BDSM Weekend

Rate this book
Wanting variety in your sexual lust? Then come to Lindsey Park Manor.

A weekend of BDSM activities for beginners. That was what James Shaw had booked at Lindsey Park Manor. He was now anxious about telling his wife, Caroline. In the past, they had tried out various implements at home, and were keen to take it further—even considering joining a ‘swingers’ site—but it was quite daunting doing anything with others! And then a shock awaits them on arrival in the form of James’ best friend.

As they progress through the various events—cropping in the stables, fellatio in the ballroom, and an unusual fox hunt—they have to deal with animosity, jealousy and the dropping of inhibitions, as all of them grow in their knowledge of a lifestyle which is exciting, yet challenging.

Just as the dynamics of their threesome change considerably, a further surprise awaits them at the end of the weekend.

Reader Advisory: This is about people wanting to explore the world of BDSM – and boy, do they do that and then some!

Jennifer is English and lives in a lovely historical city in the UK. Other than writing, her interests include reading (Naturally! She always has at least one book on the go, if not one by her bed, one by the bath, and one in the lounge.), all things historical including genealogy, which she has done for many, many years, watching films (particularly sci-fi), gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and walking. She lives with her pet rabbit who is thoroughly spoilt. Jennifer says she wants to come back as her own rabbit in the next life—unfortunately that would mean she still needs to be alive herself. Maybe there is a time travel story there…

This was a fast read. It has BDSM scenes and has threesomes. Within the story, they discuss branding (ouch!), and other elements of BDSM that I have never read about before, so I was quite shocked, but not scandalized. I'm mentioning this because I don't want the reader to purchase something containing material that they may not be comfortable reading about.

This book was the second within the series. The reader doesn't need to read the first book to understand the story. Each book is its own book and a standalone, which I really like because there is nothing worse then reading a book only to find out that I need to read books prior in order to understand the whole story in it's entirety. I don't like that.

James and Caroline are the main protagonists in this book. They are newbies to the BDSM lifestyle and are willing to learn more and to research what they like as a couple as well as individually.  James enjoys being dominant, but I don't believe he's a Dom. He doesn't have that element of control over himself. He can be overly emotional and I don't think he's alpha enough.  Caroline I think could be a switch. She likes being submissive in the bedroom, but she is her own woman outside in the real world. I think she could explore her dominant side in the bedroom, but not with James. He wouldn't allow it.

I thought that James and Caroline grew together and separately in their knowledge and comfort level within the lifestyle. It was really cool how they were both so curious and eager when they began their journey, they then became uncomfortable and unsure as their weekend began, but still willing to learn. They wanted to have an understanding of themselves, each other, and what they want in their relationship in and out of the bedroom. I think they accomplished that over the weekend.

This is a short story and so the characters aren't as fleshed out as they are in longer books. I liked how James and Caroline allowed exploration with others. This deepened their marriage instead of destroying it, and I liked that the feelings James and Caroline developed for other people besides for each other didn't destroy their marriage as well. I couldn't do that personally.

I hope that anyone reading this review gives this book a try, it was pretty good, a fast read, and was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

I read this book shortly after reading the previous book in this series Kink After Dinner. This is a better book than Kink, but not a huge improvement.

With both books, I didn’t feel the connection between Caroline (wife) and James (husband). I actually felt a little more connection between friend Mark and Caroline.

The relationship between James and Caroline was - I’m not certain how best to describe it, but what keeps coming to mind is - twittery. There were really no thoughts or discussions between Caroline and James as to how their thinking was evolving, and particularly about their relationship. There also isn’t much character development from the start of Kink to the end of this book.

I’ve rated this book on my short story scale. I’ll look for more Jennifer Denys books, but I’ll be selective. I did like “Just Good Friends”.

James and Caroline find out very quickly that this holiday may be more than they bargain for. What sounds like fun and games in the privacy of their own home is something else entirely when put to the test. It is obvious they are all a little overwhelmed, especially when it comes to the addition of Mark. Their playfulness is definitely a plus, in my opinion, as it lends a lighthearted and fun feel to the story.

I loved this story. Jennifer has a real knack for inserting humour into her stories, and there were so many times I laughed out loud when I was reading.

Good to see more mature characters too, as they explore their desire for the lifestyle with great abandonment. I just wish there was a manor like this in real life. I would love to spend a weekend there.

There is an awesome twist at the end that I did not see coming at all.

A great read that I read in one sitting.
