How well do you know the person you married?
You share a bed. A home. A life. But do you know what they’re truly capable of?

I never thought I’d be a widow at twenty-six. They haven’t even dredged him out of the ocean yet, but the neighbors still drop by with casseroles and sympathy cards. They want me to plan a funeral when I don’t even have a body. So I play the part and smile politely, pretending I’m grateful for their pity.

But I knew my husband. He’d been a fisherman his entire life and knew the sea too well to take chances during a storm. My mother-in-law tells me to move on, but I just can’t do that. And when I discover a key to a storage unit I never knew existed, I uncover records linking him to five women who vanished over the last decade.

Now I’m investigating on my own, digging into this town, into everything he left behind. The closer I get to the truth, the more dangerous it becomes. I know someone is watching me, and everyone in Blackwater Bay is hiding something. They think I’ll let it go—I won’t.

Everyone says the tide took my husband.
Maybe the tide will come for me next.

Tides That Lie is one of those thrillers where it’s best to go in knowing as little as possible, so I’m going to keep this fairly vague because I don’t want to spoil any of the twists.

The story follows Anna after the death of her husband, Tom, and from there it takes you on a journey that constantly keeps you guessing. Every time I thought I’d worked out where the story was heading, it pulled the rug out from under me and went in a completely different direction. I genuinely couldn’t predict the ending, which is always a huge plus for me when it comes to thrillers.

Anna was easily my favourite part of the book. She’s such an interesting character because you never feel like you completely know her. There’s an ambiguity about her and her past that gives her a real edge, and I have a feeling that’s going to continue into the next book. She’s morally grey in places, which I always enjoy, but she’s also incredibly determined, strong and, importantly, fallible. Watching her navigate everything that happens made for a really compelling read.

I also really enjoyed Bradley Lyman’s writing style. He plants little Easter eggs throughout the story that don’t seem significant at first, but later click into place in a really satisfying way. The pacing was excellent throughout, but especially towards the end. I absolutely raced through the final chapters because I had to know what was going to happen next, which is exactly what I want from a thriller.

The supporting cast deserves a mention too. I liked that Anna actually had friends and family around her, rather than being completely isolated, which can sometimes happen in this genre. Those relationships made the story feel much more grounded and believable. I also loved the small town setting. Being from a small town myself, I always find those settings really immersive, and Bradley gives you just enough detail that you can picture both the town and all of the characters so clearly.

Overall, this was just a really solid thriller. It’s well written, well paced, full of twists and turns, and packed with interesting characters. It kept me guessing right until the end, and I never once felt like I knew where it was going. If you’re a thriller fan who enjoys a fast paced, character driven mystery with plenty of surprises, I’d definitely recommend giving Tides That Lie a go. I’m really looking forward to seeing where Anna’s story goes in the next book.

This book. This fucking book.

I was glued, I was gripped, I was invested.

For a debut book this is pretty awesome and i’m sat here like can I have book 2 please??

This story follows Anna after her husband goes missing at sea and is presumed dead.
But Anna doesn’t quite believe it was an accident. She know’s her husband is experienced at sea!

From there onwards we have missing girls, mysteries, easter eggs and red herrings.

I loved Annas character. She felt strong, determined and most definitely has an edge about her.

What I also loved was Bradleys writing style and his attention to detail. I loved the small town setting and I could really envision myself walking around there.

But honestly what a vibe this thriller was as a whole. I was pretty adamant at one point I was going to have to take a trip to hobbycraft to set up my own evidence board because I felt that involved… and confused at times.

If you’re a thriller lover AND you want a brand new indie author to support, make sure this is on your tbr. It’s a must.

4.5 stars!

Thank you to Bradley Lyman for a copy of the audio of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
The story follows Anna, whose husband goes missing. When she learns that he has died in an accident, she begins to question whether there might be more to the story. As the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that Anna isn’t exactly who she appears to be and neither are the people around her.
The deeper we get into the story, the more shocking details we uncover about Anna and those closest to her. Who is telling the truth? What is everyone hiding? The twists kept me guessing, and I couldn’t wait to see how everything would come together.
I loved the dramatic tension, the juicy details, and the way each revelation made me question what I thought I knew. The ending was one I never saw coming, and I truly didn’t want to put this down until I finished.
This was an amazing debut, and I can’t wait to read what Bradley Lyman comes up with next!

From the second my jaw dropped in the first chapter, I knew this was the type of thriller I'd been craving.

The plot is fantastic. It's not over complicated enough to be confusingly overwhelming, but is complicated enough to leave you trying to piece everything together chapter by chapter.

With an unreliable narrator and eerie characters, I really didn't know who I could trust. And thats what I loved about it. While I did guess a couple of the twists, it still kept me on the edge of my seat and didn't feel too predictable.

The short chapters were perfection. The suspense? Fantastic.

For a debut novel, this is such a good read and I'll definitely be recommending it!

This book was just fine for me. I went into it blind but there wasn’t anything about the book that really stood out. The beginning was really slow and it did get better toward the end.

The writing was good and so was the narration, but the story just didn’t hit for me. I felt like it was trying to introduce too many things to throw you off the scent of who done it to the point where I really didn’t care who did it. I didn’t connect with the FMC at all and didn’t understand some the decisions that she made that just felt off.

I was gifted the audiobook to read for an honest review and I appreciate that this is the authors debut novel.

It was very fast paced which was nice. Overall, I didn’t dislike the book, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it either.

A fast-paced, small-town, who-done-it style thriller that will keep you guessing until the end.

This is a strong debut and there’s a lot to like! As someone that reads a ton of thrillers, I anticipated several of the twists. A few aspects of the story felt familiar, but that didn’t necessarily detract from my experience.

Overall, it’s a fun time and I think new thriller reads or die hard fans of the genre will eat this up.

Tides That Lie is a phenomenal debut from Bradley Lyman. I am a huge fan of thrillers and this book did not disappoint. It kept me guessing what in the world was next from the very beginning to the very last page. I could not get enough of it and I found every spare moment to read more.

The book is well-written and the characters are interesting. And let me tell you, there are twists, turns and surprises galore. There’s no way this book doesn’t become a Netflix series or theater movie!

I was so so lucky to receive this arc from the author Bradley Lyman. (And by lucky I mean I may have begged due to severe fomo. But we move 👀)

Freida McFadden beware there’s a new thriller writer coming for the crown! I finished this one in just over a day. And sheesh! It had me on my toes right from the start.

We open with Anna whose husband is missing/presumed dead. Then there are the missing girls. Numerous mysteries surrounding Anna herself. And a ton of red herrings.

It was fast paced and frustrating but in the best way. Almost had to get my evidence board out and start making notes because EVERYONE was suspicious! If you like John Mars or Freida McFadden books I’d give this one ago.

Tides That Lie follows Anna after her husband is found dead at sea following a storm that damaged his boat. Something doesn't feel right. Her husband knew the sea extremely well, and Anna can't understand why he would have gone out knowing a storm was coming. As she starts looking for answers, she quickly realises that people don't seem to want to answer her questions, and asking too many of them might even put her own life in danger.

Unfortunately, this book wasn't really for me.

My biggest problem was Anna. She is under 30, but her behaviour often made her feel much older. She was constantly scared, overthinking everything and sometimes seemed afraid of her own shadow. She was also incredibly passive, didn't properly deal with things and often failed to connect things that seemed to be right in front of her. As the main character, she honestly irritated me more and more as the story progressed.

Some of Anna's thoughts and decisions genuinely left me speechless, particularly when it came to how little she seemed to know about her own husband. I can't go into more detail without giving away a major part of the story. I completely understand that grief can make someone blind to things that might otherwise seem obvious, but there were moments when I really struggled to understand how she didn't notice certain things or put them together.

I also found the beginning quite slow and repetitive, particularly as Anna went through the same emotions and thoughts several times. We meet quite a lot of characters along the way, although many of them do become important later in the story.

The second half worked much better for me. The tension increased and I became much more interested in what was happening. Even though I had worked out quite early where the story was heading and what the truth was likely to be, the author still managed to keep me reading until the end.

I think part of my problem may simply be that I've read so many thrillers that I found the story quite predictable, and none of the twists or reveals really surprised me. That doesn't mean another reader will have the same experience, especially someone who doesn't read as many thrillers.

Although Tides That Lie wasn't the right book for me, the second half showed me much more of what Bradley Lyman can do.

Thank you very much to Bradley Lyman for choosing me as an ARC reader. This review reflects my honest opinion.

With my reviews there are no spoilers,so I will keep the review as how the story works as a whole, and how well the story works.
I really enjoyed this story from Bradley Lyman,it is a very good thriller story full of suspense and menace, and with the added touch of betrayal, which makes the story so good in all departments you would like from a thriller.
All the characters, including the main character are so very well written, they portray power, strength, fear, indecision, everything that makes a thriller really sing in this type of story.
The story itself is well paced and never gets confusing as you follow the story through, there are alot of betrayals in the story, but you never lose your way or lose focus where you are as it unfolds around you.
I have one small criticism, and it is small, through the book you are constantly reminded whether the main character is suffering from paranoia,or are they going mad.The first couple of times it's mentioned you tend to ignore, but after constantly being told the same thing it does become a distraction and annoyance for the story, you don't need this reminded as the story itself tells you all you need to know.
Overall this is a very good debut book,it's a great thriller that keeps you on your toes to the conclusion of the story.

4.5⭐️ I was lucky enough to get this book as an arc, when it hit my emails I was so excited and felt beyond lucky to have been chosen! This book had me hooked from the beginning. It took me a minute to get aquatinted with the characters and to understand who was who because there was quite a few, but then you soon find out they all have a part to play in the story. How is the book a debut novel I will never know because it was amazing, the writing was incredible and I was very much drawn in at every moment within this book. The way it wrapped up at the end and how everything came to light had me at the edge of my seat I could not put it down.

If you’re looking for a thriller that will keep you on your toes, question every single character, having you wonder what could possibly happen next than you need to pick this book up!

Tides That Lie is one of those books that you get drawn into and find hard to put down.
Anna has learned that her husband has been discovered dead. The police suggest there’s nothing suspicious about the circumstances, but as a fisherman the last thing Tom would do is go out on his boat in a storm. Anna believes there’s more to it, and it is has something to do with the vague recollections she has of that evening. But Anna is also hiding the fact that she was being abused by her husband and that she’d been having an affair with his identical twin brother.
From the outset it’s hard to work out what to make of Anna. Her bullish determination to dig into something she’s been advised to leave is admirable, if dangerous. For reasons she can’t explain she’s digging into the mysterious disappearances of young women in the area. Someone seems to be following her, but nobody takes her concerns seriously.
Plenty of twists and thrills here. One best to read without knowing too much. Some of the reveals make perfect sense once you get them, but the book left me with an unsettled feeling as to how corruption can maintain some awful situations.

I was lucky enough to receive the ARC from the author, my first ever, and let me tell you IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

I am a huge thriller fan and this book had my heart racing! Some thrillers can be predictable, but I couldn’t predict that ending. I really love Bradley’s writing style, captivates you really quickly and keeps you wanting more and more. There isn’t a single negative thing I can say about this book. *chefs kiss*

I had to force myself to stop reading during my Bahamas vacation because it was that good and I wasn’t interested in my vacation lol!

I do not want to give much away, I think this is really great to go into not knowing anything so the feelings, twists and shock are real and genuine. The only thing I will give away- I cannot wait until early 2027 now. ;)

A fantastic debut! 👏🏻

This was a fast-paced thriller, with each chapter dropping new pieces of information as we delved deeper into the mystery. The suspense builds steadily, and we soon begin to realise that everyone is not quite as they seem. There are secrets everywhere, along with a constant feeling of unease as Anna discovers she is being watched.

I did have my suspicions about a few things, and although I guessed part of the twists, that didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book.

I’m pleased there’s a part two, as I’m keen to find out more about Anna’s background and her nightmares, which I believe will be explored in the next instalment!

Thank you @bradleylyman_ for the advanced copy. This book is out now!

Book Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tides That Lie by Bradley Lyman

Twins
Trafficking
Deceit

What a fabulous twisty thriller read. This book is fast paced and the plot will keep you guessing all the way to the end.

Based in a small town, we follow Anna who has just lost her husband Tom in a fishing boat accident during a storm. He’s been a fisherman his whole life and Anna is determined to find out what really happened.

She uncovers a storage locker which has snippets of the local girls who keep going missing. Why would Tom have those hidden in a storage locker? Was he involved. She’s determined to find out.

It’s a gripping read which I couldn’t put down.

I’m looking forward to the next book and learning more about Anna.

It’s a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!!

I won a Kindle version of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.
How do you mourn your abusive, missing, and presumed dead husband when you have been having an affair with his identical twin brother? Especially when you had finally decided to end your marriage?
Anna’s husband Tom, an experienced fisherman, went out in his boat out as a storm was approaching. Tom’s body and wrecked boat are later found and Anna doesn’t know why Tom would have gone out during a storm. Other people tell her that it was an accident, no need to look deeper.
As Anna looks into Tom’s death she finds links to girls missing from Blackwater Bay and doesn’t know who she can trust with the information.
Quotes I liked:
“Mom died from cancer just over three years ago…Saying it out loud felt like pressing on a bruise I’d learned not to touch.”
“All the girls wanted the same thing, just enough hope to believe someone when they said, ‘I can help you leave.’”

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to read this book early, thank you Bradley.
The first half of the book did seem a little all over the place and did not have the best character development for some characters that ended up being pretty important in the second half. With that being said, the story was really intriguing and had a great ending. For this to be a debut novel, it was done well and I will absolutely read the sequel. (📖)

Thank you to the author for sending me the audiobook in return for an honest review.. 🎧

3.5 stars 🌟

Firstly, I will say that the last hour of the book was very good. I enjoyed how everything came together and listened to it in one sitting (or laying in bed.) I did guess the big twist after the first chapter, though, and I was right, so it didn’t shock me at the end. As soon as I knew twins were involved, I knew exactly what that was going to lead to lol!

The majority of the book for me did seem slightly jumbled and hard to follow at times. I do think it boils down to personal preference, though. Personally, I don’t like too many characters because I struggle to remember who is who etc, but some people may like that if they have a better memory.

I think it could’ve been more streamlined and focused on the core storyline rather than teetering off into other directions.

All in all, it was an enjoyable listening experience and I look forward to another book from this author. 😊

Spoilers....

I totally called that Mark was Tom from the jump. But the trafficking, jewelry, it all was QUITE a ride. I fully thought Jake was in on it, too. Glad to see he wasn't though! Books 2 and 3 are going to be crazyyyyy, if this is any indication! #ARC

This was an interesting read, I always love a small town with secrets. The problem was that I found the book very predictable. Maybe it's because I read so many that the second I read that twins are involved I can predict the outcome. I think the author did a good job creating the feeling that the MC was losing her mind and that the entire town has a lot to hide. I just felt there were a lot of overused thriller tropes. However, I am looking forward to the second book in the series - I kind of figured that the author would set something up like that at the end, based on some clues earlier in the book. I think that second one has the potential to be more unique. I would also like to read a third book featuring Jake because there are definitely some hidden secrets in his past too. Overall, I think this book sets the scene for future books that could become a fun series, but this first one was a bit too predictable. Still a fun read though, especially the last 30%. But also, who is Eileen to the MC? lol 3.5⭐️

Firstly, thank you to Bradley for providing me with an ARC copy of this book.

This is a solid debut and an equally solid start to what promises to be an intriguing series. The eerie imagery and untrustworthy characters create an unsettling atmosphere, making it difficult to know who to believe. It’s written in a way that makes you feel as though you’re inside Ana’s head as she tries to uncover the secrets lurking beneath Black Water Bay.

The psychological elements are driven by the short, punchy chapters, the steadily building tension and the creepy imagery, all of which kept me engaged throughout.

The only thing that stopped this from being a five-star read for me was that I felt the psychological impact could have been amplified. However, that’s purely a matter of personal preference. I would still 100% recommend this book and I’m excited for the next instalment.

Currently reading Tides That Lie by Bradley Lyman, and I feel like I HAVE to write this review before I finish it.

First: go into this book knowing as little as possible. Seriously. Don’t Google it. Don’t try to figure it out beforehand. Just let the story take you for a ride.

I’m a little over halfway through, and I STILL have absolutely no idea who did it. 😂 Every time I think I’ve finally pieced things together and narrowed down what’s happening, the story takes a completely different direction.

The pacing is fantastic. It moves quickly, but never feels rushed, and the details Lyman weaves into each chapter are so intriguing. You’re constantly given another little piece of the puzzle, and you think, “Ohhh, I know exactly where this goes!” only to realize three chapters later that you put that piece in the completely wrong spot. 😂

And somehow, instead of being frustrating, it makes me even more determined to figure it out.

I’m genuinely hooked. The story has kept me entertained, curious, and constantly questioning my own theories. I have no idea where this is going, and at this point, I’m just along for the ride.

This is one of my first reads getting back into the mystery/thriller genre, and it’s also my first ARC through NetGalley. I honestly couldn’t be happier that Tides That Lie was the book that kicked things off for me.

I’m only halfway through, but I already feel comfortable saying this is a must-read for mystery/thriller fans. It has been such a fun, twisty, entertaining read—and I cannot wait to see if I’m EVER going to figure out who did it. 😂

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC. This review reflects my honest thoughts while reading.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FINAL UPDATE — I FINISHED IT!

Okay, I have officially finished Tides That Lie by Bradley Lyman, and I can confidently say this is a 5-star read for me! ⭐️

Out of ALL the twists and turns, I can say I kind of guessed one thing… but honestly, it was probably the most obvious possibility, and even then, I didn’t get all the details right or understand what it actually meant. 😂 So I’m counting that as a win-ish.

The way all the stories and details intertwine in this book is so much bigger than I ever could have imagined. Just when you think you have everything figured out, you realize there is SO much more happening underneath the surface.

And once again: PLEASE go into this book knowing as little as possible. The less you know, the better. Let the twists happen naturally, make your theories, be wrong about them, and enjoy the ride.

This was such an entertaining, fast-paced mystery/thriller, and I’m so glad it was one of my first reads getting back into the genre AND my first ARC through NetGalley. It absolutely did not disappoint.

5 stars from me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m officially hooked, and I’m already looking forward to Book 2 coming early next year! 👀📚

Thank you to NetGalley and Bradley Lyman for the opportunity to read this ARC. This review reflects my honest thoughts.

🤯🤯 MIND BLOWN

😁 I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of the upcoming DEBUT release, Tides That Lie, By Bradley Lyman and all I can say is... WOW!! 👏 Thank you SO much for the sneak peek, I ABSOLUTELY enjoyed it!!

😲 I read around 100 psychological thrillers a year, so when I say this didn't read like a debut novel, I truly mean it 💯. I never would have guessed this was Bradley Lyman's first book! 🤯

👍 This book had me from the VERY beginning! One of my biggest struggles is having to wait forever for something to happen in a book, BUT, not here! It starts with a problem IMMEDIATELY and never lets go!!! I also loved that I felt a connection with the characters, that is important to me! This is also not a book that spends TONS of time describing scenery, houses, vehicles, people's appearance etc, Bradley will describe things quickly giving us the information we need and then move on to the important stuff that keeps your attention! That is also very important to me in a book!

The best way I can describe it is... I was happily confused. 🤣 Every time I thought I had something figured out, another piece of the puzzle made me completely rethink my theory. I NEVER felt lost... And the happy confusion definitely made me want to keep going!

I was reading this book every chance I got... between jobs, before bed, and anytime I had a few free minutes. I even lost sleep because I kept telling myself, "Just one more chapter!" 😂 Yep, One night I literally slept for 4 hours and had to get up at 3:00 a.m. to go to work 🤣

🤔 The biggest compliment I can give this book?

* When I had about 20% left, I actually wished it was available on Audible because I would've spent an Audible credit in a heartbeat just so I could keep going!

👀 If you love books that are...

🤯 Mind-bending

🔥 Gripping

🧠 Theory-shattering

🧩 Puzzle-filled

😱 Unpredictable

❤️ Character-driven

📖 Impossible to put down

😴 Sleep-stealing

...then add Tides That Lie to your TBR! It comes out August 31, 2026 so be sure to SAVE THE DATE!! 🗓️

👏 I absolutely loved it and can't wait to see what Bradley Lyman writes next. If this is what a debut novel looks like... I have a feeling we're going to be hearing his name for a long time.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🥰 On top of how incredible the book was, he is such a nice, thoughtful, grateful, humble person!! Thanks again for letting me read this!

I received an advanced reader copy of this book.

A fast‑paced, eerie small‑town thriller with atmosphere you can feel in your bones

Bradley Lyman’s debut delivers exactly what you want from a coastal thriller: tension that creeps in like fog, a town full of secrets, and a protagonist whose grief sharpens into determination. From the opening pages, you’re dropped straight into Blackwater Bay — a place that feels lived‑in, claustrophobic, and deeply unsettled. The discomfort is immediate, and Lyman sustains it beautifully.

A premise that hooks you instantly

The widow-at-twenty-six setup is already chilling, but the discovery of the storage unit key is where the book truly grips you. The mystery surrounding Anna’s husband is layered, believable, and never veers into melodrama. You’re constantly questioning everyone. Anna, her husband, her mother‑in‑law, the neighbours and that uncertainty is one of the book’s greatest strengths.

Unreliable… or just surrounded by liars?

Lyman plays with perception in a way that feels natural rather than gimmicky. You start doubting Anna, then doubting your doubts. The town’s collective dishonesty creates a brilliant sense of unease without ever feeling forced.

Friendships that feel real

Anna’s friendships are a standout. They’re grounded, supportive, and written with a sincerity that’s rare in thrillers. They give the story emotional weight and balance out the darker elements of the plot.

Twists that make sense

I suspected the twist around the 55% mark, but that didn’t ruin anything. Instead, it made the reading experience more satisfying. Lyman avoids the “throw in five random twists and hope for the best” trap. Every reveal feels earned, logical, and connected to the world he’s built.

A conclusion that lands — and hints at more

The ending ties the threads together in a way that feels both complete and open. You can absolutely see how this could become a trilogy, and it’s exciting to imagine where Anna’s story might go next.

Final Thoughts

A gripping, atmospheric debut that pulls you into a town full of secrets and refuses to let go. Fast‑paced, immersive, and refreshingly coherent in a genre that often leans on shock value. A solid 4/5 and a brilliant start for an indie author you’ll want to keep an eye on.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dawn Rose Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Anna's husband, Tom, is missing and presumed dead after a storm, leaving her to navigate life in their small dockyard town while the mystery surrounding his disappearance begins to unfold. But it soon becomes clear that there may be far more beneath the surface of this seemingly quiet community.

The setting is wonderfully atmospheric and one of my favourite aspects of the book. Bradley Lyman brings the small dockyard town, its people and its atmosphere vividly to life. The mystery also hits early, grabbing your attention with the questions surrounding the missing girls. I particularly enjoyed the cliffhanger endings to the chapters, which had me repeatedly thinking, just one more chapter.

So, why only 3 stars from me?

Well, to be fair to the author, this is very much a me problem.

The trigger warnings themselves didn't bother me, but the first twist, which comes only a few pages in, gave me a definite sense of unease. It simply wasn't something I enjoyed reading, although I appreciate that this is entirely subjective.

I also struggled somewhat with the large cast of characters. There are a lot of them, and I found myself having to work quite hard to keep track of who was who. I suspect the size of the cast is partly there to create the twists, red herrings and misdirection along the way, but for me, it occasionally felt a little like throwing the kitchen sink at the story. Almost like adding cherries, cream and every possible decoration to an already delicious cake — enjoyable, but perhaps not all strictly necessary.

I did really appreciate the ending. There were no unanswered questions, and I liked that the story took its time to wrap everything up rather than rushing towards a swift conclusion. It gave the ending a satisfying sense of completion.

Overall, this is an interesting debut with a strong sense of place and an intriguing mystery. While a couple of elements didn't quite work for me, there is definitely something about Bradley Lyman's writing style that caught my attention, and I'll be checking out his next book.

I want to first start this review by saying thank you to Bradley for allowing me to read his book before it was released to the public.

From the very first chapter, Tides That Lie grabbed my full attention. It wasted no time pulling me into the story, and before I knew it, I was completely invested in uncovering the truth. Every time I thought I had it figured out, another twist was revealed that made me question everything all over again.

The pacing is one of the book’s biggest strengths. The chapters were short enough that I could justify “just one more chapter”. The tension builds steadily throughout, and I genuinely appreciated that the mystery unfolded piece by piece instead of relying on one big reveal.

I also enjoyed the atmosphere; the coastal setting added so much to the mood of the story, the eerie backdrop that made the suspense work. The setting had its own personality.

Anna was an easy character to root for. She’s flawed, emotional and doesn’t always make the best decisions, but that’s what I enjoyed about her—she felt human. I found myself genuinely invested in what she was going through.

However, that being said, there were a few things that kept this from being a full five-star read for me. At times, some of the descriptions of fear and anxiety felt repetitive, with similar reactions appearing throughout the novel. I would have liked to see some of the supporting characters explored a little more deeply; I would have liked to understand motives better.

While I enjoyed the final stretch of the book, there were so many revelations happening in quick succession that I would have liked a little more breathing room to fully absorb each one.

Even with those minor criticisms, I had a great time reading this. It’s an engaging psychological thriller with plenty of suspense, interesting character dynamics, and enough twists to keep me guessing until the end. If you enjoy fast-paced thrillers that keep you questioning who can be trusted, this is definitely one I’d recommend.

I’d happily read another book from Bradley Lyman in the future.
