Lillie J. Roberts is a debut author with Crimson Romance. She lives in the middle of nowhere, USA (literally... well, really rural central Illinois) but far from the maddening crowds with her husband, three kids, and one wicked westie (but not far from farm machinery, cows, horses, and various wild animals who like to come and peek in her front door). She loves paranormal romance, urban fantasy, spicy romance reads, and young adult of all kinds... and writes them too.

Now I remember why I stopped reading Koonz and King - that heart racing who will live and who won't make it at the end of the book is exhausting. Well done, Lillie J. Roberts, you kept me nose to the page as the evilness unfolded. I love reading YA and the teens in this book came alive with Roberts' words and descriptions. But my heart went out to the little boy, Sam. A little brother, a younger child filled with soul clutching fear made the efforts and struggles of the teens feel like avengers. Like a good scare? This book is for you. And maybe I won't leave the window cracked open tonight .......

Lillie Roberts did a nice job with this story. I read this book based on the initial description of the opening pages. The story was very engaging and kept me going page to page. Although The Boogeyman story has been done before, Mrs. Roberts version was compelling and I thoroughly enjoyed the read. The characters and dialog were believable and the pace was right on. I would've liked to have seen more at the very end though. And I really did not want to tell you about it, but if you want to be thrilled, frightened a bit, or maybe even shed a tear, you should read it. By the way, The Boogeyman was quite a deranged character. I recommend this book.

The time flew by as I read The Boogeyman. Easy and fast read, creepy but not gross. Excellent characters.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I knew when I started reading this book that I would like the premise because it reminded me of my all time favorite book, Intensity by Dean Koontz. It starts off with the two girls who I mostly came to care about although they were not the highlights of the story for me. Then we meet Cory and his little brother Sam and for me they make the book. They are great well rounded characters with a heartbreaking back story. The way the bad guy was messing with them was creepy and awful and I was rooting for Sam from the get go. All of the characters were done very well and their relationships with each other were fun to watch unfold. The setting was done well and I was able to easily imagine the different places and how they fit together. The setting was almost a character itself as it played a large part in the story. It was creepy, helped to create a sense of helplessness and was real all at the same time. The story had a good pace with the exception of a couple of needless conversations that the cops had toward the end of the story but they were easily overlooked.

There were some things that didn't necessarily work for me after looking back. The bad guys motivations were never very clear. I thought he was just running around killing people for fun then things happened that made me question that. A few times characters did things that didn't make any sense. Like the cops being worried about a warrant. Then something is mentioned at the end which is a huge plot twist but its not explained to my satisfaction. I would have also like more violence.

Overall this was an enjoyable read that I finished pretty quickly. The characters and setting are very well done and I look forward to reading more by this author. If you like survival stories, creepy stories, or stories about brothers facing evil together then give this book a try. You won't be disappointed.

If I could give this chiller/thriller ten stars, I would. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I read the entire novel in one sitting! A heart-stopping, powerful, wonderful read! Ms. Roberts has some serious talent.

The title of this book is quite suiting. The story is truly one of the most nightmarish situations one could find themselves in. No one expects The Boogieman to be real, but in this book, he definitely is. And boy is he twisted.
Once I started reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. I just HAD to know what was going to happen next. Would The Boogieman be caught? Would he get away with the horrible things he was trying to do? I honestly didn’t know.
This story is really well written and kept me guessing throughout the book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a scary story that shows the reader that sometimes, your fears are real!
