Act of Submission

Rate this book
Haven Carey has given up everything to seek out the man responsible for her brother's death, but she gets a lot more than she bargained for when she comes face-to-face with the tall, dark, and delicious alpha. When her world is turned on its head, she soon discovers that nothing is as it appears to be.

Cat-shifting PSI-Operative Miles "Boomer" Walsh is the team loner for a reason—nothing and no one touches him. Not anymore. Except when a beautiful vixen shows up, claiming he murdered her brother, and tries to kill him. It's not the first time a female's tried to end him. But this time is different. Primal instinct demands his total surrender to whatever the woman has in mind…especially if that something includes a little pain mixed with pleasure.

I liked this book. Boomer is not your traditional shifter, he colors his hair, has a lot of piercings and is kind of closed off due to trauma in his past, but he is a good guy and is one of the PSI-Ops agents who is trying to protect humans from rogue immortals. He is not interested in a relationship, but when he meets Haven and knows that she is his mate, he is good to her and wants to protect her even though she came there to kill him, thinking he killed her brother. The story is good, though a bit short.

Boomer and Haven

This pair is somewhat unexpected but kinda fitting... 🤔 As Vampires are well known to be dark and kinda goth so it was a perfect to pair Haven to Boomer.. Though I was expecting more of Boomer's past here, it was just stated over a conversation... It would've been interesting to know what really happened for him to not like vampires..

And for my favorites, Lil Duke and Scar, I love love that they were included here and that they were given a special moment 😉 I also love the the banters between the Fang Gang and Boomer's team. Speaking of Fang Gang finally were able to meet at least one of them Auberi 🕴 and I hope we'll get to meet more of him and his team mates..

Overall the series felt rushed but you'll end up wanting more...
Soooo onto the next book in the Immortal Ops Universe 😳🙄😎😁

REVIEW:
The title and book description had me a little confused as I expected more than a light reference to BDSM. That being said, the sex was hot and the instant chemistry between them was nice. I loved the snarky banter between the teams and the offbeat humor throughout the story. The angle on the immediate danger posed by the enemy was well thought out and I enjoyed the little hint at things to come. It is a fun quick read that I wish was more fleshed out and a lot longer. There is so much that could have been added to an already fun read. I felt a little cheated.

Another great book by Mandy M Roth who once again brings a cast of strong characters centering around Boomer and Haven who have an amazing chemistry together. She brings tons of emotions and adds in the humor as she delivers another entertaining read. It's well written with detailed scenes , moves fluidly and is a great addition to the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Definitely a sex based story.......

Some books are Romances, some are stories that are action,or adventure, mystery, thriller etc. that just happen to have a romance in with the rest, a story with a romance some are a Romance with some story the best, well to me at least have a wonderful balance of both great interesting, gripping page turning story that never forgets that a) it's a romance and b) every great romance comes with an interesting story even if it's funny, silly, sad or maybe even a little lame ;)
But then there are plenty that try to act like and interesting story or romance but really are just an excuse for sex,not much to the story just lots sex... I wouldn't say that's what this was exactly,Coz in the beginning you have at least 3 chapters ( two of them consecutively where all we hear is the h babbling in her head to herself) ,but story was just ok, villain was a total perv. that made me wanna vomit, H had a sad and very tragic/sick ( what was done to him growing up was sick) but I feel if your gonna make a main characters back story soo twisted it should be something that is basically healed/sorted out after just a week of being mated... Either give him a less messed up back story? Or give him the story he deserves for true healing to take place...
A deeply emotionally scared H who doesn't get the story he deserves ( with a back story that made my stomach hurt) a sick twisted perverse villain ,and story that definitely felt sex driven ;(

Book: ACT OF SUBMISSION
Series: Immortal Ops; Psi Ops book 3
Author: Mandy M. Roth
Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance
rating: 4 stars out of 5

Boomer had a rough past that I couldn't wait to read about. Apparent goth bad bay Boomer was in fact living with the pain of his past. Besides Striker he is the one who had me puzzled in the previous books.
Haven grew up with the knowledge that she was different and something in her wanted to surface. She has lived with her brother's pain through all his shifts never allowing herself to embrace her inner nature.
Haven was set on a course to kill the one who took her brother's life. She ended up meeting her mate instead.

It was a great story to reconnect with the Psi Ops. When these bad boys fall for their mates they fall hard. Same happened to Boomer.
From the title I thought this book will have a shade of BDSM (I hoped it didn't) but in the end the story was about Boomer's submission to love and acceptance.
Great read again from Mandy Roth that I highly recommend.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

I’ve been waiting for Miles “Boomer’s” story to come along as I’m reading the Immortal Ops world in the author’s suggested reading order. This explosives expert has so much beneath the surface of goth clothing, and silver piercings than he will ever allow the world to see… and that includes his “brothers” within PSI Ops. While he will joke around, toss sass at his teammates, Boomer also keeps himself a bit distant – and finally, we get to understand why, and why perhaps he’s not going to change much once he’s found his mate but he will eventually, slowly allow his mate to heal his past with her acceptance and her love… but I’m getting ahead of myself.

First, we have to put Haven and Miles together, and that was done so subtly yet with the strength of a well-placed 2×4 to the head, and I loved how these two met and immediately had snark flowing between them.

Haven has finally tracked down the man she’s been told, and she believes killed her twin brother. It hasn’t been easy but now as she’s ready to storm the building where she knows the killer is something is off, she’s feeling an odd connection here that makes no sense – but odd feelings or not she’s about to take the life of the man who stole her brother from her with not one single regret. Except… nothing went according to plan, and facts will reveal something far different and more sinister than she could have ever imagined. And how in the world could this fiend be her mate? There is no way she’s the mate to a man like Miles Walsh… unless she’s been lied to, with a purpose, and she’s also just walked into a trap.

I enjoyed Act of Submission very much. Haven is intense, determined, and the chemistry between one stubborn woman and Miles is… explosive. We’ve known for some time that there are more secrets in Miles’ past than we were aware of and learning some of those secrets only made me enjoy this man even more. He’s been through hell and back… and survived, even when he had no desire to.

I adored Scar and that big cat’s attitude with Miles and Haven… and a far different stance with just about everyone else, except maybe Lil Duke, but who wouldn’t adore that tiny, mischievous tutu-wearing monkey?

The evil here is particularly sinister, and you’ll see why. I have a feeling we’re going to be dealing with this villain quite a bit in the future of this series. The action is fast-paced, intense and the lovin’ is steamy. Haven and Miles just work so well together, well, once they got that little misunderstanding out of the way. *wink* I had a blast, and that’s why I’m about to dive into the next story… to know what comes next.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

It was up to her to avenge her twin...

He preferred to keep people at arms length if not further there were very few exceptions Mercy Duke's new mate fell in that category after all her latest creation was a smashing hit.
Boomer knew people judged him by the way he looked and everything about him screamed shifty dude.
Now the poor animals that arrived at the animal facility deserved to weary of them.
Tonight was his turn to host his friends even though it kind of bothered a certain primate
But truthfully as much as he thought a certain person's mate was the cat's meow when it came to her craftiness it didn't extend to her culinary skills.
She was poor there was no getting around that fact however there were things she'd never do to change that fact.
At one time she had a twin a brother but now he was gone an she had every intentions of making those who robbed her pay and pay dearly for the never ending pain she felt.
Haven knew this had to be the place but as she quietly snooped around things didn't seem to add up she was starting to have major doubts and she didn't like that feeling nope not at all.
Apparently tonight wasn't her night and her plans blow up spectacularly one disaster after another until as she was losing consciousness she spotted a vision she was so sure had to be a hallucination.
However his friends were worried that he wasn't ready for the life changing event charging at him at warp speed.
Haven's world had been turned topsy turvy she knew she was different but never quite understood what she was until this moment.
Boomer had certain proclivities that needed to be fulfilled and pain was one of them.
There are moments in every males life when they get stuck in stupid mode and they need to be shown the error of their ways.
Unfortunately his sanctuary was being invaded by a hord of uninvited guest who were now wreaking havoc and they were after his treasure so nope he wasn't in the mood to be kind.

This is the first story in the "Immortal Ops: PSI-Ops" I have read. I loved it! It is a stand alone paranormal read with some connected characters. I really love the creativity this author shows in her story. It has a blend of shifter, vampire and more. I love the witty dialogue between the characters, especially the PSI-Ops team of brothers. Boomer/Miles and Haven are so perfect for each other. Boomer also known as Miles has had a rough upbringing. Now he care for other wounded and abused animals at his animal rehabilitation facility. Because of the abuse he received in his past he cannot stand to be touched and hates vampires even more. Haven knows not what she is but is on a mission to kill the person responsible for her twin brothers death. Boomer and some of his brothers in arms are getting together for a poker night at the rehab facility when they are attacked by Haven. The attraction between Haven and Miles is instant and unstoppable. There are a few grammatical errors in this story but it did not detract from the story. I picked up this one and could not put it down. I was glued and flipping pages. The story has fated mates finding each other, passion, suspense, murder, danger, action and great twists and turns. I cannot wait to go read the other stories in the series.

Miles ‘Boomer’ Walsh loved working with explosives and dresses like a Goth to keep people at a distance. But he’s a softie when it comes to animals, choosing to run an animal rescue and rehab facility in his spare time.

Haven Carey hates the IOps and PSI-Ops guys, blaming them for the murder of her twin brother. But when she meets them she realizes somethings off about her information, especially the one who she was told had killed him.

Thor is a werewolf, a general under Pierre the Master. He was created as part of a supernatural superior race to help the Master control the world. And he’s been told that IOps and PSI-Ops are the enemy and has orders to kill Haven. But he has doubts, wonders if he’s defective or being lied to.

I love the interaction with the animals, but I just scanned a lot of the teasing conversation stuff between the guys. Took way too much space from the story.

And these stories end waaay too soon. You just barely realize the actions over and boom they’re saying “I’ll love you forever. Me, too.” The end. I wanted to see her reaction when she found the stuff in her car was missing, her moving her stuff to Miles home, more about the animals, etc.

Fave scenes: Lil’ Duke’s hunting game, Haven & Scar the leopard, Thor’s final gift and Lil’ Duke’s t-shirt.

Interesting story with some unique ideas. Entertaining, but I just didn’t connect with the characters; especially female lead, Haven. She was just too dense for my liking; easily manipulated to make idiotic choices. Haven is out to kill panther shifter Miles/Boomer because she thinks he killed her brother, but things take a turn when things don’t go according to plan; Haven actually has flashes of common sense. There’s also the whole mate scenario going; the mates in this series edge more towards the animalistic side, it’s a very instant connection and very quick to sex. There is some sweetness between Miles and Haven; good passion too. The intimate scenes aren’t fully my thing; I prefer more heart, but they were good. Not into the Miles liking pain thing; especially since it’s because of his horrible childhood. There’s humor in this book, but also dark talk about things like rape and murder. Loved that Miles runs an animal rescue, and the bits of action. There’s some bad guys out to kill Miles’ team, and Haven is also in danger. Overall, I liked the read, and would like to continue the series. Not quite a fan of some of the humor from the guys, but I mostly like the guys.

Miles "Boomer" Walsh ... panther shifter, goth silver-wearing, how I adore thee. Boomer's past is BAD. Captain Corbin Jones rescued him and has helped Boomer heal from his past trama ... that involved vampires.

Haven Carey has trained to destroy the man who killed her brother, but things are NOT what the appear once she confronts Boomer. He was distracted by her scent, and goes in complete protection mode of her ... even as she's trying to kill him.

Once things calm down, Haven starts to realize she was lied to. Boomer's not the bad guy in all of this . Lil' Duke is a resident of Boomer's Animal Sanctuary, along with a damaged Panther named Scar ... who takes a liking to Haven.
There's a master vampire, who's created hybrids that most turn out defective. Missing I-Ops Lance makes an appearance, who goes by Thor ... but his programming seems to be fritzing out. He ends up helping when Haven's defective brother shows up to kill HER. Boomer has to come to terms with her DNA when she's injured and needs vampire ... turns out some of her DNA is Auberi's line from the Fang Gang (Crimson Ops) ... another spin off to come.
This book was such a bummer to me. I was really looking forward to it. In prior books Boomer seems to have a lot of depth based on an alluded to traumatic upbringing. Corbin is part of getting him out of his bad situation & he has issues with different kinds of supernaturals, etc... there’s so much potential for this to be a really interesting story with a lot of layers.
But NOPE
We got a book based on a formula, that is frankly at the point where I’d say she’s not even phoning it in on this book. I mean. I guess it’s fine. It wasn’t horrid. I finished reading it. But it was so disappointing. We really didn’t get anything about Boomer. A sentence that mentions something here & there was there was so much potential here. Just a full missed opportunity.
On a more positive note, the stories seem to pick again. So I did keep reading. I mean we’re all allowed to miss once in a while. (Just wish it had been someone else’s story. Duke’s maybe?) And in future books we’re getting tidbits about Boomer still. But obviously, we move on to other players.

Goth Kitty Fun

I’d waited for Boomer’s story eagerly - mostly because I love cats - like the other books in this series, we have various strands of Immortal or PSI Ops, soldiers created or born as shifters, who are after villains Involved in eugenics.
In this one, Haven is told that Boomer is the one who killed her twin brother Harper, though it turns out he didn’t, and has been set up.
She’s mid attack at his animal rescue home, when she’s subdued, finds out he’s innocent and her destined mate.
I liked the expansion of the worlds in this one, as Haven discovers she’s in fact part vampire and Auberi (Sentinal Ops) turns up to advise and help both her and Boomer.
She also happens to be a trainee vet, and falls in love with big bad panther Scar, who acts just like a cute kitty with her, and cross dressing chimpanzee ‘Lil Duke, who is adorable, and wants to protect her.

This book's got it all!

Action, betrayal, heartache, and happiness are just a few of the things this book has to offer. Haven is out to kill the man who viscously killed her brother. While Boomer hosts this week's poker night for his Psi-Op brothers. Guess who crashes the party? Not the strippers Striker was hoping for. Read the book to get in on the fun.

I absolutely love this book. The characters will tug at your heart, have you laughing so hard your sides will hurt, and want to hug them or stand up for them for all that they have been through.

I can't get enough of this series. I highly recommend it. Now I'm off to read the next one in the series. Thankfully, they are all on Kindle Unlimited so I can read them all without breaking my budget.

I love every one of these books! These "men" of Paranormal Security and Intelligence Team are hot, alpha, slightly crazy, and hilariously funny. The women they fall hopelessly in love with are slightly crazy themselves. The dialogue is hilarious at times, there is ton of action, steam, and when these guys fall, they are clueless about what is happening. Miles (Boomer) is a panther shifter who craves pain and cant stand to be touched. Haven thinks Boomer killed her brother so she wants revenge and is not afraid to die trying. The book is fast paced, laugh out loud funny at times, has tons of action, and steam. I love this series and can't wait to read more.

I read this book back when it was initially released and enjoyed it as much back then as I did now. Ms. Roth has shown a lot of improvement in her writing since then but it was still so good to reconnect with these characters. It felt like visiting with someone that I had not seen in so long and prepared to sit down for a nice long chat. Haven and Miles (Boomer) are one of my favorite couples from the series and I really liked being able to read the story of their romance once again. If this series is unfamiliar to you, do take the time to read all of the books as you will be passing up on an opportunity for some vintage Mandy M. Roth stories if you do not.

A smidge more info yay

This series integrates, like, 3-4 series. Shifters, vampires, fae all kind of working together while hiding their inhumanity. It's fun to see the characters popping over from their dedicated series! And the friendly rivalry when the Fang Gang visits is so much fun.

Another good thing was the male MC, whose quirks made him stand out from most of the other male leads. I wish they'd played more with his masochism, but the female lead seemed to accept it more as the result of trauma and self-hate than a personal kink. Eh.

I gave extra stars anyway for all the animal shenanigans!

WONDERFUL!!

I've been waiting for Boomer's book FOREVER! Of all the PSI Ops warriors, Miles is perhaps one of my favorites: tall, dark and handsome, the silver pierced Goth shifter, addicted to pain. He comes across as anti-social however, he has reason to be after surviving an incredibly abusive childhood. What he is now is an adult Panther shifter: stronger, faster and more capable than anything or anyone Haven has ever seen. The problem is Haven believes Boomer/Miles killed her brother, and now she has to kill him, only it might not be as easy as she thinks, especially if he is her mate....

Act of Submission (Immortal Ops: PSI-Ops #3) has it all from action and danger, drama and betrayal, loss and heartache. This is probably one of my favourites and I absolutely loved it. At the same time your heart is breaking it is also full of laughter. These hot alpha males are just to die for and funny as all get out.

Evil has gotten under her skin and twisted her mind, so Haven is after the man who killed her brother. Now she has him in her sights nothing is as it seems. Boomer is in his sanctuary and it’s his turn for poker night. So, when an unknown female turns up things get deadly and confusing.

I can't get enough of these paranormal stories Mandy gives us.

Now we have Boomer's story & what a story it is.
He has led a truly lonely existence that ends with his meeting Haven who intends on killing him for the death of her twin, along with his entire team. Along the way we touch base with Duke, Corbin, Striker and can't forget Lil' Duke with his crown and pink attire. Of course there's violence and a necessary death, a hope of salvation and a promise of future life. This is just a great addition to a marvelous series. Though I received an ARC from Booksprout I have read this book back in 1995 but (I'm bad) I didn't leave a review on Goodreads at that time.

★ Very entertaining paranormal world to delve into ★

—>>> Not having read this PSI-Op series yet, I hopped into Boomer and Haven’s story and enjoyed all the characters, especially the real beasties Scar and Lil’ Duke. A source sends Haven on her path of revenge for her brother’s cruel death, to hunt down the stone-cold murderer named “Boomer” responsible for dealing the killing blow. But when she came face to face finally with her target, she found herself unable to do so. What she learns next is incredible, and her whole world suddenly expands beyond what she knows as a mere vet. Very entertaining paranormal world to delve into!

Boomer loves hunting as much a good...explosion, but being hunted adds another level.

This is Miles "Boomer" Walsh & Haven Carey story. I really love Boomer and love his fated mate story. Of course it's complicated and explosive. Haven is an interesting character whose backstory you might figure out, but will enjoy the journey.

I like that regardless of which series or book you start with you never feel completely lost or confused. More often you're interested in reading the books you missed, or the companion series.

Looking forward to the next book.

Here Kitty Kitty 😉

I thought this book was fantastic! Haven is just the kind of feisty woman that Boomer needs in his life. I loved reading their interactions, and they had some wild chemistry. This series is well written, flows well, and is full of action, romance, passion, and humor. With this series, it truly is best to start at the beginning to get the full affect, and truly understand the back ground and what is going on. Can’t wait for more!

These stories are a combination of romance, mystery, detective, and paranormal stories with wonderful world building and characters. In this particular story, Haven is searching for her brother's killers and is willing to do what it takes to find them even after being given bad intel. The story kept me on my toes the first time I read it when I purchased it five years ago and when I read it again this week. The plot is sometimes witty, sometimes gritty, and sometimes pretty steamy. I did not notice any major writing or grammar issues. Good story.
