This volume includes the first 2 books of The Night (completed) series.

Book 1: Crimson Night
Welcome one and all to Carnival Diabolique ... or what I affectionately like to call it ... the Carnival of the Damned.

My name is Pandora, and though my face might not look familiar to you, you do know me. I'm a Nephilim. What does that mean? I'm half demon, what's my other name? Lust. I'm the dark craving that drives you mad, makes you want, makes you reckless and stupid. I'm the drug you'll do anything to get your hands on. But I'm not all bad. I fight for light, for goodness and truth. I love my job, killing vampires and werewolves, zombies, and freaks... it's what makes me happy.

But people are starting to disappear and lately I've felt a dark presence lurking around me. I think it might be a death priest ... and that's really bad. There isn't much a demon like me fears, but I fear them. This should have been easy, me killing the fanged freaks, getting rid of my pesky priest problem, but I'm about to be betrayed by the one person I thought I could trust with my life ... but before the night is through I'll be covered in crimson...

Book 2:All Hallows Night:
Secrets and truths, lies and red herrings… which is which? That’s what Pandora’s trying to figure out. Ever since the death of her best, and probably only friend by her own hands, she’s not sure who to trust anymore. The Priest is dead. The Gray Man is… she’s not even sure what. Luc, well, Luc is Luc.

The Order has sent her deep into the heart of Mexico to investigate a potential zombie uprising. She arrives at the start of the Dia de los Muertos festival ... a celebration for the dead and immediately things don’t feel right to her. For one, bodies (the living kind) keep disappearing. They’re not being kidnapped, no, if only things were that simple. Literally there one second, gone the next, she’s not sure what to make of it. On top of that mum’s are floating all over the place. Is that merely symbolism associated with the festival, or is it a clue of something far more sinister?

In this explosive sequel to Crimson Night, an old ally returns and a shocking truth is revealed. One that will turn her investigation into The Order’s duplicity on its head ... and make Pandora question everything she ever thought she knew ...

It took a while for me to get into this, and at first I struggled to hold interest, as it seemed quite a typical urban fantasy/paranormal romance. However, there were some elements which took it from a standard 2 star (it was okay) to a 3 star (I liked it), for me. NB this would be a 4 star rating on Amazon!

While I'm not sure that Pandora, the lead character, is convincing as an ancient Nephilim, she is still quite enjoyable to read. I liked the idea of her feeding off sex, although it is never made clear if it's the orgasm she needs, or the physical contact, or if she siphons off people's energy (and whether she could just masturbate instead...), but with suspension of disbelief firmly in place, the whole thing is quite entertaining. I like that she is having a heap of sex and isn't painted as a 'bad woman' because of it.

I loved the relationship between Pandora and Kemen, very nice. I also liked the tension with Vyxen- why did Luc do it, why? The character of Grace is interesting- a hard-as-nails old lady who gives as good as she gets.

These books are really about the love triangle between Pandora, Luc and Asher. The two male romantic leads are your stereotypical aggressive, overbearing, super-hot and well-endowed alpha males. They both adore Pandora and fight over her. Standard PR format. This kind of thing is overdone in this genre IMO but the author did a decent job, considering I've read this kind of male and this kind of situation a million times. It wasn't too bad until the end of the second book where it got a bit much with all the growling and wall punching and comparing of wang-size. Really never worked out why this is considered so hot- these guys would do my head in. Luc has a marginal element of interest to his character because he just can't admit he loves Pandora, and Asher (cool name!) has a dark secret in his past. But otherwise, not a lot to these fellas beyond the alpha stuff (so far, I suspect they'll develop as the series goes on). Kemen and Bubba are miles more interesting as characters, for me.

The plot gives a good job at being involved and sets up a mystery regarding The Order and a prophecy about Pandora. It takes a back seat to the love thing, in many ways, but I did find myself wondering about the Gray Man and who he was, and what the real story was with Grace.

Overall, this is a fun paranormal romance. I'm not sure why I liked it as much as I did, to be honest, as it's nothing I haven't encountered before. It does a good job of feeling like a book-shaped comfort blanket, though, and is definitely enjoyable. I'm going to buy the next ones, and I hardly ever do that.

I want you to understand it really is two books. So, the first half is finished. These books are about a dark carnival type of people (all demons).. it is dark and dank and not all sweet and rosey the way most women like their fantasies when it comes to otherworldliness. There is more sex than I can handle in this but is not unrealistic it's only a couple of paragraphs as opposed to pages and pages. I took my time reading this because it was so dark and so creepy. When I got out the other end and finished half of the book I think I might've liked it a little bit more than I thought I would . There are some tough things going on with our heroine, and she's just starting to figure somethings out. She still prays to God and she still has a big heart but make no mistake..she plays a demon in The first part and I'm sure she will likely be a demon through the second book and in case you bought the two books thinking that was the end… It certainly is not after reading the book I looked around a bit and there are actually four books to the series. Book 3 and a book 4 are purchased separately. Because I cannot separate these books when I finish the other book or the other half of this book I am giving the on, I may change my rating in order to include the second book. This will be harder on the author because obtaining a four-star Rating with me means the story is excellent. I always say if I mark five stars look to buy the movie rights. Four is excellent. If you don't mind finishing the book and feeling dirty and corrupted in ways you've never thought go ahead and give it a shot. I recommend it highly and yes I will read the second half of this book (book number two). Read this book with the lights on. I don't think it is a scary book but it is creepy in an awesome way. Book 2 in this set is awesome and if I could give it another half of a star I would say the series ranks at near perfection. 4 1/2 stars for this to book introduction. Will I read the other two books? No. There is no cliffhanger and I believe it ended well enough to move on. Now if you wanted to find out more about zombies and demons of all kinds by all means...read on! For me, this was the first series of books that I read about or that might have had a zombie storyline. I don't think I'm quite ready for those demons yet.

I tried to get into this book and I gave it a fair shot. It was really hard for me to get into. I have always been open minded when reading fantasy involving demons, vampires, etc. However, this one seemed to be trying too hard in my opinion. To me, it seemed more about sex than the actual story.

The underlying story that is present was far more interesting than the sex. Don't get me wrong, I love a good naughty book as much as the next girl, but this was weird. The story had a lot of potential, but I find myself dragging myself to read this book. It follows this Neph (weird demon/humanish creature) and the gang of Nephs she belongs to. Most of the book revolves around her inner demon, Lust. Who, like her name, is lusty. Haha.

It started to get interesting as Pandora (the Neph) started to fall victim to another monster who may or may not have wanted to kill her (I really don't know). It started to get really interesting, but then it began to fall flat and revert back to being about Lust. I dunno, I just could not follow.

It didn't do it for me, unfortunately. I had to DNF this book after almost halfway through the combo (which I believe was almost all of book 1). I just couldn't get into it.

I stopped and started this one due to other items coming in from the library. In this story, Pandora the main character is a Nephilim who is half Lust demon and half human. Her main goal is to survive and feed her demon half during her Nephilim clan's carnival gigs, but as the story progresses, she finds herself in a ton of trouble due to the fact that it is believed she is part of a prophecy to bring about Armageddon. She believes a Priest wants to see her dead, but we find out he's actually going against his directive to get rid of her. They end up falling for one another.

I don't know a ton about Nephilim lore to know whether this is in keeping with how they are typically presented. I ended up rooting for Dora and the Priest though. I don't know if I will read the rest of the series, but these two stories ended up being better than I expected.

Supernatural meets Fifty Shades of Grey so more for the adults out there reading.

RS Black, Night Series Collection Book 1
I enjoyed this Urban Fantasy novel immensely. You just can’t go wrong with demons, vampires and zombies. I loved the main character, Pandora. She shares her body with the demon Lust so there are some intense, steamy scenes but mostly she fights her darker side when it comes to doing the right thing. There was an amazing support cast, suspense in puzzling out who the dastardly villain was and edge-of-your-seat fight scenes. The writer’s style is what sets his or her writing apart and makes it unique. Word choice, sentence fluency, and the writer’s voice were spot on. I recommend this series to anyone interested in the supernatural. This book was gifted to me via InstaFreebie and I chose to give an honest review.

Currently reading book 2 in series. I will add my review on that installment soon.

Nephilim, Death Priests, Zombies, Demons, prophecies and a fight of light and dark...just wow!

These first two books were the beginning of a fantastic series. Interesting, as it's told from the half-demon, Pandora's standpoint. And she appears to be our heroine. She's definitely the subject of The Order's prophecy. The books include a crazy cast of characters - a bunch of Nephilim, Dora, Luc, Keman, Bubba; a death priest, Billy/Asher; vampires; zombies and human liaisons.
The Nephilim run an unconventional circus and are a family, until crazy things start happening and Pandora is right in the middle of it. This is a crazy ride and I just couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read book 3!

Intriguing Series.

I am hooked on this series. The characters are well defined and are very strong and believable. It has become a good vs evil story. My only problems are the mistakes in editing ie, words and phrases where they should not be . I know, my punctuation is really bad. The other is how the main character, Pandora is always physically pushing, thrusting the "men" in her life away from her. It is mentioned several times and irritated me more than it should have. Other than that, I have been whole heartly drawn into this world of demons, witches, love and betrayals. Thank you for the escape from my problems for a few hours.

Can't wait

I started book 1 awhile ago and my kindle died. I had been looking for it and never could remember the name of author. I thought it was in a set. I was surprised to find it again. I have over 20,000 ebooks so yeah. Once I picked the story back up i made myself pace so I didn't fly through the books. I didn't want it to end. Now I have to get the rest of the set and can't wait

The First two books in one, Pandora is a half Lust/Nephilim demon under the cover of a carnival the troupe wonder around under orders to dispatch malicious supes. Each Neph is host to one of the seven sins. So for Pandora its Lust, Kem slouth, etc.
Book 1 sees Pandora discovering an underground lair with some demon worship thrown in.
The story is Dark but the not overaly done and I have enjoyed it thoroughly.

Excellent two book set!

Cannot get better! I save 5 stars for buying movie rights. This book has a dirty gross demon vibe. Great storyline exists, second half went faster as I got used to what I can only describe as a more realistic monster vibe....there is no human\vampire attraction. Not a cotton candy love story...

Pretty cliche

Starts with a lot of over the top typical descriptions. Nothing that stood out. Had the vibe of a trying to make a strong female character by making everyone including other females weaker. I honestly couldn't get through first chapter.

This series started really strong for me. The world building was intriguing and the characters were complex and interesting. By the second book, though, I started to become bored. This series didn't hold my attention or interest for very long and i found myself skipping pages.

Wow better than the first

Although the writing was great as was the story in both books, I really did love it and it was so different than anything else I have read, I'm sad to say the last half of the second book had some bad editing. Enough so that I had to re-read sentences over a few times for them to makes sense. The editor forgot to remove words, so a word like "for" would be in there twice in different spots because the author wasn't sure how to word the sentence, like which ways does this sound best? and then no one removed the second word or rearranged the words correctly. This happened more than a few times and that really kind of ruins it for me.
This book was really good, fast paced and too well written for this kind of sloppiness. I think you need a new editor!

But besides all that I did like this story and plan on reading the rest. This was the first two books by the way, so it was a really good read. Both were as I said fast paced, I really liked the characters and loved Pandora and Asher. I can't wait to find out more about him though. Really I loved how all the characters were written. Not too much I go but enough you get the idea of who they are although I'd like to find out more about envy and her life.

I think this series had a lot of potential, but became a little too caught up in its desire to be risqué with out offending the general YA audience

I got through the first installment, and a bit into the second, but was left feeling unsatisfied by the indifference of it trying to be one thing or the other. On the one hand, It felt like it wanted to be erotica, but was just too pg to make that leap, almost as though the author wouldn't jump into the sexually charged side of the story enough to make it good, or couldnt find a way to tell the story in a tasteful way. On the other it wanted to be a paranormal story geared towards the YA audience. I feel it tried too hard to be both, and so failed. It was more adult than I would let my daughter read, but to of for me (given the premise if the story).

My personal opinion is to either embrace the smut and find a way to write it tastefully, or leave the smut out of the story. Since the story is about the demon lust, leaving it out would be a difficult task to contemplate. You can write a tastefully erotic story with out it being dirty, but you will need to leave the YA audience to do so.

I have to say that this book completely blew me away! It was jam packed full of twists, turns, betrayals, and then "the truth" coming out. It keep me on my toes till the very end and even then I was drooling for book 3 and 4 so I could get the rest of the story!

You have a book that is semi horror while at the same time a love story... granted with a twist! Now, I hate Zombie books.. in fact most horror books.. do not read them at all. But this I could not put down. I was cheering for Lust and Dora from the start in book 1. Then you add all the little supporting folks and you have a super rich, winding story! It back tracks, then forward you go .. and just as you think you have figured out the plot ... here comes another twist you just do not see coming!

I HIGHLY recommend this book. It is so worth the price as both books are full complete novels in there own right. You will not be able to put them down till the very end! This author has a rich writing style that will not disappoint but will entertain till the very end!

I grabbed this two-book deal as a freebie. I didn't even really read what I was "buying"- just saw that it was free.
When I decided to break open one of the many freebies on my Kindle, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I'd actually already read book one. So I immediately skipped to book two and started reading. I might have been better off reading book one again to remember everything that had happened. But I wasn't that smart.
Took me a few chapters to remember some of what happened previously, or rather I might not have remembered everything but I still enjoyed book two.
I wouldn't recommend reading book two without having read the first. There is a lot that I think you learn in book one about the world. I don't think you'd enjoy the second as much without having that necessary background.

I'd actually give only 3 1/2 stars.

If you like a decent urban fantasy and want to try something new, I'd recommend this series. I'm about to check out book three.

This book had to grow on me, but boy did it suck me in the more I read. For me, the main character was hard to resonate with. She wasn't good, but she also wasn't delectably evil either. She didn't seem to have any redeemable qualities. Then towards the end of book one we're exposed to a deeper side of her and that's when things really changed for me (and when the action really kicks up). As the story unfurls and gets more complex, you get deeper exposure to the characters. How the story grows and blossoms over the two books is what really got me enthralled. A dark, Gothic novel with passion.

I was pleasantly surprised by this author as I had not come across her books before and I could not put it down. The characters intrigued me and I had read about Nephilim before but not when they had the 7 deadly sins attached and Lust was one hell of a sin to bear. There were lots of twists and I liked the main character Pandora as she was such a strong character yet she was different because she was trying to hold on to her humanity. Definitely a must read and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys kick ass heroines.

These two books are amazing - great buy. The characters are interesting and captivating. The world is dark but blended in beautifully. The plot, while slightly slow in the beginning, is engaging and curious. I love how you have the seven sins in a demon and I love the interaction that you get with it. I have always loved dark books with excellent suspense and action with a kickass female lead and this book(s) delivers that in spades. It's rare that I re-read books so soon after finishing them, but this is one series that I just cannot get enough of.

Awesome!!!!

I wasn't sure what to think of this book, looking at the reviews. But I decided to try it and all I can say is amazing. I loved the action and suspense throughout the whole book. I also loved the fact that I got the first two books in the series for free. I will definitely being buying the next two! I loved the use of the different creatures and how the author changes your mind on how these creatures work. She made different that what you see in all the movies. That was awesome for me! This book probably is not for everyone, but it's worth a read!
