Second Death

Rate this book
Second Death:

The Sabrina Shores spirit community is in crisis.
Ghosties are mysteriously disappearing at an alarming rate.
They’re simply…gone. A second death.

The clues are limited, but it’s clear that the one common factor is Gertrude’s Garden, the nightclub social center of the spirit community which just happens to adjoin the Sabrina Shores cemetery: the one place Indigo makes a point of not going. Ever. She has her reasons.

Indigo Eady:

Much to her chagrin, Indigo Eady is a celebrity among spirits. She’s the girl who can see and speak with them. She has a proven track record in helping spirits find their murderers, so it’s no surprise when she’s drafted onto the Missing Paranormal Committee. Who better to help them than the experienced teenage ghost whisperer- investigator and her friends?

Gwen Gardner writes clean, cozy, lighthearted mysteries with a strong ghostly element.
Since ghosts feature prominently in her books, she has a secret desire to meet one face to face – but will run screaming for the hills if she ever does.
Her lifelong love of books and reading transitioned naturally into a love of writing, where adventure can be found around every corner—or up a dark alley or a down slippery cobblestoned path. She thinks there’s nothing better than a good mystery (being an excellent armchair detective herself), unless it’s throwing a ghost or two into the mix just to “liven” things up. Don’t worry, though. Ghosts may be difficult to keep in line, but they’re harmless—mostly. And it turns out they’re pretty good sleuths, too.

With seven novels and various short stories published, Gwen’s work is always moving toward the next creative venture. To find out more about her writing journey, check out her News page or blog.

Gwen holds a BA degree in English Literature from San Diego State University, is a member of Sisters in Crime, an organization for women crime writers, as well as Untethered Realms, a collaborative group of speculative fiction writers.

Gwen adores travel and experiencing the cultures and foods of different countries. She is always up for an adventure and anything involving chocolate – not necessarily in that order.

After losing her father and moving across the sea, Indigo Eady still hasn't settled into her uncle's house yet. There isn't time for it when the ghosts of Sabrina Shores are disappearing. Indigo can see and hear spirits, and it's made her famous amongst the paranormal community. With the help of her friends, both living and dead, she investigates the disappearances. She'll be lucky if she isn't the next one to vanish too!

This is the first fantastic YA book in the supernatural mystery series, the Indigo Eady Afterlife Novellas. I was already a big fan of Indigo and her friends, and this tale is the best one yet. Sabrina Shores is a tiny town, quaint and cozy, but it becomes much larger with the addition of the paranormal world. We are introduced to Gertrude's Garden, a nightclub for the spirits in the area. I love the club and the two gargoyles that run it. Wonderfully funny characters.

We learn a lot more about the supernatural and the ghosts of the town. My favorite, Franny has a bigger role. I really enjoy seeing her and Indigo interact. With the whole new realm opened up, this novella deftly sets the stage for the next one. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I highly recommend the Indigo Eady books to YA and adult readers alike.

This is a great start to the Afterlife trilogy staring Gardner's intrepid ghost investigator, the immensely likable Indigo Eady.

Ghosts are disappearing in Sabina Shores and since Indigo is a celebrity in the town's paranormal community, she and her friends are drafted to help find the missing spirits. It was fun to learn more about the town's ghostly community and meet some new ghosts while getting to spend time with old favorites like Franny.

I loved Gertrude's Garden, which is the center of the ghosts' social life and the scene of one of the most interesting dances I've ever read about.

As usual, Gardner mixes humor with a few spine-tingling scares that leave us worried about the safety of our heroes. I can't wait to dive into book 2 of the series to find out what happens next.

Not a book

This isn't a book, it's part of a book. Well written and interesting, but when a book stops with a cliffhanger and "find out what happens in the next book" it's extremely rare that I buy the next in the series. If it weren't so well written, I would have given it a 1.

This is a fun supernatural romp. I really enjoyed the main characters, Indy, Badger, and Simon. It's rough around the edges, but the story more than makes up for it. One of those I couldn't wait to return to every day. If you want your paranormal to be fun, this is the series for you!

The tales of Indigo Eady get even deeper with these novella stories. Loved reading more about the ghost world. Besides creating intriguing characters, Gwen Gardner also proves herself very qualified at building a different (spirit)world.
