Um wow

Warning, ends on cliffhanger! I am not going to lie, I thought this book was going to be cheesy. It so was not. The different POV helped keep everything moving and made it an awesome quick read. Now I need book 2.

Okay… this book had me sitting like “I’m just going to read a few chapters” and then suddenly it was hours later and my Kindle was basically telling me I needed help. I devoured this story in one sitting because I needed to know what was going to happen next. Ruby broke my heart. This girl has been through SO much and there were moments where I just wanted to jump into the book, wrap her in a blanket and tell her everything was going to be okay. Her pain felt real and I loved watching her slowly find her strength.

The love triangle between Ruby, Chris and Kevin definitely kept things interesting. I really liked Chris, but I’m going to be honest… my little romance loving heart wanted MORE yearning in the beginning. Give me the awkward tension, the stolen looks, the “I shouldn’t want you but I do” moments! The romance moved pretty fast, but surprisingly, I wasn’t mad because the story kept me hooked.

The storyline with Ruby’s mom hit hard. I wish we had gotten more time exploring that relationship because there was so much emotion there. It felt like such an important part of Ruby’s story that I wanted to sit with it longer. And then we have Adam… oh Adam. This man had me confused because I didn’t know whether to side eye him or understand him. He was definitely not the perfect mysterious guy coming in to save the day. He was complicated, messy and honestly one of the characters that made me keep turning pages.

That ending though?! Excuse me, Misty Rose?! I thought we were getting a little peace after everything Ruby went through, but nope… apparently we needed one more emotional roller coaster before closing the book. That final moment had me needing answers because there is NO WAY I’m not curious about what happens next. I really enjoyed this book. It’s emotional, dramatic, fast paced and full of characters who make you want to yell at them and hug them at the same time.

Trigger warnings: This book deals with heavy topics, so definitely check those before reading.
