After coming to the hard hitting realisation that I had surrounded myself with lies throughout my life, it was difficult to accept and forgive myself, questions of why, how and second thinking my morality and compassionate qualities as a person surfaced. I picked this short book for quite an obvious reason, the title of the book. The introduction was the hard hitting truth that I needed, not only to help accept that I had traits of a pathological liar, but also helped me to understand where it came from and to not associate myself with the term 'liar' but understand that it had become a habitual thing that I had used as a tool as a child which I unfortunately held onto going into my adult life, even if it no longer served me.

I think that was the most profound part of the book, knowing that it was a habit... a habit of my 29 years, and fortunately habits can be broken... forgiveness is also key...

Lincoln then goes onto describing the different types of help you can get through Psychotherapy, different techniques that are available out there, then he touches on some simple yet beautiful everyday mantras and tasks/ self talk you can do in order to rewire your brain to not default to the bad habit of lying. One very beautiful and vulnerable one that i would like to share: If you feel that in the moment you are about to lie, you start to feel the urge/ avoidance/ grandiosity in you surfacing as you are speaking to another person... you can simply say "Can I please answer this question in due time, i feel that at this present moment I am not strong enough to be honest and vulnerable with you, and I don't want to lie, I will come and approach you with my honest answer once I can show myself without fear". Beautiful! xox

At first the book was making some good key points. It explained the difference between compulsive and pathological liars BUT then completely changed the tone and called everyone a pathological liar. I disagree with the terms being interchangeable and as did the author who stated in the beginning they were similar but two separate things. The techniques were not particularly helpful as a lot of it required a therapist or someone experienced in the subject. Overall, the book is okay and again had some good points in the beginning but I don’t think I’ll be recommending it to anyone looking for information.

Excellent, succinct guidebook

This is a short and incisive guide which can concentrate the minds of therapists and sufferers to explore further the problem of habitual compulsive /pathological lying. It is particularly notable for skilfully reframing the problem as an addiction, not a question of morality. He omits to mention hypnotherapy and NLP which, combined with CBT , can speed up the rewiring of the brain considerably

Very educational, though I just skimmed through it the first time. The information I got out of it was very useful and I’m going back to reread and do some note taking

This book has helped me a lot, after reading I decided to go to Amazon and get "How to Stop Lying Workbook" by Greg Smith.

Both of them have reshaped my lying life to a more honesty life.

Helpful

simple but interesting. I found myself re reading chapter 7 quite often. Could've have been more in depth on remedy than building case against lying

I read this because he managed to convince me that I was a pathological liar, and I was so far down the rabbit hole that I actually believed him, even though I knew I wasn't.
