What happens when life throws you a curveball? Chase Roberts is the quintessential Good Guy. Attractive, athletic, intelligent and successful, the former college baseball star and one-time major league prospect is the kind of guy any woman would love to take home to Mama. Except there’s one small Chase has never really gotten over his former best friend—and first love—Jolene “Jo” Westwood, who broke his heart as a teen. Now, all grown up with two thriving businesses, Chase has enough to worry about. Jo Westwood just wants to come home to Del Rio, Texas, help nurse her grandmother back to health and go back to her calm--okay, boring and lonely--life in Austin once the summer's over. Unfortunately (fortunately?), her best-laid plans come to a screaming halt the moment she accidentally bumps into her former best friend--and first love--Chase Roberts in the feminine hygiene aisle. The cute boy she once knew has become a HOT man. A hot man who seemingly hates her. Great. As the long, hot summer drags on, Chase and Jo find themselves spending more and more time together, resurrecting not-so dead feelings and putting the past behind them. Unfortunately, summer only lasts so long, and even love may not be able to survive long-held secrets that threaten to tear them apart.
Aubrey has been reading and writing since she was about two and a half and has been an avid romance reader since she read her first romance novel in the 6th grade. She wrote her first novel in high school. It was an imaginative historical romance that involved a cross-country trip via covered wagon (fortunately there was no dying of dysentery involved). She thinks it’s still on a floppy disk somewhere (DOS computer, y’all), but can’t be too sure. These days, she writes contemporary romance with a lot of humor and sass and characters that have issues.
She graduated from Seton Hill University’s Writing Popular Fiction program with a Master of Arts in 2008. When she’s not writing, she can be found moderating the world’s largest Polin Discord, crocheting, catching a concert, or Buddiemaxxing on main.
Please note I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author and asked to write a review.
First I am an avid reader but I usually can’t get interested in romance. Biographies, thrillers, and historical books are usually more my cup of tea. Having said this book had me hooked from the first page.
The author used enough humor to keep me chuckling while I turned the page while mixing plenty of serious conversation and conflict to keep me wondering what would happen next. The character development is great and before the book ended I felt like each of the main characters were friends of mine.
When the book ended I felt like some friends had just left and I wondered what would happen next. I will be anxiously awaiting the author’s next release.
This book was too predictable from start to finish. She leaves him because she's scared and he thinks his scars are the cause of it. But even before their issues are discussed, they are kissing like nothing happened. And once everything is out in th eopen that's when they start worry about the past. He gets sick, he dumps her then begs for her back.
It was too easy to guess waht was going to happen next in this books and truthfully I was more interested n Jenn and Matt than I was about Chase and Jo.This book was reviewed by a member of the review staff at Cocktails and Books. The name of the reviewer can be found under the post categories.
A charming romance with several twists along the path to HEA. Chase and Jo are two of the most endearing people and the tale of their reconnection is irresistible. Surrounded by good friends and family the dialogue is lively and full of humour. Leaves you wanting to follow their story.
Absolutely loved it!!! An alluring tale of two childhood sweethearts getting a second chance at LOVE. Had me completely absorbed from start to finish. I was cheering for the main characters like they were my real life best friends.
This is a very heart felt romance. We can all relate to teenage insecurities and heartbreak. Coming back together doesn't usually happen. I love the ending. I need a bit more intrigue and action to give five stars.
