Before time began, you were imagined, planned, and created for a specific and unique purpose. There is something you were created to do and if you don't do it, it will never be done. It is urgent that you find the courage to be and do all you were created for. Someone is waiting for you to be you. Have you ever contemplated your particular purpose - the reason you are on this planet? Have you intentionally pursued your true identity and attempted to fulfill your destiny? Do You Have The Courage To Be You? If you answered "No" to any of these questions, but want to answer "Yes," then life coach, Jenny Williamson, will help you to do just that through the pages of this book.
Do You Have The Courage To Be You? was the provocative question that changed the entire trajectory of Jenny's life, and became the impetus used to propel her on a journey of discovering her water-walking, giant-slaying, history-making destiny. She prays it will do the same for you. As Jenny neared her fortieth birthday, she felt pitifully ordinary, was mired in mediocrity, and cloaked in comfort. She knew courage would be required for her to leave the known for the unknown.
What does it mean to have the courage to be you? What thought patterns or belief systems keep you from being you? What challenges must be faced? How do you find your unique purpose? Within this powerful book, Jenny answers these questions, while transparently sharing her own story. Her journey led her to a vulnerable group of children - children who are being sold for sex - who needed a home and a family.
Jenny Williamson is a romance and fantasy novelist obsessed with the ancient past. While writing a historical romance, she fell down a research rabbit hole—an occupational hazard—and realized she had a decision to make. She could either go on hanging out in bars and ranting about child emperors and Mongol siegecraft and the Praetorian Guard—she gets that way after a few Dark n Stormies—or she could start a podcast.
In addition, Jenny recently published a poetry chapbook with Finishing Line Press. She grew up in Vermont and currently lives in Brooklyn.
Williamson helps readers understand how we form beliefs about ourselves that result in our not being who God created us to be. Often a childhood experience generates feelings that then become truth to us. She helps us know how to identify the lies we believe and then replace the lies with the truth. We need to ask God to reveal them to us but Williamson explains the work we must do too.
Probably the most insightful part of the book for me was within the discussion on emotions and specifically on being offended. We choose to be offended. We must take responsibility for our emotions, knowing we can control and change them.
Williamson gives the encouragement to be who God created us to be within the example of her own life journey of being given a dream and then bringing it to reality. This is a very encouraging book showing the impact one person can have on the world. She includes the life changing challenge and a good strategy to be who God created us to be.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Interesting insights! Really changes your perspectives and makes you think! I don’t usually read this kind of book so it’s not 100% my thing but I enjoyed it
This book is written to encourage you to “Examine what you believe and why you believe it.” So that you can change your truth and so that you will have the courage to be you, the you God created you to be.
I will be reading this book again . I haven’t finished the entire book but will as as soon as I can. I haven’t starting journaling yet but am strongly thinking about it.
The author uses personal stories from her life and encourages readers to use a journal to help us become who God made us to be.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
It chugs a little in places, but some really good truths in here and the fascinating part is near the end when God answers through obedience to the seemingly weird requests.
Jenny Williamson in her new book, “Do You Have The Courage To Be You?” published by Next Century Publishing tells us You Were Created On Purpose For A Purpose.
From the back cover: Before time began, you were imagined, planned, and created for a specific and unique purpose. There is something you were created to do and if you don’t do it, it will never be done. It is urgent that you find the courage to be and do all you were created for. Where will your journey lead you?
Jenny Williamson believes that most people do not have a clue as to why they are on this planet. She feels the trouble is most of us have no idea how to find our specific purpose even if we believe we have one. The good news is Ms. Williamson can, not only, provide the answers we seek she has written the book to give them to us. The book is divided into two parts: Part One: Your Identity and Part Two: Your Destiny. It is time we found out just who we are and what our unique purpose is in life. We are here to be of service to others, to help them in their need. We cannot do that unless we embrace our purpose and move into destiny. It is going to have to mean changing a lot of the way we think. That is not really such a bad idea as a lot of what we currently think is incorrect and harmful. Be warned it is going to take courage to make the changes that we need. Oh but what we are going to accomplish the minute that we start. Where will your journey lead you? I recommend this book highly. It will make a great gift to give to friends and family so that they can embrace their destiny as well.

I love reading about women who are change makers. These women are empowering, selfless and brave. In 2013 I read However Long the Night by Aimee Molloy about the incredible story of Molly Melching, founder of Tostan. In 2014, I read Who Knows Tomorrow, the memoir of Lisa Lovatt-Smith who founded OAfrica. This past week I read Do You Have the Courage to be You? by Jenny Williamson, founder of Courage Worldwide, an organization that builds homes and restores lives for victims of sex trafficking.
Right from the start of the book I can see Jenny is one of those positive women who inspires others. She writes the book in the first person and I liked her voice and candid narrative immediately. Jenny believes God has called her to her water-walking, giant-slaying, history-making destiny and she devotes her book to showing the reader how that can happen to them.
So in many ways this is a self-help book in finding your calling in life as a Christian. If you are not a Christian, you may have a hard time relating to this book, as it is written for Christians in mind. This book is also part memoir and I enjoyed these sections the most, and hoped there was more on how Jenny came to found Courage Worldwide. Toward the very end of the book Jenny goes into more details about how she came to establish homes for these girls, but I wanted to know more.
Jenny makes it clear that ordinary people can do extraordinary things, and I believe this to be so true. We all have so much we can give and sometimes all we need is the push to take that courageous stand to do it. Some of the horrific things that are happening in this world can make us feel helpless, but even a small act of kindness can bring about great change. I admire people who get out of their comfort zone, rely on their Creator, and selflessly help others. Jenny is one of those people.
I believe this book is written specifically for an audience who is looking for a purpose in life. I can appreciate that Jenny wants to empower young women and her kindness and self-sacrificing spirit is large. Fifty percent of all proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Courage Worldwide.
Jenny Williamson believes that we were all born with a purpose. She believes that God created each of us specifically to do something special – something that we have been uniquely created to do. And, she believes that finding our purpose and living out life in accordance with our God-given purpose leads us to the greatest adventure we could ever imagine.
In Do You Have The Courage To Be You? – a faith-based book that’s part motivational, part self-help and part memoir – Jennifer shares with us the question and the process that led her to uncover the passion and purpose God put inside of her – and provides us with steps for uncovering our own destiny.
One thing that distinguishes Do You Have The Courage To Be You? from other books designed to help you uncover your life purpose is that Jenny emphasizes that knowing what you should be doing and mustering the courage to pursue that path are two entirely different things.
In Part One of her book, Jenny focuses on helping you uncover your identity; In Part Two, she focuses on helping you fulfill your destiny.
Jenny’s destiny has led her to provide safe havens for children who are rescued from the horrors of sex trafficking – children who God also created for a unique and beautiful purpose.
Whether or not you know why you or here – are searching for answers – or are trying to muster up the courage to pursue the path you believe you should be on, you’re sure to find Do You Have The Courage To Be You? an inspiring book to read.
I never thought I'd be one to read non-fiction... I love so much to get caught up in a good story, but after I watched the In Plain Sight documentary (http://www.inplainsightfilm.com/#stha...) on human trafficking, I related most to Jenny Williamson and her story. When I received a notification that she was publishing a book - I didn't care what the topic was, I wanted to read it. I'm so thankful I did.
So many life-speaking quotes/concepts in this book. Ultimately, I was created on purpose for a purpose, which I already believed. But I never thought about the fact that someone else might be waiting for me to be who I should be to help them be who they are meant to be.
"You must learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable." "That is what fear does to you - it stops you dead in your tracks. It is hard to even think or pray. After paralyzing fear comes reactive panic." "Our Creator is constantly invading our ordinary, attempting to woo us to the extraordinary. Distractions, discouragement, and disappointment blind us to who we are and what we are supposed to be doing." "Become an expert in what breaks your heart." "There is something for you to do that only you can do. And if you do not do it, it will never be done."
Jenny's story of how our Creator lead her to discover her identity & destiny in Him is absolutely amazing!!! I'm now continuing my own quest and looking forward to an incredible journey in the process! I am a "Water walker, giant slayer, history maker"!! And so are you! Take Courage!
The journey continues~so far it has been incredibly amazing! I resigned from my job of 10 years. I now work within Jenny's organization, CourageWorldwide, helping to rescue and restore girls from sex trafficking! God does the impossible when we trust Him!!
