Refreshing
This is the second christian romance I've read but the first that centered Black people. I honestly couldn't put the book down. It was well written, had great banter and centered faith in a way that felt realistic and not corny. I have more thoughts, but I literally just got done reading the book, so it may take some time to frame the rest of my opinion. However, I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

1. Icebreaker Question: Do you have a favorite or least favorite character in the story or one you identify with most? If so, why do they make you love and/or dislike them?
I liked all of the characters except Nikki and Aunt Moriah. Simone resonated more with me because I was raised by my grandmother too and I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was a young adult at twenty two years old. I use to try to be there for everyone to the point I was an enabler and exhausted trying to be Superwoman. I didn’t like that Nikki was a user and Aunt Moriah was intentionally an absentee parent.
2. Faith & Timing: How did Samaj and Simone’s relationship show the importance of waiting on God’s timing? In what areas of your life are you tempted to rush instead of trusting God’s timing? What would surrender look like for you?
I’m at a place in my life where I’m patiently waiting on God to fulfill His promises. Me surrendering is trusting in His plan and timing that He has for me without doubting that He wants His very best for me.
3. Healing Before Union: Both Samaj and Simone faced personal healing before fully committing themselves to each other. Why is individual healing important in Christian relationships? What unresolved wounds or habits might God be calling you to address?
Individual healing is necessary because unresolved wounds would bring baggage into the relationship that would cause conflict and discord eventually. While going through my divorce, I went on a fast that consisted of fasting, prayer, meditation, and journaling to break soul ties and healing because I wanted to be whole and healed for my God ordained forever husband when he finds me.
4. Boundaries & Obedience: Samaj was intentional about setting boundaries while courting Simone. How did those boundaries strengthen—not limit—their relationship? What boundaries do you currently have in place to honor God and yourself, (not solely in your relationships but in all areas of your life) and where might you need to be more intentional?
When my forever husband finds me and we start dating with intention, we won’t be kissing on the mouth or any other sexual erotic places, we won’t be having any kind of sexual relations, we won’t be in each other’s bedrooms, visits end no later than 10p, no close body to body hugs, no conversing about séx nor lustful conversations, and I want to include God in our relationship with devotion, prayer, fasting, and meditation time together.
5. Mental Health & Faith: The story openly addresses therapy, addiction recovery, and trauma. How does the book balance faith with seeking professional help? How do you personally view therapy, counseling, or asking for help? Do you see these as separate from my faith or as tools God can use? If you’ve ever been to therapy what is something you’ve learned?
I’ve never had professional therapy but I have had intense one on one counseling through my spiritual advisor for over twenty five years. He has counseled my children, grandchildren, and even my ex. I’m not against licensed therapists and I feel as though any positive help is a good thing but I love the fact that my spiritual advisor is very prophetic like how Dr. Thomas so the Holy Spirit guides him on how to counsel us.
6. Forgiveness & Family: How did family wounds and generational pain affect Samaj’s choices? What role did forgiveness play in his growth? How has your family history shaped your beliefs about love, trust, or commitment? Is there anyone you need to forgive or have honest conversations with? How do you know when you’ve truly forgiven someone?
Samaj was so used to seeing his mom shut down when she was going through something that he started doing the same thing as well. He had to forgive his parents and accept that they withheld information from him not to hurt him but in trying to protect him from their pasts.
My family believes in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and if you step on my toe, I’m going to break your foot. When I got saved, I thank God that the Word gave me a new outlook on life and created in me a clean heart and renewed a right spirit within me. I thank and praise God for a renewed mindset in Christ Jesus.
7. Purposeful Love vs. Casual Dating: In what ways did Samaj’s approach to courting differ from modern dating culture, and how did that impact Simone’s sense of security? Do you approach relationships casually or intentionally? What would intentional, God-centered love look like for you?
I like the fact that Simone got to experience Samaj being her safe space and that she could trust him with her heart and walking in, if not guiding her more, towards holiness. For myself…my #4 response.
8. Community & Accountability: How did friends, family, and church community influence Samaj and Simone’s faith walk and relationship decisions? Who has spiritual access to your life? Do you allow trusted people to speak truth into your decisions?
Samaj and Simone had a good Christian community that influenced their Christian walk and their intentional dating relationship. My two saved best friends, one of my uncles, my godmother, and my spiritual advisor are who I give spiritual access to and who I trust to give me good godly advice.
9. Rededication & New Beginnings: What did the altar moment symbolize for both characters, and how did it mark a true turning point in their story? Is there an area of your life where God is inviting you into a fresh start? What might obedience require from you in this new season?
I loved the fact that Samaj and Simone went to the altar together and dedicated themselves to Christ together signifying that they accept Him as their Savior together while dedicating themselves and their relationship to glorify Him. This new season that I’m in has me totally believing and trusting God which at one time was a struggle for me because I was use to making things happen on my own. Now, I stress and worry less because I know that God is the one in control and I’m more obedient to sit still and wait on the Lord to move on my behalf.

When I’m going through something or need to make a pertinent decision, I go to God in prayer and sometimes fast. I’m a firm believer in casting all my cares to my Heavenly Father.
11. Application to Real Life: What lessons from Samaj and Simone’s journey can you apply to your own relationships, healing processes, or walk with God?
When going through the healing process, one will go through different stages that don’t feel good but we must hold on to the faith that all things will work out for the good of those who loves the Lord and has been called according to His purpose. I also like that Samaj stopped drinking after her got saved and even got Kadeem and Emaree not to order mimosas when they all visited him in Union City.

*What moment in the story did you feel most connected to and why did it resonate with you?
I felt most connected to Simone at multiple moments but I can state that I felt a deep connection when she started her own healing journey especially taking herself on dates, praying, and meditating.
*How did the way faith, healing and romance in this storyline shape your overall experience as a reader? Is there anything from the story that you feel should have been explored more deeply?
I really started to enjoy the book when it got to around 45-50% because it started out very slow in my opinion. After that, everything balanced out. I would have liked more depth of what happened to Simone’s parents other than they were involved shooting and them being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I Really wanted to read about their wedding and not just skip from the engagement to them being married.
*What are your predictions with Kadeem and Emaree’s story which will be book #2 in The Heaven on Earth series?
I honestly can’t wait to read Kadeem and Emaree’s story. I hope we get a scene of the at the house warming party/game night at Samaj and Simone’s house especially since Emaree is bringing Donovan and Kadeem is bringing Kira who no one in the group has met and most likely Emaree is going to be in her feelings feeling some type of way á out Kadeem bringing a date. Both of their mouths are reckless so it’s probably no telling what will come out of them especially Kadeem with one of his pet names for Emaree.

Returning to Your First Love
I genuinely do not have enough words to express how much I loved Peace and Promise by Emilda J.
I have read a handful of books that call themselves Christian fiction, but this is the first one that truly felt like Christian fiction from beginning to end. Nothing about this book felt forced. It did not feel like Scripture was thrown into the story just so it could be labeled as Christian. It did not feel preachy, and it never felt like I was being talked at. Instead, every lesson, every conversation, and every decision the characters made pointed back to Christ in such a natural and beautiful way.
Reading this book made it clear to me that the author is not simply writing about God. She has a genuine relationship with Him, and that shines through every page. She is using the gift God has given her to write stories that entertain while also pointing people back to Jesus, and I honestly believe that is what makes this book so special.
The story follows Semaj and Simone as they navigate grief, heartbreak, healing, and love. More than anything, it is a story about surrender. It reminds us that our plans are not always God’s plans, and sometimes the greatest blessing comes when we stop trying to control every detail of our lives and simply trust Him.
One of my favorite parts of this book was seeing the growth between Semaj and Simone. They got dating wrong the first time, but instead of staying in that place, they separated, allowed God to work on them individually, and came back together with a completely different foundation. That alone spoke volumes to me.
What impacted me the most was the way Semaj led their relationship after they reunited. He was intentional. He courted Simone with purpose, established healthy boundaries, and made it clear that he never wanted either of them to end up in situations where they would have to knowingly repent for compromising their relationship with God. Instead of seeing temptation as something to excuse, they took it to God in prayer and allowed Him to remain at the center of their relationship. I cannot even explain how refreshing it was to read a love story that honored God in that way.
Another moment that deeply touched me was when Semaj led both himself and Simone back to the altar to surrender their lives to Christ together. I did not overlook the significance of that moment. He was not only leading her as someone he loved, but he was already carrying himself with the heart posture of a husband. That scene stayed with me long after I finished reading.
This book also challenged me personally. It made me reflect on my own relationship with God and even the kind of relationship I hope to have one day. It reminded me that love should never pull you away from Christ. If anything, it should draw you both closer to Him. That perspective is something I will carry with me.
I can honestly say this book lit a fire in me. It encouraged me to continue pursuing holiness, to keep dying to my flesh daily, and to continue surrendering every area of my life to God. Very few books leave me feeling transformed after I turn the last page, but this one absolutely did.
If you are single, dating, engaged, married, or simply someone who wants to see what it looks like to keep Christ at the center of your life and relationships, I cannot recommend this book enough. This is more than a sweet romance. It is a beautiful reminder that when we surrender everything to God, He is faithful to write a better story than we ever could ourselves.

Peace and Promise (Heaven & Earth Series Book 1) by Emilda J. was such a beautiful read.
As someone who loves romance, I absolutely appreciated how this story seamlessly wove together faith, love, healing, grief, friendship, family, prayer, fasting, and even therapy. It wasn’t just a romance—it was a story about growth, restoration, and learning to trust God through life’s hardest seasons.
Every character felt real and relatable, and I found myself deeply invested in their journeys. The relationships were beautifully developed, the emotions felt authentic, and the storyline flowed effortlessly from beginning to end. Even when life slowed my reading pace down, I couldn’t wait to get back to this book.
One of my favorite aspects was how naturally Scripture, prayer, and biblical principles were incorporated into the story. There were so many meaningful moments, powerful reminders, and little gems that I highlighted along the way. The faith element never felt forced—it felt genuine, heartfelt, and central to the characters’ lives.
And the ending? Absolutely beautiful. Including a prayer for readers who want to accept Christ as their personal Savior was such a thoughtful and impactful touch that truly set this book apart.
I closed this book feeling encouraged, inspired, and honestly a little sad that it was over. That’s always the sign of a great story.

a loaded Christian romance story
Overall Thoughts:
This is a heartfelt Christian romance that beautifully explores grief, healing, restoration, new beginnings, and second chances.
What I appreciated most was how authentically it portrayed the Christian walk. It reminds us that following Christ isn’t always easy or picture-perfect. There are seasons of pain, growth, waiting, and restoration, but through it all, God remains faithful, guiding every step according to His perfect will and for His glory.
Samaj and Simone’s journey is a beautiful reflection of that truth, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to experience their story.
Book Overview:

This is a heartfelt Christian romance that beautifully explores grief, healing, restoration, new beginnings, and second chances.
What I appreciated most was how authentically it portrayed the Christian walk. It reminds us that following Christ isn’t always easy or picture-perfect. There are seasons of pain, growth, waiting, and restoration, but through it all, God remains faithful, guiding every step according to His perfect will and for His glory.
Samaj and Simone’s journey is a beautiful reflection of that truth, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to experience their story.

Faith, Relationships and Love
This book touched on some heavy topics through the lens of faith. I liked the premise of the story, their love was built through friendship and God was a constant thread in their relationship journey. All the relationships in the book were purposeful. Emaree and Kadeem were probably my favourites. Simone did things to annoy me a few times like the restaurant incident and what happened at Samaj’s birthday. In my opinion she had some growing up to do. Simone and Samaj were cute though and I wished we had more moments with them together. It seemed that they were apart more than together so the romantic moments weren’t many. So whilst there are romantic elements in the book I wouldn’t call this a romance, as individual growth and healing were more of the focus. I struggled with their ages, as a thirty something year old woman the interactions seemed very YA but these characters were approaching their mid twenties. Overall a decent and cute read.

June 8, 2026This being a Christian Romance this was done beautifully without forcing religion down your throat it shows that everyone may be at a different spot in their religious journey and that’s ok. However the connection between Simone and Samaj was still able to be felt without any spicy scenes the characters were very much relatable and the love story was real. This was a very fresh and light romance. new style of romance for me but I highly enjoyed. Thank you for the opportunity to ARC read.

Beautiful
This story was a beautiful example of Godly love. I absolutely enjoyed a d connected with the main characters' struggles and how their faith brought them through. Loved the scriptures throughout, and I love genuine pure love!

Sweet Peace and Promises
What an amazing debut! I burnt the midnight oil reading Simone and Samaj story. This book was extremely well written, uncovered so many issues and brought healing! I definitely recommend! Lots of lessons to learn here and great characters to fall in love with! I anticipate book 2

I LOVED this book so much! This was my first Christian romance book that I read and I loved all of it. The depth of the characters and their individual stories was so real, raw and I could relate to it personally. The pacing was amazing and it had me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book. Highly recommend!

Peace and Promise was my first ever Christian romance read, and it truly surprised me in the best way.
This ended up being a five-star read for me.
From the very beginning, I was drawn in by the emotional depth, especially the grief surrounding Samaj’s brother, Shiloh. It was handled with so much care and tenderness that it immediately grounded the story in something real and heartfelt. I also really loved how Simone and Samaj were introduced—the moment with her leaving the note on his car was such a sweet, memorable start to their connection.
Their romance felt genuinely comforting and easy to root for. I found myself constantly smiling or quietly “swooning” over Samaj’s actions, and Simone is the kind of FMC who feels warm, kind, and so easy to love. She’s the type of character you’d genuinely want to be friends with.
One of my favorite parts of the book was the supporting cast, especially Kadeem. He was absolutely hilarious and brought so much personality to every scene he was in. I’m already looking forward to his story because I just know it’s going to be one I devour.
There were also so many moments where I couldn’t put the book down. It’s the kind of story that keeps you turning pages because it’s not just romantic—it’s engaging, comforting, and emotionally rich all at once.
I also really appreciated the faith elements woven throughout the story. The prayers, scriptures and spiritual reflections felt natural and meaningful, not forced, and they genuinely left an impact on me. Great Read!
This book touches on everything from the male and female perspectives, from grief, finding the love of God and restoration and healing! You see how in the black community males don’t seek therapy, but in this book he does and turns back to God and really heals and faces his grief! That was so powerful, and the way the female character stands on her boundaries until she saw the change in him by praying for him and doing the work in her life, they both deserved their happy ending! I thought the way they both found salvation together and their home church was the perfect touch! I really enjoyed the salvation prayer at the end of the book!
This book reminded me and that even though we fall short God is always there whenever we are ready! That community is very important! Please give this book a read it was simply a good read!

I recently read a book an author sent me, and it was such a sweet friends-to-lovers story. ❤️ It does touch on mental illness and suicide, so definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in.
One of my favorite parts was watching the main character go on a journey of self-discovery and healing. I also loved how naturally the Bible references were woven throughout the story. And can we talk about the MMC? 🥹 He was so thoughtful, always paying attention to the little things about her and finding ways to make her feel seen and cared for. This book is a MUST READ! Blessed to be an ARC reader I was able to read this book early and let me tellll YOU! AMAZING! This story is so relatable and cute!!! There are so many gems in this book. I fell in love with the characters. I cried, I was smiling from ear to ear kicking my feet, I also sat back and had to self reflect a few times too. I could not put this book down!
