Rate this book
A forbidden love.

A broken heart.

A daring escape.

A mind blowing twist.

Womankind has banded together to make the Planet Venus in
the seventieth century both a technological marvel, and cultural nightmare.
While women are revered and placed on the highest of pedestals, men are kept in
bondage, doomed to a future of abuse and servitude. Love between men and women
is strictly forbidden, punishable by mutilation or death.

Although she serves on the highest council on the planet,
Empress Taylor is willing to risk her life for the scorching love of her slave
Nickolas. Her dreams of escape are given wings when her best friend Eva's slave
runs away, igniting a chain of events that will bring them to the deadliest
place of all, the forbidden planet, Earth.

But Earth is not what it seems. Flung back through time,
they find themselves in the middle of The American Civil War, where Taylor and
Eva's skin puts them in grave danger. As they struggle to understand this new
planet, and this thing called race, peril awaits them at every turn, and to
keep alive they must once again escape.

I'll be honest, I'm not a huge science fiction fan--it's just not my usual genre for books or even movies. This book, The Escape, may have changed that mind set for me.

This book has a super interesting interesting story line. Women, who were fed up living on Earth transform Venus into a safe living environment. Tired of living underneath man, they enslave all men. When each girl comes of age, she picks a male slave for herself out of the slave catalog. Men are nothing but slaves. To get too attached, defend the rights of, or in rare circumstances even fall in love, is illegal. Punishment could result in jail or even being put to death.

16 year old Taylor, has loved her slave Nick since the day she brought him home. Tired of not being able to show her love for him and living a life of secrecy, she dreams of living as the old books talk about on earth.

Nick finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time with Taylor's best friends slave, AJ. With their backs up against the wall, the two girls plot to rescue their slaves and escape to earth, which is forbidden.

Once arriving on earth the four foreigners find that they are not only on earth, but have gone back in time. Back to a time where colored people are looked down upon. They run into a helping friend, Marshall, who explains to them that the girls who once reigned were now being looked down upon due to their dark skin.

A twist in the plot, this book keeps you turning the page. Adventure, love, murder-- I only wish that we knew more about Marshall, he was my favorite character!

I look forward to the next book, and highly suggest this to my sci-fi fans.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Escape (Eve Ate the Apple).' As an author, myself, I know how difficult it is to find an original storyline that hasn't been done yet, and Seven Steps accomplished just that. She is an amazing writer, easily pulling you into futuristic and historical worlds, times, places, while elaborating on the possibilities. I can't wait for her next book to reconnect with her realistic characters, and find out if they will finally overcome the barriers of unjust and oppressive worlds and get the very thing they want the most. - original review posted on May 7, 2015 on Amazon.
