This is a story which has humor, heart and two people who needed to find a way to each other for good.
The idea of best friends' sisters being off limits is a strong theme in romance...take that and then add a serious event which happens during the teen years and you have the makings of a man riddled with feelings he just can't come to grips with. Theses two star crossed lovers have been harboring feelings for years and now when the woman decides it is time to let go of what could have been... Love Karma steps in...
Our guy is a up for a position he wants and bumps into the woman he never allowed himself to act on...He has just been told he needs to be more settled... seen as getting his life course together...meaning being on the road to marriage...By presenting this picture to the possible employers... he would be a shoe in...
Our gal has had her "come to Jesus" moment and is now determined to let go of her pining for the brother's friend and move on... Instead she is front and center in his sights when he asks her to help him out with this charade...she caves...Both agree it will only be for the job offer...
But we know best, don't we...
This had more than the cute premise we all love... there was focus on serious experiences in life and then it was also backed up with excellent, zany secondary characters...providing the humor and needed comic relief.
If you like the friends to lovers/Brother's best friend, etc. stories... sit yourself down and spend some time with This Love of Mine.

This was a cute, heartwarming story sprinkled with humour that hit at unexpected times. Meg has had a crush on Ben for as long as she can remember. Throw in a pretend romance and this was a perfect recipe for a fun love story.
I enjoyed Ben’s playful attitude. I also enjoyed how his jealousy manifested when he encountered Meg on a date with a vet.
The hero and heroine struggled with some serious issues. I liked how they were tackled and the lack of angst.

Because the struggling, clawing, pissed-off animal clearly wished he or she were anywhere else but in MacNamara's Bar.”

Patrick, Meg's older brother and Ben's best friend, died in an swimming accident. Ben has lived with the guilt of not being able to save his best friend for 10 years and pulled away from Meg because of it.
This Love of Mine starts off in an elevator. Meg, who now owns her own bridal shop, is delivering some dresses to the mayor's daughter for her engagement party when Ben walks into the elevator with a "date" for a business dinner. Ben's date ditches him for a concert (front row seats to help her "modeling career") and leaves Ben in a lurch. Meg, hiding behind her dresses and bags, spills everything on the way out of the elevator trying to get away without being recognized by Ben... and fails. After being rescued by Ben, she agrees to be his pseudo girlfriend for the dinner to help Ben earn the open ER spot at the local hospital.
But one dinner turns into a weekend away (for charity), and Meg becomes more determined to put her longtime crush behind her. Will Ben be able to move past his guilt and open up to the one girl that he's always loved or will that guilt and desire for a job push Meg away for good??

Romantic comedy at its best!

Bridal consultant Meg Halloran adamantly disagrees. She’s had a crush on Ben since she was a teenager, and being anywhere near the man who has never thought of her as more than her brother’s little sister isn’t good for her heart.
When Meg’s latest Godzilla bride freaks out and has a panic attack, Ben steps in and saves the day. Uh oh, Meg now owes Ben, and against her better judgment, agrees to be his temporary girlfriend.
And oh boy, this is where the fun starts! I’m not going to give you any spoilers, but this is a must read if you love romantic comedy. Miranda Liasson gives laugh out loud moments in THIS LOVE OF MINE, the second fabulous book in her Mirror Lake series. And the chemistry between Ben and Meg is off the charts. I loved them as a couple.
Although the story is a romantic comedy, there are touching moments as both come to terms with a tragedy from their past. I love a good small town romance, and this one had it all—a hot hero, a heroine you will love and root for, and so much fun humor.
THIS LOVE OF MINE is a keeper and I highly recommend it.

This was a novel that followed the formula of two adults who had loved each other since childhood, reconnecting and finding a way to happily ever after. Meg and Ben had grown up together. He was her brother's best friend. But after her brother's death as a teenager, Ben became illusive and moved away to become a doctor. Meg has grown up and owns a bridal shop in Mirror Lake and Ben has moved back to be with his family and to apply for a job as emergency room physician.
I enjoyed the story. The characters were well-developed and seemed like real people. Even though "This Love of Mine" is part of a series, I didn't feel lost for not having read any of the other books in the series. Liasson is an author that I'll be watching!

This was an enjoyable story...I love stories where the girl has a crush on her older brother's friend. This one was a bit sadder than most, though, because Meg's older brother, Patrick, died when he was 18 in a senseless diving accident. Ben (the story's hero--whom I loved!), blames himself because he wasn't there and felt he could have stopped him. He's lived with this guilt for ten years and has therefore pushed Meg away and won't let himself have feelings for her (or at least won't do anything about his feelings). Meg has always had a crush on Ben, but decides to kick her Ben crush habit once and for all, because it will obviously never happen. Enter our story's "meet cute" (or at least the first time we see them interact in the book)...I loved the elevator scene...I could imagine how nervous she was and felt myself freaking out for her. :) Ben ends up needing a stand in girlfriend to impress the board of the hospital he's hoping to land a job at...a la Meg and Ben's fake relationship.
It was an enjoyable romantic comedy...It's probably a 3.5 for me...if it weren't for the content, I would have given it a 4.5-5. (Content: a little bit of language, innuendo, one scene cut short because the couple stopped, and one actual open door scene...I just swiped past them easily, though). I really liked the characters. I just personally think the scenes take away from the stories. I know it's reality that couples have sex...but if it's going to happen in a book, I prefer closed door/fade to black. You can do that and still have passion/tension. But that's just me. :)
Overall, I did enjoy this story and the characters (even the side ones!)...If you love contemporary romantic stories and content doesn't bother you, then you won't have any issue with it and you'll love it! I did love the story...just not the content.

This is book two in the Mirror Lake series by Miranda Liasson. Although this is book two, it certainly can stand on its own.
Meg is a devoted bridal shop owner who has had a crush on her brothers best friend for a long time. The problem is, her brother died in a tragic accident and Ben has always felt he was responsible for not being able to save him. This is a wonderfully developed story with dynamic characters. It is a beautifully written story of second chances. There was the commonly used theme of "pretend couple", but it is written in a way that is fresh and new. There are so many things working right in this story. Some sadness, romance, plenty of laughs and of course a happily ever after.
One of my favorite things lately in Romance novels is a strong grandmother character. The grandma in this book was so funny. I especially love that they included the cake recipe in the end. If you haven't read this, what are you waiting for?

I really enjoyed writing the heroine of This Love of Mine, Meg Halloran. She's hardworking and vulnerable, and like so many of us, she's let her many responsibilities take over her life. Meg knows her longterm crush on Dr. Ben Rushford is going nowhere and she decides it's time for a change. But fate has other ideas, and she finds herself playing his pretend girlfriend for one night to help him land the job of his dreams. Meg is way, way out of her comfort zone, but as their one-night scheme spirals wildly out of control, she finally sees Ben for who he really is and is finally able to show him her true self. Turns out, only she holds the key that can unchain him from a heartbreaking secret from their past. And only he can make it easy for her to let loose and take a walk on the wild side.
I really enjoyed writing these two characters, who both have to overcome a lot to be together—with a few laughs along the way! Hope you enjoy it, too!

I accidentally read the spin-off (Spikonos Brothers) first, but I liked the secondary enough to read their stories too. The chemistry between Ben and Meg is fabulous. I adored the small town antics and the feel good vibes of the storyline. It is a quality, light-hearted romance.
Learning Spike's identity has made me even more excited to read the final installment of the series.

I think the sign of a good book is when you feel like you're missing something when you've put it down to do something else. I was mid-way through this book, working on some other things, and I just felt like the characters were doing something and I was missing it because I wasn't reading. This is the second book in the Mirror Lake series and in it, we see Meg and Ben's struggle to find love with each other. Both had been affected by the death of Meg's brother Patrick's death, Ben being his best friend. His death has created an almost insurmountable barrier to overcome. Only through a series of misunderstandings, and last minute decisions, did Meg and Ben even find themselves spending any time together. And even as they did, they constantly struggled with their feelings for each other intermingled with their feelings of grief and guilt associated with Patrick's death.
I love Ben. I've read so many stories recently with heroes that I just really like and this was no exception. Even when he was being incredibly thick headed and inconsiderate towards Meg, I could feel his confusion and misunderstanding, and his struggles with trying to get everything he wants and eventually risking it all, with a possibility of getting nothing he wants. But he makes the grand gesture that Meg really needs.
Meg is a fun character. I could feel how frazzled she was when she was working with some of her more high-maintenance brides, and I was thrilled when she finally told off the snooty bride who threatened to ruin her business because she couldn't accommodate a new dress with 7 days notice. Meg experiences the entire gamut of emotions in this story - happiness with Ben, heartbreak with Ben, frustration with her customers and her mother, frustrations with her sister, empathy for Ben's sister who struggles with her own boyfriend issues. I can really see Meg as someone people could always look to to see below what a person is saying to what they really mean, and what they really need. She is a great character, and together with Ben, they just work.

What's it all about:
Meg and Ben have known each other almost their whole lives, but after Patrick’s, Meg’s brother, accident neither of them seem to be the same. Meg has grown away from ben and the time they used to spend, and Ben has kept blaming himself for ten years. Meg has always had a thing for Ben, but the only one who doesn’t seem to notice is him, so when Ben needs a fake date, why wouldn’t Meg want to help him out? As these two spend more and more time together their relationship seems to build and fall apart at the same time. Can these two get over what happened so long ago to let themselves love, or will their relationship suffer?
The Best Parts:
This novel was definitely better than the first! It just captures you, granted the first one was good, but this one was GREAT! It only took me a day to finish because I just needed to know! The twists and turns that happened just made this more interesting. Ben is stupid. I just needed to say that, he is a stupid boy, and I wanted to slap him and kiss him at the same time. This story line was fantastic and had such great depth to the characters that made you want things to work out even when they weren’t. This story had just the right amount of tension, and even some sex, and it worked so well with the characters and how they played off each other.
The Worst Parts:
I actually didn’t find anything wrong with the novel. The beginning was perfect, and the middle, and the end. I loved the characters and the back and forth between each of them. It felt like a family rather than a circus, like some novels do. Every character had their part, no matter how small.
Final Thoughts:
I loved that this set up for the third book and Sam and Spike. I need it. He is perfect, and what he said to Same, OMG! Any girl would fall for a guy like that. This third book doesn’t come out util next year, but I already can’t wait! It seems that each other these books gets better with the next :]

I didn’t read This Thing Called Love, the first of the Mirror Lake books, but I don’t think it made that much of a difference because with This Love of Mine we focus on Ben and Meg and their pretend relationship. Of course, like any good romance, it doesn’t stay pretend for very long and Liasson makes sure that it is a lot of fun getting to their HEA.
My heart goes out to these two for a lot of reasons. The opening with the elevator, and all of the humorous embarrassment that goes with it, sets the mood for the rest of the book and I totally feel for Meg as she tries to make herself as invisible as possible so Ben doesn’t realize she’s there. She’s been living with a crush on him for years and she’s finally decided to give it up … when she’s guilted into a fake relationship with him. But it’s just for one night, right? Then she can go back to moving on … yeah, that worked.
Ben’s been carrying around a lot of guilt since Patrick, his best friend and Meg’s brother, died. So many of his decisions have been because of Patrick, including ignoring his attraction to Meg. Except now that he’s pretending to be in a relationship with her, ignoring her pull on him becomes so very difficult. I really like how his feelings, both for Meg and about Patrick’s death, get resolved. It is handled with care and all of it felt realistic to me.

My heart goes out to these two for a lot of reasons. The opening with the elevator, and all of the humorous embarrassment that goes with it, sets the mood for the rest of the book and I totally feel for Meg as she tries to make herself as invisible as possible so Ben doesn’t realize she’s there. She’s been living with a crush on him for years and she’s finally decided to give it up … when she’s guilted into a fake relationship with him. But it’s just for one night, right? Then she can go back to moving on … yeah, that worked.
Ben’s been carrying around a lot of guilt since Patrick, his best friend and Meg’s brother, died. So many of his decisions have been because of Patrick, including ignoring his attraction to Meg. Except now that he’s pretending to be in a relationship with her, ignoring her pull on him becomes so very difficult. I really like how his feelings, both for Meg and about Patrick’s death, get resolved. It is handled with care and all of it felt realistic to me.

When I read the description for This Love of Mine, I knew instantly that it will be a good one. I am a sucker for small town romances, especially series of which follow different family members/friends and their quest of discovering love.
Meg Halloran is an independent, tell it how it is kind of women. And Benjamin Rushford is a big hot shot, always gets what he wants kind of man. While she is busy running her own bridal store and he aiming to get a promotion as an ER doctor, fate throws them together again in an elevator years later. This may not be a second chance romance where a couple falls out of love and falls back again. But it is a second chance of putting everything that happened in the past aside and being able to fall in love.
Why not 4-5 stars? Some parts of the book were easily predictable. I usually like a twist in the plot to make it more exciting. And everything that can possibly go wrong, went wrong and it all magically gets resolved. I just couldn't help but laugh at the parts when everything is just perfect and it all falls into place. It just wouldn't happen in the real world for me but it may for someone. If you like a book where every character gets a happy ever after, you will love this book! On the flip side, there was great chemistry between the two, swoon-worthy moments, and charming side characters! I love Grandma Gloria and her sassiness. Especially Ben's sister, Sam, and her own little drama with love. And I bet Sam will get her love story in the 3rd Mirror Lake Novel. I hope it is because it was actually one part of the book that was not fully resolved! I also love books with weddings and doctors it was good read overall!

I love second chance books and this is a good one. It's not the usual love lost, love found kind of second chance. It's a second chance at loving one's self and loving another after finally facing a past that held you back. The story of loving your siblings friend is common, but this one has a twist, a heartbreaking twist. Meg and Ben have an adorable romance, a little more snarky than smutty. I really enjoyed that the characters went on normal dates, had family drama, and continued going on with their lives in normal ways. It wasn't just about the relationship between two people, but the relationship with those in the community as well. The secondary characters brought a lot more to the story than you'd expect and I find myself wanting to check in with them and what they are doing.
Unfortunately, I never got a real picture in my head of what Ben or Meg really looked like. There's a mention of height and a beard, but I got pretty confused when Meg described herself as figure-less and on the next chapter Ben described her as petite and curvy. I never developed a real connection to either of them, because I just couldn't see them. On the other hand, I can see Sam and Lukas clear as day. The last chapter wrapped up everything very quickly and I could have easily read a few more chapters on their romance blossoming finally.
I think this is the kind of book that makes for a great relaxing read and can be enjoyed by those who like series and standalone novels.

This Love of Mine by Miranda Liasson is the second in a series, but can be read as a standalone. I read this not having read any of the authors previous work.
Meg and Ben have known each other pretty much their entire lives. Ben and Patrick, Meg's late brother, were best of friends until Patrick's tragic, untimely death. They live in the small town of Mirror Lake and very involved with their community. Ben is trying to get a job as a doctor in the hospital of his hometown, and Meg owns a bridal boutique she is trying to expand. Meg has had feelings for Ben for as long as she can remember, and just as she vows to give him up and move on, he comes to her asking a favor to help him get a leg up on the competition for the job at the hospital.
I very much enjoyed This Love of Mine. I did not realize it was the second of a series and had no troubles following along. I plan to read the first one soon. Ben and Meg were very relatable characters. If you have ever known someone just finishing up a medical residency, looking for a permanent position, you can understand Ben's frustration in trying to get his dream job. Meg was a tougher nut to crack. She has been very guarded since her family fell apart following her brother's death. She tries so hard to keep her heart out of the mix, even though it is a dream come true for her. While I enjoyed reading this book, I found myself more excited at what is hopefully another part of this series, the relationship between Ben's younger sister Samantha and her ex-boyfriend, Spike. The end seemed to fall flat for me. Overall, it was a very good book, and I would recommend it to others.

Megan Halloran is an overworked owner of a a bridal shop whose business partner is out on bed rest with twins. Meg is trying to pick up the slack, as well as win a loan to renovate and expand their shop, while still taking care of errands and housework for her ailing mother.
Benjamin Rushford is back in town vying for an ER Residency position at the hospital. His Grandfather was the town doctor, and Ben wants to keep his memory alive and make him proud by following in his foot steps of caring for his old hometown's residents.
Meg and Ben run into each other, and the sparks fly. Meg has been in love with Ben since she was 10 years old. Ben had been her brother Patrick's best friend, and they had started a teenage romance that fell apart when her brother died when she was 16. Ben felt guilty about Patrick's death and couldn't bring himself to be around Meg anymore, so he pulled away from her and started treating her like a stranger, then went off to college and med school.
Now Ben needs Meg's help getting the job he wants at the hospital, and she happily tells him no, but when he helps her with an emergency during one of her fittings, she feels obligated to return the favor. I was unable to put this book down. I tried, I really did. I had other things I needed to go and get done, but I couldn't leave this book and these characters.

Ben is amazing! I absolutely loved him. At first, I wasn't sure I would like him. I mean he is very strong willed and hard to understand, but after a gesture towards Meg, you can't help but love him.
“Do you picture long nights making love by the fire and talking about everything and anything under the sun, and do you have the feeling that of anyone in the world, he just gets you? Like no other person in the world ever can?”
Meg is a very fun and loving character. I liked her instantaneously. She is a hard working, yet emotional woman. She goes through so many range of emotions throughout this novel, that you can't help but feel happy, sorry and upset for her. I felt as though I was going through the emotions right along with Meg.
This book is a definite must read!! I highly recommend it!!

I just love this series and the Mirror Lake Family. Olivia and Brad (book 1) and now in Book 2 we get Meg and Ben- I KNOW I can expect to see Sam and Spike in Book 3 PLEASE!!
Meg is the bridal shop owner making dreams come true for the in love, romantic brides. However, she has not been as lucky in love as she had carried a lifelong crush on childhood friend, brother's best friend, Ben Rushford, now Dr. Rushford, resident hunk.
When Ben seeks out the job in the ER department in Mirror Lake, he finds that his single, bachelor life isn't what the Board is looking for,.a settled, married doctor is what will get the position. So, Ben looks for a fake girlfriend, or even more. Meg is who he wants to play the part. They have a childhood of knowing each other, a common affection for one another, so of course she is perfect for the part. But when her feelings, emotions come into play, the past heartbreak they both share, plus his repressed feelings he has had for Meg, there is potential for a lot of emotions, heartbreak and disaster.
I enjoyed this story. I loved seeing what the neighborhood of Mirror Lake was up to, how everyone had fared since Book 1. I love the HEA. I of course can't wait for Book 3... there is a book 3, right? You know Same, Lukas (Spike), yeah we need more!

This was a quick cute read. Meg is a bridal shop owner and she has always been in love with her brothers best friend Ben. She knows nothing will ever happen between them and now it's time to move on to a real relationship. Now that has been decided she runs into Ben again years later and he needs a favor.
Ben had a thing for Meg, his best friends little sister but after his death he did everything he could to stay away from her. Now he is back home and up for the job in the ER except the head of the hospital wants a married and family man so he sticks around. After running into Meg he convinces her to be his pretend date but the more time they spend together the more he wants her.
Although these two have known each other forever they have great chemistry. I liked the way Ben remembered her favorite flowers. It was sweet that he went picking them in a field even if he was trying to convince her to still be his pretend date.

Loved it!! This is a fun small town romance with excellent writing, great pace, and characters that warm your heart. It's the second in a series but easily read standalone. I do recommend you read the first though - great book.

I enjoyed reading this book. I felt it was very enjoyable and it was a short, sweet, and fun read. I absolutely fell in love with Ben and I really enjoyed Meg's character too. I also really liked a lot of the side characters. I felt the storyline was great although there were a fee inconsistencies throughout. I did feel the book was well written and I look forward to reading more from this author. Overall a fun read and I would recommend!

Miranda Liasson's second novel in her Mirror Lake series, is displays a depth of emotion from laughing to crying. Chemistry swirls between the two main characters from the moment they step onto the page together, and you can't stop turning the pages because of wanting to see them finally get together. The dance scene had me not only laughing out loud, but loving the sexual tension that it plunged the couple into. I could literally see the hero's mind spinning with wonder and a curiosity that he couldn't let go until it was satisfied.
Ben's past and is inner struggles was so heartfelt, that I wanted to hug him myself! He was sexy, and strong yet willing to let go and be vulnerable in the end. He was the perfect love for her.

Cute, fun and a little sexy - Ben and Meg's story made me smile, sigh, laugh and even brought a tear to my eye. What starts out as a favor between old childhood friends turns into a once in a lifetime love. However, a tragic event in their past makes it hard for Ben to want a relationship, even though he is in love with Meg. Luckily, he figures out what is really important in life. Their relationship is full funny moments that make this a light read. Can be read as a standalone.

This Love of Mine was an endearing story about attractive characters. Miranda Liasson's creation is about not taking anything in life for granted. Especially relationships. The people counted on the most may not always be there. This Love of Mine conveyed that point by examining the love story of Ben and Meg. With likable characters and plenty of feeling Ms. Liasson composed a sweet story of neglect, frustration, heartbreak and love. I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. Very well put together read.

So much fun!
I was so excited for this to be released after reading the first book in the series. I love how Miranda has so much depth to her characters and how you get to discover their secrets and insecurities throughout the story. After the first book I thought this would just be an unrequited love, but it was so good and there were a lot more layers to it. I thought there would be. If you are looking for something fun and interesting read this book!

This is the second book in the Mirror Lake Lake series I've read. A sweet romance with the pretend perfect girlfriend. Meg has had a childhood crush and still attracted to Ben forever. Ben needs a girlfriend to show stability to get a job in the ER. Meg is tired of waiting for Ben to notice her. I love a book when two people find that great love and not even looking for it. Perfect grab a blanket, cozy up and read love story!
