Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.
I was starting to enjoy this series, until I went and read the synopsis for the other 6 books in this series. I waa excited to get to book 3 . I am going to stop on this one. How can Shawn and Serita not be together anymore. All be cause of high school puppy love. Crazy to me. I think the author should have went in a total different direction. All these relatives in this book. Each one could have had their own story. Oh well
Serita just can't seem to catch a break and be happy. She finally gets her family only to find out her mother doesn't want her and has never really wanted her. She also finds out that she has an older sister that carries the same mental illness traits that she and her mother carry. Will book three bring Serita happiness or more grief? Can't wait to find out!
Sweet and Sour, book 2 if The Sweet Series, was so good. There were so many twists and turns that I felt like I was reading about real people's lives. Seeing Serita and Shawn go through so much made me emotional, but I was glad to see that their love was stronger than their trials. Their families intertwining the way it did was sort of cute to me as well. It was interesting to see how they dealt with the secrets Serita's dad exposed, especially since Shawn was caught up in it. However, Shawn and Serita overcame those obstacles and continued to grow their family. I'm interested in seeing what happens next. I want to see if some of my predictions are true. Sweet and Sour was extremely unpredictable and enthralling to the point that I couldn't function until I finished it. Lol I'm about to read book 3 before this review can even process. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone that loves suspenseful, and dramaful black loves stories. This book has all the makings of an amazing romance story, so you won't be disappointed.
Oh my goodness, wow again 😮💨😮🤯‼️”Sweet and Sour (The Sweet Series- Book 2 of 8) the revelations are consistently “bitter sweet” for this family! Nervous breakdown ✅, understandable. Actually, that’s just a well deserved & earned extended vacation from this family’s certified crazy‼️Meanwhile, is it just me, or is there an excessive number of interbreeding in Beaumont, TX amongst the Jameson’s & Taylor’s⁉️….CREEPY WEIRD🫣🥴‼️…Still entirely too many unanswered questions. The great grandparents/grandmothers (Mamie Rideaux-Jameson & Louis & Janelle Thibodeaux) & Ms. Lucille, all need to enlighten us & shed some truth! …I need answers🤔‼️Storm ⛈️ clouds still hovered over Beaumont, TX 🫣…certified crazy town & drama central USA‼️
Something is definitely going to happen btwn Shawn and Sonya!!!… Serita knows Sonya is off balance just like their mother and Sonya is betting on her to over react so that her and Shawn can do what they wanna do!!!…He’s definitely still carrying a torch for her!!!… Serita’s mother is certainly a basket case and she is going to make everyone loathe her for sure!!!… Grandma told Shawn, things are gonna shift for him and it’s happening!!!… I can not wait to see what happens next!!!… I don’t see Shawn and Serita lasting to long because they are like night and day and her emotional/mental state is going to take her on a ride that opens her eyes to a lot of things that are buried deep within her before she truly start her healing journey!!!…
Wow this book really picks up from book 1and boy do things become interesting. Just when Shawn and Serita get in a good place things start happening left and right. From the loss of granny, new siblings popping up and secrets being revealed, you can't help but wonder what will happen next. The connections these characters have is endless. Sonya is a piece of work and just as manipulative as the mother. I do like that the Shawn and Serita's siblings get along and developed an immediate bond. Overall great book that will have you wanting to know more about these characters.
But I couldn’t put the book down. This book had my nerves bad and I needed a cigarette and I don’t smoke. I found myself either clinching, taking labored breaths, or changing from laying down to sitting on my bed every time one of their phones rang! Don’t pick up the phone, don’t answer the door, everybody sit down, shit up and don’t move. The drama from both families was everything but an alien invasion and Armageddon. The love between all the couples was sweet but all of the drama was definitely sour. I will continue the series because I am very curious as to what happens next and a glutton for punishment. 5 stars for keeping me intrigued!
Omg,I’m I don’t even know where to start. The first book was drama filled but with this one, it really seemed like what Serita said, there wasn’t a break. Every chapter had some craziness going on. Towards the end of this book I started to really dislike Shawn. Like I already was looking at him out the corner of my eye from the first time he messed over my girl.
My head was spinning I couldn’t keep up with the drama. I’m still looking forward to the next book just to see where this goes. What happened to Sonya, see if their mom shows back up. And if in the end Shawn and Serita really do make it.
If you're looking for a story with lots of drama this book is it. There were a lot of moments I you just can't believe it then there were some really deep tragic moment's . Although this book kept you entertained it also shows how important taking care of your mental health is. That is something I noticed with this author and it is one of the main reasons I love her books and the black love of course. I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to seeing how their lives play out. Good read!
I spoke too fast in my review of book one. Bay-bay!! When I say I spoke too fast, please believe me!!! Shawn had/have me sooo disappointed! I just felt for Serita all through book 1 and through this book too!!! Poor baby couldn't catch a break!! Trauma was all through this book. I have read her re-telling of all she has been through, which is what made me come looking for her book. I loved Shawn in book 1, not so much in this book. Though they are together when this book says the end I know some 💩 is coming!!
I have been slowing down my reading to enjoy each minute of this story. I took three days to read three chapters. I savored every word. Then I hit my forehead, there is more "sweet series". Ima buy books 3 and 4 for now. Living in Beaumont for 7 years has made me realize just how different the place must b. This book has left me wanting more of the Shawn and Series growing families.
The drama amongst these families. Sonya is a HOT mess with a ton of real issues. The issues that are in this book are serious and people deal with them every day. The ups and downs that Serita had to deal with. Serita was running an organization for girls, trying to raise twins, and take care of her family. Serita had a good heart, she was worried about her family but not worrying about herself…..
Monica this is one of the books I needed to read to fully tell me what happened after serita got pregnant with the twins but now you got me wondering about Sonya and how she ended up with Shawn because she is truly crazy with big issues. I feel bad for Chris with her using him as a pawn and then she beat him. Omg!!! I can't wait to read the next book
Wow! This was definitely a page turner - drama at every turn, and I enjoyed reading it. I had questions after reading book 1 of the Sweet Series and they were definitely answered in this 2nd book, which ended with a cliff hanger. So, on to book 3 to follow up.
This was a great follow up to series 1. This series had alot of turning points, heartfelt moments and took you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. Its brings up the issue of how important family is to you the reader and the struggles heartbreak and memories families share. To say the least this is a series anyone can relate to..
The book follows Serita Jameson and Shawn Taylor and their families. They fall in love, get married, have babies, then the drama. Every turn there was something and no one was exempt. Old and young, there was drama... If you're looking for a love story, this is not it, but, if you like drama, I definitely recommend this read!
Monica, you are an awesome writer, this series has me on pins and needles. I just started reading this series Sunday and I'm on book 3 now. I would recommend this series to anyone. The subjects you wrote about are very interesting and emotional, I had have laughed and cried. Keep writing and I will keep reading.
This series definitely got me on my toes and in my feelings, a real rollercoaster ride of emotions....I am enjoying Ms. Walters books this storyline is deep and emotional though, sometimes I want to stop reading but the characters keep drawing me right back in 💙
This one took me on an emotional roller coaster. I know we all go through things but man Shawn pissed me off. I wonder if Trey will find out who sent him to jail or if I missed that part. I feel the Trey portion isn't completely resolved. I'm upset about Sonya but she get it from her mama!
Wow! Its never a dull moment!!! My head hurt from all the drama. Shawn and Serita had me pulling my hair. This book has a lot of sensitive issues and had me all in my feelings. I am almost afraid to read book 3...but I am 😁
Let me tell you this book took you through an emotional ride. Serita and Shawn went through so much especially Serita. Serita's Mom & Sister had me 48 hott. Moving on too book 3
The second part of this saga was definitely a tangled web of lies and a shenanigan here and there. Shawn make me want to B slap him over and over. Now let's see what happens in the next story.
Welp I didn’t see this one coming and to keep from spoiling it for any other readers I finished this book in less than 5 hours and if you are fan of Ms. Walters you will know why she wrote the hell of this installment 😖 on to the next😃
Shawn is determined to keep his family together. I love how he has worked to make sure his wife knew where she come from. They now understand the unstable mind set came from the mother. This series is so good.
Should have stopped at book one. All the drama and life in this book ruined the characters for me. I had to skim through it just to finish. She turned loving characters into monsters. Not a fan.
This book had my mouth open like what. So many twist and turns so many secrets. Sooooooo good. I can’t wait to see what book 3 is about. Look I don’t want to give away the book but its really really good.
The saga continues with Sarita and Shawn. As their family continues to grow there's more problems and more secrets. What's done in the dark always comes to light. I'm still into this series on to book 3.
The characters in this series are cray--cray. Folks are related by blood or by marriage. Shawn and his wife Sherita Jameson Taylor are up against another long lost family member whose goal is to be the next rich Mrs. Shawn Taylor. On to Book three to continue the family drama.
This book had a lot of twists, turns and bombs dropped! I was so emotional but it was so good. Because people deal with mental illness everyday. That Shawn Taylor tho, don't know if you want to love him or beat the hell out of him!
