Wow!!! This freakin gripped me from the first chapter! There was a very cool vibe throughout the whole book. You could just FEEL there was something going on… but you honestly have no idea what. (You think you do, but girl… you don’t!)

The electric connection between Khai and Emmy was addictive and seriously steamy!

AND THAT ENDING! I saw hints throughout but I could not guess what it was.

As a first time author, amazing! this read so well, it was easy and smooth and had a great rhythm to it. I cannot wait to see what they do next.

4.5 ⭐ ARC Review 'Chasing Shadows'

🖤 Obsession
🖤 He Falls First
🖤 Touch Her & 💀
🖤 Forced Proximity
🖤 Protective MMC
🖤 HEA
🖤 Nurse FMC

Wow!! Firstly the near ending with Khai. Now that's through me for loop! What a plot twist!!
I still don't know how I feel about that to be honest, it's still playing on repeat in my mind even now. I Definitely will be doing a re-read down the track.

I absolutely can't say enough how I loved the poetic, descriptive, writing style of this author. It's exactly what I love. I can't wait to read more from her in the future. I really enjoyed this one. Could not put it down, and read in one sitting.

The dark, possessive, touch her and 💀 vibe is exactly what I loved from our MMC, yes please!🥵 The protectiveness he has over our FMC Emmy, her innocent and strong willed nature. A nurse who didn't run when she saved Khai's life. The tension between these characters was great. What a great debut to start with!!!

Thank you for the opportunity to read for you.
I can't wait to see more from you in the future🖤

"I'm afraid because the moment you're mine, the world will try to take you just to prove it can. I don't know what I'll do if someone tries"

- Morally grey MMC

- He falls first

- Forced proximity

- Dark secrets

- Nurse FMC

- Touch her and d!e

I really enjoyed this one. The chemistry and longing between the MMC (Khai) and the FMC (Emmy) is beautiful. I felt such a connection between them both, which I feel is rare in books. The author did a fantastic job with their chemistry.

The book is filled with suspense that leaves you on the edge of your seat and wanting to know what happens next. I really felt a pull toward Khais character as he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. The ending had me surprised. I was expecting a typical ending but it left me super impressed that I didn't see it ending that way.

I highly recommend this book. The author has done such a wonderful job. If you love a book with a morally grey MMC, lots of suspense and a romantic love story then you should definitely read it 🥰🥰

I would actually give this book 3.5 stars if Goodreads allowed half stars. This book is a quick read and I did enjoy it. However, I feel the story was missing some story and character building. It took me awhile to get vested with the characters and there were some scenes that I had a problem believing they could happen the way they were described. The ending did have an interesting twist that I didnt see coming and quite enjoyed! Overall for me it was just missing something. Don't let my review keep you from reading this story. Read it and decide for yourself because this is just 1 person's opinion.

First of all, I’d like to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book.

SECOND OF ALL… this book had me hooked from the very first page. I absolutely adored Khai and Emmy, and their chemistry kept me completely invested the entire time.

And that ENDING?! My jaw genuinely dropped. The twist sent me into an emotional whirlwind in the best possible way. I did not see it coming at all.

Highly, highly recommend this book!

This was such an easy book to get lost in. From the very beginning, there was this constant tension between light and darkness that kept me turning pages, not because I was desperate to know what would happen next, but because I was completely invested in watching these two characters collide.

One thing I want to point out is that if you are expecting an extremely dark romance, this may not fully fit that expectation. Khai is absolutely dangerous. He lives in a world built on violence, power, and survival. He has done terrible things and continues to do things that would make most people run the other direction.

Yet when it comes to Emmy, his darkness is never directed at her. His obsession and fixation are obvious from the start, but there is a difference between being dangerous and being dangerous to the person you love. That distinction is important here.

What really drew me in was the contrast between the two main characters. Emmy spends her life standing between life and death as an ICU nurse. She is compassionate, caring, and grounded in a way that makes her feel incredibly real. She sees people at their most vulnerable and dedicates herself to helping them survive.

Then there is Khai, a man who was practically raised in violence and conditioned to become exactly what his father wanted him to be.

Watching someone who spends her days saving lives become connected to someone who takes lives created such an interesting dynamic.

Khai himself was a character who pulled at my emotions far more than I expected. Yes, he is possessive. Yes, he is obsessive. Yes, there were moments where I wanted to shake him and demand better decisions. But underneath all of that was a man who never truly had the chance to become anything other than what he was molded into.

The most heartbreaking part of his story was not the violence. It was the way he was viewed by the person who should have loved him most.
I genuinely struggled with the fact that he continued to refer to his father with a title that implied respect when that man had done nothing to earn it.

Every interaction between them left me feeling frustrated, angry, and honestly heartbroken for Khai. The emotional damage inflicted on him throughout his life felt far more devastating than many of the physical threats present in the story.

Seeing a parent treat their child as a weapon instead of a son shattered something inside me. It explained so much about who Khai became and why he struggled to understand his own worth outside of what he could do for others.

Emmy became the one source of warmth in a life that had very little of it. She represented something he had never truly experienced before. Safety. Acceptance. Hope. While everyone else would likely see only the darkness surrounding him, Emmy managed to look deeper.

She saw the man underneath the bloodshed and violence. That did not mean she ignored who he was, but she understood there was more to him than the monster everyone expected him to be.

The romance itself worked because of that emotional foundation. It was not simply attraction. It was watching two people from completely opposite worlds slowly become each other's anchor. Emmy brought light into places that had been dark for far too long, while Khai's fierce devotion made it clear there was very little he would not do for her.

There were definitely darker moments throughout the story, and they fit naturally within the world the author created. Nothing felt included purely for shock value. The violence reflected the reality of Khai's life and the choices he had been forced to make. Those moments added weight to the story rather than overwhelming it.

What stayed with me most after finishing was not the action, the danger, or even the romance. It was Khai's emotional journey. Watching someone who had been taught his entire life that he was a weapon try to understand what it meant to be loved hit harder than I expected.

His relationship with Emmy gave him a glimpse of something he had never believed he deserved, and seeing that unfold was incredibly powerful.

Overall, this was an engaging romance filled with emotional depth, strong character contrasts, and a hero whose scars ran far deeper than the violence surrounding him.

Khai frustrated me, broke my heart, and made me root for him all at the same time. Combined with Emmy's compassion and strength, it created a story that was easy to sink into and difficult to forget.

This book??? Straight up weaponized yearning.
Like I blinked and suddenly I was 80 pages deep, fully invested, emotionally compromised, and questioning my life choices.

The tension??? Disgusting. Illegal. Should be studied.
Not even in a spicy way at first, just pure I want you but I shouldn’t energy that had me gripping my Kobo like I was part of the problem.

Khai??? Sir. Respectfully…no. Disrespectfully…yes.
That man said “you’re mine” and my brain said “well okay then.”

And EMMY?? Girl stood her ground and still got pulled into the most intense, shadowy, protective, borderline unhinged love I’ve read in a minute.

And the ENDING????
Absolutely criminal. I need emotional compensation. I had to reread the end just because I was so shook!!!

FIRST BOOK???
Ry Sin really said “let me just casually ruin people right out of the gate.” I cannot wait to see what comes next…love love love this authors writing style

This book is a thrilling and emotional ride that keeps you hooked from the very first page. The story has a great beginning, especially the way Khai and Emmy meet in a club. It's incredibly sweet how Emmy stays right by Khai's bedside after he gets shot early on, even though she doesn't really know him yet.Khai's dad is a total "piece of work," particularly in the terrible way he treats the people around him. If you love a fiercely protective hero, this book displays the "touch her and you die" trope beautifully. The ending will have you completely at the edge of your seat. It’s deeply satisfying to see Khai finally get to be with his other half, even if it took them a long nine years to get there.
A cute and gripping romance featuring a heroine who is always there to stand by her man whenever he gets hurt.

This books was such a good read. For a debut novel and debut author, I truly enjoyed this!

Emmy is the FMC and she is smart, brave and definitely full of brilliance. She doesnt scare easily and she embraces the danger. I loved her background as being a nurse and having such a kind heart. Khai, the MMC, is delicious and full of mystery. The way he connects with Emmy is SO full of passion and heat. The two of them are like sparks dancing around each other.

Ry's writing was well done for her debut. This book isn't full of spice but the scenes that do get hot and heavy are fullll of that "hold your breath" feeling. There was a wicked plot twist at the end that had me freaking out and was totally unexpected! There are side characters that I hope one day get their own stories!

Review of an advanced copy provided by the author

This book had me in its grips from page one. The authors writing style easy to read, keeps you wanting more of the story.

Emmy is an ICU nurse who is strong, brave and not afraid to ask the hard questions.
Khai has darkness in him, but it wasn't his choice. To survive, he had to do what he had to do.

The relationship between Emmy and Khai started out rocky, but as it progressed you saw Khai's obsessive yet protective stance, and Emmy's willingness, yet hesitantion to trust Khai.
The spice is subtle but there, there's tension, trauma, control.

This is a debut novel and knowing that, I can't wait to see what else the author puts out.

I will say that this story had me at first thinking wow this FMC is naive and it left me trying to put myself in her shoes to reprocess how I would handle it. The MMC Khai was a damaged and possessive man. Emmy was a nurse who comes across as a workaholic. Where they meet he is shot and since she is a nurse she dives right in to saving him. What follows is that "mine" energy we love in our book boyfriends.

There are aspects of this that will trip you up because the author did well at adding twist. I definitely sat there trying to piece together the mystery of it all.

It is a HEA but wow what a twist.

-Thank you for the chance receive an ARC :)

What do you mean this is a debut novel?! I was truly hooked from the beginning. I love me some Khai, the little control freak but also coming from a place of protectiveness. Emmy, sweet girl, has a heart of gold but also you’re not gonna tell her what to do. Has a best friend, Tate, who will support the questionable decisions but also ask about it at the same time. I was hooked and invested the whole time. I was not expecting it to end the way that it did, and I LOVE THAT. Shock me please. Surprise me. Have me audibly gasp in my apartment where my dog has to look at me crazy. Beautifully done. Truly loved this, especially for a debut novel. I cannot wait for what else Ry puts out.

Actually, damn. No comment.
I don’t even know where to start. I loved this book, I inhaled it. It was that good.
But he is so me, and at first I couldn’t take the ending seriously. After a while, and when I thought about it more, it’s actually a really good twist and kind of a funny one, personally.
This book got me good. I was expecting the worst... but not that.
I honestly don’t even know what to say.
The mcs I need more of them!!!
Started this book without thinking much about it, and I got a book with a good plot and tropes I love.

That ending…. What in the world….

At one point I was like oh no this is not going to be a HEA then I was confused as hell then I was like what the actual Fk 🤯

The slow burn & the emotion in this book was so well written, I was so invested in this story!
It was dark and dangerous and oh so good.

"Who are you.. really?"

"Someone you should never have
crossed paths with."
"But now that you have, there's no going back, Little Heaven."

So, I like the story, but I couldn’t do 5 stars because after finishing the book, I felt like it should have been written from one point of view..it leaves me with too many questions. Besides that it was well written and kept my interest. Not very spicy if that’s what your looking for but still a great story.

❤️‍🔥 5 STAR READ ❤️‍🔥
give this book 5 stars This book is a darkromans, so it's not for everyone. / personally love dark novels and thought this one was really good. In many darkroman books, some bad things get romanticized too much, but I think it sometimes goes a bit too far. This book didn't have that; of course, Stalker isn't normal, but it wasn't too far and still in a reasonably normal way. I liked the story and the characters too.
The background
story of the MM was surprising and made for a nice plot at the end. There is a lot of touch-her-die or overprotective parts in it, and | personally think it's great. I didn't get bored in the book either. In many books, the beginning isn't very interesting because the story still has to start and more info is needed to understand it, but this book was full of suspense, fun, or humor for all 282 pages. Definitely worth reading and a perfect recommendation for beginners reading darkroman because it is calm and doesn't go over too much, so everyone, what are you waiting for? Read it!
