If you've been curious about home remedies and herbalism but have no idea where to begin, this is a very approachable place to start.
Home Remedies: An A–Z Guide of Quick and Natural Cures by Meredith Hale is an accessible introduction to common herbs, natural ingredients, and traditional home remedies, organized in an easy-to-reference A–Z format.
I enjoyed this most as a gateway into herbalism rather than a comprehensive guide. It introduces a wide variety of ingredients and gives you a basic understanding of how they have traditionally been used, along with a few simple ways to incorporate them into home remedies. The organization also makes it the kind of book that's easy to flip through when you're curious about a particular herb or ingredient rather than something you necessarily need to read straight through.
Where it fell short for me was depth. I would have loved more information about growing and caring for the plants themselves, harvesting and preserving them, and step-by-step instructions for actually creating more of the remedies discussed. While there are some basic methods included, I finished wanting considerably more practical guidance.
That said, I don't think this book is necessarily trying to be an herbalist's encyclopedia. It's much better suited to someone who's thinking, I'm interested in natural remedies...where do I even start?

Looking for chemical-free, safe ways to remedy common illnesses and problems? This is a great, illustrated resource packed full of information for anyone looking for safe (and cheaper) home remedies to common problems like headaches, toothaches, nausea, burns, and allergies. This also includes helpful tips on most topics, like how to prevent certain problems and/or when further medical attention is needed. I found many home remedies I'm already utilizing (with great results!), but there were a few new tools I can add to my toolbox now.
