Dear reader, immerse yourself in a maniacal, mind-ripping excursion through exotic, astrally-laced ventures in occult psychosis by taking hold of… Ghost Knife!
Dave is fairly new to authorship but is in no way new to horror! As a life-long rabid fan of the morbific, sneaking peeks at Alien on the adults' TV, the duty to contribute developed 'organically.' Though he counts guitar as his first love, and considers black metal divine, horror and sci-fi have consumed most of his 'available' time.
Dave's first novella, Ghost Knife, was published by fellow Texan and metalhead Pure Abandon Press, and includes a previously unpublished short story, "Tanto Demonium." He has four short stories circulating in Hellbound Books Publishing anthologies, where he was thankful to get his start in the gory trade, and caught the disease.
"Big blades are bombastic; demonic daggers are devilishly delicious."
This book is pure mind-bending, maniacal poetry. Every alliteration is a swipe of a blade. The descriptions become cinematic in your mind, as though you are also in Jake's mind, watching his personal snuff films with him. The decidedly unlikeable main character is the emcee to his deranged babble of psycho ramblings that suck you in and keep you wondering what Hell he is going to unleash next. This book keeps you wondering if what is happening is real, is he telling the truth, is the Djinn real, is Jake insane... You are pushed, page after page, further into his madness.
The title alone had me sold. Ghost Knife? Say less. I was already reaching for my Kindle before I'd even finished reading the synopsis. And that cover? Absolute perfection. The premise is ridiculously clever. We've all heard of people hiring assassins to eliminate their enemies... but hiring an ancient djinn bound to a knife? Now that's a concept I can get behind. I mean, technically you're not the murderer... right? At least that's what Jake is hoping. Jake is exactly the kind of protagonist I love reading about. He's articulate, self-righteous, completely unhinged, and watching him spiral further and further into madness was an absolute blast. This book is packed with bloodshed, supernatural chaos, and enough twists to keep me glued to the pages. Just when I thought I knew where things were heading, the story took another turn. What surprised me most, though, was the writing. It's one of those books where you can tell the author has put real care into every word. And those little details matter. I also loved the little nods scattered throughout for fellow metalheads. They never felt forced - they just added another layer of personality to an already unique story.
🩸 The Panic Verdict: A wildly entertaining supernatural revenge story with an unforgettable concept, a brilliantly unhinged protagonist, and enough blood to keep every horror fan happy.
The title alone was enough to create a lot of intrigue but the author delivers 100% on the story. Our main character is the perfect mix of eloquent, self-righteous and downright mad. A very fun ride start to finish with great twists and turns along the way.
We've all heard of people hiring assassins to take out an enemy. But here, Dave Davis does something downright mythical, creative, and ancient! Why not "hire" a djinn?! Technically, you're not the murderer and the "alleged" murderer doesn't really exist. At least, not the way the law needs them to be.
I can't help but rub my hands together in glee, thinking back on this wildly bloody and entertaining story!
The writing itself was meticulously crafted with each word flowing effortlessly into the next! I don't quite know how to explain myself when I say this, but the writing style made me reminisce about Edgar Allen Poe. Not for a shared ambiance but more so just the style. It's intended as a huge compliment, I just don't know how to explain why! Don't fire me, I'll just see myself out...
For everyone else who wants to read a revenge story that includes an ancient blade wielded by a freaking djinn, grab yourself a copy! It releases on June 5th, 2026!
This book is perfect for lovers of supernatural horror stories in search of something a bit out of the ordinary. The prose is carefully crafted and incorporates subtle allusions and references that bladesmiths and metalheads alike will appreciate. That is to say, this book is fuckin’ METAL!

Jake, a drunk who has had enough after being publicly embarrassed by a group at the bar decides to hire The Djinn King, a supernatural being capable of murdering and mutilating anyone in it’s path without being seen. As Jake deals with the police trying to find the murderer, he can’t help but rewind the murders in his brain like his own personal VHS collection. Will Jake get away with his bloodshed and vengeance with the help of the Djinn King, or will he take the fall for all of it. This was an absolute blast to read, funny moments and absolutely brutal kills. Dave Davis does an amazing job writing this story and I will most certainly be looking forward to his next creation
