Classes and workshops are a great way to learn the skills that will let you take great photos, but they don't teach you how to be a photographer. In What They Didn't Teach You in Photo School , Demetrius Fordam will help you make the transition from talented amateur to respected pro, building your own personal brand and business on the way.
Passing on hard-earned lessons from a successful career in commercial, editorial and lifestyle photography, he shows how to snag the best internships and assistant roles, impress at an interview, develop an amazing portfolio, form strong relationships with clients, and lay the ground work for your own successful career. With a fresh design, and distinctive real-world photography, this the crucial companion that will make you, and your work, stand out.
I always argue that there's things you know, things you don't know, and things you don't know that you don't know. This book is a fantastic read for photographers at any level. From how to brand yourself, look for clients, to basic resources with information on pricing and portfolio critiquing, it's a good book to go through. Admittedly, a few things are dated (questioning the use of instagram and pinterest, for instance). But otherwise, I'd recommend it to any photographer. Especially one starting out or one who needs to brush up on some basic knowledge in the field or how to present/market themselves in this industry.
Pretty valuable life advice for passionate photographers. I recommend it for a better understanding of this world which is built of way much more than passion and talent.
Kind of lame ! Common knowledge and common sense was rampant in this book!i hardly ever regret buying a photo help book but this one was just a yawn and no originality !!
