When Ash Summerland left the Academy of Magical Beings, he was sure he'd put his troubles behind him. But when his girlfriend, Kendall, is almost killed by an old enemy over something he knows little about, Ash is forced to confront the demons of his past if he wants to save his and Kendall's future. With his fairy magic fading and his djinn magic more powerful than ever, Ash isn't sure he can stop the evil from closing in around him. Although Kendall is the only thing keeping him from going over the edge, if he can't learn to balance out his magic and find a way to defeat his enemies once and for all, both his world, and the girl he loves will be lost forever.
Chantele Sedgwick is a YA author, harpist, wife to one and stay-at-home mom to four. She loves happy endings, Kit Kats and judging by her book shelves, buys way too many books.
It's funny, it's been two years since I read the first book and I loved it! And I was so excited to read the sequel but, I think I took too long. Maybe I'm getting too old to this kind of juvenil stories, I don't know! The dialogs are too shallow and the jokes are too silly. At least, the main couple don't get separated as usually happens in those kind of sequel! We have some good resolutions, specially about Ash's mother and his father. Well, i like stories about Djinn and maybe I was expecting a darker side in this book, as it seemed it was going to happens here, with the way it ended the first book but, anyway, it's a nice story, but nothing too memorable for me.
This is probably my fault, one of those “It's not you, it's me” things. I shouldn't' have gone on with this series. I didn't enjoy the first book, it didn't leave me with any desire, any curiosity, to go on with this series. So why did I pick this book up? I have no idea. The thing is: I'm not interested in seeing where this story is going. I don't care what happens to the characters. I just don't care. I gave it a shot, but the beginning has failed to intrigue me, and I refuse to waste my time on something I know I'm not going to like. DNF: 14%
Solis 3.5 stars for me. I think I am a little burnt out on teenage stories. I probably should have waited for this one a bit. But I did like it, I just liked the first one better. But I feel like this is still worth reading.
I enjoyed the unraveling of the secret in the story, but some parts did drag on for me. It was fun to read, though it would have been better with less smooching scenes.. bit distracting on those. Otherwise, it's good that most everyone had a happy ending.
Lots of near death experiences for the main characters, but usually it is the secondary characters that die. Interesting story line- one thing I find with Young Adult books is that at 16 and 17, these kids know they love someone- so deeply that they would give their life for them. Hmmm.... when I was that age, I am pretty sure I didn't know what love really was, so when you read about kids putting their life on the line and acting without caution- ( but of course even if they die, someone can bring them back right?) it makes it feel a little far fetched. Still... I like the characters and enjoyed the story.
Not Your Average Happy Ending picks up where Not Your Average Fairy Tale left off. Ash Summerland has given up his world to be with his girlfriend, Kendall, and it looks like a happily ever after is in the cards for the 2 lovebirds until one fateful night, Kendall goes running by herself and finds herself in a confrontation with Dax, the Djinn, over a necklace that Ash gave her. When Dax attacks Kendall and nearly kills her, Ash sets off with Sam to find Dax and, hopefully, his father.
Overall, the story was wonderful. I found it entertaining and loved being back in this world. I look forward to reading more from Chantele.
If there was no mention of Kendall's or Ash' name at the start of each chapter, I wouldn't be able to tell whose voice was telling the story. I don't know why, but Ash' voice didn't sound like a teenage boy's voice.
Ash may be the main character, but I fell in love with Sam...and Glade! Sam is just so funny and cool, and a very loyal friend and companion. Glade is....aahhh... he's just so full of mystery. I have this impression of tall, dark, and brooding about him. I hope there'll be a spinoff or companion novel from Sam's and Glade's POV. Or better, a whole new series...hehe
After loving Not Your Average Fairy Tale, I immediately purchased the second in the series. The story in Not Your Average Fairy was engaging but the writing was not as tight as NYAFT. I found the sequel much easier to put down and not as easy to pick up as the first. It was still a fast read and I kept going because I was interested enough in Kendall and Ash's story to read until the end. Not disappointed I read it, but probably not one I would reread.
Absolute lovely sequel to one of my favorite reads of 2012. The story starts strong and doesn't let go. Many twists and surprises await you as you read. Full review coming to both blogs.
Delightfully fun story to wrap up this sweet series. Love all the twists and turns. Really keeps you turning the pages because there's something new around every corner. Loved it!
This is the ending (as far as I could tell) to the "Not Your Average Fairy Tale" story. It was a good story with a lot going on. This is definitely a young adult series.
