I got this book in a Kindle freebie (Destiny anthology). Boy am I glad this was free. The narration/voice of the characters is super awkward and unrealistic and the book, in general, needs to be edited (again?). The main character is dumb and makes the same mistakes over and over again. She has zero common sense and stubbornly denies what's in front of her. Then suddenly there's a death and she's all sunshine and daisies and everything is ok.

It was more than culture shock that Taylor experienced when her family moved from the Big Apple to the wild beauty of Big Bear Lake, California. She was about to discover that there are more than bears in the woods surrounding her home and not everyone is completely human, not even the handsome Jesse, who has been her personal knight-in-shining armor.

Chrissy Peebles’ CRUSH is an ideal read for young teens and it’s all in how this young romance is told through the eyes of a girl just getting over a devastating break-up, a huge move and finding her heart doing a miraculous recovery when she meets that special guy.

Yes, there is a scene with teen drinking, but I have to say, Chrissy Peebles sure didn’t shine a positive light on it, actually she did a good job of making it pretty realistic and foolish looking. Yes, there is also kissing, but when seen and felt through Taylor’s eyes, I have to say, it came across as something a young girl would dream about, simple and teen day-dream- swoon-worthy.

Of course there are bad guys, paranormal bad guys, and yes, Jesse is special, himself, but through it all, the drama is handled well, without being gruesome. As an adult, I may want more detail, but this is a YA read and at that, I would feel safe giving it to my younger teen granddaughters!

Crush was the third book in the free Chrissy Peebles omnibus I've been barreling through, and so far, it was the weakest. The dialogue was still quick and snappy, and the book was still cheerfully aware of its place in pop culture. The novel's pacing killed it for me, though. If a book is advertised as a YA vampire romance, having a good deal of the book's suspense revolve around trying to figure out if supernatural forces are in play doesn't work so well. The characters also seem almost untouched by traumatic events, with short attention spans when it comes to mortal danger. Crush isn't the worst free Kindle book that I've read, not by a long shot. Still, I was disappointed in it.

I tried. I tried listening for hours longer than I wanted to. The narrator is awful. Fifth graders can read better. And let's not even talk about the lack of skill in characterization.

But I've been known to put up with bad narration when the underlying story is good. This wasn't the case here. The story is full of description. This is happening, then that is happening... When there is a bit of dialogue it is stillted and infantile.

I don't tend to give harsh reviews. However, I don't know any other way to describe this book. It was painful to sit through as much of it as I did.

DNF at 55%

Unfortunately, I could not continue. Though I enjoy a good YA/NA vampire romance any day, I couldn't deal with how overdone the attraction between these two characters was... It was nauseating and not very believable...

I also had a hard time with the writing style. The dialogue didn't feel or flow naturally and I had a difficult time connecting to any of the characters.

Gave it a good run, but admitted defeat. This one was just not for me.

I did like this book, it was a easy read figured out from cover it would be a vampire book, love the twist on these type of vampires though, I think these books are for the younger end of the YA Pole which isn't bad just a bit young romance for my reading seeing as that's what the story basically revolves around.

"I want to kiss your earlobe"

Really earlobe?

Ear kisses

But really a sweet story for the younger reader.

Also if Max was my dog i probably would have let him just run away by now, the dog nearly always seems to be the reason she nearly gets killed or cursed......

2 Disappointing Stars.

I hate to say this bout this book because I really had high hopes reading it. So I am going to compare it to Sweet Valley High but not in a good way AT ALL. I loved Sweet Valley High but some of the characters were Clueless just as the Heroine was in this book. I did not like Taylor at all. I thought she was a dimwit with half a brain and wanted to reach through the Kindle and shake her a few times.. Okay I know a little harsh but truthfully this is how I felt. I thought that the book was confusing but it left NOTHING to be desired.

I am not upset that the book needed an editor I am just stating a FACT and that is I did not like this book. I am not going to attack anything about the book because I think Chrissy Peebles knows how to tell a story I just feel like sometimes what we think in our heads in Corny and this is what may have happened with this book. It was strange and weird and I just couldn't get into it. I give this two stars because I think Chrissy Peebles has great potential, the book was free, and I it did not Suck entirely.

A Tease

I'm still trying to figure out if I like this book. I call this book a tease, because that is what it does. Your reading the book getting bored and then something happens and now you're reading more cause you either want to see what happened or figure out what is going on. A lot of dead space in this book in my personal opinion. At the same time though I was intrigued. I probably will get the next book. Depending on how well the second book goes will determine if I continue with the series or not. If it goes like this book I will not. Good story, just a lot of time and space in between the really good parts of the book that you almost loose interest a couple times.

I don't know what to say about this book. The romance between Taylor and Jesse was so cheesy, but I couldn't get enough of it for some reason. I feel like her reaction to finding out Jesse is a vampire was as realistic as it could be. She didn't think it was some amazing thing, she was nervous and didn't trust him and I feel like that doesn't happen in a lot of vampire books. I would have liked to have read a little more about the vampires and werewolves instead ot Taylor and Julie's regular human lives, but I'm sure that's something that will come as I continue on with the series.

This book remind me a lot of the Twilight series but that isn't a bad thing in this case. this book starts a series so it spends a lot of time world building which makes sense. The way the paranormal creatures are written makes them believable and it makes Jesse and enjoyable character to read about.Although Taylor seems a little naive she is and alright character and I think if I continued with the series she would become more likeable.

It was your stereotypical vampire novel. It was repetitive. But I still loved it. Your were hanging till the very end with what he was wether you knew yet or not. Great story line. Needs some clean up, but fabulous plot.

The book sucks! I think a five-year-old to come up with a better story!
I could not make it to the whole book! Narrator sucks to! Drop the mic a couple of time! Better several times missed several places there's absent spots in the narration! All the books sucks!

A novel advertised as a YA supernatural romance should not spend 90% of the book on characters trying to figure out if the supernatural is involved. As for referring to a number of other YA supernatural novels, it comes across as try hard.

The first book is short. I will have to try and get the rest of them. It's a typical vampire story, only with some other supernatural things added. If you are a fan of vampire novels, I would recommend this book. It's geared toward teens and young adults.

I'm kind of torn about this one.
The plot was pretty typical teen vampire romance stuff. There wasn't much originality to it.
The characters were pretty stereotypical. Two girls that just met bonding over talking about boys? Going to a party together and one getting wasted? A super hot guy who is perfect in every way who just so happens to be a vampire? It's all been done many, many times before.
The author had a chance to tap into some real emotional depth with the circumstances Taylor goes through, especially finding a fellow teen's dead body. Instead, it is glossed over. We are given the chance to see the character as more than a boy crazy TV-taught-us-that-this-is-what-teens-are-supposed-to-be-like girl, but we don't.
And let's not even get into the editing and continuance issues.
Yet somehow, I enjoyed it.
The romantic scenes were done well, and even though it was constant, "Omg, he's so hot." and "Omg, I so can't get enough of him." most of it rang true for a girl with that kind of mindset. Her happiness has always revolved around boys, unfortunately, but we are shown this from page one so it comes as no surprise.
I feel like the author should stick to adult novels, since the romantic element was her best feature here. I will probably read more of the series to find out what happens, but I can only hope the characters mature some or find better motivations. (And she finds a beta reader.)

Taylor is a high school who has had a bad breakup with her boyfriend and her mom was mugged and beat up on the streets of New York. Both her parents are writers and they decided to move out of the city and start fresh.
Taylor takes her dog out for a walk and he gets away from her and goes into the woods, she goes in after him and is scared when she comes across a panther, but out of no where a very handsome teen age boy shows up and scares it off. The attraction between them is intense immediately.
Taylor then meets another girl new to the area and they become fast friends, her name is Julie and she likes to take risky chances that Taylor is not comfortable with.
soon strange things start to happen and people are trying to kill Taylor and she doesnt know why. She hears stories of werewolves and witches and vampires are in the area and its possible that the new guy she is attracted to is one of them, but Taylor doesnt want to believe such creatures actually exist.

This story had alot of bad reviews but I really enjoyed it. It was fast paced and kept me turning the pages wanting more and I didnt want to put it down...I would love to read more in this series..

OK it was cute and corny. But I still liked it. And it was funny. I don't read kindle books. I read actual paper books and I got the wrong cover where it doesn't match. In my opinion teens need a mature cover not a seductive one. I do plan to read the rest of the saga in time. I liked it and found it to be funny.

Too slow to get to the point; Unresolved plot; Stupid characters.

Intriguing idea about vampires, but everything moves so slowly that there is no resolution of any of the major issues in the plot. Who is killing the hikers and tourists in town? What does the Latin writing and petal nonsense mean? The characters aren't that smart. Taylor spends a lot of time ruminating over what the curse means, but when someone mentions it, she doesn't ask them direct questions and wait for answers. you'd think that if some strange voice told you that you were going to break a curse, you'd latch onto any person who even had an inkling about what that curse was to learn more about your supposed destiny. And the book just ends. With more questions raised than it answers, and despite the fact that I want to know what happens, i'm not willing to pay more money and spend the time to do it.

This was very disappointing, especially after reading the authors other book Eternal Vows. I don’t know if it was because this book is meant for young adults or not but, this was definitely different and not in a good way.

It seems to me that most authors deem teenagers as shallow, boy crazy, love sick children and I don’t know how to react to that. I guess that’s fine as long as it doesn’t overshadow the plot or the actual story but, that’s what this author did.

It seemed like every time I turned the page it was saying how hot Jesse was and how caring and selfless he was because he was so good with the animals.

It was highly repetitive and I got so tired of it. Yes, I know, Jesse is the hottest guy you’ve ever seen and he’s like no one you’ve ever met before, please move on with the story.

I don’t even know where to begin with everything else, though I did make a list. I usually try to not give anything about a book away but, I have to tell the readers what to expect if they decide to pick this up.

First off, a few typos and inconsistencies. It felt like an editor didn’t even look at this. When it first describes her hair, it’s black; then when it describes it next, just a few pages later, it’s brunette? I don’t know about you but to me, black and brunette are not even close to the same thing. It describes, in detail, what she’s wearing to go walk her dog but not what she’s wearing to go to a party? In my mind, she’s still wearing her dog walking outfit but, I know what her friend is wearing.

Her name is Taylor and her friends name is Julie. Why do I bring this up? For the next mistake of course. She goes to turn to her friend but, instead of Julie’s name, it’s Taylor’s. Taylor turns to look at Taylor. Safe to say, I was slightly confused and it threw off my reading groove.

Also, where’s the responsibility? Taylor and Julie go to a party, Julie drives, then proceeds to get so wasted that she’s falling all over the place and the only good friend thing that Taylor does is tell her not to go upstairs with a guy and to cut her off, after she’s already trashed. You would have been an even better friend had you kept the driver from drinking at all Taylor. And she thinks a cup of coffee will sober Julie up enough to drive because Taylor doesn’t know how to drive stick shift. Yeah, real responsible there.

It constantly goes on and on about how Jesse is so hot and how his eyes are so blue, how he’s so selfless and caring and blah, blah, blah. It goes on with that so much, the actual plot doesn’t get going until Chapter 19.

I gave it two stars because there are some actual bits in there that are interesting but, I doubt I’m going to go on with the series.

Thank you for reading my review.

After careful consideration I must conclude that the female lead in this story is a psycho laced up in a straight jacket in a forgotten wing of some questionable institution and she is making up this whole story in her head. She would have to be crazy to stroll through her experiences in this story while barely questioning anything that should have thrown up red flags. Instead, she patiently waits for explanations from the male lead because she doesn't want to press him. What a great way to get raped and murdered by a murdering rapist in real life. Thankfully this book is fiction, and other than some suspect maturity inconsistencies, the female leads is spunky and interesting.

I love the creative new take on vampires. To give them everything they lack and still make a solid representation deserves wicked credits. There were inconsistencies numbering in the dozens throughout the novel but in spite of those I was still drawn through the story and I ended up liking the tale.

This book definitely does a good job of guarding its secrets until they are ready to be revealed, as I constantly found myself wondering WTF with faith that at some point my questions would be answered. Some were, others not so much, but my need to know the missing answers was fleeting and I won't be bothered by them unless I read the story again.

There was one very consistent theme throughout the book, and that was the ex. The topic of the ex-boyfriend was a dead horse after the first mention, but that didn't stop it from getting beaten again and again. I'm surprised glue wasn't made. And six months to get over a boyfriend who wasn't a good match anyway? Ridiculous. Six weeks would have been a generous stretch.

I feel like there were some close parallels to Twilight sometimes too close, I would have let that go if there weren't so many references to Twilight along with almost every other mainstream vampire story in existence. A constant barrage of movie references doesn't work as well in print as it does on screen methinks.

Overall the story was a good tale and frankly I liked it more than I should have.

What is with that cover? This is a YA....and that cover is so not YA. ?_?

Anyways....

I am SO shocked I managed to finish this. I nearly gave up 100 times throughout this journey. Shall I share my journey with this one?

- First chapter: I groaned at how childish this was written. This sounded like a 12-year-old pretending to write about her big girl adventures. The over explanation of outfits made me want to hurl.

- Next couple of chapters: I got used to the tone of the book and began to kinda enjoy the story. I was intrigued by Jesse.

- Chapter during and after the Big Party: Wait...what? That was SO UNREALISTIC! I was so confused. I was half expecting it to have all been a dream, because it was insanity. I can't say much, by Taylor and her "BFF" just shrugged the whole thing off. I'm sorry...if that happened in real life I feel like they would be more freaked out and needing to talk to a therapist. OR the cops.

- Next few chapters: Super bleh until a big event happens. I was intrigued, but again...why would you call your BF instead of the cops first? Like, what? Gah. But the reaction from Taylor was more realistic.

- Chapters following the creepy part: What!? Things certainly made an interesting turn. I must know more.

- The rest of the book: After a super creepy and game-changing part, I became invested. I was nearly done, so I just followed through hoping things would happen.

- Last chapter: I wanted to hurl again...and not in a good way.

I honestly should have DNFed this one, but every time I came close it sucked me back in thinking things would happen. Even when things were on the up-and-up (especially the one thing that happened that blew my mind) it crashed again. The ending was NOT worth all that trouble I went through. Too YA even with a cover like that one. I do not recommend this one, sadly. I shall give this one star.

Taylor and Jess story was very slow to start, but grew the more I read the book. As a YA its a great book, girl meets boy, become friends and have that relationship becomes something more. The way that they took the time to get to "know" each other was great and every girls dream at that age. I found that all the bad and creepy things that happened to Taylor was a little much and that Jess holding back things was way too obvious and could have been toned down a little more.

For my liking I would of loved to see these two play out a more mature role. But like I said it makes for a great YA book. The more I read this book, I too could not wait for Jess to tell his secret and I was a little happy that Taylor put the pieces together. I started to really like the book when jess stood out side Taylor's door while she told him what she tough he was and how she freaked out and would not let him into the house for her own safety. I like that she kept her head high and stuck to her guns on her safety even when Max ran outside. I loved how they both did not move and talked everything through. What he was, what he was like, what kind of vampire he was and how he lived his life as a vampire. How her kept telling Taylor that he would not hurt her and how in some way she knew that he was telling her the truth. But still waited until she was 100% sure that it was okay to step out and into the arms of the man that she knew he was and to a man that would not hurt her no matter what.

I can not wait to read the next book and find out how this news of the man that Taylor has this uncontrollably connection to a vampire that she does not want to live her life without and how Jess deals with a human girl that has the same uncontrollably connection to Taylor as well. I would like to see how their story plays out and what kind of ending awaits them.

Taylor moves with her parents from a big city to the tiny forested town of Big Bear Lake. Everything seems calm and quiet, until she meets Jesse who turns her world upside down with his dark secret.

Well. First, the book took off like a rocket. Not like 'wow this is fantastic!,' but more like a whole bunch of shit just happened really fast and sporadically which hindered any possible development for anything. For example, Taylor meets Julie. They become best friends in literally 5 minutes with no awkward trying to get to know each other moments and then they are jet streamed into a party where they meet a billion handsome guys and things escalate in a matter of minutes till we are now in the woods being shot at. What? Most of the dialogue was completely bogus and included things that would not be said, ever. This made everyone sound utterly ridiculous and made me want to stab my eye out so I wouldn't be able to read it. Taylor's thought process could use some work. At one point, Taylor is telling Jesse she can't trust him and they needed to take a break and literally 2 sentences later she's trying to boost his ego and make him feel better and say they belong together. Wtf. Also, Twilight was constantly referenced. Why??? Make this story your own, don't worry about other books or mention them. There were a lot of grammar issues as well as poor sentence fluency. The plot...I remember being at 56% and going 'wow, I literally have no idea where this is going or what's the point or who's the bad guy; what are we fighting, is their any development, will any of the questions you bring up actually be answered?'

Not a series I plan to continue with.

i actually really liked this story alot the it is about a girl who moved from ny had broke up with her boyfriend and found loved again...there is only one problem i had with the story and that was when she found out he was a vampire the reason i had a problem was that i felt i was reading twilight by stephanie myers as the same dialog and close to the same wording especially the part where she states you wont want me when i am 80 also asking him how long had he been seventeen not to mention many other quotes from the book twilight....i wished she had not related this book so much to twlight rather or not this author realized what she was doing or not but the last three chapters was extremely disappointing because of this (this is where she finds out he is a vampire) to be honest i did not read any information on this book so i was not aware that he would be a vampire till reading it...i personally loved the story up to chapter 20 there all i knew he was superhuman and the story was so great..i dont have a problem that he was vampire i just have a problem that i just read twilight again.....i wish this author had found her own way instead of what stephanie meyers wrote as i have read MANY vampire books by other authors and i have to honestly say this was the most correlations to myers twilight than any other author..i am surprised that stephanie myers did not get this author for plagiarizing

If I could give this book less than a Star, I would.
It reads as if a twelve year old wrote down a story for an adult. The grammar is horrible, as if no one read through it before it was published. There are words in it that very few adults would know, let alone teens, which I believe is the target audience. For example: Comedienne: the female version of comedian. A little too nitpicky for the target audience. And what teen is going to know what philatest is? I mean, really?

Another thing that really annoyed me was the definition of heli-skiing. Sorry, but it is not where you cartwheel fifty feet down a mountain to recover. Ms. Peebles, heli-skiing is the name for skiing in areas with no lifts. These areas are only accessible by helicopter, hence the name heli-ski. Research is essential.

Down to the nitty gritty of the story. There are only so many times I can deal with cliches, and, to add my own, this book was chock full of them. I don't think there was more than a few of the authors own thoughts.

The romance was cliche as well, although I did like that they didn't start making out immediately. They got to know each other a bit first.
I don't remember any swear words, other than the Lord's name, but there are only so many times you can read that the guy was "smoking hot" before you just roll your eyes and gag.
Definitely a superficial story, and I will not be recommending this book any time soon.
