I bought this book in hopes of actually getting a scientific view on the world of Attack on Titan, but all I got were half-baked ideas, terribly thought-out theories, and flawed assumptions. I'm a big fan of SNK, but this book is a real disgrace to the scientific process and I am deeply disappointed. I would recommend this book only to someone that enjoys reading garbage.

A pop science take on Attack on Titan. Probably best read by casual fans of the series or people who haven't read that far into the manga.

I've read everyone's reviews before I read this book and mostly they all have four and three stars and the way see it is that they don't really like attack on titan or that they're not interested in this kind of stuff. The way I see it though it's a master piece how it talks about the gear and ideas of beating the titans but then they don't all work. Still this book is really good I mean I super excited then I read bit by bit and then I almost finished before I got out the store! Well this book talks about lots of things about attack on titan that some people were wondering about for some time and now most of them are answered of this book! I would recommend this book to people who like attack on titan maybe also people who like science???

This was a first reads book I won through Goodreads.
Rikao Yanagita writes scientific pieces based around science fiction, fantasy, manga and comics and things of that ilk but this is the first thing I've had the pleasure or reading.
The Science of Attack on Titan is a look at how the manga of the same name would realistically translate into the sciences of our world.
When I entered to win this it was more for my 14 year old son than myself. I am a huge fan of anime and manga and I had watched the Attack on Titan anime and enjoyed it just fine but I was no where near as enamored with it as my son and a huge throng of others who obsess over this story. That being said I did enjoy this book it was entertaining and don't tell your kids but it's also very educational. The Science in it is very sound and well described and I can see some kids actually learning some science while reading it then again a lot of it may go over the heads of others. People young and old who actually love science and are fans of the material may truly love the book and I recommend it to kids of all ages who love anime and manga and care about the science behind it.

If the Mythbusters decided to tackle things clearly divorced from reality, the end result would be something like The Science of Attack on Titan. Witty, insightful, and backed by solid math and research, Yanagita explores a variety of aspects of this world, as in-depth as the subject matter allows. It's a quick, enjoyable read--just be warned, that if you've only watched the anime, and not read the manga of Attack on Titan (which apparently goes much farther into the story), several major plot twists will be spoiled for you in this book.

4 stars. This is a companion novel to the Attack on Titan series and includes information from the series through volume 13. If you haven't finished volume 13 of the original manga, there will be spoilers. Obviously this novel wasn't meant to be full of technical and scientific fact, but there were enough appropriate applications of science that it withstood my critical eye. The biggest benefit to reading this was it enabled me to collect all my thoughts and theories about the origins of the Titans. I'll need to keep reading the manga to see if I'm right or not.

3 & 1/2 stars.
A nice filler while I wait for vol. 17 of the manga! Interesting theories and worth a look for Attack on Titan fans (manga fans especially, since anime-only fans will get spoilers).
His figuring out the length/width of the ODM/3DMG blades and such will come in handy for my future cosplay, LOL.

Wow, now I have so much information on the Titans, maneuver gear and the wall! Not that I'll ever use this in real life, but, still interesting to keep in mind while I watch.
Also, looking at the pictures of some parts of the manga; I now understand why we don't have any Attack on Titan mangas in the library.
