A totally different MC book,but in a good way.I really enjoyed this.
This book is not the usual MC story at all.Yes there is a MC Club involved but there's no club life,club rivalry or innocent girl.It's quite dark but an engaging story.
Alana is placed in foster care at a young age after a tragedy in her life.This is where she meets Jax....
From a young age they form a powerful friendship.They look out for each other and are willing to do whatever it takes to save the other.
The home they are placed in,is far from safe...they both experience abuse
Something happens that sees Alana paying a powerful price to save Jax from further abuse....but suddenly,with no explanation,Jax leaves her.
Fast forward to when she is 18 and on the streets.Even now,every night she looks up at the stars and remembers the boy who left her.
One night she is approached by a caring,easy on the eye man called Paul.It seems they have similar pasts as he suffered the same fate as her when he was young.
She is reluctant but eventually agrees to stay with him.Over time she starts to really believe in him and although she is thrown into an alien world of pole dancing/stripping and so much more,she truly believes she is doing it so they can have a better life.
Then an opportunity comes their way which sees Alana coming face to face with her past in the form of The Forgotten Souls MC and the man she has never forgotten or forgiven...Jax.
I'm not going to go into the story any more here but what follows is an emotional,twisted story.
This is a very well written story that spans over years( which I love) and the last 10% had me gripped,I had no idea what was going to happen.
Have to mention one of the most likeable secondary characters ever...Deuce.His story is next and I can't wait....

This was so freaking good!! If you are after solely an MC book this isn't it, it does have some MC aspects but it isn't all about club life..This is about life's hard lessons, one broken soul who thought "if you love you lose" so beautifully written, you will live, breathe this book, devour it, love it as much as I did..It will be dark for some and gritty for others and it will leave you needing the next book in this series..

Whoa straight away you are thrust into Alana's and Jax's world as they try to make their escape from the foster home they are placed in, crawling outside their window aiming for the woods by the house..If what transpires is an indication of what's to come it's definitely going to be gritty and dark..

Unpopular opinion time. This clearly wasn't a book for me and I couldn't get into it at all.
I started this book expecting something dark and twisted and was really excited to dive into it. I did get the dark and twisted part that I wanted but the story overall didn't work for me at all.
Alana and Jax met in a group home and became best friends right away and they stuck by each other. Then they were both sent to live with a family and they thought it would be their chance at a normal life. But what they get sent to is just another form of hell, and this time they might not survive.
The story takes place years after Jax left Alana all alone in the house of horror and their lives have taken two different directions. But they meet up again and old secrets start to come out about what really happened. Now Alana needs to figure out who to trust if she wants to stop living her life scared.
The premise of Desolate Souls was interesting and had a lot of potential but the writing just didn't do it for me. I was getting really annoyed how almost every chapter skipped time, sometimes just a week and others up to three months. Every time something big in the story happened it never got resolved where we could see, it just skipped to after it happened and then mentioned what resolved the issue. The ending was a huge disappointment because of the time being skipped and it just made me ten times more frustrated that we skipped six months and then five years without explaining anything.
Even without the time jumps I couldn't get into the writing style of the book. There was a lot going on and I didn't think it was explained real well to make sense and I was getting confused at some things. I think there was just too many things in the story and they didn't flow real well together for me.
So no, this book wasn't for me and I probably won't be reading anything else from this series. As always, I never discourage anyone from reading a book that interests them so if a dark MC romance sounds like something you'd enjoy, go for it.

I couldn't put this one down!
First off, I will say that I F'in LOVED Kira's series Satan's Rebels MC and this new series....this first book.... yeah...... - BLEW ME AWAY! Gah.... okay now my review.... as much as I can give without spoiling it...... eek!
Jax and Alana - their journey was not easy. It's apparent in the first few pages that their story will be a tough one to read about. It was gut wrenching! But - don't let that discourage you! Keep going. We have so many twists and turns that you will be doing what I did, holding my breath the entire ride. We see love, loss, hurt, betrayal, tragedy, and friendship and you will FEEL ALL THE FEELS in this one!
My heart ached HARD for Alana! I wished I could just reach into the story and pull her out! Was Alana strong? I am not sure.... Some will say yes.... In her own way, maybe. She was a lost - tortured soul. With very low self esteem. You will bare witness early on to what hand she was dealt and that will break your heart. As time goes on, Alana was grabbing onto what ever she could that would wash away all the memories and pain she was dealt. Was she victim to men in her life who used her for their advantage.....yes.
Jax - He was dealt a few bad hands in life too. A few choices early on landed him in hot trouble and thankfully, he came out a better man. He's a protector...a lover.....a best friend. He's ALL alpha! And I want him! When Jax and Alana's worlds finally collide - hang on for the ride!
It was like I was on one of those bungee cords while reading their story. Up and Down ...... Up and Down...... it was like I was dangling mid air - holding my breath - just waiting for the rope to break!
Their story doesn't focus too much on the MC side. Yes, they are there and they do handle things when needed. The story is more focused on our characters and their journey together. A journey of letting go...allowing yourself to love......and wishing for that HEA.
There were so many characters in this book that I hope get their story!
The ending - that I am sure so many will hate - was another HOLD MY BREATH moment. I actually sat there for a moment and then let the air out. I stopped reading for a second, shed some tears, then when I picked it back up.... I knew that was how their journey was to be. There were no flowers and rainbows.... they didn't have an easy ride.......and after crying over what they went through and where they ended up.... I was happy! Did these two get their HEA? That's for you to find out!
This book has jotted up to a Top Favorite for me. If you love an MC read and don't mind Gritty, Raw, Disturbing scenes. Click it up!

For those who have read a Kira Johns MC Romance before...well...ya know she gets down to the nitty gritty. She doesn't hold back and tells a tale of sadness, grief, loss, life changing events, and sometimes....yeah..they are sad. But isn't that part of life? So my word of warning, be aware that the DESOLATE SOULS is quite the mix of crazy, sad, scary and a little depressing...but it's also a story of hope and maybe finding life and love again when all seems lost and the darkness is trying to swallow you...a little light at the end of the tunnel can be just what you needed.
I am not giving away ANY of the story...you will have to read all about bat s#@$ crazy Paul and all his messed up madness, and the Lana/Jax bond that survived years apart. Definitely different from what is out there today, Kira Johns has a true voice, and she definitely stands out among the crowd.
My last words of advice...Read it, crave it, love it!

My Review of Desolate Souls By: Kira Johns
My Rating 5 Gritty Stars!!
The new yet again exciting beginning of a new MC series by Kira. One thing with Kira Johns is you never know what she has in store for you, you just know it’s going to be a journey of epic proportions! This story is nothing like we have read before from Kira, yet it still holds true to her writing ability.
Kira Johns has done it yet again with Desolate Souls by grabbing you from page one and leading you on a heartfelt gut wrenching journey of Friendship/ Love/ Tragedy/ Betrayal. There is every emotion touched on this story of Alana and Jax. Their relationship is one of tragedy and so much love. The many twists and turns keep you one the edge of your seat, waiting for the next compelling event to tug on your heartstrings. I loved this book and the characters inside. Your heart will bleed for Alana and Jax. As Alana is fierce and so strong, not a week heroine at all. Jax is all man, protective, loving, and a highly intense alpha male.
I enjoyed the storyline and all the complexities that come with it. Who knew young love could last over time. The story is one that sits with you even after it’s over and you have marinated what you have just read. I’m a huge fan of Kira Johns and hope to read anything she writes as she always takes me on a journey, one I’m never sure how it will end. I highly recommend this book even if you have never read any of Kira’s books, because you’ll be a fan after. I had the honor of reading an ARC of this book and it was AMAZING!
If you are expecting a typical MC romance, this is not the book for you.
What I have come to expect from Kira Johns and her stories is an emotional read, one that draws you in and makes you feel like you are a part of the story. This book is no different.

If you are expecting a typical MC romance, this is not the book for you.
What I have come to expect from Kira Johns and her stories is an emotional read, one that draws you in and makes you feel like you are a part of the story. This book is no different.

This book grabs ahold of you from the first page and doesn't let go until the last! This book keeps you guess and gasping, could not put it down. If your look for a story that will have you yelling out loud and throwing your kindle only to run and grab it again so you can finish reading, this is definitely the book for you!!! Kira Johns did an outstanding job with this remarkable story. The plot was in your face raw, real, intense and hauntingly disturbing, another words dark read! I really enjoyed it, so you're probably asking why three stars instead of four or even five? Fair enough, the reason being the reconnect got overly sappy down right mushy and secondly the multiple point of views. I'm sorry I'm not that person, regardless of how well its written. I just don't care for four and more points of views. However you may feel differently, so enjoy!

Twists that are purely worst case scenario, broken characters, horrific abuse with effects both long lasting and completely justified, even as you want to shelter the characters.
While it is a tough read, and could have trigger inducing moments for some, this is a great read.

I recently finished reading Desolate Souls (Forgotten Souls MC) and I have to tell you once I started reading I didn't stop until I finished it! MC Romances are my favorite reads and this was a 5- Star read for me. I' m glad I have three reading devices so I didn't have to stop reading. I can not wait for Duece's story! He is my favorite character so far! Every girl needs a Deuce in her life...

This was a really dark read. I'm not sure I liked the beginning of the story, it was pretty difficult to read. The story developed well and I loved the characters. I don't know what to say about the ending. It was a HEA ending, but it was just really different!

If you have read the Satan's Rebels Series by Kira Johns them you are well aware that she does not write your typical frilly, flowers, and candy kind of romance. However what she does write is raw, emotional, and soul binding romance!
She stayed true to that writing with Desolate Souls! The story of Jax and Alana will take you on the emotional ride of your life. We get to follow the lives of Jax and Alana from when they were kids up until they are adults and on that journey there are some wrong turns, detours, and some major bumps in the road. Throughout their lives the two of them have some constant people in their lives which is where we meet Paul and Deuce who both have major impacts on their lives. Hold on to your knickers ladies because this is one hell of a ride!
One thing you are sure to get is an amazing story that will suck you right in and keep you wanting more straight through to the end!

This is a dark book. Alana has had a very traumatic start to life. She has been abused and beaten in her foster home and her only saviour was another boy called Jax. To save him from a beating she made a deal with the devil her foster father. Jax and Alena have been together since they were 6 yrs old and have had each others back until he leaves her with her abuser. Years have passed and she has come under the hand of another devil in disguise her supposed rescuer and friend Paul. He also has ulterior motives. Jax and Alena meet again but it does not go well. Paul has broken her down where she is lost but can Jax put her together again. Dark and gripping to say the least. A brilliant book

Sometimes a little to much of the dark side of life but the light side and the characters made it worth it. Kira Johns has a way of grabbing on to your heart and not letting go even after you've read the last page.

A fantastic book. From the beginning to the last word I was taken on the extreme highs and lows of an emotional roller coaster. Kira Johns has not disappointed with this new series.

I was scared shitless to read this book. I HATED the Satan's Rebels series. Ok maybe not hated the series but I FUCKING HATED the Jade/Shadow situation. Ruined the books for me. Boy was I freaking WRONG!!!!..I have to say, Kira Johns out did herself in this new series and I FUCKING LOVED IT. I loved every single character. Reading about Alana and Jax was an amazing experience. They were truly a great Hero/Heroine. And Alana and Deuce...now that is what friendship is supposed to be. Reading about Jade & Shadow in the other series, just really pissed me off and it was not a friendship the way the author was trying to make it be. Alana and Deuce were extremely close but it was an amazing friendship to read about and a friendship in the correct sense of the word. I have read so many books, that I can normally figure out how the book will end by the 2nd chapter...but with this book...I was guessing until the 2nd to last PAGE. Bravo Kira Johns, Bravo. I can not wait to continue to read this series and I cant wait to read about Deuce.

There foster parents were Paul and Janet . Paul had a wicked gleam in his eye , but Danny (Jax ) always protected Alana . Paul always abused Danny . One day Alana told Paul if he stopped abusing Danny she will give in to him . That that is when the horror started for Alana .

Outstanding story!!
Well written with plenty of surprising spots make this story explosive. Alana gets caught up in a life she never wished for herself when a man proclaiming to be her savior is really a monster who's part of a human trafficking ring. When her life is at a all-time low Jax re-enters Alana's life. Jax and Alana loved each other, each taking care of the other for years. Jax and her met in the children's home where they lived until they were fostered out to a couple who seemed the best thing ever. But they were really sadistic monsters. But Alana and Jax do get their happy ending after several bumps during the years. This was an "Outstanding" story, I wish I could rate it 10 stars.

Just finished.. My heart is pumping so friggin hard. What a roller coaster ride..
Not often have I felt like throwing my kindle across the room, this story will do that to you
Pulled at every emotion one could possibly pull at. It was gut wrenching, heart felt, tears, raw and gritty.
There were twist and turns, the story line is unpredictable, which is rare to find. Alana (lana) what more could a girl take.. Jax what a man is all I can say.. A superb start. Now need a few hours to get my emotions in check.

This is my first book by Kira Johns and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW what an amazing book.
This is definitely not a normal mc book, but Jesus it is fantastic.
Alana and jax's life has been horrific almost from the start they meet and become inseparable but they are separated and that's where it all starts to get even worse for Alana.
I screamed at my kindle, cried and felt really happy. Dueces book is next can't wait.

Worth the wait!
I have been waiting for this book for a long time. It was worth it. Again full spectrum of emotions. I felt it all happy,sad,angry and stunned. Not only did she have a great hero but the best friend I fell in love with too! I can't wait for t h e second book!!
