My Thoughts - Story
What a beautiful love story along with a story about a girl just breaking out of her shell of protection. Shy is put in such a bad predicament but with the help of a few friends she meets along the way – she is able to learn to live and eventually love.

Not only did the author do a great job at developing the main characters but she also was able to do the same with the secondary ones. I found it so easy to fall in love with all the characters and even though I did feel that some of the story was a bit unbelievable, it was easy to look past because of the author’s writing and storytelling.

Now, let me set you up for the last 25% of this book…hold on and get ready for such an emotional time…I sobbed and just when I was ready to breathe a sigh of relief…I was crying again!

Re-Cap
Shy has had such a shitty childhood but finally gets a break to get away from it all. Ryder is her savior and pushes her to get out of her shell and open up to new people and act like her 21 years of age. One night she connects with a pair of girls who envelop her in their lives in college. With hunky guys living across the hall and a nerdy boy who pushes Shy to open up – she finally lets go and lives and loves.

Only to have her life crash down around her again…questioning if it was all worth it.

It didn't take long for me to start freaking out about Shy Kinda Love, the prologue just gutted me and I was hooked from there on.

Shyanne Adams's previous life was anything but pretty and because of that she's changed her name, where she lives, and her actions. Now that she has an opportunity to start fresh, she decides to be cautious and just lay low, yet the one person that has been with her through all of it is encouraging her to “live life".

Kade Cross is the boy next door in a sexy/nerdy way, and his sights are set on Shyanne Adams, the one that shies away from any kind of attention. Kade knows Shy is hiding something and he's willing to wait until she feels comfortable enough to share it with him. But until then he's going to show her that she can trust him.

This one was a little slow at first but once Kade made it clear that he was going to be pursuing her, he went all in and the story picked up. But just wait until about ¾ in to the book, because we are thrown in for a loop and oh my goodness, I didn't see that coming!! My attention was grabbed and I had to know how it ended... Did Shy and Kade get their chance at love? Will she be able to finally live life?

This book was really good and totally surprised me. I will definitely be looking out for more from Deanna Eshler! ~ Kara, 4 stars

**MEGAN'S REVIEW**

I actually started this review a few times. Not exactly sure how or what I wanted to say. I don’t want to say I hated this book or even that I didn’t like it. Because, I actually did like it- sort of.

Parts.

Parts I did enjoy, parts I didn’t. Parts that were too easy and parts that were obvious and predicable.

When I finished the prologue my first exact thought was WOW! Then wow, that was a lot and kind of too much. Once that prologue played out more during the read I believe that it set up this story entirely too much. I think vague and catchy would have let this story be the more it should have. I love the idea behind it, that’s for sure. Shyanne was made to live a life as a child and those who should have protected her just sat back. This was unreal. It also justified why Shyanne didn’t have wants and desires. The want to live and the desire to have something that makes her happy. She has one person who has not disappointed her. Her rock. Her Ryder. He helped or really insisted that she open up and live. Or at least try to.

“You start by deciding that you want to smile. Then you find the people and things that make you smile, and you allow them into your life.”

The minute I met Mr. Patron I fell for him. I loved him- the idea of him. I was so pleased with the fun and entertaining start to Kade and Shy’s relationship. I liked how he worked his way in all the while she was saying no. But, sorry, yeah I have a but….But when the relationship turned to quickly for my taste I didn’t enjoy them as much. When the word love was dropped I really wanted to check out.

“I can see it’s different for you too. When other guys touch you, you freeze, preparing to run. I notice when Ryder touched you, that fear response didn’t occur. Because I felt an unexplainable connection to you, I wanted to believe you felt it too. So, that first day, I laid my hand on your arm. Later, I tucked you hair behind your ear, I placed my hand on the small of your back when I whispered in your ear. All of those times you leaned into my touch, not away from it.”

“Over the past few weeks I’ve watched you, enjoyed you, laughed at you, and hurt for you. All of those moments were pulling at something inside of me, something that felt connected to you. This last week, knowing you were feeling it too… that connection pulled me so close I felt you all the time. When I wasn’t with you, I was thinking of you.”

There was a bit too much summarizing for me also. Kade had done some amazing things to help Shy break out some and I think if that would have been shown instead of told I would have felt their fall so much more. And it would be believable. I also think Kade got the shy end of the deal here. I would have loved to become more invested in his character. We quickly know he’s a nerdy book worm but really that’s his main core. I believe neither of them have much information on the other to truly fall completely.

Now, what I did 100% LOVE was a few side characters. When Shy’s new friends, literally, busted through her walls in an instant they were the best entertainment. Those were my favorite parts of reading this book. I will share my absolutely favorite line with you….. and it’s not even from the main characters!!!!

“I have a 7:50 class tomorrow morning so I need to his the sack.”

“This face is leaving in ten minutes and I want you on it.”

This was a hard core plot to adapt to and the flirting friendship was great but the heaviness of Shyanne’s situation wasn’t detailed in the right way for me. That prologue that starts it off, normally giving clues, here was pretty much the whole game.

Shy Kinda Love by Deanna Eshler

Shy Kinda Love is the story of Shyanne: a girl who loses everything (including herself). She has to learn to love and trust again, after closing all of her emotions off from everyone.

Shyanne is the first character we meet. She has been strong for way too long, but in doing so, she's shut off to everyone. She lives with her best friend, Ryder, who is the only person who knows what's happened to her and all she's endured in her rough life. Even showing Ryder emotion is hard for her, but luckily for her, he's pretty much able to read her like an open book.

Ryder forces Shyanne to go to the bar with him to celebrate her twenty-first birthday. Reluctantly, she goes, knowing there's no way to get out of this. She never expects to meet two new friends in the bar, of all places. But she does, and those two girls begin to help her healing process.

Also at the bar, she notices a guy - something she never lets herself do. She doesn't get interested; she thinks all guys do is cause pain and that they all use women, like she was used. Her and her newfound friends nickname the guy Patron, due to his drink choice. She goes out on a limb after knowing the girls for a short time and she moves in with them. What she doesn't expect is that guy to end up being her new housemate.

Shyanne doesn't do well with sharing things about her life or even trusting people enough to get to that point. It surprises her when she wants to share things with all her new housemates, and that's the point where she allows herself to start healing.

**

I loved this story. I thought from the get-go that because of Shyanne and Ryder's connection that it was going to be another one of those stories where the girl falls in love with her best friend, after denying her feelings for so long. It ended up being so much more than that!

I loved the growth that you see in Shyanne. While some of the things that happened are quite unbelievable, it wasn't unbelievable enough to be completely unrealistic. You notice all of her relationships evolve and you can't help but to root for her to fall head over heels in love with Kade.

There's quite a few twists and turns along the way and one particular part that had me ugly crying. Pretty sure I looked like Farrah from Teen Mom with that part, but you get so wrapped up emotionally with the characters that you can't help it. It's also completely unexpected when it happens, so it hits you right where it hurts.

I also feel like the writing flowed really well. It was very easy to get the mental picture of everything that was happening, which is sometimes hard to do. The author painted a really good picture of everything and the way she wrote helped to secure your connection with the characters. If I had my way, Shyanne's story would continue!

If you're looking for a quick read that pulls at your heartstrings and gets you invested with the characters from the beginning, then this book is for you!

As a new adult fan, I was excited to see what Deanna could bring to the genre. I had the pleasure of meeting Deanna two years ago at a Colleen Hoover signing and we bonded over our love for all things new adult. She contacted me a little bit later asking if I wanted to read her book and I couldn't resist. I mean, just look at that cover! That being said, though, my review is (as always) completely honest and is in no way swayed by the fact that I personally know this author.

Shyanne Adams wasn't always Shyanne Adams. That's the witness protection identity she received after finally standing up to her father and the men her father let use her for her body. Broken and untrusting, Shyanne lives the next three years seeking solace with her horses and her best friend Ryker. When Kade Cross appears in her life, though, Shyanne starts shedding her guarded layers and finds herself making friends and learning to trust others. As soon as she let's go of the pain of her past, though, it comes rushing back, reminding her of who she used to be…

Holy moly, talk about an emotional new adult. Shyanne was seriously damaged because of her father, so she was so broken and found it very hard to trust others. I loved the moment she met Kade, aka Patron, and was freaked out over having feelings over someone. Kade is the image of my perfect guy- nerdy, smart, caring, and impossibly good looking. My only problem with Kade, though, is that I felt like we barely got to know anything about him! What did he used to do before Shyanne got there and where was he from and what was his family like? I felt like his only identity was that he was a nerd and I wish that we got to know him as much as we had gotten to know Shyanne.

But back to the emotion. There were some very, very intense scenes in this book, especially near the end when Shyanne's past started to catch up to her. And how connected Shyanne was with her horses? So heartwarming and heartbreaking. I loved how Shyanne used her own broken past to connect with broken horses. Any book with animals just completely steals my heart. Oh, and I can't forget Shyanne's newfound friends! Keagen and Gemma were amazing characters and I loved the flare they added to the story.

Overall, this was a stellar debut from Deanna Eshler. She brought the emotions, fun characters, and a heartbreaking romance. While it leaned on being the cliche-broken-girl-new-adult, it held it's own and added lovable elements like the horses and Kade's adorable character. If you want an emotional new adult full of growth and a tender relationship, you should pick up Shy Kinda Love.

Shy Kinda Love is a beautiful and emotional story of a young woman forced into the Witness Protection Program in order to escape the atrocious abuse she had suffered for years. Her friend, Ryder, saved her life and helped her to start a new one, to become Shyanne. Ryder and Shy are now roommates and trying to live a normal life. Ryder wants Shy to open up, to live her life instead of hiding away. Shy finds a rewarding job at a horse farm caring for the horse she rescued and helping train other horses. After some time Shy finally moves in with some new friends and next door to Kade, a guy she felt a pull towards during a night out with Ryder. Will she be able to move on from the past and allow herself to open up to Kade? Even if she can, will the dangers from her past allow her to?
I really enjoyed this book and I was shocked that this was Deanna Eshler's debut novel. I felt that it was very well written, the characters were fully developed, the storyline was interesting and engaging, and I loved watching the characters and their relationships grow and change throughout the story. Not only were her main characters interesting and well rounded but so were her secondary characters.
I liked Shy. She was damaged and had some issues but she was also strong and brave. I was able to connect with her throughout her journey.
I really loved Kade. It's nice to see the "good guy" as the main male character. I have nothing against bad boys but I've read so many of them and Kade was a nice change. He was smart, kind, patient, strong, and super sexy. I loved that he was so perfect without being the pushover that good guys tend to be in books.
Eshler had me burning through the pages. Not only was this a sweet story of self discovery and romance, but the feeling of suspense weaves itself into the story effectively. I was always aware that there was danger lurking and wondering if and when it would show itself.
I really loved this book and look forward to more from Deanna Eshler in the future. Perhaps there will be more of Ryder, or Gemma, or Keegan and Adrian...

I received a free e copy of this book in return for writing an honest review.

The first thing of note about this book is the subtle way in which Shyanna's past is revealed. Her past is central to the main theme, well, it is the main theme really, and I appreciated how the author respected the reader's ability to understand this. The prologue gives the barest of detail, then more is slowly revealed as we follow Shy's journey. I thought her character development was very well thought out and crafted.

The second is the way in which Shy's painful difficulty in forming relationships is handled. Writing in the first person is an ideal story telling device here. How can someone who has been sexually abused have a healthy sexual relationship? This is a gentle love story and Shy's personal growth is treated with the sensitivity needed for her circumstances.

However, this is much more than a story of love between a man and a woman. The importance of horses to rehabilitation is also an important theme but it is only as Shy learns to love her friends, and to interact with people that she begins to fight her self loathing.

I enjoyed the thoroughness and patience with which the author explored Shy's character and her development. Writing in the first person is an ideal device for this.

However, I was disappointed towards the end of the book. The plot moved too quickly and Shy's account and involvement lacked emotion and suspense. Shy's changing relationship with her father needed much more attention and needed to evolve more slowly. The metaphors and analogies, though appropriate, were unsubtle and so felt uncomfortable. I would have preferred the book to have been longer rather than rushed to a contrived ending.

I struggled with rating this book. The end really let it down. However, the theme, Shy's character development, and the sensitive treatment of her sexuality won me over. It scraped in with four stars.

*Huge thanks to WordSlinger Publicity for providing a copy to review. All thoughts are 100% my own*

This book has all the elements of a heart wrenching story, but I kind of ruined that emotional ride for myself. I've had this on my kindle for some while and I've picked it up and read it in sections. I read a huge chunk of the book back in August and afterwards it got pushed back until I picked back up in December. When I finally opened the book again, I could barely remember the plot of the story and I got in confused with another story.

The romance is absolutely heart wrenching with a swoon worthy male protagonist. The relationship is the one that everyone wants with a I'll-love-you-til-my-last-breath type of romance. To continue on with the whole "I lost track" theme, I didn't really feel anything towards the relationship and while it was definitely heart warming, it also felt very bland and unbelievable. I would love to think that there were guys like Kade who would go to the extremes that he did, but compared to all the other NA books with similar characters, this one didn't stand out too much.

Shyanne embodies the character with a broken past. She's been through a lot of crap and it was definitely uplifting to see her heal and piece back together the many pieces of her. Similar to Kade, I didn't feel much for other than just generally liking her character. Her compassion for other people, particularly horses, was definitely a heart warming attribute to her as a character.

The suspense in the story is definitely present throughout the entire story, but again, I just lost touch with everything that was going on. All in all, this book was decent and it would have been better if I didn't ruin it for myself by leaving such a huge gap.

***ARC PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***

I’m not sure where to start on this review. I didn’t hate nor love this book. It started out very promising and steadily lost the fizzle along the way. I felt both the characters and the story were missing real heart – everything was in place and in motion but they really had no soul. Her friends and love interest were there to almost fill obligatory roles and there was no real depth to them. I couldn’t really feel the magnitude of the central trauma because the recounting sounded detached and clinical. And everything happened so chronologically fast in the story that I felt no true connection between the characters (I mean…. He was in love after a couple weeks…). And at times, I found the characters to be very juvenile and silly. But I guess that’s a bit expected when they are college aged…. I also found the way the main character handled her issues to be very annoying and immature.

I don’t want to sound like I’m completely trashing the book because it did have its moments where I was made to reflect or just flat out enjoy. Overall, it was a decent read for those who want a pretty typical, light NA novel with a little bit of mystery.

Shyanne Adams hasn't had an easy life. Her best friend died when she was 11, her mom abandoned her when she was 21 and her dad used her to pay off his debts until she was 18. Escaping her life and going into the witness protection program with her best friend Ryder, was an easy thing for her to do. From that momemt on, Shyanne made a resolution to never live, laugh, or let anyone get too close.

But one night on the town for her birthday changes everything. Shyanne picks up two friends, Gemma and Keegan, who bring her out of her shell and her intense new neighbor Kade, who is determined to break down her walls and win her heart. After opening up to her new friends, someone from her past emerges and Shyanne is again forced to run leaving behind everything that she holds dear.

The prologue started this book off with a bang but then it just became the cliche new adult story of the sensitive, hot guy saving the girl with the tortured past. Kade was an angel but I feel like we never get to know him or the other side characters in the book. 3* for Shyanne's story because it was heartbreaking and real.

I received a complimentary e-copy of Shy Kinda Love in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely without a doubt love love loved this book. From page one, it packed a punch and while I thought that Nicole's relationship with Ryder was going to go down a different path than it did, it all worked for me.

Her strength was amazing to be able to fight back and finally give in to Ryder's demands that she start living again. I loved Kade from the first meeting and I love how from the start he gave her what she needed, first with space and then the promise that no matter what ugly truth she was keeping from him, that it wouldn't change things between him.

and then came the ugly tears... It's been quite awhile since a book moved me enough for ugly tears!! I'm just grateful that I was at home when I got to them and not sitting in the ice rink lobby like you like I typically am on a weekday evening!!

For her first book, Deanna Eshler nailed this one and I will be looking forward to reading more from her in the future!!

Must read

I loved this story from the prologue. It's uniqueness drew me to continue reading the whole book in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. I loved Shy's story. She goes through a lot and just when you think life is going to get better for her something knocks her back down. I loved Kade's character and I so wish we could have had his POV. Their connection and ultimately their love gets them through some pretty tough times. This book has amazing characters and an amazing plot. I can't wait for more from this author.

Received from the author for a honest review. More 2 1/2 start. Shyanne was making anew stat with her new life. After the tough start all she wants is a horse and to be left alone. Ryder thinks she needs to live more. Shy doesn't want to live to just lose.
This book starts good but kind of flattens out in the middle, then ends nicely tied together. I liked the storyline but found I wanted something more with the led characters. I felt like it kept trying to give you the usual love story drama but just didn't quite get there.

Shy Kinda Love was amazing! I feel in love with the characters. Shyanne feels that she is broken beyond repair. Lucky for her she has two men who are willing to show her differently. Ryder is strong and protective, Kade is understanding and patient. Fair warning there were tears while reading this one. Shy Kinda Love was well written and needs to be added to your TBR.

Well... Where do I start?
This book was given to me by the sweet Deanna Eshler in exchange for an honest review. I'm sorry, but I couldn't stop fangirling with her in every e-mail I sent updating her on my reading experience.
First of all let me tell you that I beta-read for several authors and none of them pulled me into the story as fast as this lady did. Her story-telling is BRILLIANT. The writing style was simple, but beautiful
Shy Kinda Love is a plot-driven story about tough choices, guilt, healing, friendship, family, sexuality, and of course, LOVE. (And horses. A lot of pretty, cute, sweet horses. Now I want one!)

I loved our heroine, Shyanne. She's likable, even when she's being a bitch. I get her, I understand her.

Kade, our hero, is so cute it makes me want a nerdy guy too. WHERE IS MY KADE? I WANT ONE!

I am so intrigued by the secondary characters that I want their story too! Gemma, Keegan, EVERYONE! They feel like REAL people. (I WANT KEEGAN'S STORY. PRETTY PLEASE WITH A ZOMBIE ON TOP.)
Don't get me started on Ryder. SUCH A GOOD BFF! He is amazing to Shyanne.
READ THIS. NOW. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE WAITING.

shyShy Kinda Love by Deanna Eshler

Independently Published via Createspace February 2015

Genre: New Adult Contemporary/Romance

Read via Audible

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Deanna reached out to me via email and we had a wonderful exchange pertaining to the horse slaughter pipeline. I do not normally read romance novels, and Deanna knew this, but asked me to read it more from a horse rescue viewpoint, so I obliged, because horses, duh!

Goodreads Summary:
"When I was eleven, my best friend died in a car accident. When I was twelve, my mom walked out, leaving only a note to say goodbye. When I was eighteen, I was forced into witness protection.

My new name is Shyanne Adams. To protect myself, and painless existence, I do not live. I do not laugh. I do not love. For the last three years, the only meaningful thing I’ve done is care for the horse I rescued.

But now, at the age of twenty-one, the one person from both my past and present is pushing me to start living. Before I know it, I’m moving in with new friends who make me laugh. And next door is Kade Cross, the guy who wants me to love."

Initial Thoughts:

Mostly enjoyable, particularly the aspects relating to horse rescue and therapy for at risk youth. Some clichè/head shaking moments, but the psychological aspect of a victim mindset made up for them. The book moves very fast, but not annoyingly so. Needed more horse rescue back story for Shy and Walker, because there's never enough horsey action!

What I Liked:

The author is a trained social worker and holds certifications in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. This was very apparent in the portions of the book pertaining to the psyche of the sexual assault victim and the gritty details of Equine Therapy. I love when authors actually do their research on a main topic in their book. Major brownie points in my book for that! Also, my entire horsey life is summed up in this one quote from the book "Horses are the only thing that make me dreamy." :)

On another horsey note, at some point in the book there is a rescue horse that turns out to be one of my all time favorite breeds and I had a bit of a freak out moment when the breed was discovered. I can't say much more due to spoilers...but I was a happy pony lover! *Ok hint, google the Spanische Reitschule*

What I Didn't Like:

Ok, so I do not really read romance novels. I just...can't. I'm a pretty jaded person despite my amazing relationship with my boyfriend. As in, I want to be married in my backyard with my animals, and like 3 guests. I may even wear my Ariat boots. That being said, I still gave the book a try.

The romance sections are what I expect of a typical New Adult/Romance. I didn't like these sections, but I can appreciate that they were written well. This is more a matter of personal taste. A few times I was thinking "oh come on, really?!" But again, I do that in real life, even when it's about my best friends because I'm not an overly romantic person.

Also, the over abundance of college aged male antics got on my nerves. I went to a woman's college next door to an engineering school that had many fraternities. So I spent more than a few weekends at these parties. 18-21 year old males just really irritate me. It is actually a credit to Deanna's skills that her characters got on my nerves so much, because they really reminded me of people I knew in college. There is one line in particular where she describes the look and smell of a fraternity house and it is so 100% accurate that I had to laugh. Those houses are nasty.

Overall:

Shy Kinda Love is a well written, well researched NA romance novel that I enjoyed despite my almost hatred of romance novels. I could have done without all the male bantering and antics. I can see how some people would love these characters, but I was all like "more horsey action please!" The insight into the trauma and healing process of sexual assault victims was a new reading topic for me, and I enjoyed it.

Who Should Read It?

Anyone wanting a mostly light read, with a few chapters of heavy sexual assault material. For anyone who enjoys NA romance, as this has more meat and bone than the typical fluffy romance. Or, anyone wanting to see how Equine Therapy can help trauma victims rehabilitate to a normal life.

Rating:

Solid 3/5 Stars. Could've been a 3.5 if it had more about how Shy rescued and rehabbed Walker since she had no experience with horses prior to that.

So, well, all the thought that I will write here are my own and I won’t be exaggerating anything. Now let me get back to the review. I can’t say I didn’t like the book, but I didn’t really enjoy it so much. I men, I lost the interest at least twice and I had this could-you-make-some-development king of feeling. I understand that the author’s main focus was Shy’s feelings and her emotional trauma. But while I always wail that there’s not much if interaction between the lovers, her it was too much. The “action” starts at nearly the end of the book, and I couldn’t really call it action. It was too fast. One thing that I can say certainly is that the author got better at the end of the book. I could finally feel Shy’s emotions; maybe it was because I had a whole picture, but I just think that author her niche and knew how to portray Shyanne.

There are many interesting characters; thought 90% of them frustrated me a lot. Two of them were Adrian and Keegan – a silly couple. I really didn’t get Adrian, was he a bit masochistic or what? I breathed a sign of relief when in the Epilogue he left for Texas. Though I would have [referred him to go to Mexico. Keegan if you ask me is the worst character; her but-I-am-giving-you-free-excitement attitude never even put a smile on my face. I just wanted to slap her and give her a lecture on proper behavior. It had been a long time since a character annoyed me so much. I think the best character was Kade, tough he’s a tad weird for wanting all of that in his life. But I forgive him, because he was in love. What I did like about him was his attitude and perfect behavior. Though you might find his stunts a bit annoying, like crawling into Shy’s bed, he still left me with good impression. He was what 21, 22? How the hell was he so mature? Most of the guys that I know of that age are still like high-school kids, just pretending to act mature.

Another great thing that this novel has is, how it described the starting of Kade’s and Shy’s relationship. I really liked it. How one was on defensive and another on offensive, how Kade finally slipped thought the walls of Shy’s heart/ thought she did make one thing that made me scream, but I’m not spoiling that too. It’s better to read for yourself. As I always say, my reviews are reflections of my and only my thoughts, and my opinions doesn’t clash with everyone else’s all that often. You may find this book one o the best romances ever, that’s your opinion, but first give it a chance, don’t overlook it just because it didn’t meet my expectations. (And those are always pretty high and not always met fully)

Enjoy it to its fullest! Get to know some great characters and don’t forget to share your thoughts below!

You are about to embark on a beautiful journey of a woman named Shyanne. It wasn’t pretty in the beginning. From the first page you will see the devastation she faces and the betrayal of the one person who should have protected her. Events will happen swiftly that will force her to lose everything, even her own name and identity, but it also will offer her a new beginning. She is now knocking on the door of a real second chance at life to find her dreams and fulfill them.
Ryder is her best friend/big brother type. He will be by her side as she finds her courage to look at life and engage again. He knows the boundaries Shy has set up for her life now; she isn’t willing to risk losing everything again so she won’t allow anything or anyone to bring her happiness. You can’t miss what you never had, but Ryder will push those boundaries and force her to take a chance again.
Along this path she meets Gemma and Keegan, a wonderful yin yang set of women who bring laugher and chaos to Shy’s life. Gemma is the sweet girl who sees nothing but good in people and in life. She will help Shy find the positive again while Keegan is the ornery one who has no problem belting out punishment for wrong deeds and living life to the fullest on her terms. She will offer Shy a chance to live and have fun.
Kade will be the IT man. He has dreams for his future, big plans and he is willing to find a place for Shy to fit in perfectly, even with her past. Now he just has to convince Shy that she won’t ruin his life, she can only bless it if she would just let go of seeing everything in black and white. In her world there are only three outcomes to everything, loss, pain or alone and she is going to be the one to pick which outcome she will get……..alone.
I really loved how the author wrote this story, there wasn’t an over load of drama that just took away from the real emotions of love, forgiveness and reconstructing her life. Out of everything that happens in this journey the one that touched my heart was about her dreams in life. When asked what one thing she wanted to do was, she threw out working with horses. Little did she know that was going to end up being the missing piece of who she was. She found her value and purpose and it was beautiful.
If you are looking for a feel good story about a young girl who took the abuse life handed her and made a beautiful life out of it then this is the book for you. I was so impressed with how the author delivered this plot to the readers, I will certainly be looking for more of her books. Her style invited the reader to experience the events and love the characters. Make sure you check this one out.

Shy Kinda Love is an emotional story that lacks in no center. Strong voiced and intriguing characters kept me turning page after page as did Shyanne's story with all the plot twists and mysteries it had. More than that, I fell in love how it is a story about healing and learning to live again and not just a pointless romance. The romance aspect it there and it is a huge part of the story but there's so many other aspects and things that doesn't encircle around the romance. Shyanne's past and the horrors it has are dealt with and it truly is a story about healing and learning to take risks - to acknowledge that sometimes you have to take a risk for happiness even though it can cause pain if you lose it. I devoured the book simply because I couldn't stop turning the pages as I love almost everything it had in it.

Sadly, there is one thing I didn't like in the story: I couldn't stand Keegan. She was an okay friend for Shyanne but that's not what bothered me; what bothered and irritated me was how Keegan treated guys. She was rude to them and judgemental towards them. She judged Luke and always though worst of him and she treated Adrian badly even though she really had no reason - especially since everyone seemed to think they were perfect together. However, otherwise I pretty much fell in love with Eshler's characters; Isaac was adorable and I wish all the best for him, Gemma was really nice person, and I really need a guy like Kade as he was smart, witty and lovable, and I need more of Ryder, pretty please? Ryder definitely should get a book of his own as a lot about his life was left as a mystery and I'd love to learn more about him. For a main character, Shyanne was good choice and she had a strong voice. She was strong and independent and I loved how she had flaws and those was pointed out by her and others. She wasn't perfect girl like so many other New Adult genre heroines and it so refreshing!

I highly recommend Shy Kinda Love if New Adult contemporary romance is your thing - and maybe even if it's not since Shy Kinda Love has so many things mainstream NA stories don't have: realistic characters and it had other aspects than the pointless romance. Now, if there'd be a story about Ryder, I'd be really pleased. Let's hope that will happen one day!

description

5 FLYING HORSES stars!
The writing style was simple, but beautiful.

How she listens to him, and actually tries to be happy. She understands where he is coming from, and tries to live.

READ THIS. NOW. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE WAITING FOR.

This is a beautiful, sad, happy story.

Shy is a strong young woman. Her childhood was tough. Growing up, the one person that was supposed to protect her let her down. Despite everything she has been through she has a loving heart, but it's guarded. She keeps it safe deep down in her soul. She has lost so much in her life; she doesn't let herself love others or get close, she knows she might lose it all any time. We see her grow and blossom into a stronger woman, accepting life on its terms.

Ryder is her protector, the one person that knows about her past and he will do anything to stop her hurting. He is the only person that deeply knows her and she cannot fool him. He pushes her limits; pushes her to live life in the now.

Keegan and Gemma the two friends that get Shy to move on. They don't ask questions; they completely accept Shy. They make her laugh and love her unconditionally. Keegan is sassy and funny with no filter. Gemma is sweet and cheery. There is one scene where they are all sitting down at the table to eat and Keegan does something that just makes me laugh so hard and loud! No spoiler here, you will have to read the book to find out.

Then there are the boys, even Luke, the womanizer comes out looking good, But, Kade is the one. Beautiful, loving and patient Kade. He loves Shy fiercely and with his whole heart. He gives her his all and he takes everything she dishes out. There are moments that break him, but only to show how strong he really is.

This story touched me in a very deep and special way. I shed tears of joy and tears of sadness. There are sad and tender moments that made me cry. Then there are moments so funny that I burst out laughing loud and hard. Then there is the looming suspense and the past comes knocking; throwing everything off kilter. The turnaround had me holding my breath and I have a few new wrinkles on my forehead, but, it was worth it.

Shy Kinda Love is a must read. Love and patience will conquer fear.

This was a really sweet and tragic tale. Nicole Redding has had a pretty traumatic life. When she was 11 years old her best friend and her best friend's parents died in a car accident. At the age of 12, her mother walked out of her life without saying goodbye and then when she was fourteen she started being raped by her father's associates. This happened until the night before her 18th birthday and she couldn't take it anymore. So she tries to fight back and ends up killing a man. Her best friend Ryder who was the brother of her best friend that died when she was 11 is still in her life. He's military and he does what he can to protect her. He sets it up so she is put in Witness Protection. She becomes Shyanne Adams. She tries her best to not make friends or any other attachments because she worries all the time of being sent somewhere else. Against her better judgment she meets two girls and they become friends. She tries to not get attached but the girls won't take no for an answer and they become friends. She ends up moving in with them and through them she meets Kade Cross.

Shyanne has been dealt a pretty bad life. All she wanted was the love of her mother and father. Her mother left her when she was 12 and she has never gotten over that. She only wanted her father to love and protect her. But it seemed he let her pay his debts. She has been through so much but she still goes on living. Somedays she just survives but she finds ways to live. She is also referred to as a runner - she runs from bad situations and feelings. She has taken in an abused horse and she has brought him back to life. She is also learning to train horses and to help rehab them.

Kade is gorgeous and very intelligent. He has so many useless facts in his head and shares them all the time. He has plans for the future, becoming a FBI computer analyst. He knows that Shyanne is different and that he has to be careful with her. He finds ways to be there for her without putting pressure on her. His love for her is so strong and he will do anything for her.

Definitely worth reading.

Nicole lived through a hell you wouldn't wish upon your worst enemy, betrayed by the one man that should of always protected her, her father, when the nightmare she is living comes to a heinous end she is finally provided with a chance at a new life. In witness protection she can become someone else, with a clean slate and a new name, the girl that once was Nicole is now Shyanne, and with the support of her childhood protector Ryder she is given a new chance to become the girl she could of been before life destroyed her.

Years after relocating, Shyanne is still living a life of quiet solitude, she's lost in the grief of her past, struggling to just get through her days while caring for the horses that have to mean everything to her, the more Ryder pushes her to find herself outside of her pain and grief and to live the life of a normal 21 year old. With new friends, a new apartment and the new next door neighbour Kade.

Shy Kinda Love has this beautiful quality to it that draws you in, Shy with her beautiful fragility to her, but it's her vulnerability that sets her apart, it's her strength, her ability to weather even the darkest storms that makes her so easy to love, I fell in love with her flaws and her pain and her self doubt, with her selflessness and her need to safe guard her heart from future pain. Despite my absolute adoration for Shy, and my intrigue in Kade and his ability to see deeper into her than most, I found myself waning in my connection to the story. I went through stages where I was so utterly invested where I couldn't put the book down or walk away and then moments where I felt almost lost as I tried to regain that sense of connection.

Ultimately I really enjoyed Shy Kinda Love, I loved the growth the reader is able to witness as Nicole changes to Shyanne and eventually finds that there's more to her life than just pain, and hurt and betrayal. I'm intrigued to see if Eshler has more planned for Shy and Kade and for the rest of the characters we get to meet here.

Nicole's life has not been all cheery and rosy since she was eleven years old, when she was eleven she first discovered what it was like to lose someone she loves when her best friend died in a car crash. The next person she lost was her mother when she was twelve years old and from there on her life led into a downward spiral as her dad got wrapped up in some bad decisions which involved human trafficking and in order for her Dad to pay off his debts to the bad guys, he started pimping out his daughter . This went on till one day when she was eighteen, she snapped and ended up killing her attacker and wounding another. This was the day that her best friend Ryder who was the older brother of her friend that died in the car crash saved her. Nicole then went into the Witness Protection Programme and changed her name to Shyanne aka Shy. For the next four years she will live a quiet life - just Ryder and her horses but on her 21st birthday, that will all change and her life will set down a new course when Ryder takes her out to celebrate. It is that night where she first meets Keegan and Gemma who later she moves in with , that night she also spots the cute guy known as "Patron" aka Kade Cross who later becomes her next door neighbour. Shy -- since being in the Witness Protection Programme has always put walls up, but what will happen when Kade wants to be the one to knock them down ? Can Shy afford to get close to Kade not knowing what her future may hold especially when his dream is to be in the FBI and his career choices mean he has to keep on the straight and narrow ?

This was an emotional read in parts and definitely not a book for someone wanting a sweet contemporary romance as it's anything but. This is the type of book that will show readers that someone out there when things get tough remember that , there is always someone worse off than you and if they can be strong and survive - then you certainly can.

Thank you to the author who provided me with a copy of the book for a honest review.

This was an emotional read and I teared up at many parts. My heart broke for Shyanne for all she went through. Kade oh Kade I looooved him definitely my favorite part and character of the book. He was perfect and I just loved how he is a nerd<3. Where can I get a Kade in this life? :( sigh. I loved how their relationship progressed and it wasn't rushed. Their chemistry was intense. Love it. Actually Kade was intense ;) That whole flying horse thing was the sweetest!

I also loved Ryder's character a lot. And I loved his bond with Shyanne,it was really sweet. Keegan was a firecracker and hilarious!

But I had major issues with

Shyanne hasn't had it easy, but betrayal didn't break her. She pulled herself up and faced life head on.

I fell in love with this book for many reasons. Shyanne is a character who grows emotionally throughout the chapters and her tough yet sensitive demeanor had this reader rooting for her happiness and a resolution to her problems with the swipe of every page. Kade is also a complex character but his feelings for Shyanne and the sexyness steaming from each of his paragraphs made him a book boyfriend I won't soon forget. There is a crew of support characters, and again I was happily surprised to be drawn to each one of them with the intensity I was attached to Shyanne. Ryder plays a big brother role and never deviates from his fierce loyalty to Shy. Gemma and Keegan the fun friends who press Shy until she agrees to live life again and not watch it pass by--these two had me laughing aloud at times. Just when the story had a warm fuzzy vibe , events twisted around and fresh drama unfolded leaving me staying up far too late in the night because I couldn't put it down.
