"Sherry Isaacs leaves town with her boyfriend, Pike Daniels, then both suddenly vanish. Her younger sister, Kylie, turns to Ace Johnson to find her. But when Ace discovers Pike is wanted for two unrelated crimes, the simple missing-person case twists into something far more complicated and dangerous. Faced with these challenges, can Ace solve the crimes and reunite the sisters before Christmas? Missing delivers the warm, classic whodunit style fans of the series love while closing the series in a way sure to satisfy Ace Johnson fans."
This book surprised me with how emotional it became beneath the mystery. I expected another solid whodunit, but I found myself just as invested in Kylie as I was in Ace. Her refusal to give up on her sister made the stakes feel genuine from the opening chapters.
One scene that stayed with me was when Ace realizes Pike isn't simply a missing boyfriend but someone tied to multiple crimes. From that point, the investigation takes on a darker edge while still keeping the comforting feel that defines this series.
What I admire most about Gary W. Bryant's writing is that every clue serves the characters as much as the plot. The approaching Christmas adds warmth without overpowering the suspense, and the ending gives readers both answers and emotional closure. It felt like saying goodbye to old friends, which is exactly what I want from the final book in a series.
