This happened for the most part on Goodreads, but a few snuck in on Amazon through the KU program because of the free option.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
OMG! This is so wicked! I have totally fallen in love with this series. And each episode is better than the previous one. Payne Hawthorne has a wicked imagination, and along with her unbelievable gift of being able to put her vision to words…. All I can say is WOW!!!
This book branches off a bit, moving away from Jacob and Allison, and concentrating on Samantha, who has left the pack in search of her fated mate. Her wolf has become restless and needs to roam with the hope she will find him. Her travels bring her to the deep woods of Alaska, and literally dump her in the backyard of Cain. Ohhhh! And what a story he has (but you will have to read to hear what he has to say)!
Their misadventures find trouble in the worst way, only to have them find a way to call in the pack for help.
This episode is full of pain in many forms, love…new and old, and plenty of hot and sweaty, and very explicit, sex. Many new characters are introduced to the series (opening the door of course, for many more episodes).
The plot is hot and steamy, and as you read, you will find it very hard to put down. The characters have developed strongly and will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is so easy to feel the connection to them, almost as if you were one of them.
A definite Must Read! I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a great paranormal read. Guaranteed, you won’t be disappointed.

What would you do if you lived your life feeling like some thing was missing, then all at once you found what made you feel complete? When Samantha meets Cain, she has met her Alpha, but she still has a family at home. Will they understand? Cain is every thing her wolf and herself have been searching for. However, Cain is not just one who can take on the wolf shape, in fact he can take many, will this work for them? I would suggest you start at the beginning of this series and read from book 1 before you read this one. It can be read all by itself but you will understand so much more if you start from 1. I love a good shape shifter story and this one good. I much different twist to the norm for most shifter books. I loved it.

This series just keeps getting better. Cain is a Michera; he has been around since the start of man. He is like 7 feet tale, he speaks dozens of languages and his long hair changes colour depending on his emotions at the time. He is able to shift into any animal, such as a bear, eagle, dog, or a smaller person and he does this several times in his story. By shifting he is able to elude capture and/or keep himself safe.
Cain stumbles upon Samantha, the small, but mighty Alpha were-wolf-woman after she has a fight with a bear, and she kills it. Near death herself, Samantha is terrified when she first sees Cain and his mountain lion sidekick Nyma. Cain shifts shapes, man to beast, changing his hand to a razor clawed hand while he is butchering up the bear meat. "Samantha watched on in dismay. Certain she was either dead or well on her way, and she was simply in delirium. As the sun crept closer to the horizon, the man made a harness out of sinew and ligaments and fastened this around the big cat."
There was lots of sex in this book. "He took a tentative stroke and the terrain of his girth skidded against her deepest perceptions. He was an immense male, but it was more than just his cock buried inside her. His emotions were also now swirling in an unfathomable whirlpool of sensations. She felt him-all of him-inside her in a substantial way that transcended the physical. This was a joining of mated souls. She was rapturous, and could empathically feel he was equally enthralled to the point of overwhelmed."
This Author writes such beautiful sentences, the words are creative and exciting and such a pleasure to read. I can hear the Narrator Joshua Story reading Cain's words, just from his work with the past 3 books. These books are terrific and I really lost all track of time on this, Cain and Samantha's story.

I was gifted this direct from Payne Hawthorne and I LOVE her for that!!
Samantha, mother to Matt, Elijah and Sam, Alpha female to the ever growing pack is fighting. She is fighting her wolf, so much, that she locked herself up around the time of the next full moon. Her wolf wants free, after so much time locked up. And Sam lets her go.
Cain finds her, suffering from a bear attack. His reaction to the black wolf curled up in his bed is instant and powerful, and totally unexpected. Indeed, he was under the impression that he would never find his mate. The curse that crippled the wolves centuries ago did not affect Cain, for he has his own curse to deal with. Cain, brother to Abel, is able to shift into any predator, on land, in air or at sea. He is Chimera and that is his curse.
I wanna say just one thing:
FREAKING LOVED THIS ONE!!
Really and truly loved it, its Payne's best work yet and I cannot wait to see what comes next!
Samantha was suffering, we knew that, she and her wolf needed to be free, free from the pack, from her husband of 30 years, free of everyone and everything. She finds what she and her wolf needed, Cain. I loved that Cain had a name from Samantha's wolf, and one for her human half. Cain has been on his own and long LONG time, he is a creation child. I loved that reference to Cain and Abel, to Adam and Eve, and the different take to the biblical story.
Being only used to his own company for many a century, it makes for some amusing times between Sam and Cain. We have humour, we have passion, we have action/violence when Cain goes off to rescue Sam, and two other wolves captured; Amber and Cyrus. And we have scorching hot scenes between Sam and Cain. At one point, the lines are blurred, with Sam and Cain both needing more from each other, and thats where its blurred, between sex and viloence. Its agreed by both Sam and Cain they need it though.
I loved that we got some Jacob/Allison, some Sam/Abigail and some Matt/Lumen. I felt for Iain though, when Samantha goes and leaves him. He needs a HEA soon. For Samantha will not be his any longer.
I have to tell you this though. I LISTENED to book one, two and three almost back to back. When I started to READ this one, I could hear Joshua Story in my head, telling me the tale, as I read it. I could not shut him off. When I get to LISTEN to this one, I will excited to hear how Joshua pulls Cain and Cyrus off, and I WILL get to listen, I know I will!! I'll add that review to this one, so watch this space to what I thought.
New characters, Amber and Cyrus, Amber, I know is spoken for (I have insider information!) But I can see Cyrus and his brothers causing chaos in the near future. New paranormal beings, vampires and other shifters. A particularly nasty tiger shifter makes a return at some point, thats not so much insider information, as closely following what Samantha says after her release. And the summit is soon, so lord knows what and who will come to that!
I cannot wait for the next one, Payne, really. You outdid yourself here!

As I said previously, I would listen to this book as well as read it. ANd I have to say, Joshua Story nailed Cain and Cyrus, especially, abso-freaking-lutely NAILED IT!! When I was READING, I had his voice in my head, all the bloody time, and when I actually LISTENED it was like, amazing to hear that everything I heard was spot on. With one exception. Sir. The nasty tiget shifter mentioned before. His voice, while reading, was dark and deep and full of nastiness. While listening, and this did NOT make sense til after, speaking with Joshua, he's all nice and light and lovely. And, he is so much like another character, its untrue. Deliberate on Mr Story's part that one, and rather scary.
Also, a particular scene was much harder to listen to, that read. Doesn't effect my review or rating, just a personal choice, thats all.
Mr Story's best work yet, I must say!
5 stars for the narration, and 5 for the book.

I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.
This is the fourth book in the Dorman Desires series but this one can be read as a standalone as it mainly focuses on Samantha, who has left Jacob's pack, and Cain, who has never had a pack. Whilst you 'can', I recommend you don't - simply for the fact that you are missing out on 3 amazing stories if you do.
Like I said, this story focuses on Samantha. She has had a hard time of it since Jacob and Allison came along. She is Alpha and needs an Alpha male to balance her out. While she loves Ian deeply and has had 30 happy years with him, he just isn't Alpha enough for her wolf. So she leaves and goes to be free. She meets Cain after she has fought and killed a grizzly bear. She is in no state for introductions as she is unconscious for most of the time in the beginning. They soon realise that they are the fated mate of the other, much to Cain's surprise as he didn't think that he would have one.
This story is full of revelations and comes complete with its own version of the bible story. It is full of action and understandably emotional reactions later on. There are some parts of this book that you might not be comfortable reading but if you have read the previous three, then you'll know that these are sometimes close to the knuckle anyway but always in a way that is fitting for the story involved.
This is an amazing shifter series that gets stronger with every book. Definitely recommended by me.

Sexy old shifters!!
I could not wait to start this book upon finishing the last book. I was addicted to Jacob and the other sexy shifters. But Payne through me for a loop in introducing another Alpha male. Cain is like no others before him. With an interesting background and a curse that makes him go hairy, his outcast ways give him an edge that is bound to draw any Alpha female in!!
" Their joining was reunion mixed with angst. Lifetimes of longing mixed with pure ecstasy and every primal need four individual souls could ever manifest."
But living over a thousand years on the Earth is bound to attract someone's attention. But never the good kind. New arrivals bring trouble but not everyone is all bad. Feelings that Cain hasn't felt in a long time. He struggles with the beast within, to provide, protect, and bring pleasure.
" His warmth enveloped her along with a sense of safety and protection unlike anything she’d ever experienced. He looked at her as if he’d been gifted with the most prized possession imaginable. His yearning mixed with intense desire."
I need more!!! I have a feeling the unexpected is bound to make his presence known. And it will be one thrilling ride.

A little about the Story: This is the 4th book in the Dormant Desires series and it's the Story of Samantha. Stuck between her love for her family and human husband and the undeniable need to find her mate, Sam goes off on an adventure of her own.

Pros- Though we have already been introduced to Sam in the previous books, we get to know her a lot better in this story. I loved the edge of your seat happenings in this book. It was more of a paranormal thriller and getting the Pack together again to help, was awesome. This story also had the humor I loved reading in book 3.
Cons- Oh that cliffhanger. It isn't like your typical cliffhanger, its more like a cliffhanger that wasn't. lol You'll just have to read it, to know what I am talking about.
Once again, Ms Hawthorne came through with an awesome addition to a great Series. Can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.

This author has never disappointed me and this new title is no exception. I just adore her slightly off center style. She writes unlike anyone else in this genre, (a fabulous thing!)... plus her imagination is fascinating. The theology is also incredibly interesting and I find that her books make me think, feel, and laugh.
Her erotica is some of the best out there and even though often way over the top, never offensive--always arousing.
5 stars and a one-click author for me. Can't wait for the next installment.
ALSO... phenomenal on audio! Her narrator is the bomb! Best male voice ever and his accents are perfection!

I do think this the best one yet. I loved how the dynamic was played. Cain, as in the Cain, and how his story is told. The original Adam and Eve. An excellent tale
