This was a really helpful, insightful, and enjoyable distillation of Musashi’s Book of the Five Rings. Slobodan dissects each book, each section, with the precision of a sushi chef carving ahi to be delicately placed before the patron before consumption. Like the chef, the author doesn’t hurry through the effort nor does he leave you with just a hearty bite: there’s an application of the placement that matters, the accompaniments that join the dish, and the careful rendering of the meat that gives you more than just a taste — it invites you to celebrate the meal for all the effort that was applied to the preparation & delivery.
We get insight & understanding as well as pragmatic ways to deliver this dish to our own lives, daily, with careful consumption, absorption, and digestion of the text. It does not “add” to Musashi’s work, it simply carves the body’s meat to consumable bites, making for the reader a plate that is not just enjoyed, but taken in… and is one you can return to for more insight time & again.
