Award-winning author, Heather Ashby is a Navy veteran; retired teacher; mother and grandmother; advocate for children, animals, and the military; and lifelong Empath. Her first work of non-fiction, The Caring Code, is a system she developed to help fellow Empaths focus on the people and issues that are most important in their lives. She wrote her romantic suspense series, “Love in the Fleet” with the help of Major Christopher Bergeron, (USMC-ret), who based his writing on his six combat tours of duty.
Heather lives in San Antonio, Texas with her retired Navy husband, where they volunteer and nurture their children and grandchildren—among others. Heather loves to hear from readers. Contact her at heatherashbyauthor@gmail.com or visit her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/HeatherAshby4
Unforgettable lives up to title in so many ways. Heather Ashby continues her military romance series this time with co-author Major Christopher Bergeron MSMC, retired; together they deal with real issues of deployment, war, romance, terrorists and PTSD. The pain and suffering and the normal life living with PTSD was beautifully written. I cried with their pain, fear and their joy. As I civilian learned more about the suffering that comes with PTSD brought on from battle. PTSD is real and society needs to be aware and soldiers need to realize there is no shame and treatment is available.
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Author Heather Ashby has written a lively tale of romance, suspense, healing and 9/11 souls aboard the famed USS New York—the powerful warship formed with 7.5 tons of steel from the World Trade Center. The author knows the military world well: she is a Navy veteran married to a Navy officer. In addition, she worked with Christopher Bergeron, a retired Marine, to capture the technical details of weaponry and tactics as her tale of romance and terrorism unfolds. The writer’s skill in mastering this special world together with her fast-paced interweaving of individual stories make this a very satisfying book. The romance sizzles, bad guys are obliterated after nail-biting moments, and the ending uplifts. I look forward to reading the other books in her "Love in the Fleet" series. She's a terrific story-teller and writer.
Heather has done it again. I have loved her first three books in this series, and I loved this one too. It was enjoyable catching back up with some of the characters from the first books and following Gwyn and Adam's story in this book. Once again the combination of romance, danger and unforgettable characters make for a read that once started was hard to put down. I was furnished with an e-mail copy of this book in return for an honest review, and I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys good romance and military based fiction.
Unforgettable wraps up the Love in the Fleet series, continuing the story of Royal Navy Lieutenant Gwyn Pritchard and Gunnery Sergeant Adam Connor, adding a romance for Navy pilot Mike Nickolopoulos and Marine pilot Cate Hawkins, and tying up the stories of the 9/11 spirits trapped aboard the U.S.S. New York. Ashby and Bergeron blend romance and healing among the officers with exciting military action. A very satisfying finale to the series.
I enjoyed this book so much. I have been a fan of homopathic medicine since the 1980's and find the healing in this book extremely relevant. The love story is well written and I liked this so much I am buying the first books in the series.
Good suspense at the end, interesting things with ghosts, but too much jumping around for me.
Three stories are being told. I did not like the way the author jumped around among them. Sometimes it was one page on one story, then jump to another story for a few pages, then jump to the third story. I would prefer at least a chapter on each story before switching to another. If you want to talk about two couples, I’d prefer they interact with each other to develop one story instead of jumping to separate locations to tell separate stories. But some readers won’t mind this.
The first half is about life on two ships: The USS New York (US Navy) and a British Navy ship. Readers wanting to read technical things about ships and interactions among the crew should like this. I liked learning about the Osprey. It rotates its engines and blades to change between being a helicopter and an airplane. But for me, I wanted to be drawn in to the characters more.
I really enjoyed the last half. It was good suspense about a female pilot shot down in Kenya and on the run. And yes the ending is happy.
There are two romance stories. Gwen and Adam continue their romance from the previous book “Never Forget.” Adam has PTSD. Gwen has psychic abilities and communicates with ghosts aboard the ship. Cate and Mikey are pilots.
The third story is about a group of ghosts who died during 9/11. They now inhabit the USS New York ship.
DATA: Narrative mode: 3rd person. Story length: 259 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: mild. A few sex scenes. Setting: current day mostly on ships in various locations. Copyright: 2015. Genre: fantasy military romance with suspense.
I thought this book was amazing, and it had quite an impact on me. There were so many characters and things happening, that I felt like I was reading more than one book, but everything was connected. The characters in this book are working on overcoming some very serious problems, and seeing them deal with them is very moving. Even getting to know the villain was interesting. The scenes that show how debilitating PTSD is were written very well, and I feel like they really helped bring the characters to life. I recommend reading book #3 in this series before reading this book because you have even more of the story, and an even better connection with the characters. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Unforgettable is a great story, with plenty of romance, but it also gives readers a glimpse into the reasons for political unrest in Somalia as well as in other areas. Heather and Christopher have produced what I consider a fantastic product: love, action, and a bit history thrown in so readers are not just entertained, but also informed.
