It was another Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase thriller. A good distraction, a quick read in spite of the number of pages. Not much else to recommend it. A host of characters come and go without a word, too many get dead (gruesomely), and worst of all, Nina was pregnant but paid only lip-service to that fact. She still stuck herself and her unborn child in danger every chance she got. Glad she's not my mother!
For a thriller, it lives up to the genre. For a good, well-constructed plot that ties up loose ends? Meh

I love the Nina and Eddie series so much and this, the eleventh, is every bit as fabulous as I'd expected. Absolute belter of a thriller!

There's not much I love more than going on WILD adventures, CHASING bad guys and solving puzzles with the Wilde Chase family!

I was really looking forward to this book, and it was...good. Perhaps my expectations were to high, it just didn't seem to be what I was hopping for.
It had everything that makes these book great fun; action, Eddie's jokes, kidnapping, and someone who wants to take over the world. There was less archeology then previous books, which I missed. It's almost as if that was thrown in at the last minuet. I couldn't even imagine Josh Gates being involved in this plot.
My biggest grief was the antagonist was supposed to be ex-CIA. But the prologue in the beginning had him already spouting zealot language. I can't believe that someone like this being approved for field work in the CIA. So right off the bat I was having a hard time believing that Cross was serious threat.
Still, I enjoyed reading it, and it will sit on my shelf awaiting a future date when I'll read it again.

This is no literary prize winner here...but good lord it's an action-packed, heart-stopping wild ride. And I love it. You always know what to expect from Andy McDermott and he never fails to deliver. Love Eddie and Nina to death....especially in this book which also gives us some peeks at their leap into parenthood!! Bravo.

This is a solid entry into the Chase/Wilde series with a good plot, action and pace, but having said that, I feel there's something missing. Not too sure what it is, and there's some repetitive dialogue, especially with Nina reminding us that she's pregnant and wants food. Nina is a good character but come across a bit annoying and patronizing in this entry. Still, overall this book is well-researched and entertaining.

I really enjoy these books! Always a quick and non stop read! The problem I have with this one is the whole baby thing... I really hope the next one will be all about the baby, cause honestly? I really don't care about it.

Did not enjoy. Very far fetched and historical/biblical facts taken way out of context and incorrect. Although this is a novel it was just not what i expected. Loved his other books but not this one.😓

The book was very well written it kept the reader guessing throughout. It had a good mixture of real life and some extremes but the reader could relate to and feel part of the story. Enjoyed overall

While the Nina Wilde & Eddie Chase novels may not exactly be great literature, and are in no great danger is winning Andy McDermott a Pulitzer Prize, they are fantastic escapism adventures. Combining a little bit of Jack Bauer, Indiana Jones, and Dirk Pitt, they're globetrotting treasure hunts with the fate of the world at stake.
The Revelation Code is actually the 11th installment in the series, but they're all written with enough background detail to make them work as stand-alone adventures. As this point in their careers, Nina and Eddie are enjoying early retirement, awaiting the birth of their first child, and generally just trying to stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, trouble has a knack of finding them, and they soon find themselves kidnapped by a religious cult leader and a disgraced US President.
McDermott invests an impressive amount of effort in taking mythological stories and artifacts, creating a plausible history for them, and allowing the reader to get involved in the thrill of the chase without having to believe in the stories surrounding it. He never entirely discounts the possibility of faith, but I will say that his portrayal of Cross and his End of Days cult is the harshest condemnation of organized religion that we've come across in the series. These guys are scary, and their plans for the world are almost - I say, almost - as despicable as those of the ex-President.
There are plenty of big set pieces here, taking us around the world in the search for the angels (statues) of Revelation. True to form, there are also some big action sequences, with epic gunfights, helicopter attacks, and even a climactic encounter with a massive blimp. My only complaint about the book is that the climax is so clearly foreshadowed and so heavily teased in the opening chapters, although the execution of it is still a lot of fun.
The Revelation Code is a fun, frantic read that moves along at a breakneck pace, even through heavy scenes of torture, religious insanity, and political posturing. It's not the best in the series - Nina's pregnancy puts some unfortunate restraints on the story - but it's still big time popcorn adventure fun, complete with a dose of history and humor.

Βρήκα τυχαία αυτό το βιβλίο και το ξεκίνησα επειδή δεν είχα κάτι άλλο να διαβάσω εκείνη τη στιγμή.
Νομίζω ότι αν έχεις διαβάσει ένα σε αυτό το στιλ, τα έχεις διαβάσει όλα. Δεν είναι το είδος των βιβλίων που μου αρέσουν, αλλά τουλάχιστον σε κάποια η δράση σε κρατάει πιο πολύ. Εδώ μέχρι πιο πάνω από τα μισά, βαρέθηκα τη ζωή μου. Κοντά στις 300 σελίδες ανέβηκε ο ρυθμός κάπως και μου κίνησε πιο πολύ το ενδιαφέρον. 2μιση στα 5.
A disclaimer: I'm not a fan of this genre. I found this book abandonded by someone in my work place and I picked it up because I had nothing else to read at the time.
I find these books very predictable. Somehow they mix conspiracies with tons of violence and armoury and too two-dimensional characters, the evils too evils but dump too, the good guys always very good and super-humans, while if you 've ever read a couple of these novels, then you can predict most specifics of the plot on each one. Is the hero visiting a submarine for first time? Somewhere on the book, he will somehow manage to navigate the seas and drive a submarine while simultaneously throwing cool puns and fixing his hair. Is a casual hit on a spaceship mentioned somewhere in the book? Somewhere along the line the spaceship will be actively involved in the plot. Is our hero or heroine having doubts about their selves or their decisions? In reallity the situations that made them doubt their decisions or abilities to carry on a task or forced them to question their self-image, are mirrored again as the story progress, but somehow at the end, the heroes get reassured that they are doing fine and have nothing to worry about. And don't let me started on the rate the bodies fall on these books and how the authors treat this as a random fact without much consideration. A far too "American" approach if you know what I mean.
Anyhow, talking specifically about this book, setting all those issues aside, my problem is that it was too long and repetitive and boring till at least the 50-60% point. At least towards the end, the action picked up and it made for a still silly and predictable read, still full of hyperbole and impossibilities, but more enjoyable. It would be 1 out of 5 if not for the last 150-200 pages or so.
Now it's 2.5/5, all said and done...

The Revelation Code, by Andy McDermott, was originally published in April of 2016. Revelation is book 11 in Mr. McDermott's Nina Wilde & Eddie Chase Series. The story starts with our couple in a personal crisis. Nina no longer heads the IHA, she's pregnant, & has writers block. Poor Eddie can not do a single thing right. Before you know it they're off on another archeological adventure with plenty of danger. A cultist, calling himself The Prophet, Ezekiel Cross wants to bring on the apocalypse. He couldn't have a better name to be a religious zealot. Oh, he's ex-CIA too, so he's serious business. Nina & Eddie seem to have a hard time with this plot & so did I. I expected more mystery & blowing up of things. While still a good read it's not my favorite. The beginning dragged a little bit and never seemed to catch up.

Another exciting instalment of this archaeology action-adventure series. Bad guys want some historical McGuffins to do bad stuff 'cos they're nuts. This time it's different though, Nina is three months pregnant.
Seriously though, this was a lot of fun. The story kicked off without too much preamble and then it was a constant series of action, chases, falling off things, falling out of things and general mayhem. Just what you'd expect from a book in this series. There's also a fun nod to Indiana Jones - the reasoning for which sadly had much in the way of a follow up.
I had fun, what more can I say?

Since I took a long time in between reading book 10 and 11, I didn't mind the usual repetition of the plot that much. Mr McDermott found a schema for a plot that works, and he's been sticking to it in every single book I've read (so far): find some well-known location from a myth/movie/religion, add bad guys wanting to take over the world, lots of explosions, Nina solving the hardest riddles in minutes after almost no research to the topic, a LOT of similar jokes and punch lines...
But I do keep coming back, it is a perfect guilty pleasure read, and this book even tried to explore the ethical considerations and overall impact of Nina and Eddie's discoveries.

Religious zealotry to the extent of maniacal bigotry where scripture is manipulated to justify murder and mass slaughter. There are unpleasant echoes of the Jonestown in Guyana massacre where a religious leader murdered his followers. This makes for a disturbing storyline coupled with a former rogue CIA agent and a disgraced former President of the United States makes it all to believable. Couple it with an ancient weapon of mass destruction leads to a real page turner which holds the attention of the reader.

Nina Wilde and Eddy Chase going major crazy in an edge-of-the-seat white-knuckle-ride adventure with all the entertainment a person like me could hope for. Great characters, fantastic character analysis about leaders and followers, bound to get the reader thinking as to which side he wishes to be on. Overall, this is definitely one of the very best Nina-and-Eddy adventure I have read, even if there is a little bit of ‘unlikely’ in some of it. However, you will only find out once you get into the book, and I assure you, you will need to get to the end.

This book has pushed Andy McDermott up to the ranks of Dan Brown for me. Yes, he’s that good! At least to me he is. The secrets, the codes, the history….all add up to a hell of a good story. Plus you get some action, adventure, and suspense. Even though the book is long, it was (in my opinion) well researched, well thought out, and well written. Fan. For. Life!

Nina and Eddie seem to be able to turn an archaeological find into chaos and mayhem at the drop of a hat. This is no different, although they are forced into the situation by a religious fanatic. Can they survive the car and boat chases and out of control blimps to save the world once again? Will their baby be a boy or a girl? These questions are all answered in typical high action fashion.

I loved it! I loved the struggles that Nina was going through with her and Eddie as it brought an element of realism and though they were separated for most of the story, I felt so bad for both of them. I loved this book. A complete page turner! Laughed at most bits, shouted at others as I really hated the main bad guy, as we all go. New York is saved again!

Like Dan Brown, only with dialogue that doesn't make you cringe. Or Matthew Reilly, but without the excessive use of exclamation marks. Thoroughly enjoyed pretty much all eleven of these so far, and I'm just about to start number 12.

Great, once again! Thrill ride roller coaster from first to last page, yep! With a guy ripping out the larynx of another guy with his teeth, brains being spread over a windshield, another guy falling through the rotor of a helicopter, and a happy ending after all. Yep, great! Next one's coming?

I liked this one more than most. In part because Nina and Eddie get separated and each have to draw on the skills they have and the skills they learned. And while there are millions of secret knowledge adventures that use Revelation as a jumping off point, I'll give McDermott props for creativity.

I agree with the other reviewers who say that this book won't ever be considered great literature. That said, this was a really fun read. An enjoyable Wilde and Chase novel, this does have spoilers and references to previous installments. However, it's still very worth the read. In this adventure, Eddie and Nina are forced by a religous cult leader to hunt down the four beasts/angels of the apocalypse, the four who were bound and who forever proclaim God's majesty. In this, they're statues that contain bits of asteroid that when exposed to air create a poisonous gas.
As with all the books in this series, it reads like an action movie (why haven't they been mad into movies yet?) and is full of action, adventure, suspense and humor. The humor stems from the characters with Eddie being his usual humorous self. There is a fair bit of language (including a few f-bombs) and a few scenes of semi-graphic violence, so this isn't for younger kids. But, fans of Indiana Jones, Clive Cussler and Matthew Reilly will probably enjoy this.

This was, of course, high thrill ride adventure story but I had be worried that it was going to poke fun and or just twist the Bible to something it is not and claim it as truth. So thankful it did not and just allowed me to enjoy a good high adventure

Another quick witted fast paced read from Andy McDermott. The way he weaves his characters and different locations he sends them to makes you feel like you are there with Eddie and Nina.

Nina and Eddie are great protagonists - fun in the way that Dirk Pitt is. Not great literature, but a rolicking adventure!
