While the edition I have, has a Presents cover, this book did not read like a HP. Overall an okay story but it did drag along in some bits. For a supposed prodigy, Remy grated on my nerves on more than a few occasions. Bo was too hung up on his late wife who, by his own admission, was insecure, clingy and manipulative (she witheld her choice of not wanting kids till after the wedding!) For an intelligent man, that was rather stupid. Overall, average.

This one was quite a surprise! It’s my first Joss Wood book and I stayed away from the reviews and just dove in.
I adored the characters! Remy is a brilliant IT expert who had a high powered NYC job that burned her out and gave her an ulcer within a year. (NY will do that to a girl)
She has a mum who takes pride in her daughter’s brain and what she can do, but not who she is. This has left Remy with all sorts of hang-ups.
Bo is a widower who is still hung up in the ideal of his dead wife. He has unemotional hook-ups with a few women he has on speed dial because they know what he is looking for. Then he meets Remy, they have an amazing one night stand and it turns into “hey, I’m pregnant and the baby is yours”.
What I loved most about these two characters is the reality of their relationship. Their interactions with each other. The sexual tension, the constant bickering, the struggle to try to make it work for the sake of their babies, but scared to allow themselves to become too attached.
Bo’s insistence that he still loved his wife and no one could replace her did become annoying after a while. Yeah, we got it dude. She was perfect in your flawed memories of her, and you’re allowed that, but dude, she’s gone! Let go already.
I enjoyed this book much, much more than I expected to. It was my “hidden treasure” find for the day. Go give it a shot, you may love it too.

Quite honestly, the epilogue of this book was pretty cute and almost made me forget how much skimming I'd done the rest of the book. But I did wind up remembering. I skimmed and skipped because the story was so slow moving at times, and nothing was really happening.

Remy (strange name for a girl ,usually French male name) grew up with a feminist mother and a grandmother. Jan had her at 17 .Now, at 44, she has a husband ten years younger and is about to have her second child.
Remy was a child prodigy, had her PhD in computer science at 20 , worked in a big company for several years.Then she got a burn out ,was exhausted and landed in a hospital. So Remy quit her job and went globe-trotting, learning to cook along the way.Now she is in California's wine coiuntry, on her way to Jan's.She stops in a small town of Belleview and meets a local, Robert , called Bo. They spend the night together and part their ways.
Six weeks later. Remy is still at Jan's.She has a baby brother now, Callum , and hopes h ,coiue'll be just a normal boy.Jan is disappointed in her daughter, thinks Remy doesn't use her potential .Remy is pregnant and travels back to California to tell Bo.
She encounters Elijah (Eli) and Ginny, cousins, who want to open a family cafe.Remy offers them advise + to cook sample meals. Enter Bo -Ginny's brother.He is surprised to see Remy, who faints from dehydration and no food.He brings the young woman to the hospital. She blurts about pregnancy.Then both get a surprise- she is expecting twins !
Bo is a widower. His wife Ana was killed riding her motorbike in the rain.
Remy plans to be a single mother, but Bo has other ideas...

Remy planned to fly into town, tell Bo he would be a father, and leave again. That didn't happen when Remy had all day sickness due to the pregnancy. She was a very independent person. At times I found it to be annoying. Instead of saying thank you to Bo for his help, she fought with him. He had his own issues. He never got over the death of his first wife. The more time Remy spent with Bo, the more she fell in love with him. That was not suppose to be part of the plan. She felt like she was competing against a ghost. Can Bo ever let go of the past, and take a chance on a future?
I didn't like this book like I had hoped I would. The story didn't hold my attention. I did finish it. The plot, and characters didn't pull me into the story line. Not sure why, it just wasn't one of my favorite books.

Gewoon een ontspannend verhaal waar je niet veel bij hoeft na te denken. Leuk als tussendoortje. Er mocht gerust nog wat meer geschreven worden. Nog wat meer details uitgewerkt.

I have incredibly mixed feelings about this book. It's well written, and the author has a distinct and original voice; there's some clever and witty dialogue, and it has a great premise. I loved the honesty of the discussions about the dilemma they both faced. However, it really dragged in places and I skimmed paragraphs at a time to move things along. Far too much introspection by Bo in particular, and the dead wife sounded awful. I couldn't figure why Bo would still love her so obsessively.
I found the characters a little hard to believe in. The biggest negative for me was Remy, who I found to be an irritatingly prickly, aggressive young woman. Why tell Bo he was a father if she wasn't prepared for him to be involved? Why was she so unpleasant and rude and behaving like an angry teenager?
As for Bo - (and please who on earth would think of calling a man - 'Bo?' (I kept thinking of sheep every time I saw it on the page!)
His feelings for his wife became altogether too ridiculous. If he was truly as 'in love' with Ana and intending to love her forever, then having sex - even unemotional hookups - just seemed ludicrous to me as he was (in his eyes) being unfaithful, surely?
I enjoyed parts of this a lot and the epilogue was lovely.

Some discrepancies in the plot points as the references made in the first chapters contradicts what we learn mid way in terms of h's career and H's late wife etc.,

This had potential but it failed to meet it. The man clung to his false impression of his former marriage for far too long, held on to that supposed pure and perfect love. It wasn't romantic, it was delusional.
I sincerely disliked the anti-intellectualism of the story. That paired with the babysplosion is not a good look.
I did not believe that the two of them could have a good relationship or that they could love each other. They spent months and months around each other and barely got to know each other. It was a wasted opportunity to show them growing together.
Also, this was set in the US and supposedly the characters were American but they said things like "fish and chips" and "estate agents" which are not what Americans call them.

I enjoyed this book. The heroine was relatable and the hero was sympathetic. It's an endearing story.

Strength in numbers
Heroine is super smart BUT with a generous side of emotions. Hero struggles to be multi dimensional beyond bounds of his previous relationship. Can he love her as more than a vehicle for his children? Not without some fine getting to know you moments and then there's the fact that she doesn't need to depend on him to make decisions or for money. A lot of life in too few pages, but a good read leaving you with a good feeling.

This was better than I expected. I actually liked the characters and found them to be so different from the usual Presents heros and heroines. I liked the development of their relationship and the supporting characters. It was a surprisingly enjoyable read.
