I have no idea what to write about. Mr. Richard's wants us to write about our summer experiences. To me, that idea sounded extremely boring. Everyone's first journal entry was going to be exactly the same (pool parties, ice cream, and staying up late). Writing about my summer experiences wouldn't show off my creativity and amazing talent. No offense Mr. Richards but I have decided to choose my own topic. My journal entry will be a story including adventure, love, and heartache. It starts with my first day at a school in the 8th grade and how everything went crazy the moment I walked through the main doors...
I gave it a shot, but I didn't like "Groundhog Day" and I can't make it through this book. I got about 40% through and just couldn't read one more repeated day.
It definitely has the voice of an 8th grade boy, but some editing wouldn't hurt due to a few spelling issues and inconsistencies with the main character's name. I'm willing to overlook some of the overwritten tone and grammatical points due to the style. Unfortunately I don't feel like I can recommend this one unless you really like to read the same day over and over with a few minor changes here and there.
Its Spencer Clark’s first day of the 8th grade and he and his class are asked to write a journal about their summer experiences. Spencer is a little put out. How on earth can he show off his amazing writing skills with this lame topic?
“It was official, I was about to begin writing the worst journal ever.”
Spencer decides he will put his own spin on the journal by telling a different story. With a lot of sarcasm and 8th grade humor, Spencer Clark tells his fantastical version of the first day at a new school ala Groundhog Day, rehashing the same day over and over with the most popular girl by his side.
I bought this book for .99 cents from Amazon at the author’s urging. I personally wasn’t at all enthused about the story line of this book. There was no depth here and it all seemed rather unoriginal and juvenile to me. I did finish it because it’s a quick read and I don’t do DNFs often. I’m sure it might be entertaining to another 8th grader, just not my cup of tea. Now if Spencer Clark is actually an 8th grader then I might have to reevaluate the quality of the writing. I’m just not clear whether that is the case. As Spencer would say:
Possibly the funniest book I have ever read! I loved everything about it from the characters to the story to the humor. In the story, Spencer Clark is an 8th grader battling a ridiculous first day of school. He finds himself on the bad side of his principal and no matter what he does he can't keep himself from getting into trouble. Spencer is witty and a little bit overboard, which is exactly why he has his eyes set on the prettiest girl in the 8th grade, Sally. The story is fun from beginning to end and you will enjoy every minute of it!
This book definitely surprised me in a good way! It was a fun read and I laughed out loud throughout the book. The story is about Spencer Clark, a 8th grader, and his adventurous first day at a new school. At first he thinks it's going to be an ordinary first day, but after running into some trouble with his new principal things take a very interesting turn. He writes about his experiences in a journal and does so in a very funny way!
I wasn't crazy about the style of writing and I felt the characters lacked development throughout the book. It was a quick read as I zipped through it in an afternoon, but it won't be finding itself on my list of favorites. I found it difficult to like the main character due to how off topic and off track he continued to get it. The book has its funny moments, but other than that it wasn't much for me.
This book was more so funny if anything it was very engaging and really helped to get me out of my read slump. I laughed a lot and it really was easy for me to see the characters and events playing out in my head. This book is very descriptive and fast paced it's a quick read and not a disappointment. Spencer does a great job at bringing the reader along on this day to journal entry which without fail makes me what a good time I had.
I went into reading this book with low expectations as I was just looking for something to read. After starting, I couldn't put it down and finished the story very quickly. It's a fun read and I was surprised to find myself laughing a ton. Spencer Clark's writing is humorous and creative which makes this a fun book for people of all ages.
After a few pages I wasn't sure what to think about this book. I kept reading and I'm glad that I did. The story was fun, creative, and hilarious. It's fun to see how Spencer handles his first day and I really enjoy the way the story was told. It's a must read regardless of age!
This book is amazing! I really only had one problem with it and that's the book was too short! I look forward to reading more from Spencer Clark in the future!
Spencer Clark can be a little ridiculous, out of control, and crazy at times but I found this book to be truly enjoyable. It has a different style and feel than what I am used to (lover of mystery), but I picked this up looking for a quick fun read and I got one. I could see how some wouldn't like it and I feel like you either hate it or love it. Put a tally underneath the love column for me though!
Spencer Clark's Worst Journal Ever was much different than expected but overall it was a solid book. The book follows Spencer as he journeys through the first day of school. It's humorous at times even though Spencer can occasionally be a bit overboard.
It was a pretty funny book, but personally I think he tried to be too funny and too ridiculous at times. For me, the way Spencer Clark wrote the book actually distracted me from what could have been a great story. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't one of my favorites.
The book had its moments, but I think the story was definitely too short. There was more Spencer Clark could have done and for some reason he seemed to cut it short. I guess that's why it's called Worst Journal Ever...
