A Little Bit In Love

Rate this book
After losing her birth parents and her adopted parents Alexis Mabry is used to being alone. So after a year of horrible dates with everyone from sugar baby wannabes to cross dressers, she decides to stop dating altogether and focus on what matters most: her business and her friends in Mustang Prairie.

When she meets a handsome stranger on a trip to California she starts to wonder if its time to get back in the game.

Baxter Thompsen spent the last decade building his empire to the exclusion of everything but sex. Now tired of the socialites and starlets, he wants someone real. When he does she only wants a vacation fling and it's up to Baxter to show her that lust is great, but love is the real prize.

Is it lust or are Baxter and Alex more than a little bit in love?

(Also writes under the pen name Natasha Jackson).

Hey I'm Natasha and I love stories. I love to read them, to watch them and most of all I love to wrtie them. I find people endlessly fascinating and frustrating, which makes for the most interesting stories!

I also love politics and true crime so in addition to writing romance, I also write political satire & thrillers. It has been my dream to make a living as a writer since I was a kid and got lost in Judy Blume, The Babysitter's Club and Sweet Valley High (is my age showing?!?!). When I'm not writing I can be found engaging in one-sided conversations with Rachel Maddow, singing very loudly very badly and trying out new cuisines from around the world.

I love to laugh, I gave my husband a sappy pet name and I think answers to most of life's dilemma's can be found in an episode of Dawson's Creek.

My first series, Mustang Prairie, is small town romance because I feel they offer a variety of fun characters whose lives are interconnected. It is based loosely on my college town, which was the smallest town I've ever lived in...Go Panthers!

After her decidedly final disastrous first date, Alexis Mabry is through with men. But that's okay! Because she's got a successful business, an awesome best friend, and a lovely home town where everyone knows her name. What more could a girl want?

Enter: Tall, dark, handsome, wealthy, too-deliciously-desirable-for-his-own-good Gorgeous Baxter.

Too bad Alexis has just declared herself on dating hiatus!

Will these two be able to resist the undeniable attraction growing between them? And will their relationship survive when jealousy, distance, business and just plain stubbornness get in the way?

A Little Bit In Love stars an endearing cast of characters, the kind of girlfriends that will take you out lingerie shopping just to cheer you up, and eccentric neighbors that will have you laughing out loud:

"Speaking of penises..."
"No one said anything about penises, Luna."

The heroine is strong, independent, albeit a little burned from her past, which is something we can all relate to. Gorgeous Baxter is a bit of a playboy, but the way he mans up and earns her trust in the end makes this the kind of romance I love to read!

Sexy, sassy, fun :]

Before we go to far I really want to thank N. D. Jackson for such a KICK ASS heroine! Thank you!!

Phew, got that out of my system, so let's get to crackin'.

A Little Bit in Love is a great showcase of a woman who is not only capable of taking care of her self, but determined to do so. Alexis doesn't need a man - but deep down she wants one. So she suffers through horrible - yet hilarious dates - trying to find some sort of spark with someone. Taking a much needed break from business, Alexis goes to California to visit her friend Shelly and mmm, mmm, mmm, yumminess ensues.

Baxter is friends with Noel (Shelly's fiance) and ends up being cast in the latest version of Shelly & Noel's "Love Connection" with an introduction to Alexis. Ladies, Baxter is yummy, nom-able, holy hotness. No. Joke. He feels a connection with Alexis (as she does with him) and they agree to see what happens in the short time Alexis is in town.

At one point I was using my Jedi Mind Powers to try as make Alexis do what I wanted her to do. And guess what?! IT WORKED!! I did a happy dance :)

It was great to have two characters that you could really root for while you watched them come together, struggle with circumstance, and grow as a couple but also as individuals. The initial spark was amazing, too. You immediately love this couple and want them to make it, but when sh*t hits the fan, you get upset right along with the character. And don't read into this. BOTH Baxter and Alexis do things that create conflict, I am not hating on my man Bax. And what fun is a romance novel without conflict? Not much. Not much at all.

On a side note, normally I do not discuss formatting. It's an ARC, sh*t isn't always perfect. But in this case I think it's important. Even with some flaws in the formatting (which i was in the second version where fixed so don't worry you book will be perfect!) I could not stop reading this book. That says a lot. It took me a few chapters to get the flow, but once I did I sucked this book down like it was nobody's business.

So do the clickity-oneclick and grab A Little Bit In Love right now!

A Little Bit In Love (Mustang Prairie #2) by N D Jackson

Alexis, a successful business woman, has sworn off men and relationships after a string of failed dates but when she meets Baxter on a trip to California she rethinks her decision.

Baxter is tall, dark, handsome and rich, perfect boyfriend material for most people, but Alexis doesn’t like rich men and the social scene that goes with them. Unfortunately for her she is highly attracted to Baxter and can’t resist his charm. When the pair begin to date things don’t run smoothly, she tries to convince herself their connection is purely physical but the jealousy she feels when he gets attention from other women tells a different story.

This is a romance with two equals, both Alexis and Baxter are successful in their business ventures and have money of their own. I liked the fact that she was a strong and independent woman who wasn’t swept off her feet by a man for his wealth, but she did have a tendency to be a little annoying, she could be so touchy sometimes and was definitely over sensitive to comments.

Overall I enjoyed the story, it is what it is, a romance, so you know exactly what you’re getting when you begin. I recommend this read to lovers of the genre.

I read this straight after reading Conflict of Interest. They are stand-alones but I think to truly fall in love with the story, as I did, you need to read them in order.
I liked Alex in the Mustang Prairie book and I adore her now that i have read her story.
Gorgeous Baxter is exactly that, gorgeous and rich, and a playboy.
This story is so brilliantly written that i fell straight into their world and felt every emotion that the characters went through.

Spoilers!

What's it all about:
Alexis is one who has always seemed to be alone, from losing her birth parents, to losing her adoptive parents. She has learned to live life with out the help of anyone else. When she visits her best friend in L.A., the last thing she expects or even wants is a man in her life. Alex has been with the rich type of men who think they can control and buy everything to make it better, and that’s not something she wants. Baxter seems like a good guy, but he will have to prove to Alex that he isn’t the typical rich man that she is used to; granted he isn’t like many rich men. With many mistakes and wrong assumptions Baxter seems to dig himself deeper into Alex’s hole, and hold. Will either one of them be able to make it out unscathed, or will they forever be apart of an unending feud.

The Best Parts:
So there was a lot that I loved about this book. The characters from the first book came rearing back which helped place the actions that were going to happen in the book, but I also loved the introduction to some new characters that added so much more to the series. The plot line worked well for having seen previously just how Alex is with men, but I never expected her to be the runner since she harped so much on Shellie about it. One thing that really helped when reading this is that after every major decision or action that was taken in the book there was an explanation for it form the character. It allowed us to see into their thought process for why they were doing what they were doing. This allowed for great flow throughout the novel. Also, the sex scenes were pretty amazing. I knew from the first book they were going to be good, but my goodness. I felt flushed from reading most of the scenes; I guess that’s what you get when two strong headed characters have sex, there’s so much dominance in one bed!

The Worst Parts:
Now there isn’t anything that I truly didn’t like about this book, but there was one thing that bother me a few times through this book. I understand from the first book that the men have a lot more faults than most men in romance novels. That creates a realistic man and I love it, but in the one it seemed that Bater could NEVER do or say that right thing, but Alex NEVER corrected him. She just let him be wrong. It frustrated me because if it really made her that mad then she should have vocalized it more to him what he had done wrong. She accused him so much of playing games that she never realized that she was playing the biggest game of all. She set him up to fail every time, and never gave him the benefit of the doubt. As much as I wanted to slap Baxter for being stupid sometimes, I wanted to slap Alex for being more of idiot than Baxter was.

Final thoughts:
I was given this series to read in exchange for honest reviews and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. This series is a great New Age/Contemporary Adult Romance series. It captures the struggle with real people, and the sexual tension that seems to build within all of us. I loved that these stories didn’t just focus on the sex, but the relationship itself as well. Both books are on kindle for $2.99 and I recommend it for ages 18+ for mature content. The works are in for a book 3 and I can’t wait till it releases!

-CONTAINS SPOILERS-

I loooooooved this story. More than the first one, too! Baxter was charming, sweet, ambitious, sexy, smart and domineering in all the right ways. I loved reading about his adoration for Alex, and his relationship with his mom was something so cute and special. Alex was an awesome character. At times I did get annoyed with her for always jumping the gun and never staying to listen to what Baxter had to say, but then again I understood she had a bad relationship in the past. We (and Baxter) never did learn a lot about that relationship, and it was mentioned a few times about how horrible it was. I was also confused because in the first book it was Alex who was preaching love to Shellie when Shellie was holding herself back from loving Noel, and Alexis was always saying to take chances and whatnot; she was a bit hypocritical. With that being said, I thought it was awesome that Alex was so independent and determined. She was witty, intelligent, sexy, goofy and kind-hearted. I really enjoyed watching Baxter and Alex overcome so many struggles. And the angst I experienced while waiting to see what would happen when Baxter discovered Alex was LexCorp had me on fire. I loved the pregnancy, too, and I'm SO GLAD we got to see some of the pregnancy. Most books I read just say the girl ends up pregnant and then it skips to 6-9 months later and we miss out on all of the pregnancy. I loved watching Baxter dote over pregnant Alex and I loved his belly kisses and rubs, and when he held her hair back for her when she was dealing with morning sickness — it was so sweet. Seeing Shellie and Noel so much made me happy and I'm glad they were so involved in the story. I could really see how all the characters in this book were like a big family and it was heartwarming. Awesome book!

A sweet romantic story with suspense hidden all through it. Alexis Mabry is a successful lady with disastrous love life. She is also someone who is not fond of showing off wealth. So when she comes across Baxter who is super rich too, but does not show off, she is confused. The story takes us through the lives of two people who are perfect for each other, only if they manage to overcome the immense wealth that is between them.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The plot and the characters were well described. The story was making sense all through it. The chemistry between Alexis and Baxter is envious and dreamy. As much a perfect love story as it is possible. The couple from the previous book also plays a good role in this book. So those who are following the series will enjoy the second book more because of the good continuity in it.

However, one thing was entirely left out, which was the reason for Alexis' distaste for successful men. There were some reference to her past love life, but it was not entirely explained. That left an empty and incomplete feeling at then end of the story. I am assuming it must be because it is a part of the series and I started reading from #2. However, all the websites suggest all the books in the series as stand alone and as having different stories. But, even though everything else was perfect, the incompleteness of the story left a bad taste when it came to an end.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review:

A Little Bit in Love is the second book in the Mustang Prairie Series by N.D. Jackson. Jackson’s first book is Conflict of Interest. You do not have to read Conflict of Interest in order to read A Little Bit in Love- however, I’d strongly suggest that you do, but note they are written as standalones. A Little Bit in Love is about Alexis- small town business entrepreneur who has been on a series of the worst dates imaginable and Baxter, business extraordinaire who is over the socialites and models that have been gracing his presence for the last several years. One of things I loved most about this book was the humor in which the author wrote with. Immediately within the first few chapters, I was laughing myself stupid from the things she had written. Her comedic presence sucked me right into this story. Now, this story wasn’t just funny, it was also sexy as hell. Jackson did not hold back when she wrote Baxter. He is everything most women want in a man, rich, sexy, good in bed, and did I mention rich? Alexis is not most women. She prides herself on her independence, her business sense, and her spunk. This is a story of two people on equal footing adjusting their focus on life and taking a chance. Might I add, it’s a great story! Take a chance yourself by reading this author and laughing with, falling for, and rooting for these two characters. Enjoy!

I hope Mustang Prairie is real because I want to move their right now!

Alexis Mabry is done with love and dating. She has friends in Mustang Prairie, her business, and is happy to concentrate on them instead. Baxter Thompson has always been all about business and his success speaks to his was all about business and had his share of the dating scene as well. A chance meeting has both of them pondering their choices and wondering what could be. One determined to keep it light and another ready to settle down, would they both end up winning the battle?

"Alex was all fire and spunk and jagged edges. She didn’t shy away from confrontation, she faced it head on. That’s why he was so crazy about her."

Alex is all that and more. She is funny, driven and, despite her success, unsure in love. Baxter is completely smitten and is determined to break down any barriers Alex puts up. This is the second book in the series and familiar faces are back as new characters are introduced. As in the first instalment, humour is a huge part of the story and had me laughing at loud at times. I also found myself really investing in Alex and Baxter. Hearing their struggles in their own voices brought things that much more to life. If I liked Mustang Prairie before I love it now. Bring on Sadie’s story!

This is the 2nd book in the Mustang Prairie series and the 2nd book that I've read by this author......
I absolutely loved the first book in the series and this 2nd one is just as good...... We follow the story of Alexis, who is the best friend of Shellie who we meet in book 1....... Alexis has had a tough childhood with loosing both her parents in a fire at the age of 4...... she is adopted by a "famous couple" and had a wonderful life growing up.......... she has been on so many terrible dates that she decides to giveup on men and love....she is a very successful business women....... she goes to California to spend time with Shellie and her boyfriend Noel..........
Enter Baxter Thompsen, who is a hot, sexy good looking rich guy who is also friends with Noel....... Shellie meets Baxter when at an event with Noel and instantly thinks she would love to fix up her best friend, Alexis with this handsome sexy Baxter.....
We follow the story of Baxter and Alexis...... there are lots of twists and turns........ this is another fantastic story and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.... I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series........
I received an ARC from the Author for an honest review...... this did not affect my views of this book in anyway...

Alexis has her defenses up due to loser-dude dates, who is picking these guys? Road trip! Time to visit her bff and take care of a little business. Baxter is seriously clueless when it comes to sticking his foot in his mouth and keeping it there. He is also adorable because he is clueless. Unfortunately he keeps ticking Alexis off.

Natasha Jackson 's "A Mustang Prairie" series is promising to be an awesome set of stand alone stories about people with connections in Mustang Prairie, Ill. I read both "A Little Bit in Love" and "Conflict of Interest" and I cannot honestly tell you which book I liked the best. While they do not have to be read in order, "Conflict of Interest" is book 1 and sets up the relationship between Alexis and Shellie, best friends since forever. I read them backwards and it didn't hurt book 2 at all. Spoilers were revealed, however.. Natasha has a great way with words and I love the spunk and humor in her books.

-Insert happy sigh here-

I read this interconnected standalone without having read the first one (but am very curious about Shellie and Noel's story after having read about Alexis and Baxter) and really, really liked it!

The plot is straightforward enough, Alexis goes to visit her best friend in Mustang Prairie for a break after a string of awful dates, bumps into best friend's fiancé's friend and there is an instant attraction, and thus the romantic entanglements begin.

This book had everything I look for in Small Town romance books; a hero who knows what he wants, a heroine who is funny, has her own mind, is self-sufficient and likeable and a some very amusing secondary characters.

The story is well paced and well written. And I loved the dialogue between the two main characters and their best friends. The book is funny and sweet, and the sex scenes were very steamy.

Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to Mustang Prairie and am looking forward to my next trip there...

Alexis Mabry has sworn off men, her last date was a disaster. She left him sitting in a restaurant, when she gets home she calls her bestie Shellie and decides she needs to get away for a visit to L.A., and Shellie. Shellie while awaiting Alexis arrival goes to a Charity function with her Fiancé Noel. Noel reconnects with his friend Baxter Thompson, Shellie and Noel make dinner plans with Baxter for Friday nite. All before knowing that Alexis who has know sworn off men is coming to visit.
Baxter's and Alexis first meeting starts off well enough, and they make plans to meet again, but during there outing Baxter says the wrong thing and Alexis is discouraged and it all goes sour. I found this book interesting because it was Baxter that had to do most of the work to convince Alexis that she needed him not the reverse.
FYI this is a standalone, but I suggest you read book 1, there are repeat characters.

This book starts off with a disastrous date which results in Alex swearing off men forever, and of course whenever you decide to swear off men, a gorgeous and tempting one is laid in your path. Alex tries to resist "Gorgeous Baxter" but struggles with the attraction between them. They have some seriously witty banter along with some steamy scenes which provide for great reading.

I really loved how Alex was smart and successful in her own right, as well as being fiercely independent. I also loved the relationship she had with her best friend, Shellie. Its always refreshing to read a book that places importance on a female relationship as well as a romantic one. I found their banter hilarious as well and found them to be really likeable characters.

A Little Bit in Love is a fun read, which is entertaining and leaves you with a smile on your face when you have finished it.

I love both of these main characters. They are both so strong and independent but it's amazing what a little bit of love can do to make you bend. I really enjoyed the main characters interactions but I think I love their relationships with their friends and family more. I know that's weird but the author knows how to weave people together to create a very real relationship that makes you wish you could either be their friend, girlfriend or family member. This is definitely a HEA ending and that's just what I needed for this book. Definite good read.

Wow! Another home run for Mustang Prairie!! I love this series. The banter between Alexis and Baxter is electrifying and getting to visit the inhabitants of Mustang Prairie again makes this a sure fire hit!
N.D. Jackson brings on the heat as well in the second book in the series. The sexual tension practical leaps off the page.

Congrats N. D. You've done it again!

I love Alex & Baxter. Alexis is sassy and sexy and her description of Baxter as "funny, kind, sweet, arrogant, gorgeous" describes him perfectly. This is a fun love story. N.D. Jackson has an easy writing style that makes her characters real and the story flow seamlessly. I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Little Bit in Love and I definitely loved the surprise at the end.
