I was excited to find out this is part of a trilogy and can’t wait to go back to read the first and last book in the series. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend the book!

I received an ARC of the Daughter of Light by Eileen Dreyer from Booksprout and voluntarily read the book.

Every once in a while I come across a book where I hesitate to write my review because then it means I'm well and truly done with it. I finished Daughter of Light a few days ago and just didn't want to let it go. I loved it that much.

The story of Sorcha and Harry is well-crafted and touched my heart in so many ways. I definitely recommend reading the first book, Daughter of Lore, before starting this one to truly appreciate Sorcha's world. This story stands well on its own, but do yourself a favor and read them in order.

As for me. I'll be here, trying not to pace, waiting for book three.

Well, daerah Yorkshire nya Inggris gitu lho... emang bukan daerahnya Manchester sih, hehe. Tapi tetep aja... kayanya malah lebih cantik daerah pedesaan Yorkshire deh... Secara, Manchester dan sekitarnya kan daerah industri...

Anyway, back to the story...

I'm working on research about romance novels, and so far this book doesn't fit the typical formula, except that you know it's going to end happily for the couples. The key difference between this and others I've read so far is that usually to be classed as a romance, the romantic relationship that develops between the two main characters has to be unquestionably the primary storyline. This book, though, has a plot that competes with the romantic storyline.

Update: Yes, I'm still not sure whether to actually class it as a romance or not. The plot competes with the development of the couple's relationship, and though she initially lives with him, they ultimately live in her world, which is very non-traditional in romances.

It does have the love/hate relationship, but it doesn't tease with sex the way others do.

In general, the writing is very annoying. The author tries to give the faerie characters an accent, but writing accents is problematic for the best of writers, and Korbel's characters end up reading like douchebags.

Harold - 8th earl of something... great grandson of a mortal and a faery... Sorcha - daughter of faery queen Mab... with a gift of teaching and hearing the stones (the gifts)...

Sorcha is sent to the mortal world to retrieve the stone that harold's great grandfather brought with him... and she finds a man who ruthlessly denies any faery sense, desparately trying to reestablish his home and wealth for his descendents... whose parents and grandparents tried to recreate faery with an enclosed garden and painted murals in the great halls...

and they love... and he explains he must stay in this world to protect his family... and they fight the bad faery who wants the stone, and they win... and her mother provides the wealth his family needs, so that he can live where he is free and happy, and with Sorcha - raising horses, loving his children, and loving Sorcha...

Very touching scenes with his neice, Lily, with Down Syndrome - a child honored and loved by the faery for their joy - and the horse that is knighted to protect her, etc. hmmmm

so far lumayan hit....tapi kadang gak suka aja ama sorcha yang kelewat lugu jadi kesannya oon banget....

rada membingunkan !!

When i saw that they now have a "Paranormal" theme to the romance novels, i grabbed this one for a test-drive.

Blech.

It was almost like a Laurell K. Hamilton wannabe.

My only question is, for being a Romance novel- where was the smut? i thought these books were written to get women all tingly...

The starting was boring and I stopped reading it. Picked it after a few days later and forced myself to continue, but, boy, was I glad! The story picked up later and kept me interested till the end. This is my first time reading a fairy story and I enjoyed it.

Started out kinda slow...but definitely got more intense as the story progressed. The side story of little Lilly, a "cherished one" was beautifully written.
