Short novella, I think maybe 50-60 pages. Too short. I didn't like this novella much. It felt rushed and one key aspect I need when reading, believability, was sorely lacking.
Jacqueline is trying to her her sister and her brother-in-law after he is blamed for something he didn't do but isn't solely without blame for happening. Her plan is to crash a high stakes poker game held by the ex-boss, Race Danner.
She loses her money, her dress and her integrity. He is intrigued though and makes it so she will see him again. From there they have sex, but in the morning he is gone, no talk about the brother-in-law. She tries to reach him but is rebuffed by his secretary. Enraged she goes back tot he next poker game and after confronting him is made to submit to his desires as part of the deal to free her brother-in-law.
The story is 56 pages long and rushed. I mean he is telling her he wants to make love to her. On date 2?

My Thoughts
This was a rather short little novella but i think that sometimes that's exactly what i need. especially when i get home from work late and just need a little something to help me fall asleep. (don't take that comment to mean that i found the book to be boring, juts that sometimes it's really helpful to read if i want to go to sleep).
In any event, what we have here is a nice intro to a new series, where we have a masterful billionaire who clearly knows what he wants in bed and what he wants in a woman, and we have a leading lady who is willing to do whatever she can to help out her family. In this instance, it's trying to convince Race to drop charges against her brother in law so that her sister doesn't have to raise their kids alone.
Suffice it to say, it's all quite expected - the progression of this story - and the only real issue that i have is that since it's so short, we just right into things and there's no build-up of the will they won't they. you know that it's going to happen, and when Race intros things as being erotic and kinky, you know that's exactly what you're going to get. The experience of a lifetime for a girl that's never really experienced much.
All that in mind, it was enjoyable and i think that there are great things to come in this series - assuming that we get to the crux of what makes each of them tick. In the meantime, we'll get some great scening, we'll get to play in Race's playroom a bit more i'm sure - and if nothing else happens, we'll have some chemistry and steam that makes you want to take a cold shower

A quick steamy read. It's straight to the point with some light BDSM. Nothing too intense. It's good considering how short it was, but nothing new or mind blowing.
Overall it was a satisfying read.

Jacqueline is trying to sneak her way into an exclusive poker game where she intends to seduce needed time speaking with one very important person, Race Danner. Her sister’s husband is in trouble and it’s up to Race to drop the charges. If only Jacqueline can get time to explain the situation. But Race is bored and Jacqueline proves quite a delicious distraction as he shows her how to submit to him. He keeps her quite busy, in fact, where at the end she finally gets his attention. Lots of steamy play. It’s not romance but fun to read. First book in the Mastered By series.

This was a sexy and hot read! Our heroine shows up to ask the billionaire to save her brother-in-laws job, so that her pregnant sister won't end up with an employed husband and two toddlers. Jacquie quickly learns she is outwitted and still didn't meet her goal. Finally, everything comes together and she snags the billionaire
Two things I had an issue with, one, Race would've done his research on Jacquie before she returned the next day, not the next week, and, he did avoid her, and would've invited her over before she left for work. Other than that, a great story within the trope!

I won this novella in a Goodreads Giveaway. I read this as a palette cleanser between books. It was ok for a novella, but it was very rushed. The idea would work as a novel, it's a shame the author didn't invest more into the story.

It seems that i read a book full of porn instead of good storyline. It was so same to others books and the sex scene was not intriguing at all.
Lucky it was so short that i read in 30 minutes cause the sex scene feels like repetitive one.

Played by the Master was a fun, very hot and sexy enjoyable read. A quick, romp with a sexy billionaire. Who wouldn't enjoy that? And Opal is a brilliant writer, so be aware that the sex scenes will be extremely well written and scorch right off the page.

She is desperate to help her pregnant sister's husband get out of hot water with his boss, Race Danner, billionaire owner of Danner Industries. It seems her brother-in-law was facing charges for something he didn't do, and Jacquie needed to convince Mr. Danner to drop the charges.
She decides to ask for a favor and gets herself into Danner's high stakes poker game. Instead of being kicked out for not being on the invite list, Race decides to play a much more private game with Jacquie where the stakes are very different.Can she get the charges dropped? And just what will she be bargaining with?
You'll have to get the book to find out. And you'll be glad you did. Played by the Master was a fun, very hot and sexy enjoyable read. It was somewhat short, but I like stories like that. Mastered by the Player is a hot, short read from this talented author. Opal Carew is so good at creating sexy, dominant alpha males who make me want to swoon - or fall to my knees in front of them! - and the hero of this book is no exception.
Jacqueline wants to help her sister, but to do this she will need to talk to Race Danner. She manages to find a way into a high stakes poker game held by Race, and the sexy billionaire is enchanted by the beautiful woman who could be just what he's looking for to ease the boredom that he's been feeling lately. The game that follows is anything but boring and makes for sexy, fun reading.
I liked both main characters and enjoyed the chemistry between them. I'd love there to be a sequel to this book so we can see how the relationship between them develops. As always in Opal's books the sex scenes are fabulous and scorching hot. I enjoyed this story and give it five out of five stars.

Our heroine sneaks into a billionaire's private poker game to beg for mercy on behalf of her brother-in-law who inadvertently got himself in legal trouble. Concerned that her pregnant sister will be left to fend for herself, our heroin takes it upon herself to attempt to convince our hero of her brother-in-law's innocence. Because our Billionaire loves games, he bets our heroine for his time and a game of strip poker ensues. The premise is sexy and entertaining. Some light bondage is involved. Will our heroine ever get the chance to plead her case or will she simply be used and tossed aside? This is one book in a world of books that appears to have cross over characters, but this story does stand on its own.

Jacqueline crashes a high stake poker game to convince billionaire Race Danner to drop the charges against her duped brother-in-law. Danner is bored with his life, but when Jacqueline walk in the room, he is intrigued. He offers to play a private game with her, to hear her request. First she loses her dress and over a few days of submissive play she eventually loses her heart. I am not sure if this is considered a short story or novelle, but definitely short.
