When the daughter of San Francisco socialites is brutally assaulted, Jamie Vail makes it her mission to find the attacker. A seasoned Sex Crimes Inspector with the SFPD, work is what Jamie does best. She isn’t distracted by the fact that her adopted son and the victim go to the same school.

Jamie can almost set aside the fact that the man caught on tape with the victim is someone she’s been wary of for years—her son’s biological father. At home, her son is performing poorly in school, becoming more reclusive, and nothing she does can draw him out.

More frightening is the fact that every piece of evidence brings her closer to home...

As her case escalates into a homicide investigation, Jamie teams up with old allies and rookie club members from across the department. Loyalties are tested and the stakes raise as the case becomes frontpage news and the spotlight lands on her.

With his future on the line, Jamie must find Charlotte's attacker to prove her son's innocence before he lands behind bars, or worse…

Jamie's Story

After working my way through a major part of the Rookie Club, I found Jamie's story more complex and involved than the others. The author adds more characters, which allows the plot to thicken and keep the reader guessing who the "bad guys" are until the very end. I was diverted from time to time by unneeded expository stories that were totally unattached to the plot. They were frustrating when I was dying to get to the next leg of the plot. I truly enjoy this method of telling a number of connected tales. At this point, I feel like I really know the main characters like I was one of them!

A definite must read book and series

This was a fantastic, complex, and heartbreaking story that you certainly won't want to miss. Some of the situations are a parents worst nightmare. Although most parents would do anything to help and/or protect their children, sometimes it's beyond anyone's control. This is definitely a series that you'll want to read! I honestly wish that there were many more stories in the series. I loved reading about these brave, strong, and independent women.
I would highly recommend that you read the Dr. Schwartzman series as well. I don't know what the preferred reading order is, but I would suggest that you read this series and then the Dr. Schwartzman series. Going by the time lines, that would give you the best reading experience for both series. There's also quite a bit of character crossover between the two series, which means you'll get even more of your favorite characters. They're all fantastic stories, and you definitely won't be disappointed.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

"Riveting"

Another great episode in a successful series. In this one. Jamie Vail struggles with whether her adopted son could have been involved in a vicious attack that left a young girl in a coma. There are always so many other things going on around the basic thread. That's the joy and the drawback with a series like this. Sometimes, the support story seems to linger unresolved, but if you read the excerpt of the next cab off the rank... all will be revealed. Even if you read this series out of order, or as a standalone you'll enjoy the descriptive passages. They're something else. I wish I could hit those heights.

It was good but not as good as books 1-4. I got tired of Jamie being so insecure and questioning of her motives. Also, got tired of her 'mother pain' issues. Annabelle Schwartzman has her own series and the bits about her seemed unnecessary in this particular book. Her series is excellent. I am glad that I read this book but I was unsatisfied with the ending and even though I had trouble putting the book down until the end, when it ended it was a surprise and then it left you hanging. What happens to the boys?

Great series

At first I wasn’t thrilled that this was another book with Jamie Vail, I had hoped for a new character (not sure who lol) but it was actually great to see how far Jamie and tony and Z have all come. Her character changed so much as she grew her family. I loved the plot and of course the twists. I was very surprised to see how it turned out! I also love how we get to hear some chapters from the criminal, it definitely keeps you guessing and thinking of who it could be. I love Danielle’s books!

Placing trust in your loving family is very important in life.

Really liked this final book in the Rookie Club (#5). Being filled with mystery, suspense and thrills around every corner, I could hardly put it down. Recommend this book, and it's whole 5 book series to all persons who like thrillers in their mystery reading. Gave 5 stars easily and plan to continue reading Ms Girard's other books. Excellent author indeed!!!

Excellent book! Excellent and exceptional writer that Danielle is.All her books are very thrilling, exciting and so very disscribtive and detailed.
The only problem I have is that once I start reading, I cannot put it down until.I have completed it,which causes me an issue because I cannot start or finish my chores!
I do not care, because her books are worth it!!!
I will read any book that she writes and recommend them to anyone who loves a thrill of edge of your seat moment thru reading!!!

I started reading Danielle Girard’s books with the first book in the Annabelle Schwartzman series, which I chose for Amazon Prime’s First Reads. I like crime mysteries/thrillers as mind candy and Girard writes well with interesting characters. The Rookie series actually introduces Dr. Schwartzman so it was interesting to get a little more color on her backstory. Most of these books are available on Kindle Unlimited (I’m a subscriber) so I can tear through them without spending a fortune.

A bit loose in places

Have come to expect a tight crisp story line from Ms. Girard, so was a tad disappointed with the loose construction of this one.
Previous books have been a one sitting job, when possible. This one was picked up & put down numerous times - just didn't have the same initial bite to get you hooked & drawn in.

Another outstanding book by Mrs. Girard! The characters are consistent throughout (across all of her books). There are many twists and turns. I found myself wondering who the "bad guy" was. This book is so well written, I believe, that even the most discriminating of readers won't be able to figure out who the "bad guy" is.

Everything to Lose

A girl was thrown down a flight of steps. In the hospital they weren’t sure if she’d make it. Jamie’s adopted som Z was keeping secrets from her. Did he know something or wAs he involved.

Not one of my favorites in the Rookie series . I thought the story had to much going on. Too many characters involved. Overall it was okay.

Enjoy the rookie club

This book had less rookie club meet ups that the last, which I missed. This was a tricky story and left me wondering about what place the mitt and it’s marking on the car had. How did cousin fit in, can see Debutante finding the cousin and mixing it up. Also, wondered about new MEs ex but then saw this addressed in next story.

Great Series!

I really enjoyed this series. I've come to know and love Z and Jamie. The characters became so real to me. I would LOVE another book in this series to see how Z and Jamie continue on through their lives.

Family can put you through the wringer!

Good story, albeit a bit slow. Homicide Detective, Jamie is investigating a hit-and-run murder then realizes that the case is related to a girl in a coma. Somehow her teenage son is involved. Can Jaime stop a killer before it’s too late for her son?

Great ending to a wonderful series.

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all the characters in this series. I wish I had read this one before diving into the Medical examiner series, but it’s okay if you don’t. You just get a bit more backstory by reading these first. Excellent series and highly recommended.

A well written book.

This tells the story of family first. It also shows that you have to be careful about how you handle family and friends. Trust is an important part of our lives and if we don't handle it right it can cause trouble.

This is another good book in series. Must read in order. This is Jamie's book and her life with adopted son Z and her childhood friend. A difficult story to know whether jamie should trust her son or believe the evidence stacking against him. Complex + compelling.

Good reading

The Rookie Club Books 1 through 4 were great!! I was hooked and had a hard time putting them down long enough to eat and sleep! Book 5 was a let down as it included too much from the first four.

Thrilling and suspenseful

Everything to lose by Danielle Girard is number five in her Rookie Club series. The Rookie Club is a group of female law enforcement members and each book focuses on a different member. The series is thrilling and suspenseful with likable characters.

Another great book!!!

I have finished two of her series now and each book is somehow better than the one before. She has an amazing knack for mysteries that I have not seen in too many authors but I keep looking for.

Great 👍series

Well written series of the lifes of women who have chosen to dedicate their lives to serve in different areas of law enforcement. Each book takes a different job within the police department and dedicates it to the woman. Always a presonal angle too
