The Centennial: A Horror Movie LitRPG

A group of friends will have to survive the movie―without letting its horrors spill off the screen―in the chilling fourth installment of this LitRPG series.

In the horror-movie town of Carousel, Project Rewind is nearing its end. Every player who made progress solving the game’s central mystery has been erased. Except, of course, for a select Riley Lawrence and his friends―Kimberly (the Eye Candy) and traumatized Antoine (the Athlete), allies Dina (the Outsider) and Bobby (the Wallflower), and new members Isaac (the Comedian) and Cassie (the Psychic).

With no one else left to carry the story forward, the burden of winning the game and saving their childhood friends, Anna and Camden, lies solidly on the shoulders of this stalwart group of survivors. But the world around them is shifting once again as Carousel unveils an ominous event known as the Centennial, a celebration that marks the arrival of new actors as well as a hard reset of the game.

In order to learn more about Carousel’s secrets and move closer to beating it once and for all, Riley and his team must play their parts. But as they make their way through the tutorial, things aren’t adding up. The Centennial has been hijacked by mysterious forces, and a plot is underway that threatens to trap the players forever. Now, they’ll need to go off-script and venture beyond their current timeline―or risk falling victim to an all-powerful figure who’s pulling strings from behind the scenes . . .

The fourth volume of the hit LitRPG horror series―with more than three million views on Royal Road―now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!

4.5 🌟 It is so interesting to go back and reread this now that it is in print! The Centennial arc is a interesting one that lays a lot of important groundwork for the story moving forward that I can really appreciate on a return read.
There are some really good character beats in this arc. Seeing Riley come into himself a bit as a director and Kimberly as a real actress and the two of them bonding to set up their relationship moving forward. Antoine's continued struggles healing, and Bobby Not Managing in the background, and the introduction of Ramona.
On my first read through Ramona was someone who I never really felt I noticed, but in this book there are actually a lot of moments between her and Riley that I realized I had missed that set up how they relate to one another, that now makes me feel like I understand them better.
This is a really good entry and I am so excited to own another physical copy of one of the best LitRpgs out there.

Well that was a twist. Continuity can be difficult to keep with a series this detailed, but so far it all folds together in a good way.

Eldritch horror was not on my bingo card for this series, but if that’s the angle I’m all in.

Yeah, this is a setting book. Two of the histories are pretty meh and the third is mid tho the end is interesting for the future of the series

I was going to give this one 3-4 stars because while intriguing it was often too weird and/or frustrating.

But the ending had to happen and bumped things up. I wonder why. Maybe you should read it...

carousel proper is still the best character, but Riley is doing a good job as a sidekick

Reading Carousel feels like playing past the parcel, you really wanna get to the centre, but every time you get to unwrapping a layer, there’s something amazing. The story runs are still strong with how they explore the characters and abilities …..and in the end Carousel is still oddly optimistic….(suspenseful music) I’m sure that’s gonna be fine.

Overall the story was a good continuation of the other stories but just felt a touch to meta, I loved reading about the sub stories and plots in the past books but due to the over arching plot the sub stories just felt a bit dry and less impactful.

Hopefully next book has some cool one off stories.

I'm generally not a big fan of "railroading," but this set-up was very enjoyable. Perhaps a tad bit too meta here and there, but with the same charm from the first arc. There's interesting character work and plenty of mystery in that on point tone. The second plotline and the conclusion were my favourite parts. Can't wait for book 4!

Good!

That series still good. No cheap dramas, no gimmicks, no characters that change completely in a time so short that you raise your eyebrow, like tv series. And bonus, we finally learn some of the hidden mysteries from Carousel! Can't wait for book 5!

I had a love hate relationship with this book. It got good, then got boring, then got good, and then boring. Not as good as the first 3.
