Ellyn Johnson is a struggling single mother living in The Bronx and like most women in her position she enjoys dreaming about what it might be like to be swept off her feet by a handsome, young Billionaire. A man who can solve all her problems, introduce her to the good life and, most importantly, make her happy.
Ellyn knows that things like this normally only ever happen in fairy tales but she also knows that sometimes you have to get out there and make things happen for yourself. So when Ellyn hears of a party in Manhattan that will have lots of young, rich men attending she and her friend hatch a plan to try and sneak in. Only this plan involves her pretending to be someone she isn't.
It is at this party that she meets Colon Hamilton the third, a billionaire who counts a talent agency as one of his many businesses. Colon is more than interested in getting to know Ellyn but does he want to know her or the woman she is pretending to be? And how long can she carry on dating a billionaire before her true identity is discovered?

DNF No,just no. I couldn't finish this. I started, and saw multiple good reviews, but I couldn't get past chapter 3. In the first chapter, the main character Ellyn I think, stole a dress from her neighbor who used identity theft to get deliveries. She had zero reservations about any of this. Ok no I can't. Is it supposed to be easy to swallow since SHE didn't steal from others? No, she just stole from a thief so it's ok. Wow. Then her friend keeps talking about finding a man to take care of them. Because they were incapable of doing anything about their own circumstances? They just told lies to people about going to school at incredible universities because they were too lazy to do the work required to actually go. Nice. Then this woman is constantly pushing her toddler aged child off on other people. In the first 3 chapters she spent more time with her friends than her child. He was constantly being looked after by others cause his fast mommy was trying to live the good life. She even left him alone in a thrift store play area because she was trying to find a $10 dress to trick some billionaire into thinking she had her stuff together. Gotcha. Finally she goes to a restaurant called Mange. Mange people! This restaurant is named after a parasitic skin disease!!! How is that appetizing?
I'm done. The billionaire Colton (the book summary for Goodreads has his name as COLON...a typo that ridiculous should have been my warning) had some kind of insta love to this ridiculous woman, and there is not enough suspension of disbelief that could make me think that possible. He made comments that he couldn't date a woman who was only interested in him for his money, and that is exactly what motivated these women. She and her friend spent the evening at an upscale party acting like completely ridiculous children with zero class. They spilled champagne and fell into people and caused multiple scenes. There is NO WAY. None of this would happen.
I can't with this. Give me a heroine that has class. One that doesn't just want someone to take care of her. I'm way too independent to sympathize or identify with this mess.
This is my first book by this author. I read this story on Kindle Unlimited. Unfortunately in the blurb it says the leading man's name is Colon. This clearly is an error and his name in the book is spelt Colton. Don't let that put you off getting the book. It was at selling at 99 cents at the time I read the book.
This is Ellyn and Colton's story. I like Cinderella stories and I enjoyed this one too. The only thing I did not enjoy that much is how hard Ellyn tries to be independent of Colton when all he is trying to do is love and help her. I found that side of her attitude very annoying. Apart from that I enjoyed the story.
I finished this book because I'm stupid. The female lead, who's name escapes me, that tells you something right there, was so frustrating and ghetto stupid, I really hoped Colton would kick her hindparts to the curb. Because he relationship with Chance, baby daddy, I did not understand her determination to keep his trifling A$$ involved. Then even after he mugged Colton and kidnapped Derek, she still had to be convinced to press charges. It is not unconceivable fir a wealthy man to fall in love with someone from a socially disadvantaged background, but I found unbelievable that what's her name would be that woman just by the way she couldn't get past her vast insecurities. No, Nah, I can't recommend this one. Very disappointing because I do want and have supported this genre and women of color.
Ellyn Johnson just wants to do better in life, so a chance meeting with to Colin Hamilton III is more than welcome. But is Ellyn ready for the change that Colin will bring?
This book has been in my Kindle for so long that I couldn’t even tell you when I got it? And it’s surprisingly good. Maybe one mistake in the whole book and I’m still surprised. Okay, maybe two.
If you love a good rags to riches story, this is definitely it.
I was glad to read about the challenges that surrounded Colon and Ellyn. With all of the negative things that seemed to come running at high speed toward them, I was looking forward to reading their happily ever after. Lovely story Susan Westwood!
Great story, excellently written. The female was depicted 'strong, protective and devoted black mother', very proud and kind. I was a little frustrated at first with her, but realized it was her way to survive on her own. Kudos to the author!!☺
This was an okay read. The grammatical errors are frustrating! Sentences are repeating, words misspelled or not correctly used. That's so annoying! If its one or two grammatical errors, okay fine; but more than that can deter me from finishing the book. It was a cute book, it's just the characters irritated me. The heroine in this book was so insecure it was just unattractive. I loved that the author made her a strong woman. It's just I couldn't get down with that insecure bull carp. Like the hero is clearly there to stay after she lied to him. & got to tap that lol, she clearly can't get rid of him that easily. The book was a bit unrealistic too. When it got 70% I skipped the pages, it started to get slow & boring. It had some funny moments, which is a plus. For me it's a one-time read.
This was a Bookbub recommendation so I got it for free via Amazon, and it was just BAD. Had to give it one star to write a review, and I'd like to give it none.
Characters were completely lacking in development or personality, their conversation/dialogue was unbelievable and boring, and the plot was a rushed Maid in Manhattan. I managed to make it through to the first sex scene, and was completely disappointed at the absolute non-steaminess and perfunctory quick scene. Set this down at this point because it was just terrible.
Thanks Susan Westwood for a awesome book. I Loved it from the beginning to the end. I fell in love with the character. You never know how your life will turn out. You think that you have everything planned, until someone comes into your life and turns it upside down. Hard to trust that they have your best interest at heart, until you realize that they only want the best for you and your child! I would recommend this book to read!
This was a really good book. I loved the interaction between all the characters. The love story was nice and I loved how unselfish Colon was. I will definitely read her other novels.
I really enjoyed this book I thought the story was sweet and genuine. I didn't think we was really after a rich husband she was way too independent for that. This is my second susan westwood book and I have enjoyed them both
This is a cute story...I would have giving a higher rating, but it has plenty of errors (typos, repetition etc.) the overall package needs polish...but aside from that the story itself was good.
I really enjoyed this book. What stopped me from giving it 5 stars is I got irritated with them being so scared to share their feelings up until the last chapter.
this was a solid 3* read for me. i liked the heroine's rags to riches storyline, but particularly enjoyed the male character. he knew when to be assertive and when to step back. a lot of typos.
