As I'm reading more and more about the Marvel superheroes, I've found the fact that most of them have flaws to be really interesting. But Daredevil's always been fascinating, since he's been the first one I've met with an actual physical disability that still doesn't stop him from doing the right thing.
I found it good to see the two different comics, both with slightly different versions of Daredevil's origin story. I had a lot of sympathy for him as a character, considering he lost his sight and then his dad... not to mention the bullying he suffered that I can relate to really easily.
The first comic was a bit lighter than the second set, I noticed. Even though they both dealt with some quite awful things, I felt that the first comic was a little more juvenile compared to the second... which was much darker and contained a lot more violence. I cringed at the hints of what was done to Matt's father in the second set.
I found Elektra to look and seem really creepy in the second set of comics. Although I was intrigued by her history and the hints that she was a more developed character, her interactions with Matt seemed to be a little unhealthy. Of course, his history indicates that he's unlucky in love... possibly even more so than many of the other superheroes.
It was interesting to see the differences in the costumes Daredevil used, with the first one being yellow; while the second was the much more familiar red.
I think Matt's character came across as much more darker in the second set of comics. He seemed to have more emotional wounds than in the first one... and his father seemed to have a better relationship with him, too. It wasn't very nice to read about his history with his mother.
I liked Foggy in both of the sets of comics and it was good to see that the two of them had a close friendship, as well as being partners in law. I would have liked to know a bit more about Stick... though I felt his character made a lot of sense in the second set of comics. Matt developing his abilities made more sense there, too.
I'd be interested in reading some of the later comics and seeing Daredevil interact with some of the other superheroes. It would be good to see him in other environments and how he handles different situations.
This is a hard one to review as its got 2 origin stories, the first issue and the 'man without fear' retcon. Both with different writers, artists and done nearly 30 years apart.
I'd want to give it 3.5 stars but there's no half stats on good reads.
I really liked the first issue from the 60s, I thought it was one of the better ones from that era. It was funny and heartfelt and had a very upbeat vibe to it, I'd give this one 4.5 or 5 stars.
I wasn't as keen on how Frank Miller retconned it with his run on 'Man without fear.' Having Matt's dad hit him and having that be why Matt wants to be a lawyer felt very OOC compared to what I'd just read. A lot of what Frank writes feels edgy for edgys sake and I don't like a lot of his works for that reason. I would have given his series a 2.5 or 3 stars.
I would like to read more Daredevil though, especially the older ones. Just maybe not Frank Millers.

Bavilo mě to. Určitě jde o jeden z nejlepších komiksů, které v rámci Nejmocnějších hrdinů Marvelu vyšly a asi i jeden z nejlepších v mé knihovničce. Ráda si ho někdy znovu přečtu a nezabrání mi v tom ani to, že mi Romitova Elektra vzhledově připomína zlou čarodějnici... :D
I'm not really going to review this as such since I am biased as I DD is one of my all time faves especially after Frank Miller got hold of the reins. This gives you the origin back when he was in the rather campy outfit and the great man without fear saga. Just dark, awesome and down to earth. Daredevil is a character that you can relate to. The want to save and bring justice to the city and world you live in but knowing you not often have that chance. Or to do so may end up leaving more blood on your hands.
I really enjoyed reading this, especially since this is the first Daredevil comic i've read. I think the 2 vision of att murdock's origin story are very interesting and shows well the change in comic book from the 60s to the 90s.
As always a real pleasure to read, and I recommend it to anyone looking to start reading Daredevil's comic. After all, it's always best to start with the beginning!
The art is really pretty and the writing is great, so overall I think it deserves the 5 stars, but that's just my opinion.
Daredevil is boring. The artwork wasn't magnificent, especially Elektra. The story was rehashed twice: once in the first appearance comic and then in Frank Miller's. Nothing new or exciting.
Won't be running out to learn more about him. Flawed hero or not, he's dull. I didn't think anything could be more dull than Hawkeye.
