Again, you really should read the previous book to get what is happening in this one. Shep spends a lot of the book as a patient so it is not really HOT. I liked Ana. It was just so unbelievable. Their relationship progressed so fast once they got together. With no hiccups and only I love you's. The outside drama just did not connect with me. A huge tragedy happened and it was glossed over. The book should have been better. But it was just ok.

FIVE 'MY ANGEL' STARS!

This is the fifth and final book in Leslie Wilder's Devil Chasers MC series. I absolutely love books about bikers and MCs (motorcycle clubs), and I have thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Wilder's offering in this genre. She's created a fantastic series in Devil Chasers with big, bad-boy alpha male bikers and the strong, sassy women they love. This series has a definite suspenseful edge to it without it being overly gritty, harsh or raw. The plot line in this book was interesting, exciting, sexy, and intense at times. I positively loved it.

"Becoming a doctor had been my dream for as long as I could remember..."

Ana Sanders, pouring everything she has into completing her residency, has little time for anything outside of her work. Having recently lost her mother, she cannot remember the last time she's been on a date or even had a spark of interest in a man. She has her father, and her best friend of six years, Steven, and it's all she can do to make time for them. Focused solely on work, she is completely blindsided when her well ordered life suddenly spirals out of control.

Sheppard is loyal soldier in the Devil Chasers MC. After his return from Afghanistan, he was a severely wounded and haunted man. Bishop, the president of Devil Chasers, brought Sheppard into the brotherhood giving his life the focus and grounding he desperately needed. With the help of his MC family, he was able to get past the nightmare of his war experiences, and he now will do whatever he has to do to protect his family.

"I close my eyes and the darkness devours me."

Sheppard and the Devil Chasers are one the verge of war with the Black Diamonds MC. A tense meeting between the two rival clubs goes astray which results in Sheppard being put in a very precarious, life or death situation. Ana finds his nearly lifeless, unconscious body, and she and her father decide, due to her issues at the hospital and the questionable wounds on Sheppard, to bring him back to Ana's for treatment. Ana not only treats him, but she successfully nurses him back to health over the next several weeks. During this time together, Sheppard and Ana grow closer and closer before finally succumbing to the overwhelming attraction between them.

"You're an unexpected gift in my life..."

While Sheppard is convalescing at Ana's, she finally confides in him about everything that happened regarding her dismissal from the hospital, her suspicions and the other strange things that have been happening to her. An escalation of Ana's problems has her and Sheppard heading to the Devil Chasers clubhouse where Ana will be protected. Everything that is happening to Ana all circles back to the hospital, and Sheppard will utilize the full resources of the Devil Chasers to get to the bottom of whatever it is that is going on there and stop it from affecting Ana.

"...I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe."

Can Ana accept Sheppard's life as a member of the Devil Chasers MC? Will the MC uncover whatever shady goings on are happening at the hospital? Will Ana ever realize her dream of becoming a doctor?

Ms. Wilder has given her readers an intriguing and very well written and developed story in this book. Coupling that plot line with the steamy romance of Sheppard and Ana makes this an irresistible, not-to-be missed addition to an already fantastic series. I've been a fan of Leslie's since I read her debut novel, the first book in this series, Inferno, and it has been such a pleasure for me to see her growth as an author through each book. I'm very much looking forward to many more future books from the talented Leslie Wilder.

I have been a huge fan of Leslie Wilder's Devil Chaser's MC series and I'm going to sound like a broken record when I echo other reviewers by saying I LOVED THIS BOOK...one of my favorites.
Ana is a hard working devoted intern at her local hospital, a devoted daughter to her dad who owns a farm, and most of all an honest woman with integrity who could not, in all good conscience allow some shady events at her hospital go unnoticed. Being a whistleblower gets her in trouble with the hospital admins and she is suspended and at home on leave when she finds a wounded man, near death, by the river behind her home. Of course the doctor in her takes over, and against her father's advice she takes the mysterious stranger into her home to nurse him back to health.
Sheppard was hurt in a shootout during club business and his MC brothers think he is dead, having fallen into that river leading to Ana's house.
Not surprising that a relationship forms between doctor and patient and when things turn hot, steamy and passionate...the sweet Ana finds herself head over heels for the tough biker who has decided to claim her as his own. The dangerous truth of what she has left behind at her job follows her close to home and she is forced to let Sheppard and his club in on who/what has been threatening her safety. A trip to the clubhouse and a glimpse into Sheppard's life is all that it takes for Ana to go all in...and when she learns to hold her own against some catty women and finds her place to belong, it was awesome.
I love the fast pace of the book and how every moment is special and doesn't waste time with extra filler...Wilder gets to the point and to the heart of the characters, keeping the story flowing and very exciting. There is some violence and strong sexual content but no abuse, rape or cheating.
I am sad that this is the last book in this series but the author notes at the end of the book that she will continue on with another MC series and the story of Maverick (who we meet near the end of Combust) will be the first book.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I had the privilege of receiving an Arc for a honest review, well it doesn't get more honest than this.
Where do I begin, this is a MC read, that is truly a beautiful story.
Shepherd's story starts on page one and the Author grabs you, and doesn't quit even as, I was trying to get more pages to turn on my kindle when there were no more to read.
Shepherd has no idea that as he is flailing down river with a body riddled with bullets he believes he's going to die when in reality he is going to wake up and live!
Ana, an intern working hard to become a Dr. finds herself in a position that makes her dream appear to be out of reach. When Ana finds a stranger on the edge of river and likely almost dead. when these two people's world colide it's a whirlwind of souls that belong together. The only question that remains is will Shepherd heal and grab what's in front of him as his soul mate, and return to his club, and will Ana be the person that completes Shepherds world. Will Ana fit in his lifestyle? Your gonna have to read Combust to find out! I recommend you read this beautifully written love story.

Loved this series!

I was so taken back by the ending of the last book, Consumed, that I needed this book to give me some sense of peace and closure. This last installment is about Ana and Sheppard. That in itself was a blessing because at least there WAS a Sheppard ~ all thanks to Ana. As Sheppard recuperates, Ana, a suspended resident, is in danger and needs the protection and support of the Devil Chasers. He'll do anything to protect her as he has fallen in love with her. The shock of Shep's return is heartfelt throughout the club and knowing that Ana is responsible for saving his life they don't waste anytime in getting to the root of who has put her and the lives of other patients at the hospital in grave danger. Ana adjusts to club life and fits right in with the girls ~ perfect ending to this series as Tessa and Bishop marry ~ After all, it all started with them. Really loved the Devil Chaser's MC and the loyal commitment and brotherhood amongst the guys. Leslie Wilder did a fantastic job and I'm really looking forward to Maverick, the spinoff from this series ~ Thanks Leslie

Ana Sanders is a resident Dr but getting kicked out of the program and is having trouble but its when she comes up on a man in the water that had several gun shot wounds. She kicks into gear to save him.
what she didn't expect is to fall in love with him.
shep is with the Death Dwellers MC they are in a shootout he gets hit and thrown in the lake and dragged down stream.he fights to keep awake and to stay alive but when he wakes up after being pulled out he sees this Angel in front of him.he finds that he wants to get to know her but shep isnt a relationship type till he meets Ana and he will do anything to save her life and make sure she becomes part of his life .
wow Leslie did it again but damn Shep is now my new favorite death dweller lol I love this book and how someone who doesn't believe in love or relationships finds the his true love.
just absolutely love it!

This was just okay.

I have read most the others in the series, but don't feel you have to be too up to speed to start this book.

I liked everything to start with...the h being a Dr and saving the H in his time of need...the way these two started their relationship off...HOTT!
I even really liked where the suspense of the story was going with the h's previous employer and getting random phone calls.
But then....then everything just went BAM BAM BAM, story over.
I was so disappointed. I felt like things could have been written out so much better. It's almost like the author was just wanting the story to end. The first half was laid out great! Then the 2nd half just rushed down the hill as fast as it could to it's HEA.
So overall just okay. Even the sex got a little too much because I was actually wanting more from the story.

✨✨ Awesome Series!! ✨✨

I've really enjoyed reading the Devil Chaser's from meeting club prez Bishop in book 1 and following through till the end with Sheppard. Goliath still remains my all time favourite biker in this series however Sheppard was a close second followed thirdly by Crack Nut. It's kinda sad to see the Devil Chasers MC ending but having Sheppard finding his own Angel after nearly dying was well worth it.

Best line in the book for me had to have been Courtney and her outburst...“I can’t help it that your vagina has been used more than Google, Brandi! That’s all on you, babe,” Courtney says with a sweet smile....

Thank you L.Wilder for giving us the Devil Chaser hotties and I really hope to see more MC books out soon.

I totally love Sheppard, when I first started this series and we were introduced to all the guys I thought Goliath would be my favorite. It was close with Shep just edging out Goliath. I loved how eventhough he loved and missed his mc family, knowing that they thought he was dead he put all that aside and didn't contact them to keep Ana safe. And Ana she brought a complete stranger, who had been shot and was dying, into her home not knowing what trouble he was in or who was looking for him, saved him and nursed him back to health. Brave girl, I would have did my best to stop the bleeding, keep his heart beating while waiting on the police and ambulance. Although short I loved this love story.

ARC FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

Oh Holy Hell where do I start! Ana first off she finds this man laying on the river bank almost dead. She takes care of him and bring this Adonis back to life. When Shep and Ana finally get to all of that attraction they have for one another. Shep will ,make you want to Combust yourself at all that protective male ego and sex on a stick is just yummy!! When Ana explains to Shep about her problems with works lets just say no rock is left unturned and no fire is left in flames except for Ana and Shep who set the pages on fire. This was as always a great book and much Love to you Leslie! On another great job and panty melting story.

What a way to end a great series.

Sheppard has always been the club member a little rough around the edges. It was in bad circumstances that he was taken away from the Devil Chasers MC. He was hurt and alone when his angel rescued him.
Ana was doing her residency at a local hospital when the floor fell out from under her life. All she had ever wanted to do was to become a doctor. Now someone wants to take that away from her.
The first time Sheppard and Ana lay eyes on each other they both know that their life's are about to change.
Combust is a book I would recommend as a great read.. Sheppard and Ana are an unexpected ending to a great series.

I haven't read the previous books in the series so maybe that affected my read. I liked it, but I just needed a little more conflict. There was no real conflict to them getting together. The intrigue with the hospital was interesting, the characters were interesting, but at no time did I think there was any possibility they wouldn't end up together. They got together and then that was it... So that kind of made it more of an ok read for me rather than a stellar one.

This was the best of the series...I don't want to end. It's like saying good bye to family. The author has taken us through the characters lives and made us live them. Phenomenal...Ana and Sheppard were my favorite couple yet and their HEA the best...looking forward to Mavericks series

Since reading the last chapter of "Consumed", I couldn't wait to read Sheppard's story and I LOVED it! This one had a little different story-line, since there wasn't the classic MC grunges and wars, which was unexpected and very pleasant.

Overall Rating: 4.25 Rockin’ ★★★★

Upon finishing Combust by L. Wilder I realized that this was the last book in her series Devil Chaser's MC and it made me really sad. I felt sad because it is a farewell to characters that I have come to know so well. I also felt sad because I really didn't want this to be the end. This series is about sexy alpha heroes romancing strong minded heroines and saying goodbye saddens me. With all this said, Combust is a great ending to a tremendous MC series! I really enjoyed reading Dillion aka Sheppard and Ana's story.

This was a softer side of Sheppard that we previously had not seen. His dominant alpha side was still there, but a tender loving side entered the picture when he found his Angel. Ana is as intelligent as she is beautiful - inside and out. Her goal has always been to help others by becoming a doctor. She has almost obtained it when her residency at the local hospital is suspended for made up charges against her character, moral code and skill as a doctor!

The chemistry between them begins when Ana finds her knight in shining armor with three bullets in him, bleeding out and dying on the riverbank near her home. She uses all her knowledge, skill and strength to bring him back to the land of the living. She knows that he is special even without words spoken between them. When a stalker begins a more aggressive approach to Ana, Sheppard steps in and rejoins the outside world. All the brothers and their "ole ladies" rally around to help overcome the evil that is chasing her and harming other innocent victims.

Hero: Dillon “Sheppard” 4.25 stars
Heroine: Ana 4.25 stars
Steam: 4.25 stars
Plot: 4.25 stars
Cliffhanger: No

Would I recommend this book: Yes! Once again, Leslie Wilder has given us a great book filled with twists and turns, drama and love, with the main characters finally ending up with their happily ever after. Warning this is a hot, sexy read that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Would I recommend this author: Yes! Ms. Wilder is a gifted author and storyteller. Personally, I can't wait to see what she will come up with next. Thank you for the amazing series and your gift of entertainment and creativity. I am anxiously awaiting her new book about Maverick and his gang.

I’ve been a fan of Leslie since Inferno, so much so I actually bought 2 copies! And her books have NEVER disappointed me. So I was not shocked at the amazingness that was Combust. However I was amazed at how much it sucked me in, and that takes a lot to do! She has completely blown all of her other books out of the water!

With Sheppard you knew it was going to have to be great! But the insight into this man was so much better then I could have anticipated! Sheppard was so sweet and kind. And totally Alpha. Even injured he was more concerned about what was going on with Ana then himself.Getting to see him so vulnerable was a true shocker, I think that, that helped him to see just how important Ana was and would be to him in the future.

Ana was driven and focused and so unassuming that when she showed her strength and convictions about wanting to care for Sheppard you just knew they were going to be combustible together. I loved how Ana’s sweetness smoothed out Sheppards rough edge’s and made him a better man for it.

The characters were strong, the plot kept me on the edge of my chair, and my husband had to force me to put my tablet down to sleep because I was so into it, and the ending?? Have I mentioned the ending? OMG it wrapped up not just this book, but the entire series in a way that you knew everyone was gonna be ok!.... Doesn’t mean I don’t want more of course ;)

Leslie Wilder this book was phenomenal!!

Sheppard *sigh* so glad he made it!! After being shot at the end of the last book I was so glad to see we are getting his story and it's a good one! Near death Sheppard is found on the river bank by the beautiful angel that is Ana. Currently a suspended medical resident, she knows immediately she has to do something to help him. Best decision ever!! As he recovers they become close and the more he learns her story to more he worries for her safety. Convinced she's in danger he takes her back to the clubhouse and gets the brothers to help unravel the mystery surrounding her unwarranted suspension. The more they learn to more Sheppard is convinced he's done the right thing bringing her her but he needs to make things right for her and for the patients of the hospital!

This book is great and one I definitely recommend. Now that I've finished my binge read of all things L Wilder, I'm tapping my foot wondering what's next and when!

I just finished Combust and I really liked it. It's apart of the Devil Chaser MC series so if you want the full effect of the characters I would recommend reading in order. This story is the final one and it's about Sheppard and Ana. At the of Consumed you know Sheppard took two bullets for Bishop his Prez and it shot him in to barge and he drifts away. Ana behind a doctor saw him on her lake and ends of saving him. She is having a hard time with her career, someone is trying to sabatoge it. Since Sheppard has grown fond of her, he wants to make sure she is safe and he goes looking to defend her. Continue reading to see how he will all end

I really enjoyed this one. For me it's the best one out of the series. They all started to get better towards the end as the author grows as a writer. I'm glad I stuck with it. I would have missed out on a really good series.

I can't wait to see what she does with her next series!

~I received an ARC for an honest review.~

I love all of L. Wilder's books. However, Combust is hands down my favorite.
Oh Sheppard. How I love thee. Handsome, smart, honest, alpha, badass, with a sweet side.
Injured and unsure of where he is, all he remembers is seeing an "Angel". Turns out his Angel is non other then Ana, ER resident. She finds him after he is shot and washes up on shore. Recently let go from her job, she decides to help him.
I really enjoyed Ana. She was strong yet had an air of innocence about her. I think she is the perfect match for Sheppard.
Throw in a dash of craziness, (I knew something shady was happening at the hospital, but hot damn!!! I would have never guessed.), hot hot hot sex, a little bit of fairytale love, and you've got your self a hit.
I'm sad to see the Devil Chasers end, but can't wait to see what Mrs. Wilder writes next. ❤️

L. Wilder just knows how to write a great story. Combust is my favorite of all the Devil Chaser's MC books. Sheppard/Dillon is definitely my favorite Devil Chaser!! Who doesn't like a sexy alpha badass biker with a soft side?! Ana is a badass in her own way too. She saves a stranger that has been shot and washes up from the lake in front of her house. She has been suspended from her ER residency and this helps with the doubt she has been having about being a doctor. I'm sad to see this series end but look forward to more great books by the wonderful L. Wilder.

I couldn't put this one down, with each book in this series I fall in love with the characters. Sheppard/Dillon is no different. I have fallen in love with him, and Ana's story. I loved the story line, and with the ending of Bobby's book I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen with Sheppard. And this book did not disappoint! Am sad that this is the last book in the Devil Chaser's series but am interested in reading about Maverick's club next! I highly recommend this whole series! I read this because of the summary someone gave in one of my Facebook groups: Ana, who's completing her residency at a hospital, is facing some problems; she saves Dillon, who was shot, and then he saves her. Well.

The word I would use to describe this book is anticlimactic. First of all, it seems way too easy to accuse Ana of that long list of misdemeanors, and no one is willing to query them, even her previously supportive supervisor. He says there is evidence that she had created on multiple exams: what was the evidence? And if she were having relations with one of the married surgeons, who was he? Presumably he'd deny it--since he was married--so there'd really be no evidence of that, would there? No one thinks it odd that the hospital board would deny her a hearing to contest the allegations or defend herself? Because it can't be that the whole hospital would be in on the racket, right? Nor the whole board?

Second, it seems way too easy for Ana to treat Dillon at home. Very conveniently, she has O-negative blood, so she is able to transfuse blood directly from her own vein to his. I'm not sure that this is proper medical procedure; and how would she know that she had "given him just enough to stablise him for the surgery"? Because, how is there a way to measure or keep track of how much she had given him? And how is it that she has all this equipment and tubes at home -- a saline drip, an IV kit, scalpels? My father is a physician and we didn't have all this stuff at home when I was growing up. Granted, I don't live in the US, so maybe American doctors are different... but, I don't know. It feels far-fetched to me.

Third, it seems way too easy for Dillon and Ana to fall in love. From the first, he calls her his angel, and she is physically attracted to him despite him being in severe pain and weak as a newborn kitten. I didn't like that they had sex without any discussion of protection, because even though Ana was on the shot, she is a doctor, for God's sake. She ought to know about STDs. Condoms don't only prevent pregnancy!

Then, after the sex, they declare their love really quick and it was like from zero to 100. Granted that Dillon might have been more inclined to love the woman who saved his life, but there was no real reason for Ana to love him when she didn't even know what kind of person he was. The fact that he had two gunshot wounds in his torso was a clear indication that he had been involved in something dangerous, perhaps even criminal. But... Ana buries her head in the sand. There's no indication that Dillon ever told her why or how he got shot, and she never asks.

Fourth, it seems way too easy for Dillion to deal with Ana's problem. I'm trying to avoid spoilers here, but you know he would deal with the problem, because Ana's his woman. This was the most anticlimactic scene I've ever read in the history of MC books. It also makes no sense that the villain went after Ana's good friend instead of going after her. If it's meant to be a warning, usually they don't do what they did, because there's no benefit to it, and also, you know, it gets harder to cover up $hit like that. Especially when it comes to things like arson. Like, does he think he can keep the entire fire department in his pocket, too???

Fifth, all the scenes with Ana's dad were cringe central. They were awkward as hell, the dialogue was stilted, and the way he reacted to anything that was said was just so far out of the realm of natural that it took me right out of the story.

The way Ana's best friend and neighbour confesses his love for her was cringe central, too. I couldn't figure out why she would want to hide Dillon from him, anyway. If he knows her as well as she claims he does, he would know she couldn't just leave the guy to bleed to death; it's just not in her. And, I also can't tell why he's so upset and worried that the guy might hurt her, when this guy is right that moment in horrible pain and can barely lift his head up from the pillow. The worry just seems rather out of proportion. Cue more awkward dialogue: "I've really tried to be there for you, Ana, but this is just too much." Really? In what way is it 'too much'? Only the author knows.

I was going to give this book three stars, but as I was writing this review I decided it's really a two-star book. Indie writers, I know you can do better! Ms Wilder thanks her editor at the end of the book, and I would say that if the editor was a copy editor, she did a great job because there were no grammatical or spelling errors in the book. But I think a developmental editor could really help Ms Wilder take her writing to the next level.
