“He is Dragon...He breathes.”

After the nightmare in Dubai, Allie and Revik are on the run, dragging the remains of their army to stay ahead of Shadow. Revik knows they can’t run forever, and comes up with a plan...a plan that might mean sacrificing himself to keep his family alive.

Meanwhile, Allie returns to America to hunt Shadow’s network, working with the remnants of the human government to forge a cross-race alliance. Knowing that Menlim might kill her husband, that her own leadership team has been infiltrated...as has the presidency of the United States...Allie fights to stop the remaining world powers from being manipulated into nuclear war.

Then Dragon appears, another broken intermediary with unbelievable power. He might just be the most dangerous seer Allie’s ever encountered…including her husband, who Dragon seems determined to hunt for reasons of his own.

I love this author's Quentin Black series, and there are A LOT of triggers in that one. This is even darker and the triggers are even WORSE, which is why I never continued this series.

Dragon, (Allie's War Book 9), JC Andrijeski
Genre: Romance, Fantasy/Sci-fi.
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Well – we’re on to book nine, plus of course lots of side novellas. This series is great value for money for those of us who love longer books, with this one being 689 pages for £4.99.
Once again its a rocketing journey, a race against time with a new player in town. Trouble is which side is he on? Feigran indicates he’s important and Allie has learned that though Feigran tells her things in an abstract, confusing way he knows things that others don’t, and that his information isn’t to be ignored. Its often linked to things she’s dreamed about, and she knows they need more info on Dragon. When she gets it though – wow – he’s incredibly powerful, and she’s powerless against him....that comes as a shock. She’s still not sure whether she escaped from him or whether he let her go, whether he’s on their side or laying a false trail, and when the future of the world depends on getting things right...well, no pressure then. Even though I’ve finished the book I’m still a bit confused over Dragon. Feigran too confuses me, sometimes he’s just kind of coarse about sexual things, and then he surprises me with his gentlemanly way of speaking and the things he does. He’s kind of like one of those Savant types, where the brain just works differently to most peoples, where so much of what he does isn’t intended to cause offence but just him saying things as he sees them. In through the out door – that phrase still has me wondering....I guess with Terian (or the Terians) being part of him so much has been taken out that maybe would have moderated him, and likewise Terian has characteristics from him and whatever bodies he uses...maybe? I’m still, after all these books, working that one out. Throw in Menlim and what he is and – well, thankfully not fully understanding doesn’t stop me enjoying the story, and as the series grows so does my understanding. Its the first time I’ve read anything like this, so I don’t have a background of Sci-fi reads to work from. Maybe that would have made a difference, though maybe not?
She and Revik ( swoon...) know now that Menlim isn’t dead, that he’s the real force behind things and he needs to be stopped. Trouble is how? He can’t be killed in the conventional way as he’s a kind of flesh puppet – reminds me very much of the battle to kill Terian. They come up with a plan though to work round him – but have to keep it secret as there’s a mole in the group, and they have no way of knowing who. That’s really distressing. It was a shock when Dorje proved to be working for Shadow, and to think someone they know well, trust and have been friends with for many years is against them is awful, and means looking and treating everyone as if they were against them. What a nightmare. Revik has to do something that brings him right into the centre of danger, and if his plan fails – and its very likely to – then that’s it for him. Allie too has to carry on knowing this time she can’t help him, she has her part to play and it makes her friends into – well, not enemies but they really dislike how she’s acting and show it. That’s very isolating for her. Still, she and Revik never shirk from doing what’s needed, even when it comes at great personal cost. Its all leading up to a huge confrontation with Shadow, Dragon. Allie’s people and the President of the USA, where the cost is incredibly high both on a personal and a worldwide level.
Poor Allie and Revik, seems to me they never get a break. That’s what being Bridge and Sword is though. When I look back at the start I see how very far everything has gone and need to remember that all this has taken place over several years. I just hope its all worthwhile for them in the end, as well as the rest of the world of course. They’ve sacrificed so much and what has to be done in this part comes at a level that will take a great deal to get back to. They’ve both had to do things that they know will cause problems in their relationship after, knowing it had to be done is a brain understanding but of course the heart – that’s always a weakness with them both, and even if their plan succeeds can they overcome their actions to stay as a couple? I really, really hope so – their connection is a genuine soul mate type, as if they are two halves of one unit and they need to be together. Thank goodness Seers have long lives, as they’ve used up so many years in things that have caused them grief.
I feel I know so many of the group as people now, not just as slightly weird names...and when some die I grieve for them. I still miss the lovely Garensche, he was such a great part of the group, talented but on a personal level very good at coping with others high emotions and bringing trigger points down. When a series continues for so many books its inevitable some characters die, but I miss them.
I’m an avid reader, I’ve just under 5,000 books on my amazon cloud and I’ve read maybe 3,000 of those with another 1,000 or so books at home that I’ve read, and probably 2-3,000 borrowed from library over the years, and yet this series is still in my top twenty. I don’t have a fav series or book, just a top few, and though this seemed like a type of book that wasn’t my sort of read I found I became hooked on it from the start. I’ve recently reread my way through books 1-8 and the novellas, and found that I have a deeper understanding now of events and people from it, and I see actions differently to when I first read it. I don’t know how many more books are to come, each time I think we’re on the home stretch JC takes us off on another tangent so who knows? I’ll be sad to see the end to the series, though I’m so hoping Allie and Revik finally get a happy ending and live out their lives in peace and love together, but I’ll miss looking out for the next instalment.
That teaser: Gah! When I read that – the beach scene - I had to know what happened. It was about 3 days prior to release I found it and from then on I was checking Amazon every few hours desperate to get Dragon and see what happens. I was so taken in, so on edge, that actually I just had to peep at the end just to see what transpired. I’ve done that a few times with books that really hook me, too impatient to wait. For some people that spoils it but not for me, and I’m always happy to re read good books, even though I know what’s coming. I love to read my way through a full series back to back. I read this one over the weekend, read a review werewolf book and am currently reading through a contemporary romance trilogy from last year, where I can finally get the books read back to back and really get “into” the story without stopping. I like swapping genres between books.
Stars: A solid five.

Some stories, some characters just ... resonate.  They burrow deep into your brain and just stay there.  And you become more attached to them, and more invested in the outcome of their tale.

And this?  This traumatic, violent, end of days epic love story may be one of the more disturbing ones to get lodged in my head.  But I really wouldn't have it any other way.

I can't pretend that I followed all the twists and turns of this addition to the saga until the very end.  Always on edge.  Never in the loop.  Precisely, I suspect, how the author planned it.

What am I going to do when this series finishes?  I'll put that hurt off until another day.  For now? This will more than keep me hooked.

Have you ever found a book series that completely pulls you in and doesn’t let go? A series that has you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it does? Of finding the characters you love as well as the ones you love to hate? Well this is that series for me. And it’s almost over.

Revik and Allie make a plan to stop Shadow, once and for all. Only, their plans always seem to go sideways. So in the end, they will have to determine if what they go through is worth it in the end.

The plot races non stop to the end. It leaves you wanting the next book right away, which is hopefully soon. I really wanted to read it from start to finish, but it is a long book and I couldn’t stay up any longer. Of course that meant when I woke in the middle of the night, as I usually do, my mind went to the book and went through scenarios of what could happen next, which were wrong lol. Love this series and will be bummed when it is done.

Another twisted, stunning full-fledged installment of the Allie's War series, and I couldn't have been happier, honestly. Complicated and layered, with shocking betrayals and deep-covers ops, this is the world and these are the people I've come to adore. I have to say, each new book comes with increased tension as the world falls more into chaos and the ops get more dangerous, and this book is definitely no exception. I highly recommend the whole series, and endorse that the numbered books should definitely be read in order. The side stories are usually interesting studies of particular characters, and I recommend those, as well.

Oh my

Where is the next book, this is so suspenseful, it just grabs hold and doesn't let go. You can't help wondering how this will end, especially with the nukes having been dropped. So many questions remain, just hope they will be answered soon.

When it’s over, I’ll read it all again.

World building transports me to whichever dystopian version of Earth our intermediaries are alive on. It’s slightly trippy, but that’s the point. Pre-and post-apocalyptic Earth present variables that only make sense when you get submerged into all the series, simultaneously. Bravo, JC!

In all my time reading books I've never been so blown away by series as much as this one.
It's addicting and beautiful and I can't describe the roller coaster of emotions these books have been.

Dragon by J.C. Andrijeski.
4 out of 5 stars.
Following their adventure in Dubai, Allie and Revik are on the run and, knowing they cannot stay that way forever, they come up with a plan. A plan that no one else is included in. But if it is to succeed, it will mean Revik sacrificing himself, and perhaps his very life, to the evil Dreng known as Menlim.
Meanwhile, Allie returns to America to try and work with the President of the United States and shows her proof that the government has been infiltrated by Menlim's people. President Moira Brooks is not just the president, she's also on the displacement lists which makes her an important person to convince that Allie and Revik are not the enemies.
But just when everything is going well between the two women, another broken intermediary appears on the scene and, for some reason, he seems to be gunning for Revik?
I loved the appearance of a new mysterious intermediary but I do think that a little more could have been said about him, especially at the end, because I have to admit it left me a bit confused about him. It's all very well saying that he's written about in the 'conscripts' but it's not worth even saying that if you don't at least explain them to an uneducated audience of readers?Who was he in the end? What was he even doing here? His purpose? To my mind, he was written about very badly, there was a lot more could have been made of him than that.
While most of this book was as good as the rest of the series, the ending actually felt a bit flat. After everything else that had happened, I mean, was that all the Esteemed Bridge was supposed to do? What would you do if nuclear missiles were on the way? Contact your friends and tell them you need help, lay down and wait for rescue to arrive while you watch the bombs fall and feel hopeful - right? Hmm... like I said, the ending just felt wrong to me!
But saying all that, I'd still recommend it for others to read! This series has been a blast from beginning to end and I've loved every second of it. All those interested in Dystopian fantasy with a little light romance in along with mythological figures will love it and you'll miss out if you don't give it a try! But these books have to be read in order to appreciate them as they often lead on to the next book too.

Allie and Revik are running with the army they have left to stay away from Shadow. Revik then comes up with the kind of plan that is just so crazy it might work but it has the potential to destroy everything they hold dear including the potential to sacrifice himself to keep the rest of his family alive. Allie tries to hunt Shadow’s network while forging a cross-race alliance but is also struggling with an infiltrator in her leadership team. When a new intermediary appears called Dragon, Allie realises not only is he broken but he is the most dangerous seer she has ever encountered. He is also set on hunting down Revik so she realises she needs to somehow protect him.

Wow – plots within plots in this story as Allie and Revik do everything they can to protect their family, friends and the world as a whole. There were so many twists and turns that you need to concentrate in order to appreciate the artistry of the story development. Needless to say there is danger, drama and excitement in large amounts throughout the story. The build up to the end was definitely dramatic and I was reading faster and faster needing to know what would happen next. I loved the ending and have suspicions of what is going to happen in the next book in the series and so can’t wait to find out if I guessed right. Well written, very intense and incredibly enjoyable.

As always Ms Andrijeski dragged me through a whole gamut of emotions with this book. From enjoyment over the interactions between Allie and Revik, and their friends, to frustration when the climate soured and they seemed to grow apart. I've been appalled by the state of their world, and the callousness of their opponents, perplexed by their non-communication at times, and head-scratching by the enormous risks they were taking to save their family.
My anger exploded when reading about the atrocities exacted on innocents, followed by satisfaction when they got their
just deserts.
The conclusion left me with my mouth hanging open, asking myself, what, did I read that right..., this thing is what, who?
Again I was sucked into the world of Allie and Revik, without the possibility to stop for a break. But who needs sleeping if you have found an author that can grab and hold your attention over so many books.
I dread the next one, coming soon, because it is supposed to be the last one.
Fortunately there's already the Quentin Black series!!!

Another excellent book in a stunning series! I highly recommend this entire series. Allie and Revik are going through a lot since the Dubai incident. There is still a mole sending Menlim lots of information. The hunt is on and in more ways than one. As I read the book there were things I thought were going to happen because you do get in the Allie and Revik mode of thinking and planning. So expect some twists to the many plots going on. Now as for the new character, Dragon, he is different. Is he tied to Menlim or acting under his own volition? Such an unusual character but interesting! The interactions between him and Allie and Revik is enlightening. It is hard to say much about him as I do not like to spoil the story for others. The book is full of action, mystery, romance and lots of surprises! Read and enjoy as I look forward to the next book!

I received Dragon, book 9 of the Bridge and Shield series, as a free copy from the author/publisher. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.

I love this series, but this book? Not my favorite. Nine books into the Bridge and Sword saga, and there is so much drama and very little plot progression --although, there are some significant unveilings, I'm just not sure the author needed 500-600 pages to do this. I'm weary after so many books to suffer with Allie and Revik through one more separation- they deserve their happy ending. I love the writing, and while I found myself actually skimming portions-which I've never done before-I was caught up frequently in the story line and purchased the book to add to my collection. I can't wait for Sun, book 10.

JC Andrijeski’s Bridge & Sword Series is really perfect, full of all the things that makes an epic adventure be, well, truly epic and now we’ve reached its ninth book, Dragon. This is the penultimate book in the series so for those who have been addictively following along, the core characters are well known (and much beloved, complexities, dark sides, and all), as is the basic plot line of the grand war against the Shadow with its victories ... and significant defeats. I’m not going to give the wonderful plot away but it’s clear that things are rapidly coming to a head. Great characters. Great plot. Great world-creating. Great writing. Yup, the hallmarks are all here. Oh, and most importantly: there is hope, “real, honest-to-gods hope.”

Very (very) highly recommended, with the caveat that newcomers to this series really should start at book 1.

Oh my, where is the next book, this is so suspenseful, it just grabs hold and doesn't let go. You can't help wondering how this will end, too many questions remain, the rewrite helps with the flow but it's still one big rollercoaster ride. I've loved this story from the first rendition and now the rewrites, I'm actually both nervous & excited about how the author plans to end the series. One things for certain I'm hooked on this world & it's characters.

I received an ARC of this story and have voluntarily chosen to review it here.

OMGS!

Shite!.....this is truly an apocalyptic story of magnitude. Aws6for those how like apocalyptic paranormal hot reads. A love story in a love story, for a people both human and seer, strange plots and twists the writer keeps you on your toes. You think that it goes this way and it goes the other way. Totally unexpected scenarios and scenes. Very descript and as you read POV'S of the characters it throws you at how emotionally they are.
Now to get book 10...the end of the END?

Wow. I am almost at a loss for words this was so good and so unexpected. The plot is so complex but perfect. It will take you on a whirlwind of emotions. It seems so bleak for Revik and Allie as if they will never be safe. No couple should ever have to go through the things they have and yet more keeps coming. I am anxiously awaiting the final instalment which will be bittersweet. This was my favourite book so far.

Hope can change lives. I can’t believe who the mole is.. not in a million years!! I’m not ready for this series to be over even knowing that there’s a spin off. I love Allie, Revik, and the whole gang and I can’t wait to see how everything is tied together. This next book is going to be epic, I can tell.

This continuation In the series seemed a little longer than it had to be. The buildup to the end (next book in the series) is moving inexorably forward. I am so curious to read how it all resolves. I'm especially interested to see the connections to the Quentin Black series. I will be sorry to say goodbye to these characters.

Totally apocalyptic! What does the end of the world look like? Will humanity or the seers survive? What is going on with Allie and Revick? Who is Dragon? This has been the most amazing story ever. One novella and one more book to go. Have not been able to stop.

22.5.2018 - 4,5*
Nenáviděla jsem tento díl. I fucking hated it.

I did LOVE this book, I gave it only 4 stars simply because I am tired of the push and pull between Allie & Revik. I want them to be happy and I want them to be happy NOW!

Outside of that, this book has everything I’ve come to love about the series. Complicated sub-plots, surprises, and steamy sex scenes.

I hope SUN finally gives Allie & Revik their happily ever after.

Of course it was 😊 Revik has in fact a reputation for being crazy, but I guess it keeps him – in a way - from going insane, and let us be honest surviving Dreng’s captivity would drive anyone out of its mind. Revik is – of course not anyone 😉 – and even in his crazier moments, with his own and his daughters light in jeopardy, and fighting against be turned into a killing machine, Revik comes up with a crazy plan that could even work in the end, because running forever on it’s not an option for any of them. The stakes are very high, winning means survival, losing… well… let us not go there… and then the Dragon turns up and….
the rest you have to read by yourself 😉.

As always Andrijeski’s delightful, fluid, fast paced, and vivid writing style, excels in getting across the actions elements with the added bonus of a good social critique, without disregarding the harsher romantic aspects of the story. A clear recommendation for any fan of intelligent dark (the darkest!) urban fantasy and/or parallel science-fiction worlds, with the only caveat of eventually shortening your beauty-sleep, but lets us be real, beauty is on the eye of the beholder and sleep is overrated, of so they say 😉. Andrijeski’s story is very, very hard to put down, not that we want to 😊, we just need to like our ‘tea’ of choice strong enough to last through the night (or evening, or morning, or whatever time you choose to emerge yourself into Revik’s and Allie’s world).

“The Dragon Lord” is the ninth instalment in the “Bridge and Sword” by JC Andrijeski, a series set in a world reminiscent very reminiscent our own, albeit populated by “Seers” and Humans. Seers possess psychic abilities and are subjugated by the humans who use them for their own purposes. JC Andrijeski’s world feels very familiar and deeply alien at the very same time, populated with highly interesting characters, both seers and humans, that often blur the line between good and evil, which makes them all the more believable and relatable and captivating. Adult urban paranormal fantasy at it best, aimed at mature readers, with open views, all those who crave full dimensional characters and good stories, with a good side dish of action and entertainment, and enjoy following the evolution of the main characters through a wide story arc, those who are not afraid to cross some narrative lines in the name of a good story and explore brand-new perspectives on themes of love, bonding and fate, welcoming multidimensional characters that try to walk the moral line while finding a way to survive their own personal struggles.

Good but I am not routing for happy ending

I enjoyed the story, however I and not Routing for a happy ending to Allie and Revik....
Review contains spoilers!
I am sure I am the only one who doesn't want to see a happy ending for them, but I think they have had too much hurt and pain inflicted upon each other to have a good relationship. Revik drives me nuts. I am hoping Revik sacrifices himself for his family and Allie and Lily make it out of the bond and Allie moves on to someone else. I am sure that is not how things will end.. But that's what I am routing for :) it seems very unrealistic that after everything that has happened that they would both end up alive at the end of this.

Back to the review of the book... I did not like knowing that Allie and Revik had some plan the entire time which the reader didn't fully know about. I am still it sure exactly what was planned and what wasn't. Did Jem know why Allie was using him? Did Jem and Allie really have feelings for each other? It seemed like it but I couldn't tell. If not I am really annoyed at Allies character for what she did to Jem. I really hope the 10th book starts off right where this book left off to help clear some of this up.

I still gave this book 4 stars because even as the 9th book in a series it was exciting, well written and besides the whole Allie and Revik being at odds.. Again... Had a semi new plot and more bad guys.
