Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
Best book in the series so far. Laura's character was diminished somehow but boy was it a ride!! A proper adventure mystery just like Blyton always delivered!!!
Oh my god my absolute favorite book of all time. I got it from my school library and now I'm about to go to uni so its been a long time since I last read it. SO MUCH NOSTALGIA. I suddenly got the urge to recommend it to my BFFs and FORCE THEM TO READ IT. The centuries old Greyling's treasure, the 'G' of Greyling, the woods, the dusty little cottage in the woods, the stream and the water lilies! Cleaning the place out, the little fireplace, the blocked chimney, cooking for themselves, carrying the water from the stream in small buckets, the three cups from Granny's(I'm forgetting if this really was how they referred to her) cupboard, the goats and their game (forgot the name),the farm and the nice red faced farmers and their apples, the secret hiding place in the manor that connects the cupboard in Nick's room (I think) to the drawing room downstairs, the map! The compass on Nick's watch, following the map, the property guy (again, I forgot the actual term), the hill, the innocent tricks to put the guy on a goose chase! The hiding place of the real map (GOD! I loved the hiding place, so clever), the very literal rule-following ;) the chase, the TREASURE and again a clever little trick ;) And then the jewels, the little antique shop owner, the BEJEWELED CUPS ERMEGERD I LOVED THEM THEY SEEMED JUST SO MAGNIFICENT AND MAJESTIC GAWD!!! I just absolutely adored this book. This is one of the books that made me want to write too, though I must admit, my book was more influenced my some of later reads, like the Famous five. But this story is my home, my safe corner, my cuddle-book, soft ad beautiful but definitely not boring, not a single boring moment, something is always happening. And again, the well mannered children are SUCH a delight to me. Now I'm going to look for an online version of this because whether or not I made you want to devour this book, I most certainly made me want to devour it again.
I think this is a very well written book by Enid Blyton as every part of the story are mysteries that would force you to continue reading rather than putting it down, thus i strongly recommend this book to everybody. This is a story about three children who were staying at their grandparents beautiful old manor house and when the children heard about the lost family treasure, and how it was hidden long ago, they are determined to find the treasure that could save the family estate from being sold. However, when one half of the map they have discovered was stolen by a bad guy who also wanted to get the treasure,it seems they're not the only ones who are looking for the treasure. Can the children solve the mystery and outwit their opponents in time to save Greylings Manor? If you want to know the next part of the story, borrow the book and start reading!
