No harm done . . . right?

Hello!
I wrote The Twelve Dates of Christmas, You Had Me at Merlot and Catch Me If You Cannes. Hope you like them. You look super-nice today.

Oh, here's the official bio:

Lisa Dickenson was born in the wrong body. She was definitely meant to be Beyonce. Despite this hardship, she grew up in Devon attempting to write her own, completely copyright-infringing versions of Sweet Valley High, before giving Wales a go for university, and then London a go for the celeb-spotting potential. She's now back in Devon, living beside the seaside with her husband and forcing cream teas down the mouths of anyone who'll visit. She is sadly still not Beyonce.

I am a MASSIVE fan of Lisa Dickenson and her books, I always love that her books have been so fresh and addictive before so I could not wait to read part 1 of her latest release – Catch Me If You Cannes! (I just LOVE the title so much I can’t even describe!)

Jess has decided it’s time to get out of her comfort zone and live a little. So when her best friend Bryony, a journalist on a gossip magazine, is sent to cover the Cannes Film Festival, Jess decides to seize the day and go along for the ride. Two weeks of glitz, glamour and exclusive entry into celeb-filled parties is just the kind of adventure Jess needs. Reality soon bites though when Jess and Bryony find they’re staying in a dingy hotel far away from all the action and Bryony’s expenses budget barely covers a glass of local wine. Undeterred, the two women are determined to live like the elite and enjoy one fancy night out to begin their holiday. So what if they have to tell a few white lies along the way? It’s just this once. No harm done . . . right?

Once again Lisa Dickenson has created a story that is filled with fun, laughter and has you hooked from the very beginning! Lisa’s writing is so addictive to read, she writes in such a way that you can’t help but fall in love with her writing and feel like Lisa is speaking to you personally, I always imagine her stories are like her telling me them herself over a few drinks – it just flows so easily and every moment spent in Lisa’s words is THOROUGHLY enjoyable.

The characters are AMAZING. I loved Bryony and Jess and I was SO excited for them to be going to Cannes, it was like they were living my dream! But when they find out they are staying in a dingy hotel far away from the action and not sipping wine and attending glitzy parties as they thought, I really really felt for them….I just wanted them to live life and have the best time over there! They are SO likeable and I really got behind both Bryony and Jess as they try to make the most of their time out there – I was so impressed with their determination! I liked that as well as the fun and the laughs there were a few more emotional moments too.

Lisa’s humour is back and it is FANTASTIC! I giggled, I snorted with laughter, and I smiled my way through the first part of what looks set to be a BRILLIANT story! And in the beautiful setting of Cannes too….this is the perfect read for the summer! I am certain the other parts will be as gripping and entertaining as the first, and I cannot wait to read them!

Finding myself all kinds of excited on a recent Sunday afternoon, I couldn’t wait to crack open Lisa Dickenson’s latest release and be swept away. And swept away, I was.

Being introduced to BFFs Bryony and Jess was a joy, imagining myself enjoying the Cannes’ sun with them and laughing along with their light banter. As part one gets under way, the beginnings of what I am sure is going to be a tale filled with mischief and a few hilarious tight spots is set in motion as the girls arrive in Cannes.

Jess meets a fellow chocolate spread fanatic, Leo, and sparks fly immediately so I really hope something more develops there, as the pair seem a great match. Bryony, in the meantime, is determined to land a story that will raise her profile as a serious journalist and the untruths begin slipping pass her lips as easily as the expensive booze.

My only one gripe is that I was asked to review each four parts of separately and so I decided to read each one individually, instead of powering through the whole thing, which is what I really wanted to do (not so much of a gripe really, more of an impatient whine).

Bring on part two next week!

I fell in love with Lisa Dickenson's brilliant novels when I read her hilarious You Had Me At Merlot for Novelicious last summer, followed by The Twelve Dates of Christmas in the lead up to the festive season. Both started out as digital serials, but I am glad that I read them in full as it would've been agony to have to wait between each amazing part for the next instalment to come out. Lisa is one of those authors that completely pulls her readers into the story and doesn't let them go until that final page, and with Catch Me If You Cannes she has waved her magic typing fingers again.

Perfectly timed for the summer that is upon us (or, you know, what passes for summer in Britain) Lisa's latest novel, as the title may give away, is set amid the heat and excitement of Cannes, which is brimming with celebrities for the annual film festival.

Our main protagonist, Jess, is neither a famous face nor one of the rich jet-setters that harbour their yachts ashore of the glistering French town, but luckily for her she has a journo friend who is invited to spend some time in a not-very-glamorous hotel that is still close enough to all the film festival action. Not that Bryony has much sway with the organisers, mind, as the gossip magazine she works for isn't exactly a well-respected or even known news outlet, but it gets them to coastal town and Jess figures that is enough.

After all, the place is awash with glamorous people and the odds of bumping into a celebrity, literally preferably, surely are high?

I know I have mentioned this before, but as it was more evident than ever it bears repeating: Lisa is unbelievably funny! As soon as I dug into the novel she had me snorting at her hilarious and wacky imagination and the crazy escapades her main character managed to get herself into. Only a few pages in there was a scene that I found too good not to share, so I Tweeted and Instagrammed the quote (as you do), but I soon realised I probably should not do that or I would be sharing the whole book digitally as there was something laugh-out-loud funny on practically every single page.

Jess was a wonderfully likeable main character and even if her decisions weren't always the brightest ones as a reader you can't help but love her and root for her – especially in the men department. Because as if celebrities and sunshine galore isn't enough, there are also a few very swoon-worthy men (who I imagined to be topless for the duration of the novel, even if it didn't fit the story entirely), some unexpected intrigue and excitement and generous lashings of Nutella. Yes, Nutella takes centre stage within Catch Me If You Cannes. I've had toast with this scrumptious hazelnut-chocolate spread for breakfast for the past two weeks and I only just realised where this sudden craving has come from!

Catch Me If You Cannes is a stonkingly good summer read and one that needs to make its way onto your kindle for the holiday season.

On a side note, I read the novel when it was 20 degrees weather in London...in April. Coincidence? I think not. Lisa Dickenson is clearly magic and can bring summer to England with the sheer power of her writing pen*

*reading this book does not guarantee any actual sunshine, but there will be imaginary rays aplenty as you'll be transported to a tropical location that may or may not be in a universe where gay Sherlock and gay Moriarty are an actual thing.

I have been lucky enough to meet Lisa in person twice and have read her previous novels. When I was offered the opportunity to read and review her new series 'Catch me if you Cannes' I jumped at the chance. I knew if it was going to be any like her previous books I was in for a treat.

I am going to be reviewing each part separately so make sure you check out all the reviews.

Bryony is a journalist for Seleb magazine and she is being sent to Cannes film festival. Jess her best friend is bored and fed up and ends up going along for the ride. Listening to the two girls conversations is hilarious, they are also sometimes heart felt moments, which I feel is slightly different for Dickenson, I am used to her writing very funny stories, which are light hearted and fun. While this story has begun in the same way, we also see a softer side to her writing and there are times when I really felt for Bryony and Jess. It is more emotional. I really enjoyed this part of Dickenson's writing, but also was pleased that the story is still fun.

Bryony and Jess are really likable characters and you feel for them, the fact that they are in a dingy hotel away from the main action. I also felt sorry for Bryony, it felt like she was on a wild goose chase, sent by her boss!

I really loved the scene with Jess and Leo buying waffles, however I was shouting at the pages, 'Number! Give him your number!!'

My favourite part of the story so far is when the girls go to a posh restaurant for dinner, being told there is no room for them and the strangers taking them under their wing. This was a very funny scene and littered with the few odd white lies, which I am sure are going to come and bite them on the bum in the future!

So far I am really loving this story and I urge everyone to grab a copy. This is perfect for the summer season and either getting you ready for your holiday or while you are there.

I would like to thank the publisher for sending this in exchange for an honest review. Make sure you look out for review number two!

Lisa Dickenson is back with a serialised 4 parts novel and I couldn't be more excited. I loved Lisa's previous books and completely fell in love with her witty and fresh style where the laughs are guaranteed and Catch Me If You Cannes couldn't have started better. In this first part we are introduced to Jess and Bryony two very different but close friends who are gonna stay for two weeks in Cannes while Bryony covers the famous festival for her magazine.

Jess, as Bryony says, is a ray of sunshine, and I liked her from page one. Tired of never leaving her small village, she has decided this trip is gonna be full of adventures. And what adventures! Soon the two friends find themselves surrounded by A-listers, oysters and yachts. All this in the beautiful setting of Cannes, with its sunshine and azure sea waters.

I don't want to give anything away but I can assure you that you'll wish that you were in Cannes too, partying with these girls and meeting mysterious men too. This is the perfect introduction to a fun crazy story, perfect for this summer. Better serve with a refreshing cocktail or glass of bubbly!

Diving into part 2 right now, I can't wait to find out how the story continues!

I loved *Catch me if you Cannes* part 1. Written by Lisa Dickenson, I was confident that this would be another great start to her new book series. It had everything I have come to expect from Lisa's writing, humour to the point of sniggering, thought provoking, a depth of the destination, deep friendship and the hope of love. I can't wait for part 2.

Lisa gave us a great holidays in Italy last year and this time it's time for France, and not any France but Cannes itself! I've packed my bag already with flip - flops and very roomy sarongs and am readyyyyy! Yes, I would go anytime and anywhere with Lisa and her brilliant sense of humour and colourful, witty storytelling. Just imagine what great holidays would it be!

"Catch Me if You Cannes" Part 1 introduces us mainly to our two main characters, Jess and Bryony. Bryony works for a tabloid that is fairly at the end of all the tabloids but nevertheless, her boss sends to her to Cannes Film Festival to cover as many juicy, sexy, fat scandals as possible and Jess, who lately seems a little low, decides to tag along with her best friend. The girls very quickly find themselves in the middle of action, among the right crowd and well, Jess meets a boy!
OK, they weren't expecting to stay in this hotel at the outskirts of Cannes where, if you want to see the see, you must do some yoga - like moves, and so when they are taken for other people, they just decide to fib a little, throw in some white lies and see when reality is going to bite again. For now, they are determined to live the celebrity life and enjoy their holidays as much as they Can(nes).

OK, this time I will try a new approach to book reviewing.

WHAT'S RIGHT WITH THIS:
Characters.
Setting.
Dialogues.
Pace.
EVERYTHING!
Lisa can create the most incredible, warm, realistic characters ever, characters that I have a feeling I used to know when I was a baby, through my childhood, teenage years and half of my adult life. They might be incredibly funny and easy to like people, but there is also incredible depth to all of them, and they all feel like real people, as if you could just stretch a hand and feel them. I fell in love with Jess and Bryony from the start - Jess, who has a cafe back in Cornwall, is right now escaping all the troubles and worries that were preoccupying her, and oh my, there was something in this girl that made me want to hug her hard and never let her go. Bryony seems to be the louder and more feisty of the two friends, larger than life, but there is still such a vulnerability to her, and she's dreaming of becoming a serious journalist one day, and they compliment each other so great, and it is only Lisa who could capture all those contrasts in the girls so well.

But also all the other supporting characters are just a real pleasure to read and you can't help but root for them or want to slap them, or wipe away the smirk on their faces, yes, Celine. Lisa knows when and where add a new character and she finds uses for all of them, they are all absolutely needed and add tons of fun to the story.

I absolutely loved the fact that the girls just went with the flow. Oh well, when being mistaken for being other people, some kind of VIPs, they just went with it, and methinks, why not??? They had the guts for this and I admired them for this and because I would be too scared, it doesn't mean that they couldn't spend the holidays of their lives, right?

Lisa can so incredibly vivid describe the settings, and it's no exception with this story. I could feel the warmth of the sun on my face, see the blue water sparkling and oh my gosh, what I need right now are crepes with Nutella!!! (Well, because there are no crepes in the distance of around 160 km from me, I've just settled for Nutella. It did the trick as well). And oh, what with my nosiness, I couldn't wait to spot a celebrity or two, partying on the biggest yachts in the world!

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS?

Well, there is NOTHING WRONG with this!
Well, maybe that it makes you want to travel to Cannes, like right NOW.

VERDICT:
Packed full, as it usually is with Lisa's stories, of incredible, belly - ache one - liners. There is something magic and addictive to Lisa's writing. It's so light and easy to follow, and it leaves you full of sparkles and will to live, really. But it's not only laugh - out - loud story about the adventures of two best friends, oh no, Lisa, as usually, has added some softer and emotional moments to the plot as well, that just made me love the story much, much more, because well, life is not only a bed of roses, right? But let's be honest, it is the ultimate chick - lit, summer-y read that's going to leave you with cheesy grins. There is a feel - good factor to it, sunshine, humour and good vibes, everything that you could wish for!

Thank you to Little Brown and Clara Diaz for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review

I love Lisa's writing style, it is just like being out for a coffee with mates having a good gossip and generally talking the best kind of rubbish which I hope you comes across as a compliment!

Catch Me If You Cannes or CMIYC for future reference!, is exactly what I'd expect from Lisa, it is all about two lovely ladies Jess and Bryony, and their trip to France.

Bryony works for Sleb magazine and she has been ordered to go to Cannes for the film festival and root out hot, dirty, juicy gossip! Jess makes the decision to get away from her humdrum life and go with Bryony for a bit of excitement in the sun with possibly a handsome Frenchman thrown in. Imagining beautiful hotels and eating lovely food, will the reality be to their liking?!

Taking off their rose tinted glasses they discover that they have been put up in the most basic of hotels nowhere near any of the happening events and everything costs a fortune. Still unperturbed they carry on and try and make the most of it.

Whilst Bryony is out chasing some gossip, Jess goes for a wander to sample the local shops and eateries, now she samples a crepe with Nutella, OMG it sounds so decadent, I mean there is nothing posh about Nutella but mmmm just writing about makes me want to go and steal my kids jar from my kitchen cupboard! Anyway I digress whilst enjoying her culinary wonder she is approached by man, he thinks shes French, she is impressed he thinks that but they both discover that they are English.

What does he want, he wants a crepe, I don't blame him I want that crepe too and that jammy cow Jess not only shows him where to get one she bloody well gets another one too, I was beginning to like her now I am just totally jealous of her crepe eating! She gets to know her Nutella loving stranger and she is satisfied he is not a nutter, he promises that he will see her around the festival.

Feeling pleased with herself she meets back up with Bryony and the two hit the town, attempting to a go in to a restaurant they are stop by a hostess who is not the mostess who snootily tells them that even though the place is empty they are not getting but they are in luck some acquaintances are seated through the back of the restaurant and they invite the girls to join them.

The girls love it but their new friends have amazing jobs and not wanting to put off their friends they bend the truth slightly, fabricating some little white lies in to their lives, The question is can they keep up the lies or will they get caught out?

CMIYC is an adorable read, it does not taking itself too seriously but it is a seriously good read! The setting, those crepes and Bryony and Jess make for a fantastic story with a few OMG don't say that moments when the girls start to embellish the truth!

So what happens next to the girls, well come back same time next week to find out!

Jess and Bryony have been best friends since they were little girls; back then it was them against the world and that still seems to be the case. Jess owns her own cafe but feels it's time to do something to spice up her life a bit. Bryony works as a journalist for a gossip magazine and is sent to France to find some juicy stories at the Cannes Film Festival. Jess immediately spots a chance for an adventure and decides to go with Bryony. However, their hopes for a glamorous holiday are quickly shattered; their average hotel is far away from all the action and they don't have anywhere near enough money to be able to party with all the celebrities. Jess and Bryony decide they will make the best of things, they're in Cannes after all! So, telling a few lies here and there won't hurt anyone and will help them have a good time... Or not?

It's relatively easy to write a review of one of Lisa Dickenson's novels because I just seem to love every sentence that she gets onto paper, and 'Catch Me If You Cannes' is no exception to that! It has an entertaining storyline, great characters, a fabulous setting, and it's really funny. Lisa Dickenson really has her own distinctive writing style; a style that's easy to get lost in and one that even seems to be a bit addictive, because I didn't want to put the book down (but also didn't want it to end!). It's also perfect for the chick lit genre and I dare to say that anyone who is a chick lit fan will love this e-book series.

Bryony and Jess are great characters. I loved their friendship; the two are each other's opposites which is probably what makes them work together so well. From the first chapter I was already rooting for them and just wanted to jump into the novel and join them on their Cannes adventure. Of course there's also enough man-candy to swoon over and a captivating plotline that made me both laugh and wonder what was going to happen next. I personally got to read this as a novel, instead of having to wait for the next part to be released, which resulted in me being really immersed in the story. Overall, 'Catch Me If You Cannes' is another chick lit hit for Lisa Dickenson; a feel-good, thoroughly funny, and amazingly entertaining romantic comedy which you need to add to your suitcase right now. Your summer holiday won't be complete without it!

Catch Me If You Cannes is yet another four part series from the fantastic Lisa Dickenson that having loved her previous books I was so excited to start!

Catch Me If You Cannes is a great start to this wonderful four part series of ebooks. In this part we are introduced to totally likeable and awesome characters Bryony and Jess. They are polar opposites in the looks department, with Jess being tiny and blonde and Bryony be tall and dark, but they could not be better friends. Bryony is a journalist for Sleb magazine, which is a gossip mag and not quite where she wants to be in the journalism world, but it gets Bryony a pass to Cannes Film Festival. It also gives her best friend Jess an excuse to leave Cornwall for a bit and have some fun. They are in for two weeks of glitz, glamour and a LOT of celebrity shoulder rubbing and it's just what Jess needs.
I was actually really lucky to be able to go to Cannes a few years ago, so when Lisa was describing it, I could actually picture myself there again. It is also of course set in the summer and I could almost feel the heat emanating from the pages. This is definitely a read for those summer months or leading up to it. I am desperate for a summer holiday now!

Lisa is always great at creating great characters that you take to instantly and Bryony and Jess are the same. They are fun, happy people and great friends, but also have their little woes to which make them feel more real. This is also just the type of book I needed after reading quite a stressful, sad story with a few too many detestable characters.

Lisa is also back with her hilarious one liners and lots of mischief, I really cannot wait for part two now, especially as I need to find out how they will get out of quite a sticky situation!
On to Part Two!

When Jess learns that her best friend is travelling to Cannes for the film festival, she asks if she can tag along. While Bryony is busy working as a journalist, Jess can relax in the sunshine and hopefully spot a few celebrities along the way.

I was looking forward to starting Catch Me If You Cannes as I've enjoyed Lisa Dickenson's previous serials, The Twelve Dates of Christmas and You Had Me At Merlot. Part 1 of Catch Me If You Cannes introduces us to best friends Jess and Bryony. Bryony has aspirations of becoming a renowned journalist but at the moment she is stuck at Sleb magazine, mainly digging up dirt on celebrities for her horrible, misogynist boss, Mitch. She is in Cannes to cover the festival but with Jess tagging along, the girls can have some fun too. And fun they have! The pair find themselves in a few scrapes and even manage to meet the handsome Leo (who I hope we see more of in Part 2).

Part 1 of Catch Me If You Cannes is a fun, sunshiney read. If part 1 is anything to go by, the whole series is going to be a fantastic read with lots of laughs and hilarious escapades. Lisa Dickenson has once again managed to create a fantastic main character who you want to jump into the book so you can hang out with her. Jess is such a vibrant and quirky character and I can't wait to find out what she gets up to next in Part 2 and the rest of the series!

Oh my goodness, this book is hilarious! Lisa Dickenson has such a way with words that really does have you laughing out loud! Her characters are believable, relatable and utterly lovable. Jess and Bryony are wonderful - I wish they were my best friends - and the love interest Leo is also awesome. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that makes this book stand out against others in the same genre, but it's absolutely unique and I cannot wait to read more by this author!
