This is a quick read, just 4 chapters.

Maybe it was the day in which Brainerd lived but I was struck with the tone of much of his early journal. I certainly get the “I am vile, nothing more than a worm” sort of thinking. But it seemed he struggled to find the joy of his salvation. Maybe I’m off base. I’m ready to listen to some other voice of reason.

You cannot argue with the self-sacrifice of Brainerd especially in his efforts to reach the Indians. Often traveling many miles in all kinds of weather, often sleeping outside without adequate housing, & without much food it appears. No wonder his body broke. In a day where there is so little self-sacrifice, his life stands out as a shining light.

Though the book was rather hard to follow, it portrayed what spiritual and physical troubles the missionary David Brainerd endured while witnessing of the gospel.
