This was my first book by Kassidy Carter. I don't normally start in the middle of the series but I ran out of time to read the first book. This is a standalone so you don't have to read book one to know what's going on. I loved Forever Lasting. The beginning of the book broke my heart and it broke several more times throughout. This is one of those ugly snot cry books where you need a box of tissues next to you to make it through. Oh and don't read it around anyone else. Lol. James is a sweetheart but what he went through really messed him up. He ends up being an ass for a bit which made me want to smack him but he redeemed himself nicely. The stuff Grace has to go through will kill you and then to have to deal with James being an ass makes it no better. I loved all the characters of Forever Lasting. It's an emotional cry with a HEA. If you've never read a book by Kassidy Carter this is a good one to start with.
If you haven't read Everlasting, you should because it rocks. If you are reading Forever Lasting first, you can without feeling too lost/confused.
Grace's world fell apart the day her father missed his regular phone call home. She knew before the military came knocking that something was wrong. It didn't matter that she was an adult, in college. When all the details come out, Grace sets out to find the soldier who was with her father when he passed. She needs to see him, thank him, acknowledge that her father was important, someting. Grace just knows that she can't continue the way she has.
James came home injured and depressed. The man he looked up to died in his arms while over seas. The military has forced him home until he has recovered and dealt with everything. When a new girl walks into his sisters bookshop, he knew she was the last thing he needed. She was trouble and yet deserved better than his messed up world. One thing leads to another and soon a friendship grows. In order for love to grow and become forever lasting, secrets have to be shared, fears faced and the heart has to heal.
Kassidy Carter does a great job with this tear jerker of a book! She touches on sensitive subjects with great clarity. From beginning to end, I needed tissues and ice cream.
I have been waiting to read this book for what feels like forever. After reading the first book in the series, I really wanted to read this book. In this book James and Grace will take you on an emotional ride.
I liked both James and Grace's characters. I felt for both of them. Their both trying to in their own ways get over the death of Grace's father. My heart broke for both of them. They both deal with the loss in their own ways.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed both James and Grace. I thought it was great to see characters from the first book make appearances in this book. All in all I thought it was a good book and had a nice flow.
I'm giving this book 4 out of 5 stars!!!!!
